[Q] Wireless Charging on the Fritz - HTC Droid DNA

Hi all,
I've had this particular DNA for just about a year now. Everything has been going great, rooted since day 1, currently running the latest ViperROM.
I've been nearly exclusively using wireless chargers with this phone and recently picked up a few more chargers so that I really never have to plug the phone in (my USB cover is dangerously close to falling off and I'm trying to avoid that).
Last Friday afternoon the wireless charging suddenly started acting up on me. It worked perfectly up until that point including a full charge the previous night and a partial charge that morning. Since then I cannot get the phone to charge wirelessly anymore.
I'll put the phone on the pad, and it will begin charging. After about a minute or so, it'll stop. I'll pick the phone up and put it back on the pad, and it'll start again, but then stop even quicker. Pretty soon it'll rapidly start and stop charging and then give up all together and I won't be able to get it to charge at all. It seems that I can get it to charge about 2% before it gives up and won't charge.
Nothing has changed with the phone, so would you agree that this is a hardware issue or do you think software could be affecting it?
I really don't want to have to shell out another $100 for a replacement (this is already a replacement, I dropped the original) and I'll probably get a factory refirb with only a 90-day warranty where who knows, I might get stuck with this issue again in a few months...

Have you tried other wireless chargers to see of that was the issue or do you know for a fact it's the phone?
Does the phone have some kind of case on it that could be thick enough to interfere with the way it charges?
Sorry if these questions sound dumb, I did however read the whole op. Just trying to cover all bases.

I just asked a similar question. I have the same symptoms. I've been wondering if it's a rom issue. The only solution I've found is someone said that it worked for them if a usb cable was plugged into the phone but nothing on the other end. So, they turned off usb debugging and the issue was resolved for them. Didn't work for me, but maybe it'll work for you.

I am on Viper Rom 2.5.0 and have used various 1.x and 2.0.x versions without any wireless charging issues.

Odd Charging issue ...

Ok, so at 1am I plugged my phone it ... I verified the other end was connected to the wall (it was glowing blue) ... so I go to sleep thinking "it'll be fully charged when I wake up, oh boy oh boy!"
I wake up, and check my phone - it's warm as if it's been charging. But there's only 10% battery life left ... I was like "WHAT THE HECK?!"
This never happened to me with the Treo 650, 700wx / p, Pro, or HTC P3050, P4000, P3540 ... so is it just this battery, or just this phone?
I COULD take the phone in, but I don't want to because I'll get a refurb unit - even though I just spent $700 on this one this month - so I don't want to do that. Ideas folks?
P.S. I'm using stock Telus 6.1 ROM
Same here man, and it freezes when its done charging, or the charging light [the ring light] keeps going on even when its 100%? any help would be greatful ;(
also keyboard keeps freezing lol..
Since I hadn't had a response from anyone here, I went to Telus wh ile I was in the mall ... they say it's probably a charger issue, and not a phone / battery issue ... They will exchange, free of charge, my battery OR charger, but if I want to swap a unit, it'll be a refurb ... I told them "I just spent $700 on this phone, I WILL NOT take a refurb."
Ah well I'll take the charger tomorrow.
The world is out to get my TP!
eh? I went to sprint and they said i should leave the phone and they can check whats wrong with it.. but i cant if its OEM, and since its OEM we all cant have the same problem? sorry i researched and everyone says different things. Some say to much flashing to you got a defective devise or you need to update your radio or something something i duno i quit!
I posted a similar issue (have a sprint touchpro) about the activesync just dropping or the phone just disconnecting from the computer while charging on the USB charging cable, they claim "we've never heard of this issue". I wonder if this isn't exactly like the Mogul that had bad pins in the USB port that would disconnect that device while connected.
So far, haven't been able to find a satisfactory answer.
I had the same issue
When I received my first TP in February, I experienced this 3 times. I took it back into Sprint and they sent me a new in-the-box replacement. I kept all the accessories and just sent back the mobile itself (as I was instructed). Consequently, I've been using the OLD charger (never unwrapped the new one) for almost 4 months without experiencing the same issue. So, I'd have to say it was the handset. Also, once I noticed the charger cable fell out of the phone very easily after experiencing the heating-but-not-charging issue, so perhaps it has something to do with the fit of the male/female mini-usb.

Shutoff EVO 3D, won't charge or Turn on without battery pull!!

This problem started tonight. I just returned my first EVO 3D on Monday morning, because of problems. I am on second EVO 3D. The first EVO 3D I got on the 24th had intermittent charging problems, where the light wouldn't go on all the time, and had problems charging. It turned out to be a bad port. I had no problems exchanging that EVO 3D. The second one seemed to be fine all day Monday and shut down and charged with not problems Monday night. Today I used it all day and just went to shut it down just like I always do, and plugged it in to the charger. No red light came on at all. I said, oh no, hear I go again. I went to turn on the EVO 3D and nothing happened. I would not start at all. I decided to pull the battery out and put it back in after a minute, and, of course, everything is fine now, at least for tonight. If this happens again, tomorrow night, Wednesday, I will bring it back to Sprint for one last exchange. This time I will try another Sprint Corporate store, instead of the one I got the first two. Hopefully the third time the charm. After three exchanges, I will give up on the EVO 3D, and probably wait until the Motorola Photon comes out. I really hope this doesn't happen, because I really don't like BLUR and I do like the EVO 3D.
Anyone else who had this problem in the last few days, are you still having this problem or have you already exchanged it?
I am hoping this is a one time thing,
Try turning fastboot off. It's under power in settings

On some phones, there is an issue where if the USB cable is plugged in, you won't be able to turn on the phone. Had this weird issue myself, but realized it's the USB cable.
check your mem card.
if you've had 2 devices do this I'd say the device is not likely the issue.
or its possible this was patched in the OTA updates
try it without your mem card
change your usb cable
change your outlet your using.
i had the same thing happen to me within an hour of getting my phone on launch day. took it right back and they swapped it out for a new one.
they said i was the only person this happened to, but i said check the internet, its happening to others.
they tried the taking out mem card, new mem card, diff cable, pulled the battery out and put it in a new 3d and it worked, so its not the battery, letting it sit for a while, nothing.
i think something just fries on the motherboard and kills the phone randomly, but if it doesn't happen within a few hours or so of you getting the phone you should be good.
I find it real funny that people are so butt hurt when things happen to a phone when it first releases lmao. Come on now its new tech you guys go through all the trouble of exchanging things when it doesn't work to your liking when you should know off top that it ain't gonna be perfect when you first get it.

when you say "aint work to your liking", you know were talking about not working at all right
I had a defective one that kept rebooting and i was using it on the charger. The finally it stopped rebooting but then screen would stay black but still backlit after Sprint message. Sometimes you just get a defective product out a bunch since things are made in bulk you usually find out in the first few days while charging. Happens on a lot things. Haven't any problems with my second. Btw photons tegra 2 isn't even close to as powerful as the Snapdragon 3 so you would be getting a lesser phone months later.
This happened to me earlier today. I powered it off to save battery for later since it was getting low. When I went to turn it on... it just wouldn't turn on. After pulling the battery, it turned on right away.
The first EVO 3D that I returned on Monday only had an intermittent charging problem. I never had a problem of it not turning on, it just would not charge at times. The one that I got as a replacement, brand new EVO 3D, worked great yesterday, with no problems. I shut it down like I normally would do at the end of the day. The battery level was at 20%. I plugged in the battery charger (HTC one that came with the phone) and nothing happened. I then switched to two different outlets. Still the same. I got a different USB cord to see if it was the cord. Still the same problem. I had a travel charger, and tried it to see if that would make a difference. Nope, it still didn't work. So, that is when I decided to pull the battery. After pulling the battery and putting it back in, everything worked fine. I did notice that the phone was warm last night after extensive use of the phone all day. My daughter and I put it through the ringer, testing all the different features, ie, games, pictures, movies, internet, email, music, etc. The battery life was actually great yesterday. I do have the Otterbox Commuter Case on the phone if that makes a difference.
This morning after recharging, the phone turned on with no problem. I will have to see if it does it again tonight, or was it a small glitch. I guess this is why I have a 30 day return/exchange policy. I did do everything that people had suggested. I put in a 16 GB 6 speed microSD card in it, and tried the 8 GB that came with the phone also.
Problem might be caused by Update!! Read My last post.
A little update. I was on the phone with Tech support about the problem of the phone not starting up and the battery pull was the only way to get it to work. So he wrote down all the of what I did. He had me shut the phone down to see what would happen, since I had it on since early this morning. Sure enough, it wouldn't start again. He told, don't do anything and leave the phone alone and go to the Sprint store to exchange it. Well, I am now off to the store to get my 3rd EVO 3D. Hopefully 3 is my lucky number. Anyone else having this many problems. I must be the most unluckiest person.
This happened to me today. I was on the phone, battery died. I plugged it into the car charger, never got a charging light. Waited till I got home and put it on my home charger, no light. Pulled battery, back to normal.
I had the same troubles. Wiped phone took updates and it was fine for a few hours then Frozen. Sprint sending me out a new one. Hopefully second times a charm.
This happened to me today, but differently. I had about 35% left on my battery, so I plugged it into my work computer to charge before I left for the day. I had left it alone for a few minutes, and went to go check Facebook. Interestingly, it wouldn't turn on, nor was the charging light on. I pulled it off the cable, still wouldn't turn on. Pulled the battery, put it back in, wouldn't turn on. I plugged it in, and the computer recognized it like it was turned on. It tried to install drivers for QHSUSB_DLOAD. But the screen wouldn't come on, nor would the charging light come on. Ended up having to take it to the Sprint store and they gave me a new one.
Definitely a shocking experience for a phone only 6 days old.
I have no problem from day 1

SAME thing happened to me, needed a replacement
and here was my experiment (Across multiple posts, none of which gathered many ****ing replies. Interesting how this one is)
At first I thought it had to do with my 32gb memory card, then I thought it had to do with fast boot, then I thought it had to with hacking, then I thought it had to do with certain cables, then I thought it had to do with the extension cord, then I thought it had to do with using a USB 3.0 extender cable. Needless to say it was none of those.
Check my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1137683
I could reproduce this every single time without fail as long as I had fast boot off and powered down the phone with the charger in it.
After a while of trying to understand the cause, I broke it even more to the point where it wouldn't turn on regardless if I had a memory card in there or not, as long as a cable was plugged into the charging port, it would cease to turn on! At any rate, I went to the Sprint Store yesterday, and none of the floor models had that issue so I swapped it out. After battling it out with a Sprint Tech who thought he knew what he was doing, he eventually caved--as if I couldn't get a replacement anyway since within 30-day return policy. So far, my new EVO 3D isn't doing this, but you best believe if it does, I'm returning it and getting a Nexus S 4G instead.
I'm not sure if I should try a hard reset to see if it'll fix it... or just ask for a replacement.
I had something weird happen. Not exactly the same issue, but odd. My phone has been giving me awesome battery life, I typically have been getting 16 hours of medium or so use. I charged my phone to full and took it off the charger at 1am to put by my bedside so I can use the alarm clock. I wake up late, my alarm didnt go off, so I click the power button on the phone and nothing happens. Phone wont turn on, I tried a battery pull.
I took the phone to a Sprint store and the tech tells me it powered up when he plugged it in, and that my battery had died during the 7 hours it was sitting on my night stand, and I've been getting over 16 hours a day on the battery. I found this odd, he put it on the charger for 15 minutes and my phone was at 50% battery so I dont really believe that it was a completely dead battery. There are some weird issues with the phone, and I rely on it for my alarm. Should this happen again, I'll probably return the phone and just wait for newer hardware revisions, as I love the phone.
Well, I got my third replacement EVO 3D today. I took it to the Sprint Corporate store that I got the first two. I went right to the Manager and had her help me with the phone's problem. She said there was no problem in exchanging the EVO 3D after seeing it not start up. She pulled the battery, just like I told her she should do, and said it most likely would work fine after the pull. Sure enough it worked again. I talked to her about what would be causing the problem with now two returned phones. She said that other Managers were talking to her about the problem, and they believe that it was caused by the update Sprint and HTC pushed to the phone . She told me I should not do the update for the phone until a new update comes out. I am going on Vacation in two days and I need to make sure I have a working phone, so if my phone will work without the update, that is what I will do. Sprint hasn't admitted yet there is a problem, but it sounds like internally they know something is wrong. If anyone else is having this problem, I would go to Sprint store or wherever you got the phone, and get a new phone and not update until a new update is available. I intend to call Sprint and let them know after a week or two, if my phone is working properly, that the update was most likely the problem.
What's the AC charger you use? I cannot meet this issue with HTC EVO 3D official AC charger. Maybe you use another brand's Micro USB charger but not HTC EVO 3D official AC charger.

TF201 Charging via Dock but not Wall charger

So here's the dilemma...
Two days ago, my TF Prime stopped charging via the wall charger directly to the tablet. It recognizes that it's been plugged in however, is not showing the lightning bolt charging.
This is where it get's confusing to me. The exact same wall charger works fine on the dock and charges it successfully and to the same, the dock charges the tablet.
Anyone experiencing this or have any suggestions?

I am having a similar situation myself that I am trying to track down an answer to. My tablet will charge to 100% but does not recognise that it is plugged it. I do not get the "Charging" conformation anymore or even the charging indicator on the battery in the lower right by the clock. My prime is rooted though and I am wondering if it may be a kernel glitch or something to that nature. Odd thing is it was working fine all day then when I plugged it in like any other day this started to happen. I don't even get the conformation DING.

Mine started doing the exact same finally after it started popping up the most annoying battery icon in the middle of the screen making the tablet miserable to use. This was only exaserbated by charging through the dock/keyboard which served to double the size of this same itermittent icon. I'd called Asus support to ask why it was doing this, and as they had no idea they thought it was possibly a hardware failure and recommended sending it in for examination and repair. I am now inclined to agree.
Of course this was only after I'd tried everything else including returning to factory settings, wiping out all apps and data. Soon as I rebooted from clean the icon popped back up proving it was not another application interfering. Only a few weeks later the tablet stopped charging completely except through the dock/keyboard. Before that I'd read on these forums that the OEM charger was faulty and should be replaced, so I bought another with no change. In short, it's not the charger, it's not software, it's a defect in the tablet itself. I purchased a Transformer replacement and am returning the defective tablet being as I've invested in both tablet and dock, but this time purchased a Square Trade 2 year warranty to go with it so repairs will be easier and speedy. I also called Asus back an let them know it is in fact a defect, not an isolated incident, and they should own the issue when customers call. I hope others with this problem will do the same so Asus does not think it's only my tablet and others won't suffer an unsure response. If you can send it in for repairs do so, if you can get a replacement, even better, but I personally took the added precaution of extending the warranty with additional coverage since this happened, something I normally am disinclined to do! Best of luck getting yours fixed, am sorry you got one of the lemons too.

wireless charging not working

i got the nokia wireless charger for xmas, it worked fine for a couple days now whenever i put the phone on the charger it wont charge unless i press down hard on the phone, but as soon as i let go it will stop charging. at first i thought it was the charger so i took my phone to verizon and tried it on the charger they have on display and same thing happend. any one ever heard of this? or got any tips? only thing i can think is charging it on the charger has warped the back since it gets hot, but thats just my opinion.
Could be a case or cover on your phone?
If you got ur phone hot enough to warp the back, you'd know it, lol.
I had a phone that was intermittently working on the wireless charger, and VZW replaced it promptly, no more trouble.

hmm, same problem ish for me....I have an otterbox case, and it detects charging just fine. Though I can go to sleep and wake up with it at less than I put it on..yet again, it shows it's charging.....Could it just be getting too hot and stopping the charge?
My phone stopped charging from my Nokia pad also. Took it into Verizon and tried to charge in a known good charging pad and it still wouldn't charge. They issued me a replacement phone and no trouble since

That would be a royal pain....I'm bootloader unlocked.
Wireless charging is considerably slower than charging via a wall outlet and maybe slightly slower than charging from PC via USB.
The closer the phone is to the pad, the stronger the charging should be. Putting large cases on the phone may possibly cause it to charge slower.
If its charging slower than the phone drains the battery you should make sure the phone makes as close contact to the pad as possible (thin or no case at all) and make sure you don't have overclocked settings or tons of apps that constantly run in the background. You might also consider leaving the screen brightness on automatic so when you charge it at night and the screen comes on it doesn't use full brightness.
Try these things and report back if the situation doesn't improve.
been using wireless charging since i got my DNA on my energizer. as soon as i got my new case (trident) it stopped working THAT night, no prior problems. I thought maybe the case was too thick. tried with my old Verizon TPU which worked fine and without a case, and now it wont stay charging for more than 5-10 minutes MAX, and usually not for more than half a minute... if i push down as well, generally it starts to charge. I really don't want to get a new replacement. I don't see how this feature could break as it did! i would only imagine it would just happen again..
i am glad i am not the only person who has ran into problems with the nokia pads, i tried the pillow and just the plate and it would never charge longer than 30 - 45 seconds, weird thing is that my lg pad charges fine.
i am using the energizer pad. I can only hope its the pad and not the phone! the nokia pad looks nice. hell i guess ill stop in a Verizon store and see if it works there! cant believe it would only last a month. even more odd is that it stopped working when i got my case. i wonder if having the case caused it? i went to sleep with it charging and it seemed fine, woke up to 22% charge. second night with case off the phone was dead when i woke up. previously my phone would be 100% ready to go and cooled off by the AM!
And again I wake up to my phone not being charged even though the charging light was on....seriously?
Random too...some nights it works. Some it doesn't...
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
I had charging stop last night on me, Took the phone off, put it back on and charged to 100 after that.
Had this happen to 2 DNA's! I think it has to do with the phone getting too hot which results in a hardware failure on the device itself. I honestly gave up on wireless charging.

Battery is Acting Really Strange

My phone is having issues charging even with three different cables. If I plug the phone in while it is off, it turns on and says it's charging. But it doesn't receive a charge. If the phone is on and I plug it in, it says it's charging on the lock screen, but the icon doesn't change to the charging symbol and it doesn't receive a charge. I have tried wiggle the cable a bit while it's plugged in, but that doesn't help. It doesn't seem like others are having this same issue either. Am I screwed? I also unlocked my phone. Does that mean I am double screw and Huawei won't help me?

Hey all, here is a quick update. I spoke with a gentle from Huawei and was suppose to get a replacement sent out. However, I believe I was under volt charging the device and that's why I got those strange issues. It recharges every time from my car and my computer, but not from my wall. Kimtyson, Huawei said the exact same thing as you. Good call!
With the phone running, go to Phone Manager and then go to Power Saving and then Consumption Level. Is Cell Standby draining your battery? It is on mine.

For me, it's only 2.94%. I have to say though, going from 4.3 to 5.1 was a huge difference in life battery. For the worse. I went from one charge every 3 to 4 days to once a day.
However, I believe the USB port might be broken. I don't know why though. I haven't been rough it or charged it at a angle that would put extra pressure on it.
It might be worth doing a factory reset and\or reinstalling. Could be a bad flash or something. Also, try returning to JB. Just make a TWRP backup or something so you can get back to where you are now. See if everything is working back in JB. If so, it's not the USB port.
