[Q] Llama Root Access - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Ever since I rooted my GS3 I9300 I have been getting the following error message on a regular basis" "Error-Llama could not get root access in time. Check your SU settings"
Any clues on what I need to do to allow Llama to do its thing in real time?.

What root ??

Sorry--I'm a bit of a root newbie. Don't understand the question--I rooted a few months ago--no problems other than the Llama stumble.

Not specifically (as in your screenshot). How do I add it?
BTW there are numerous instances of Llama in the SU log??

I think that @JJEgan meant- what tool did you use in order to root your device (CF-autoRoot, etc)
Anyway- is there a running app which uses root permissions other than Llama? If true- try to clean superSU log, reboot and see if Llama gets recognized by SuperSU.
if false- try to check other root apps, and if the issue stays the same- try to reflash root using newest CF-autoRoot (otherwise- reinstall Llama)

OK, thanks. I've cleaned the log and rebooted. I think SU recognizes Llama--from the way the error message is worded it appears it doesn't recognize it quickly enough to trigger the action.

Ahh, AmirTor set me straight. I'm sure it was CF-autoRoot

Look in settings I think you can extend the time it takes for SU to recognize apps gaining root access...I'm using a rom with SU inbuilt and you can change the length of time it takes to detect not sure if the app version as that feature?

Thanks, Tallman
There's nothing that specifically refers to extending recognition times, but there are a couple that might apply: Re-authentication, enable during boot, Trust system user, etc--I'll give 'em a try.

Was this issue ever resolved? I'm getting the same problem.

I ran Llama fine on 4.2.2 stock for a year or so. When I switched to 4.4.2 WanamLite (stock less Knox) I started getting the message. I got SuperSU pro to enable logging.
My morning action turns airplane mode off, turns sync on, turns wifi on, then runs a bunch of things like facebook, email, etc to sync. I get the exclamation mark and the message at the top of the thread when this runs, or when the similar evening action runs. I'm getting the following log entries when it goes out of airplane mode (in approx these colors). Nothing in supersu says anything about delays.
1.
settings put global airplane_mode_on 0
exit
Warning: App_process has text relocations. This is wasting memory and is a security risk. Please fix.
2.
am broadcast
a android.intent.action.AIRPLANE_MODE -e llama.sender llama -e state false
exit
Warning: App_process has text relocations. This is wasting memory and is a security risk. Please fix.
Boradcasting: Intent (etc).
Broadcast completed: result=0

Ok, I have a solution or workaround, but not a full explanation.
It seems permissions and such have changed between 4.2.2 and 4.4.2 and Llama isn't compatible, or maybe it's just not possible. The trick is to use the secure settings app, and enable the System+ Module inside it. I think I also made Secure Settings a device admin, just in case, but unsure if that's required. Then go to the compatible apps tab and click llama help for instructions.
Basically, in Llama, instead of using the built in airplane mode commands you add an action "locale plugin", then choose "secure settings", "root actions", then "airplane mode". That lets you turn it on, off, or toggle.
If you purchase secure settings pro (about $1.50, in-app purchase via google play) you get access to a shutdown and reboot command. I can't find any other way to do this - even via a shell where you can usually do it the shutdown/reboot commands don't seem to be there.
Sorted!

Same problem here with a Moto X with root and it shows up as having root access in SuperSu.

[ROOT][WIN] GUI Tool for rooting the Motorola RAZR

This is my first attempt at creating something for users on xda, so be gentle .
Eternityproject has released a fine script for rooting our Motorola RAZR phones on the 4.0.4 update. As a windows-user that used to use batch scripts for everything I could not help but want some more output than just the [rebooting] echo's that the script print on the screen. As a bonus I thought it would be nice to see how long the script will take before my phone is rooted. I have made these wishes into an application, and pedrotorresfilho kindly allowed me to use their script in my application.
So what does it do?
It roots your Motorola RAZR and shows you what the script originally did. It also calculates how long your phone takes to reboot, and shows you how much time you have to get a nice cup of [insert drink here]. Or soda if you prefer that. In theory it is possible to root multiple phones at the same time, which saves time if you have to root 10 RAZRs at once (LOL... as if).
How does one use it?
- Install the program using Microsoft's Awesome ClickOnce distibution system
- Install the Motorola Drivers (Download MotoHelper from here)
- Enable 'Unknown Sources' (on your phone: go to settings, go to security, tick the box next to 'Unknown Sources') (needed to install supersu.apk)
- Enable 'USB Debugging' (on your phone: go to settings, go to developer options, tick the box next to USB Debugging) (needed to communicate with your phone over USB)
- When connecting your phone, please set the USB Mode to 'Media Sync - MTP', to be sure that mounting points won't interfere with the rooting process.
When the application is opened all the connected Android devices will be selected. This means that as soon as you press the 'Root' button, they will be rooted.
In principle the application does nothing more or less than the script. You don't have to have extensive knowledge of adb or android internals, it's just an app that shows the connected devices and a root button . If you are already rooted, it's easy to unroot using SuperSU.

Added more strings to the logging output
Fixed the blocking of the root button if there are no devices selected
Added a splash screen to indicate that the application is actually loading
Changed the location where the splash as well as the credits/welcome screen appear
1.0.0.5:
added credits for Chainfires SuperSU and su
Removed the message that rooting was not successful
Added a few more messages about the script itself (in the script output)
Updated SuperSU and binary to 0.94 (su binary still says it needs to be updated )
1.0.0.4:
The application now properly disposes of the AndroidLib instance, disabled the CheckedItem event on the DeviceList because it was a tad buggy. This won't harm anyone.
1.0.0.3:
Enabled Microsoft ClickOnce Update deployment. If I fix a bug, you are able to update to a less buggy version

I have sent you a dm .
Can you try with this root method. It's simpler.

For guys already rooted that wanna test it, first unroot your phone:
Run SuperSU app and press 'full unroot'. If you have superuser app also installed remove it first.

Well, I tested the 2 versions ( I got a notification to update your tool ).
It is working great but the installer is strange, ( I had all requirements but for people which don't, it's not great ).

Yeah, the installer should be extra user friendly. I should probably just advice users to use the .application link. But the link will only work if .NET client profile is already installed. I'll adjust the message about root, It seems that the library that I use does not query root status from the phone, but rather from it's cache. Maybe I have to update the phone data before querying for root. Thanks for your feedback!
Edit: I am now uploading version 1.0.0.5, I added credits for Chainfires SuperSU, removed the message about the rooting. Too bad my connection is bad (3G in the mountains in La Palma) so bear with me while the updated version is uploaded. Should be up within about 10 minutes, users that already have the application installed will asked to update to the latest version.

1. Installed and executed (had to confirm the download since google chrome didn't allow setup.exe files to be directly donwloaded)
2. Upon start it updated.
3. First run the app didn't recognized my connected Razr after changing USB to Media Device - MTP and enable USB debug.
3. Closed and reopened the app and it recognized and root went fine.
Notes: Application said to 'Refresh' when ADB has being enable, but theresn't a Refresh button.
Really nice!

[Q] ROOT exploit GT-A9500 Android 4.2.0 MT6589-C920-EN-V08

Greetings,
I have bought one cheep smartphone from china for my sister (the last two quite expensive smartphones stopped working after "diving and free falling course" . So I decied to buy for her some cheeper device. It is an Android and it looks like an samsung, but it is this phone http://www.antelife.com/htm-a9500-s...tft-screen-256mb-256mb-dual-camera-white.html .
After Avast installation a found in the system app which has root rights (It is not possible to uninstall it), which was marked as an Trojan ( Android: Agent-AXY [Trj] ). It is probably UI app, which imitate Samsung UI ( CooeeUI launcher (version iLoongS4vHD2.1.0.10.11138.130628 ).
I tried to root it using framaroot (On my phone framaroot was working well), but app displayed a notice with message "It is probably not possible to root this device with framaroot" or something like that and the app closed itself.
I found one other sw on this page (here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2403230&page=3 ), but I'm worry to try it after reading the last post because of malware infection risk (I really don't want to send somewhere to China IMEI and whatever else...).
Here I write some details about SW and HW of the phone:
Model: GT-A9500
Core version: GT-A9500 Quad-Core ( :fingers-crossed: )
Software version: MT6589-C920-EN-V08
Hardware version: C920-V1.02
Could I ask somebody for help? Is there any exploit for this phone or any other possibility to root it? I would need kick this china apps off this phone.

Is there any way to remove infected UI launcher without root rights?
I may be able to help you get it rooted. Search play store for SRT Appscanner and install it. Then run app and see if either bug listed says vulnerable.

Open a command prompt in the folder you have ADB.exe in and check to see if ADB is seeing your device. ( do this by opening the folder adb.exe is located in then press and hold shift key and right click on the white space at bottom of folder, then select "open command prompt here". Type:
adb devices
in to the black command prompt and hit enter, see if it shows a device listed under Devices attached.) It shouldnt take more than a minute to complete so I would say make sure USB debugging is on and make sure the PC can see the phone via adb since that is what Impactor uses to root the phone (like lost other root exploits too actually)
Also - you need to leave Snap pea window open for adb to work, I dont know why but even though it installs adb driver for you, you need to leave the snap pea window open or it wont see phone in adb.
Hope this helps!
USB debugging is checked and I leave Snap pea window open. If I try to close it, connection with the phone get lost and Cydia Impactor display an error message. If I leave the Snad pea open, C Impactor works, but after more than 10 minutes I see still only Testing #.... Is there some chance to root this chineese **** od should I use it as an hammer?

[SOLUTION] AdAway Not Working - Stuck on "Applying hosts file"

Here is an easy solution/fix for those who wish to use AdAway v2.8 but end up getting stuck on the final step to enabling ad blocking, "Applying hosts file".
If you are trying to enable AdAway but are stuck on "Applying hosts file" as seen in the screenshot below, then please follow these very simple instructions.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

1. Download a root explorer. I prefer using Root Explorer because I think its the best file explorer on the android market. If you have problems with purchasing apps you can always use the free version Explorer, or if you prefer using another file explorer that's fine, just make sure it has root access enabled.
2. Once you have a file explorer installed that has root access enabled, navigate to "system/etc" and find the file labeled "hosts" as seen in the screenshot below.
3. Hold down/select the file labeled "hosts" and select "permissions" from the selection as seen in the screenshot below.
4. After selecting permissions a window should have popped up where you can change the permissions of the file as seen in the screenshot below.
4. Change the permissions of the hosts file to "rw-rw-rw" just like in the screenshot below. Hit "OK" to apply the permission changes and close the file explorer completely and head back over to AdAway.
5. Once you have AdAway back open, click "Download files and apply ad blocking" and try again. Depending on your internet connection it shouldn't take very long, but you should see something like this, hit "Yes".
6. After your phone has rebooted, open AdAway again and you should see something like this saying newest hosts files enabled.
Congratulations, AdAway is now working and ad blocking is enabled!
Thanks man, it worked great
Cheers for the post, was getting this issue on ASOB 1.3.2 rom & it was starting to get annoying, sometimes it would apply the HOSTS file after a reboot, other times it wouldn't
Thanks, this works for me too !
Thanks...Seems Adaway randomly breaks this permission.
Worked perfect thanks
The reason AdAway does that on newer android versions (some 4.3 roms and most all 4.4) is because of SELinux. If you change it to permissive, the Hosts file applies perfectly. Do so at your own risk, but I can't stand having it on my phone. Blocks too many fun things.

Ah ok. Well, at least you can opt out of them buy purchasing the premium version of it. I'd probably just do the AdAway option too, but the premium version does have the dark theme which would probably make it worth it to me. I much prefer white text on black backgrounds.
What also works for me is the same steps but just change to read-write and then apply adaway

Still having problems - you can try this
Had the same issue on my HTC Desire running 4.4.2 OmniRom by Spezi77
I followed all the steps outlined in the OP, but still Adaway was stuck while applying the host file
Finally, managed to get it to work by disabling the toast notification for Adaway in SuperSU.
The original solution has been posted here (towards the end)
On step 3: Using Explorer, I don't have a Permissions option when I select my hosts file. I also couldn't find an alternative File Manager with that option and I can't figure out why it isn't available for myself.
I know I'm probably missing something obvious here. Any ideas?
I installed root explorer -free version just to reprodcue your problem. Yes, I get the same on step 3 - it only shows the properties of the host file. I think this is partly because the program does not ask for root permissions. With SuperSu i couldn't manually grant root permissions to it.
I would suggest you to use "ES file explorer" instead. When you open this program, access the left menu. Open tools and scroll down to find root explorer option. Now in the app click on the button next to it to switch it on. The program will now ask for root permissions from your super user program. Grant there rights. Then you have to click on the word root explorer and you will get a popup menu. In this menu you have to next to the /system select RW option. This will allow you to make changes to system.
Now close this left menu, and navigate to the hosts file and set the permissions. When you long press on the file you will get similar options as listed in the original post.
You can switch off the root explorer option when you are done.

Still hangs on parsing and merging .....
Thank you! :good:
That has resolved the problem, that Adaway was not able to update the Host File.
Hey everyone, I tried the instructions here using both Root Explorer and ES Explorer but similar message on both explorers.
On Root Explorer "Permissions change was not successful. Please note that some file systems (e.g. SD card) do not allow permission changes
On ES Explorer "Sorry, operation failed."
Can anyone shed some light on these errors for me please. Thank you.
N.B. I am using the Huawei Y330

SSH for the Rooted Fire TV
Secure Shell (SSH) is a cryptographic network protocol for secure data communication, remote command-line login, remote command execution, and other secure network services between two networked computers.
So what? Why do I want this on my Fire TV?
Right now, the only means of communicating with your Fire TV is through ADB, which is fine, but has limitations, mainly due to the fact that adb does not run as root.
SSH does, so those limits are removed. Using scp or even better sftp you can easily copy files to and from any area on your Fire TV, issue commands via ssh and more.
Details are HEREhttp://www.jocala.com/busydrop.html
reserved
Note: If you are an adbFire user you already have this. Just select "Install SSH" from the root menu.
Note: This is probably not compatible with other busybox installs. They do vary depending on compile-time options. Please uninstall Google Play busybox installs or other variants before installing BusyPlay!
Nice. I look forward to trying this out soon.

This is a cross-post from another forum. I thought it might be useful here.
root/password -- the userid should default to root
The command-line "ssh "helper" apps are:
Manually start the server with a password (no spaces)
Code:
sshstart
Usage: sshstart password -- arguments: the password you want to use
Kill sshd immediately
Code:
sshstop
Usage: sshstop -- no arguments, immediately kills ssh server
Show sshd status
Code:
sshstatus
Usage: sshstatus -- no arguments, gives ssh server status
Create sshd startup script with given password
Code:
sshinit
Usage: sshinit password -- arguments: the password you want to use (no spaces)
this program creates the file /etc/init.d/02sshd that starts sshd at boot
Delete sshd startup at boot script
Code:
sshboot
Usage: sshboot -- arguments: rm
Typing sshboot rm deletes the file /etc/init.d/02sshd that starts sshd at boot

Yes.
So I gave this a try following your instructions as it looked like it would work great for backing up cwm recovery files to my PC. I followed all the instructions installing the zip through cwm recovery and rebooting but when I click on ssh on adbfire 1.11 it says fatal error connection refused. Any idea what I might have done wrong or how to get it working. I have installed putty on my computer and I tried to connect directly through putty as well but that wouldn't work either. How can I test if the ssh server is working or not?
**edit: I got it to connect to putty and winSCP after uninstalling the busybox I had installed and installing the busybox through adbfire 1.11 I can see this being a very powerful and useful tool for the Fire TV. Very nice work jocala. I still can't see the cwm recovery files I would like to back-up though. Shouldn't they be in the /storage/emulated/legacy/clockworkmod folder unless I am missing something?

I've added notes concerning Google Play busybox installs and adbFire.
/storage/emulated/legacy (/sdcard) is where my clockworkmod directory is. I haven't done a backup, so mine is empty.

It should, although I haven't tried. A new startup script would be needed, sshstart is hardcoded to startup using a password.
BusyDrop 1.01 released
Changelog: update to BusyBox v1.22.1 (2014-10-26 17:14:21 EDT)
This setup is awesome for transferring files to and from the Fire TV. Much better and easier than adb once you get it set up properly. I have been using this with WinSCP and it has worked perfectly.
thank you very much for this. im loving it.

Obviously I think so or I wouldn't have taken the time to develop it. Are you a user of this other app?

Or it's a completely valid question and I was wanting some input, but if you have issue with answering then ok.
Edit: What difference does it make whether I am or not a user of another app? I was asking if there is a benefit to using your app since I already have an established solution. Nevermind though.

It's quite alright. I'm not too happy with my current setup so I will be trying out BusyDrop.

If you have any questions I'll be more than happy to assist. Now I'm going to bed before I kick my dog or do something else that will embarrass me tomorrow.
+1 for being able to ssh in using a key and disabling password logins. It makes it easy to log in from putty and other ssh clients, more secure and I don't have to record one more password.

Make sure that you have installed the right login fix for your device
Use the Xposed fix if you have xposed in your device or the 3 apks if you don't have it

The download option for decrypted Videos such as Music Videos is broken now, since YouTube changed something on it

Does MicroG have to be installed for users with rooted phones that do not have the Exposed framework installed? The download section on http://ogmods.net/home/OGYoutube does not specifically state if MicroG is needed for rooted, non-rooted or both.
Thanks!

Hello, thank you for this mod, i have encountered some bugs with the app, I'm using a Galaxy S7, not rooted.
-although i have selected to open with my subscriptions it always opens with recommended
-i can't select or modify the video/audio downloads folder location
- when i switch to another app, the audio stops playing, even if the background playback is checked.
-sometimes, when i open the app i get an error (screenshot), i have to swipe the app from the recents and open it again.
-when i resume the video from background it's black, is this normal?
As a feature request, could it be possible to add an 'x' to close the app from the notification drawer when it is playing in background ? Thanks.

I do have occasional black screen but it's just a matter of pausing playback for a few seconds and resuming - like it was a audio/video resync issue... not sure it's really OGYT problem rather than YT...
If it's returning to normal mode that you meant, use the recent apps list instead of pressing the notification panel.
- - -
2 suggestions for @OGMods:
1) could an option to turn off audio notifications be added?
My intent connection is often not too stable and I see downloads frequently stop (and I have to manually go press tge resume option from downloads) and each time, it's 2 or 3 notification chirps and it gets very annoying.
2) related to the above, could an option for auto-resume on paused download be included? At least one that would do so when the app is still in use would be very nice.
Otherwise, thanks for your mod.
Odd. All of a sudden, this morning I get a continuous network error on OGYT despite both mobile and wifi working.

What does it means that you can not install?
What appends? Which errors are shown?
You should give more details, in order to receive help ?
