[REF] Bloatware safe to freeze list - AT&T LG Optimus G

When I had my previous phone, there was a list floating around that had all the bloatware from the stock ROM that were safe to freeze/remove. I did not see a list for our phones so I thought I would put together one. Below is what I have frozen safely with Titanium Backup. Please feel free to add to the list as I am sure there are more apps that are safe to freeze/remove and I will include it below. These are just what I have frozen on mine and have not had any problems or force closes.
Please note: you would need to be rooted in order to freeze some of these system apps.

Yes it is safe. I'm on stock with my bootloader unlocked and I uninstalled the apps I didn't want. Some att and kindle apps were in a separate folder but I managed to uninstall them as well.

I bricked mine ("security error") by freezing Google Play Movies. There's another forum where others are saying that Google Play Books might also be dangerous to freeze.

I think there's some variance depending on which version of Jelly Bean you're using. Supposedly 4.1.2 v20j may allow for more freezing. I think I was using v10x when I ran into the "security error." As I've mentioned, others have reported running into this same security error problem by removing Play Movies and Books. I still wouldn't label this list as "safe." At least some people are running into problems.

I think people that are having issues might just have a rooted phone only. To avoid the security issue they still need to unlock the bootloader.
I could be wrong tho, but it seems likely.

[Q] no Google plus app in the app store?

hi all and thanks for reading. I can't seem to locate ther Google plus app. am I doing something weong

thanks! much appreciated.
why can't we see certain apps like this and Netflix on the app store?
If you where able to click the link, and the market displayed the application, then it means you probably overlooked it during your search. As for netflix the new update wouldn't show for me either.

By default, it will not show up because it needs fine-grained GPS.. which the Nook Color does not have.

No, you are not doing anything wrong. Google has chosen to enforce device requirements on the app, so now it won't list from the market on an unsupported device.
Accessing from the web browser, you'll see the following:
"This app is incompatible with your Bn NookColor" Note: if you renamed your device, it may not show the same device name, but it's the same result.
Same with Netflix and other apps you can't get on the device. However, if you'd downloaded the APK before this, you can still see it on your market. However, I've not received any new updates, so either no updates or it won't update if not available for the device in question.

I have G+ on both my Droid X and NC (I just made a backup of the .apk on the DX using "My Backup Pro" and moved it to the NC). I have not seen an update on my DX since 1.0.2, so I don't believe there has been an update in a couple weeks.

[Q] Disabling bloatware / AT&T apps

I haven't seen a list of bloatware / AT&T apps that are safe to remove. So I thought I will ask:
- Which apps that you know are NOT SAFE to remove?
- I keep seeing in the task bar a double-arrow icon, indicating that an AT&T app is checking for software update. As a matter of fact, I did receive a message from it about a new software update. Which .apk I need to disable for this?
Again, this is only for the bloatware.
I deleted everything that had at&t in front of it. At&t messaging, my at&t, at&t navigation and the at&t update services thats the blue and red arrows you are seeing. I did this through task manager.

Thanks for the info. No problem so far with freezing these AT&T apps, including AT&T Update Services?
BTW, when you said "delete", did you mean "freezing it with Titanium Backup" or you actually REMOVE the .apk?
I froze the above apps using TB, but it is still shown in Google Play as being installed and needing update.
You can search XDA for "apps safe to remove". The SGS-II forums have a spreadsheet that works for the note.

With Google Play, the feature to DETACH from Market no longer works. So even if the app is frozen, it is still shown in Google Play, especially if there is an update.
This applies to ALL bloatware. After a while, you'll see tons of these in your Google Play list and you no longer can select
"Update All".
Can we SAFELY move the .Apk from /system/apps?
I deleted them. I froze them first and then deleted ecerything with at&t on it through task manager.

I delete a majority of the bloatware, especially if I know I will never use it.
How did you DELETE these built-in apps?
There is NO uninstall feature, even when accessing it from System --> Applications --> Manage Applications.

If you have root on your phone, many third party apps will allow you to delete them. A popular one around here is Titanium Backup. I highly suggest installing this and purchasing the key (although the free version will work just as well). Its a staple in apps to install for rooted phones.
I deleted them through task manager. I used the uninstall feature. Try it.

Just a helpfull hint for safety.
Personaly I would use titanium backup (in batch) to freeze apps you may want to uninstall.. leave them frozen for a few days to ensure there are no problems.. if once your sure there are no problems you can uninstall them (delete).. Uninstall can be done most of the time though the task manager .. but if that does not work titanium backup will most defently do it..
As someone else pointed out.. I did a search for i717 app safe to remove and got this nice spread sheet..

Successfully Frozen Apps

Now that we have some root access, I figured we could use this thread to report what apps we've successfully frozen/uninstalled, and using which app.
So far from using Rom Toolbox (Pro) I was able to freeze the following:
-Amazon
-Amazon Kindle
-Backup Assistant Plus
-My Verizon Mobile
-SEAndroid
-Setup Wizard
-Sync Service (backup assistant)
-Verizon Login
-Verizon Mobile Security
-Verizon Remote Diagnostics
-Verizon Tones
-Verizon Navigator
-Verizon Voicemail
-Voice Recorder
Uninstalled:
-NFL Mobile
-Audible
Cant find/figure out:
-Viewdini apk (no idea what this even is)
-VZW Mobile Hotspot apk
-Audible Re-installs itself.
Some of the apps were stubborn and needed to be frozen a couple of times for it to stick.
I have frozen via TitanBU:

You do know that the built in disable feature cannot disable every app, right? Hence one reason some of us root out phones.
Disabling app is the same thing as freezing if YOU watched the Google videos from there YouTube channel they explained it but Google is not gona use the stupid word (freeze) so they went for (disable) its exactly the same effect and does exactly the same thing nothing different at all !

I could be mistaken but i think when you don't root, there isn't ALWAYS an option to disable an app. I know on my wife's phone there are some apps she has to leave in the app drawer because when you go to disable it, the "disable" button is greyed out. You can't click it.
If you root, you can disable EVERY app, even the ones with the greyed out buttons.
But i'm sure if i'm wrong you will correct me with all caps and annoying exclamation points

All i have to say is one thing and hope this guy can comprehend .... If root is pointless to "freeze/disable" apps and only for flashing roms... then explain to us how you can disable Verizon apps without root (like VZ Backup Assistant) cause without root, the disable button is gone or grayed out.

I imagine they'll get removed eventually, but would get removed sooner if people reported them. Shame you can't report apps from your browser - you have to use the app. I did report the bricking app though. That's just plain dumb, and unfortunately some people need protecting from themselves!
I see no point why we can't report apps like that from our browser. It's obviously malicious.

Well we can't do much and neither can Google as there are tons of new apps coming every day and many such malicious apps are bound to get past restrictions and be available for download.

Has anyone else experienced a jerky google maps? I ask because my location dot on maps seems to only move every hundred feet while driving, opposed to being a fluid, continuous movement. I ended up reverting back to an older version of Google Maps as well because I was experiencing similar bugs. I also missed having separate app icons for local, navigation, maps, etc... I went with Maps version 6.14.2, which I believe may have been the last version of that still had all the separate icons. It has been working well for me on my Note 2.
I also reverted my Gmail to an earlier version... I went with Gmail version 4.3.1, because I believe it was the last version available before Google updated Gmail to pre-sort all our email into the 5 different boxes... I just didn't like that.
When I was searching online for the previous versions, I came across a site named Android Drawer http://www.androiddrawer.com/
I thought you all might be interested in it because it has a huge repository of older apps of all kinds. Just search for the app you want and pick your favorite version.

I'm not sure of a simple way to detach apps from the Play Store/Market. I thought Titanium Backup would easily let you do it, but it looks like it doesn't work anymore. I tested it out just a bit ago and it temporarily detached the app... but it linked back to the Market after a reboot.
