[Q] Can I flash back to 4.1.2 after using the 4.3 leak since I was rooted? on a i605 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Good Morning everyone. I need to flash back to 4.1.2 to get my phone looked at. Is it possible to re-root after I get my phone back? I see people are having problems using casual and getting a partition 60 missing? or something on that order any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you say "flash back to 4.1.2", do you mean just flash a stock 4.1.2 ROM, or use ODIN to restore your phone to factory locked condition?
As long as the phone does not accept the 4.3 OTA then casual will still work. If the 4.3 OTA gets installed on your phone, then you will not be able to unlock the bootloader again. You can still achieve root access, but not unlock, which will prevent you from being able to install custom roms.

I just want to make sure I've got this right. I've done the VRUEMJ9 4.3 OTA update. If I flash back to the stock VRAMC3 4.1.2 build using ODIN, I still won't be able to unlock my bootloader?
If so, I wish I'd known this before I took the OTA update. On my old phone, I could just sbf to an older build and that took care of any problems. I thought that it would be the same with this phone, but I guess not. Frustrating.

That is the case, unfortunately. From the research I've done it would seem the bootloader on this device cannot be downgraded. The files we have available to flash via ODIN do not change the bootloader, they are not full images. And yes it is frustrating, several of my family members were not the happy with the 4.3 OTA and were ready to take the custom ROM plunge, too late.

Is there a way to track down the full bootloader img for older versions?

[Q] Help, need to unroot a ROM

Help.
So, my boss asks me to root his thunderbolt, so I do. Then, he goes and tries to install an OTA update on the thunderbolt and wonders why it won't work. I get into work this morning and he says, "I need you to unroot my phone so I can install OTA updates"???
I'm very confused, but hey, he wants it unrooted. Problem is, I can pull the battery, startup like normal, boot into the rooted OS and immediately the thing shuts down and tries to install the OTA update he installed.
This results in the android guy and the triangle with an exclamation point in it showing and I can't go any further.
ADB DOES see the device when I do adb devices.
How do I push the stock ROM back on to the phone and have it update that back to stock?
Help.
WHY he wants the phone unrooted or even decided to update it with an OTA ROM is beyond me.
Please and thank you in advance.
Wrong section but if the bootloader still has s-off, I would install custom recovery again and flash the rooted ota rom.
Have you tried this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009423
You should be able to flash the latest ota by booting into bootloader. If adb is working then I believe you can...
adb reboot bootloader
here is a link to the file you will need with instructions...
how to flash the latest ota
1. I realized too late it was the wrong section, apologies.
2. I don't need to flash a ROOTED ROM, he wants this device back to being stock UNROOTED.
Can I, using recovery, flash PG05IMG_MR1_no_hboot.zip over what is there now and go back to unroot and stock?
I use an Evo and can do almost anything on that, but the thunderbolt is a little new to me. Not my device, shouldn't have offered to root it for my boss without knowing he was going to try to install an OTA update.
Any help with unrooting and reflashing the Stock OTA would be very helpful.
It's one of the big issues with running stock rooted. Nothing stopping it from trying to update itself and screw the pooch
Honestly, if he wants OTAs just for the latest goodies/stability and battery improvements he'd be better off with something cooked... Just my opinion though

Hmmm - not sure why you didn't just use the link that I provided? I will quote from there...
Code:
Using this RUU will wipe all data on your device!
Please make a backup of all sensitive data before
proceeding. Similarly, you will [B]LOOSE ROOT IF
YOU FLASH THIS[/B]. It is unclear right now
whether or not this version is easily rootable.
[B]PROCEED WITH CAUTION[/B]
This is not a link to a rooted rom.

No problem. It wasn't clear originally bc I am not sure how XDA views links to "this sort of file". As in a "Romeo Uniform Uniform"

I would guess it's fine considering there are an abundance of RUU links in the dev section.

[Q] Newest VZW Update VRAMC3

OK so here is the story and I was debating if this is the right place to post but I do feel it is more on the developing side. I originally rooted and unlocked my bootloader following Casuals method and everything was just fine. I had an option to sell the phone in preparation for buying the GS4 so I used the return to stock method posted in the forums to return my device completely to stock. After doing so everything was also fine. I received an update to LL4 and that went OK straight from Verizon but last night when the VRAMC3 update was pushed to my phone it soft bricked it. It ultimately was stock on the splash screen stating Samsung Note 2. After trying to ODIN back to stock with multiple FAILS I was able to get it back to the Root66 MR Robinson by using the pit file but every time I try to update and or root/unlock bootloader it soft bricks again. I am assuming that the update that was pushed updated my bootloader and as of now I am stuck till there is a new bootloader Jailbreak. If not I would love some instruction on how to get my phone rooted with an unlocked bootloader or a flashable ODIN file that will at least get me to the latest VRAMC3 fully stock ROM. Thank you for the HELP.
Next time read the stickies...when they say NOT to accept OTA updates, usually there is some meaning behind it.

I had the same problem. Flash the pit file with odin and wait for the phone to turn on. the problem is fixed to get the phone working. Then you can flash other stuff.
Thank you for the replies even though one was not helpful at all. I have flashed the root66 file with the pit and it does work but if I try to run the casual jailbreak or flash any other odin files it fails. My assumption is my bootloader got updated and has locked me out and I will just have to wait for a new boot loader exploit. Thanks

Is there a sticky or something definitive on the subject of rooted (via Casual) Verizon Note 2 users getting the OTA update and retaining root? I'm currently VRALL4, rooted via Casual, with SDM frozen to avoid the OTA update. But I'd rather not stay in this state indefinitely.

Once you are rooted via Casual there is no such thing as accepting Verizon's OTA if you want your phone to keep working. (This info can be found in 1 or 2 basic searches, which everyone should do first.)
If you want to get the 4.1.2 features there are 3 options that I know of: 1) flash a zip of the 4.1.2 update, 2) flash a full 4.1.2 stock rom, or 3) flash a custom rom that has 4.1.2 features in it. You can find all 3 options in the Original Development section of xda. Imnuts has implemented #1 but read the forum on the ins and outs. Beanstown106 has created #2. And Beanstown106's latest Jellybeans 16 is a custom rom that incorporates 4.1.2.

[Q] Trying to flash Alliance Rom

The first step for flashing Alliance was making sure i have the 4.3 firmware. Flashed via Odin.
I experfienced some trouble with a bootloop issue so i changed cables and then partitioned with the .pit file.
All's well now, it at least runs the stock firmware just fine. Now i'm strugglling with the most basic simple part IMO... how do i install the custom Rom without the recovery??

You are rooted still correct? Easiest way I guess is to just download Rom Manager or GooManager depending on using TWRP or CWM.

I chose to bump up my android version cuz i friend another SIM card. I tether for my Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and whatever else, thankfully my laptop can get weak unsecured internet signals, but i'm walking my Note around the apartment trying to get good 1x reception Problems may be overlapping but next step is something basic from the Play Store to verify root.
I read of some luck with root for 4.3, just not bootloader. Am i correct?

Not rooted. it sounds like rooting is still an option, just not custom recovery?
Is using ODIN to flash stock rooted an option? No valuable files on phone currently.
(Fortunately I'm at work right now so I have time to make well informed decisions. Thanks for your help)

I believe if you took/flashed the OTA update, your kinda out of luck and stuck now. I'm not 100% certain of this though but I think it probably relocked the bootloader and the only thing to do is wait for someone to root/unlock 4.3.

Correct. If you took the OTA it relocked your bootloader and you are stuck. You can still root the official 4.3 but you are stuck waiting until someone unlocks the bootloader. This means no custom ROMs/Recovery.
Which 4.3 firmware did you flash? If its the OTA then yes you're outta luck.
If you did follow the Alliance's rom thread. There is a 4.3 MJ9 firmware you need to flash. It doesn't have the locked bootloader. You are then able to boot up in the basic recovery and then flash either TWRP or CWM recovery.

Rooting bone stock 4.1.2

So, I dropped and cracked another screen, 4 but whose counting. I called Assurion and they said they'll send me a new i605 without updating it to OTA 4.3
Now my main question is how do I go about unlocking the bootloader, and rooting it from stock. It's been so long since I was on a bone stock rom. I know the last time I did it there was some "suck it verizon" file and a .pit file. Do I follow these direstions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2043636
Also, When I get it unlocked and Philz recovery on the phone can I restore a backup of Sophisticated rom, or do I have to reinstall from scratch?

If its 4.1.2 go here to root, unlock bootloader and install custom recovery in 1 click.
Since u already have a backup, I think after you have custom recovery, you just can restore your backup.(cmiiw)

Thanks, that will be a lot easier than the original method I had to do over a year ago. I just really hope they send me a non upgraded phone. The guy said he would put a note in my claim not to do the 4.3 OTA upgrade, fingers crossed.

Turns out to be a moot point. New phonrle came with 4.3. Even though the Assurion guy I talked to yesterday said it wouldn't. Now they say they "have" to update to the newest firmware, or it won't work with the network. What a bunch of BS.
So, I'm sort of confused right now. I'm getting "internet unstable messages" on 4.3, and I only got those was from Beans 4.3 leak.
Could it be that my phone was flashed with a leaked 4.3 then sent in to the insurance company, and never updated because it'd already be running 4.3?

[Q] Verizon Note 2 4.3 Firmware Flash Question

I have Verizon Note 2 that is on 4.3 VRUAND3. The phone was rooted by the Kingo Method, which I think messed with the recovery. The phone has been un-rooted, but will not get the 4.4.2 OTA. It fails on install. The bootloader has never ever been unlocked on this phone. I have read multiple threads on firmware upgrading and reverting to stock.
What I want to know is this: Can I flash the 4.4.2 stock firmware to this phone to update it. I am aware I will lose all data and will have to reset the phone. That is not an issue. I want to make sure that I can safely flash the firmware to update it and not end up with an expensive paperweight.
Thanks for looking and any help provided.
