Unsure what to do next with LG E970, perm bricked? - AT&T LG Optimus G

Pardon the pun but I have hit a brick wall with my LG e970. Last night I followed this guide to root and unlock the boot loader and everything appered to go fine. Today I recieved my code to do a sim unlock and, this is where everything sarted to go wrong. After entering the code the phone tried to do an automatic reboot and hung on the LG logo screen. After doing some research and getting the phone into download mode I tried to unbrick it using this guide. After I finished flashing it I tried to reboot and to my dismay nothing happened, I mean nothing. My phone no longer even turns on and when I try to boot into download mode I get a QHSUSB download prompt on my pc. Is my phone toast? Is there any last resort actions I can take? Can anyone tell me what exactly happened?
Thanks in advance for any information.

following your links, your demise was the second guide you used. That guide is for the INTERNATIONAL VERSION of the optimus G, you have the AT&T variant, thus ending up with a nice brick(phones are completely different). Sorry to say but as far as i know there has been no progress on the QHSUSB mode front ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2458139&page=2). Looks like JTAG is your only option right now, might as well google about it.

wow, I'm not quite sure how I feel right now. That's what I get for becoming frustrated and impatient. Should have gone to bed and dealt with it in the morning. What exactly is QHSUSB? Is there any chance this is something at&t would deal with? I would rather pay a repair few then have to buy a new phone.
Thanks

Don't really know much about QHSUSB, just enough to know that when you get it you are hard bricked. Wouldn't know if at&t would deal with it(if it is under warranty you might as well give it a shot), otherwise go for jtag.

AT&T may try to charge full price if they decide warranty is void, or that could be just a myth. LG has a one year manufacturer warranty, I don't know their policy for covered repairs.

Never Rooted Can't Boot Up

My dad's Optimus T supposedly can't boot up after he took out the battery and the device has been never rooted or anything(stock). I can't take a look at the phone to see whats wrong, but I'm preparing for the worst and want to know how to flash stock rom with kdz to maybe get it back up and running. I found the KDZ file and I am wondering what else I would need besides that? I've never done this before and looking for advice. Also, my parents never bought warranty so do you think TMO will replace it because it was never rooted and it also has the dust problem. So would they replace it since it is defective product, but then again it's been a few months since we bought it.
Thanks.

well to be frankily honest with you, get yourself a job and start buying your own phones so that you can get warranties and insurance on your phone's also yes check with TMO about replacing the phone, no sense in using a utility like KDZ if you know nothing about it, I cant help you with KDZ, ive never had to use it and never will, but Im pretty sure there are tons of threads that can point you in the right direction

It wasn't my decision to buy warranty or not and this isn't my phone. I'm using KDZ as a last resort so I'm not 100% set on it. Going to see what TMO can do first, but I don't have any hopes that they will do anything.

well good luck to you on that, if you need any help, let me know and Ill try to get some info for you on w/e you need, keep me updated as to how KDZ works for you, I have no need for it but Im to damn lazy to actually do the research for a tool I wont use, the only problem I had was one phone I "accidently" semi-bricked, but was under warranty so I got it replaced and now my second phone is rooted, customed recovery and CM7 rom on it
If you haven't had a chance to take a look at the phone yet, then maybe you can start with that and trying something simple like taking out the battery, putting it back in, connecting the charger, and trying to turn on the phone? Then you can see what's going on. Maybe you'll want to try holding Power + Vol. down + Home to go into recovery from a turned off state. Keep in mind that stock recovery immediately begins its restore which (I think - custom recoveries spoil us) wipes user content.

Well, it's strange how it happened because this phone is completely stock and my dad or I never did anything to change anything to it. I really don't think it would get bricked just by removing the battery out.. I'll just have to wait until he gets back with the phone.
UPDATE: All phones have a 1 year warranty if something wrong with the phone so TMO took the phone in and sending a new one on the way.
Wait, so did you get a chance to look at it, or did someone else take it to TMO?

[Q] Emegency Mode Help

I am trying to put my Optimus S into emergency mode by following these instructions here: http://cheapcellunlockedphones.com/how-to-fix-a-bricked-lg-optimus-s/
I can not get it into e-mode for nothing. All I get is a black screen. Is there something I am missing?
Nevermind, I got it.
hm. well heres a try
it appears i cannot post to where this is most related...bricked p500h's optimus ones. phone number 3. koodo shall hate me but i will lie again and just say no turn on if noone has a solution. everytime its the update-openoptimus as the culprit, the flash after as per instructions with baseband(force close always occurs and thats the next step) fails and phone goes dead. no life. bricked. whats rather saddening is all the hundreds of posts i read here about people calling their phones bricked when they are in fastboot or emergency mode. hell life would be nice...little note to people. fastboot or emergency mode is NOT a bricked phone. phone going dead during a kdz flash and fail with NO SIGN OF LIFE afterwards is a bricked phone. im going to cry if i see someone else say. i haz yellow screen. ARRGH I BRICKED MY PHONE!!~! HAAALP OH YE WIZARDS OF XDA!!!
now..is there some trick to give this guy power aside from a charged battery and plug via ac or usb...some hidden little nub in this phone to hella reset the freakin thing? im not confident koodo gonna send another. although i will say i dont want a lg ill pay for an upgrade above n beyond. i just would prefer to make this work and say to hell with ciaoux (think thats how the young fella spells it) pretty rom...it worked the first time and thats why i want it its nice i liked it then phone bricked somehow. gone through two more tryin to get there. there has to be a way to give these phones some power tho...has to be! pls xda gurus: this is my first post and ive waited awhile for it. how to save p500h no boot no post.
cheers,.

No. Just JTAG. Forget it, it costs more than a PCB change or even more than a brand new phone.
lol ill try my luck, 3rd replacement(if i was honest with them none of em woulda been outright replaced, but hey i was stupid enough to brick it 3 times, not gonna be so stupid to tell the truth what i did!) tomorrow am i call and say ***k lg! gimme a nexus s! 16gb internal. really ive fought gettin the one rom with 4gb sd-ext for internal memory, non issue if i persuade them with my charm. this is what i shall do. next up...lookup what jtagging is. ive meant to. guess now i will. thinkin without a thought its jtag=tagged for garbage. yanno when they take them in and theres no power. they have no real proof, not the provider i doubt. only on amce lg gets it they know whats was done..if that. fill me in if im wrong. im quite good at gettin **** for free from telus/shaw/any of them like outfits.
JTAG is a device that will flash the dead phone with a working firmware. You need to dismantle the phone and connect the JTAG to a connector on PCB. Yeah, Google it, but as said, expensive and totally not worth it unless you are doing the stuff for living.
totally not worth it..as in how much can these devices be. and how much or where would they maybe be found. i get **** cheaper then most ppl in most cases if the right places are sought out....imma server guy to be honest but lately ive had a pile of this phone stuff start piling up. ppl dont wanna pay much but somethin can be made for sure so maybe, thanks very much for the info i be keepin my ears to the ground! my buddy is tryin to figure the formulas used for imei > puk and imei > unlock. thatd be some handy info to have too. i got this one real nice arc.....nice. boneheads tried random net unlock codes like 200 times before i seen it. shoulda asked about that before i shelled out $5 for a code i had in 2 hrs. lol guess this isnt the place for this discussion tho....
koodos sendin another. easy enough. now. wtf does this rom upgrade to ciaoux's update-openoptimus keep pooching my phones for though. 3 tries.. 3 bricks, never on the actual rom upgrade...but afterwards always force close so i run fix permissions in recovery, followed by the v20g_00 baseband upgrade........this is where it fails everytime. i should note, in the past the lge virtual modem has been present but disabled as required, but not lately. its now always lge android usb modem....i dont think i disabled that guy.....maybe the problem? really leary about running any kdz or lpdm updater now for sure. to call in a 4th time in two weeks with a dead phone my provider is gonna sorta maybe start askin questions......im pretty sure. lol goddam i needa large capacity phone, i haz a 20tb server but only a 512mb capaacity droid phone. messed. ****.

[Q] Phone won't turn on?

Hi, uh I started another thread on making sure things got backed up. Which I did properly and everything was good. So today I haven't done anythign and was waiting for the new slim rom to make it's debute hopefully this week sometime as that is the one that appeals to me the most. Anyways, today my phone just got super hot, far hotter than before and it decided to die on me...I think. it shut off and I haven't been able to turn it on. Could this be a side effect of installing twrp/unlocking the bootloader/rooting? Or would it be a defective unit? One concern I had was getting a defective unit so i waited out my 30 days before even considering doing all this. So yea my 30 days from att is up. Would there possibly be a way to get a new phone from att or does anyone have any tricks on getting it back online? I personally think it was an overheating issue, but my phone is now cooled down.
So i went to the att store and of course they won't do anything. They told me to call some number they gave me. If I return it will they know it was boot unlocked and rooted? I can't turn it on at all. Using a power source or connecting to my computer nor my car charger...

Ok, so, im not sure if by return you mean, return for an exchange or simply a return as ATT will probably only send you a reman unit for yours and not allow an actual return. If you havent called them yet, i would recommend it. I have dealt with them many times in the past and one thing that has always shocked me is that they never have asked me about, or even commented on, how rooting or unlocking prevents them from exchanging it. Even during the disclaimer, they have never once said that if the device has been modified they wont allow the exchange.
I say all of this because should they not mention anything like that, and you send it back, im fairly sure you can claim you didnt know and werent told, and they will take care of it. Also, i say this because i personally sent back 3 bricked GS2s and an lg nitro as defective and got my reman units and every single one of them were rooted and such. So, i would feel safe. As long as they dont ask, and you dont lie to them, then there shouldnt be an issue. I wouldnt lie to them, i just dont mention it. AGAIN DO NOT lie to them or attempt to decieve them, i would never encourage that, but if its something they dont ask about, then, it, in my opinion, is not something that they are too concerned with.

Okay, thanks for the response. Sorry I was in a bit of a panic when I wrote that. But I have called ATT and they didn't ask me or mention in any disclaimer that if it's rooted or unlocked it won't qualify. I didn't mention it and so that does make me feel a lot better. Hasn't been physically damaged or come in contact with water so i'm pretty sure I'm safe. Thanks again.

They may or may not check when you return the phone. I returned my S3 a few months ago in exchange for a different phone but I forgot to unroot it and uninstall Superuser. The representative at AT&T didn't even turn the phone on. I didn't have anything to hide though, if they told me I couldn't return it because it was rooted then I would have sold it and purchased something else. I think the manufacturer is the one to worry about with these things. LG would definitely know if it were unlocked and they would be able to determine if rooting and unlocking the phone caused the problems you described.

Well if they can turn it on I will gladly take it back due to them not accepting. I couldn't turn it on by anymeans, even plugging it in there is no lights to signifying it is receiving power. But i heard this phone had overheating issues in the first wave (or two) so it's probably for the best to get a new one. They are currently mailing me a new one and so I should receive it next week sometime hopefully.

im in the same boat as you... completely dead phone. But I did open it to see of the battery pull would work. Do you think that theyll check and refuse my warranty because I opened it? the phone on the outside is NEW. Btw do you have a contract/account with ATT? I bought mine off ebay and used it on tmo...
I have the exact same problem! Totally dead phone that the charging light won't even turn on for. Unfortunately there is a small crack in the bottom left of the phone that was caused months prior so ATT wont give me a new one...
send it for repairs! I had rooted and unlocked mine so ATT didnt cover my warranty, but I only paid 50 bucks for the repairs and now I have my phone back!

ya bricking sucks. But I swear there has to be way out. These phones seem so bullet proof to me. There has to be a fix..... I found this siteher: http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-note-jtag-brick-repair/ ......It seems to be what I need or possible one of those USB Jigs...... Anyone have experience with either??
So you can't get any bootloader action at all sounds like you sol Ive heard nothing but good things about mobiletechvideo if thats your only route left can you tell us what scrips you flashed might help.
If you get nothing out of it at all. Whatsoever.
You press buttons, it gives you the proverbial finger.
It's bricked.
A jig isn't meant to fix a brick, just force download mode on a Samsung device that has signs of life, but will not boot fully AND button combos do not work... commonly miscalled a "soft brick"
Only fix for a brick is jtag, mobile tech videos is a top notch shop, many kudos and recommendations.
studacris;
thanks for the clarification. I will be sending it out to mobile tech for a jag. Let you all know in couple weeks. Still $50 although a good deal of money adding shipping etc. is still cheaper than buying used. Plus I really like my note still and dont want to upgrade till note 3!!!!
Don't flash those zips again.
Yes, JTAG service will fix your phone. The cost is $50.
Oops. cris covered this very well. Sorry, I didn't intend to step on toes.

cracked+unresponsive screen and bump'd...

Ok so, I'm bumped and this morning my screen cracked, and became unresponsive to touch, but was acting as if I was making selections. (as in Pandora started playing on its own because I had the widget on my homescreen and I couldn't get it to stop without a battery pull). I have insurance on the phone so I can get a replacement, but its on backorder.
Now before I send it in for a replacement, I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas as to how to remove the bumped TWRP, and go back to stock recovery, without a touchscreen lol. I can't even unlock my phone on my own...sometimes it will do it itself, but that's only if I'm lucky :/ I think right now as it is, I'm stuck. But I'd really like to send it back without it being bumped, in case of voided warranty purposes and me not getting a phone, or even worse, them finding the method to achieve the bumped unlock, and then them end up patching it!!
What do you guys think? Any ideas or feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
You're going to have to try and do this blind, but how about tot city to reflash everything to stock?
Here's a link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/development/tot-vs985-10b-share-t2832488
There are instructions on how to go into download mode on the flash tool by using your volume & power key. The flash tool will probably tell you when/if you have a connection. Just make sure you have the lg drivers installed and you should be able to flash the tot file and get your phone back to stock. Good luck

Thank you so much for that suggestion! I'll be sure to give that a shot in a bit and see how it goes! No screen selections will have to be made in the process, other than signing in once its up and running, correct?
Yes. It should just flash once you get it connected and hit a button on the flash tool.
Take a look at this link as well just in case the other link doesn't help. It has good visuals to help you out some more:
http://www.androidrootz.com/2014/07/how-to-unroot-lg-g3-all-variants.html
FYI- at step 2, hold your vol up button for @ 5 sec and then plug in your USB - it should vibrate when it connects... I believe. Doing it blind sucks but I'm sure you'll get it.

Man thanks again for that suggestion!!! I knew about it but figured since I had an unresponsive screen, that I wouldn't be able to complete the process and because I've never had to reset this particular phone before, I just wasn't 100% sure it would work. Thankfully to your suggestion it did and is now sitting on the starting screen. Just what I needed.:good::good::highfive::victory:

If you have insurance then your G3 being bump'd should not make a bit of difference. I have returned several unlocked and rooted phones to Asurion with no problem. You're paying for insurance mainly for physical damage. Your screen is obviously cracked and damaged due to that so there should be no worries. Also, if your insurance provider wanted to try and figure out how the Bump method works they could easily get their own G3 and Bump it. Having your Bump'd phone is not going to give them any more of an inside look into Bump than if they got their own device and did what everyone else has done.

Ahhh thank you for that bit of info that would have been great to know earlier (for my own sanity's sake lol) but at the very least, I have wiped all my data clean which I would have preferred to do anyways before sending it back
I've returned 3 Samsung captivate phones to att that still had Cyanogenmod or MIUI on them, same with the 7 or 8 Samsung Galaxy S 3 phones I brought back on my insurance plan with Best Buy Mobile. They request it be stock, but if the screens broke they can't check it until the screen is fixed, at which point they will just flash it anyway.

Doesn't the insurance cover it, if it's lost or stolen? Sounds to me like you lost it.
It's good to know that they accept devices with 3rd party/modified software. I was never sure if the insurance companies did or not. If you send it to a factory service center they'll tell you your warranty is void for sure. Its all about finding a way to charge you $.
But I do think it's wise to wipe your device if you can. I used to do phone repairs for a large anonymous Korean company and I've seen a lot of amateur porn, credit card info, social security #'s and other personal info that really shouldn't be out there. People forget what is on their phones a lot of the time. Definitely take the time to wipe your device before you send it somewhere. Its ok to be a little paranoid sometimes
