Jerky google maps? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Has anyone else experienced a jerky google maps? I ask because my location dot on maps seems to only move every hundred feet while driving, opposed to being a fluid, continuous movement. I thought it was my note 2, but then I checked a friend's S4 and it did the same thing. May have been the latest maps update....not sure.

Mine was doing the same thing.
I always check the newest to see what they have added.
I don't think it will ever compare to the features of 6.14.4
You can get 6.14.4 here

If you don't like it just revert back to the new fubar

I ended up reverting back to an older version of Google Maps as well because I was experiencing similar bugs. I also missed having separate app icons for local, navigation, maps, etc... I went with Maps version 6.14.2, which I believe may have been the last version of that still had all the separate icons. It has been working well for me on my Note 2.
I also reverted my Gmail to an earlier version... I went with Gmail version 4.3.1, because I believe it was the last version available before Google updated Gmail to pre-sort all our email into the 5 different boxes... I just didn't like that.
When I was searching online for the previous versions, I came across a site named Android Drawer http://www.androiddrawer.com/
I thought you all might be interested in it because it has a huge repository of older apps of all kinds. Just search for the app you want and pick your favorite version.

Do you know a way to stop the older apps from showing up in the play store as needing to be updated? I have the hacked youtube that doesn't show up as needing an update, but my maps always does now. Not a big deal but it's nice to "update all" and not have maps update.

I'm not sure of a simple way to detach apps from the Play Store/Market. I thought Titanium Backup would easily let you do it, but it looks like it doesn't work anymore. I tested it out just a bit ago and it temporarily detached the app... but it linked back to the Market after a reboot.
User cthulu posted information in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50564811&highlight=detached#post50564811 , which talks about a fix. Credit should go to him if it helps you.

funny. I was unaware of the difference.
wonder why my stick figure comics page comes up from bing sometimes?
low stats and I never submitted it anywhere but google and Yahoo.
If you can get over the fact that it comes from Microsoft, the Bing app for Android is actually a pretty good app.
Here's a review of it: http://www.androidcentral.com/bings-android-app-redesigned-brings-bit-metro-it
I use the maps piece of it as I find the traffic overlays are more accurate than Google maps traffic.
The issue from the other thread (which unfortunately escalated into a shouting match) is that the latest version of the Bing app has something going on whereby the market thinks it is not compatible with 2.3 roms (I've tried both IHO and asop) and you cannot download bing if you are running one of these roms. If, however, you download Bing using a 2.2 rom and then restore it to a 2.3 using Titanium or another backup program, the program runs fine.
I don't have many more details than this. If you want to help debug and solve this probem, please post! If you are not interested, please let us work on this without snide comments about "why would you want to use bing?"
And please, do not post in the IHO thread. All Bing discussion should remain here.
Only bing I care about are cherries and Crosby.

I rarely to never use the market... haven't flashed gapps in over a month (never yet on iho)

Yahoo uses Bing's search results. If you submitted to Yahoo, it's also on Bing.
While it doesn't show up in the google market it does in fact show up in the Amazon app store. This seems to be either an m$ issue or a market issue. Not sure why everybody is so passionate about this as there appear to be multiple ways to install it all legit like.
Unfortunately, the version in the amazon app store is very old (version 1.02.530.20110404 which is from April.) The latest version in regular Android market is 2.0.546.20010811, released August 15)

As pointed out amazons app store as amazing as it is. It is lacking in updated apps. Partly because the approval process is a pain in the ass and partly because some devs stop messing with amazon because of the trouble to get updated apps pushed.
Another thing amazon app store doesnt check your phone to see if you can install the app all the time. Only if the dev has specifically done so upon uploading. I can download apps that will not work on my optimus from amazon and android market has it hidden from me.
There's noway that someone could just post the apk?
So i'm running IHO id have to flash like bumblebee or something? download bing, backup and then reflash iho??
Or just get it from Amazon
Sent from my LG-VM670 using xda premium
Ok but the one on amazon is an old version.
To me, the issue is not so much having someone post a copy of the apk (which is really a band-aid fix.) Rather, I'l like to harness the collective brain of this community to determine a root cause and see if we can find a fix or patch.
For example, is the issue caused by the market seeing O/S 2.3 and thinking it's not compatible?
Or, is it caused by the carrier ID code? (So, for example, can we use Market Enabler https://market.android.com/details?id=ch.racic.android.marketenabler&hl=en to work around the problem?)
What's wrong with Bing? its not like anyone uses it >.>
so i tried market enabler and i still wasn't able to see the bing app on the market. But i think that market enabler does not work with the latest version of the market. is anyone here on a 2.2 device? try to download bing please!

music 4.0
i uninstalled the current music (i uninstalled the orig photon music and i was running google music ever since day one) and pasted music 4.0 in system/apps did a reboot and it runs great.
although i do not see to much difference between V3 and 4.0, but it looks like it runs smooth and there are a few settings added (but then again i didnt play much with the settings in v3)
it also has a smaller widget so i added a shortcut to the app next to the widget. its whatev i guess.

It would be worth mentioning, that many other older apps work in devices not supported by googlePlay service.
For those wanting the last version before the current UI layout, the v7.0.0.22.28 are the one and its the best. Its when FB added capability to post pix in comments and other features, luckily, before the UI change. http://techloverhd.com/2014/03/facebook-7-0-0-22-28-app-download-for-android-apk/

well it seems that version 7 works for those who are missing messenger inside the facebook app it works well, good for old device
I've just been resetting/clearing faceaches data and cache to bypass the messenger download necessity, yes you still get the soon moving to messenger warning prompt but still not using messenger and on latest release again lol.
Regards as always
I wonder why are they pushing the messenger app now.
They been doing it for months ;(
Regards as always
Just use google translate this site. It does have facebook 3.7 version which didn't request the messenger and the file size 30% smaller than current version.

well i guess facebook closed the loophole fb 7 stopped working without messenger.... i would try 3.7 to see if it works

[REF] Bloatware safe to freeze list

When I had my previous phone, there was a list floating around that had all the bloatware from the stock ROM that were safe to freeze/remove. I did not see a list for our phones so I thought I would put together one. Below is what I have frozen safely with Titanium Backup. Please feel free to add to the list as I am sure there are more apps that are safe to freeze/remove and I will include it below. I think there's some variance depending on which version of Jelly Bean you're using. Supposedly 4.1.2 v20j may allow for more freezing. I think I was using v10x when I ran into the "security error." As I've mentioned, others have reported running into this same security error problem by removing Play Movies and Books. I still wouldn't label this list as "safe." At least some people are running into problems.

I think people that are having issues might just have a rooted phone only. To avoid the security issue they still need to unlock the bootloader.

I once sold a device and forgot to wipe out my google account. When they deleted my contracts from the device they deleted out of google and all the devices that we on it. (Nice that google has a restore feature). I could see under my apps on all the devices what apps the person was downloading. They didnt download to my handset but i could see them in the history and still can.
Not sure if there is an option within google play (for autosync maybe?), but if you sold a device recently, maybe all the apps that they download are pushed to all the other devices on the same google account? <---- This would be my best bet. Especially if it has been happening with multiple devices across your account.
maybe someone has your google info and is adding them on the web? (Would be very funny if so)
