Okay so ive seen a few posts on xda from the s-off devs already. How long you think till we get unlocked and rooted?

Not long. Lol.

The international one has root and recovery already. I guess htc dev works to. Maybe us at&t users will luck out.

US carriers promised to lock things down tightly after the One came out. I guess we'll see.

Good thing i have a 14 day return period lol. Cant live without root.

do we know if this device has a locked bootloader that will be hard to crack or will they actually design it to be unlocked like sony does.
im trying to decide between m8 and z2, and i know sony has been cool in the past with allowing the phone to be easily rooted and unlocked to allow flashing. i am coming from a galaxy s4 with unlocked mdk bootloader but i am upgrading and i want to be able to mod my phone

did anyone try htc-dev or kingo?

I ordered an m8 to test our cases on, but the z2 is the one I'm really looking forward to. It will have to be amazing though for me to give up my Note 3 screen real estate!

Yes the att model can be unlocked through htcdev.com . Let's just hope ATT don't pull a VZW and yank it like they did with the M7!

Confirmed that htc dev unlocking works on att..

I would assume this voids your warranty with at&t and no relocking and going back to virgin status?

I have returned quite a few phones that I have relocked and unrooted without one problem through warranty exchange. I'm not concerned with it at all and I am on the Next program as of this phone. Besides that, the warranty is up after the 1st year. This is just my experience and I can't speak for everyone.

Ok so my camera used to work, im s-on rooted running a rom, camera app shows up, no preview and the buttons do
nothing. So, has any one had this and was able to fix it? What did you do? Any help would be appreciated.
And im a week beyond the 30 day warranty so no trading for a new one, and I don't really feel like sending it in to HTC

Unrooted and relocked bootloader, still no camera. Even did the latest RUU and no rear camera! will my htc warranty still
work since I did the htcdev unlock????????????????
If your still within your warranty time frame you should be fine. My last EVOLTE had major antenna issues and Sprint gave me a new one, even though it was rooted. And yes the tech knew it was rooted.

Ok but i'm out of my 30 day, so I'm stuck with the htc warranty. I called Htc and they said my warranty was fine. If they try to go into recovery, since I used HTCDEV will they just kick it back to me?? I don't know if some one will know this for sure, thought I would ask.

Hey Buddy!
Just send it off to get JTAG before you take it out of the box I just did one that way. I picked it up and powered it on though before I stuck it back in the box and shipped it out.
Honestly I'd probably buy one outright and save the upgrade for a new phone.

The devs exploited the bootloader to get us unlocked and achieved a 1 minute s off process. Then one of the updates closed up the hole we were using basically. Everyone who ever unlocked before the update is fine. it's only phones that didn't have the CID changed (HTC-Dev hboot unlock is achieved by changing the CID from Verizon's to a custom 2222222 CID then using htc-dev.com like normal) that can't be unlocked.
JTAG accesses the service ports on the main board with a special hardware called a riif box. It accesses the device at the lowest level so locked bootloader is no obstacle. It's like what the manufacturer uses to flash the DNA firmware onto the board. So its kinda like if HTC plugged up the phone and unlocked it and turn the security flag off.
You send them the phone, they open it up, wire it to the hardware box and use the accompanying software to do whatever you need, it will even flash at a low enough level to repair a true software brick as long as its not a hardware explosion or something that bricked it.

Whatever you do, don't let it update when you get it! I recommend not installing the SIM (so it can't phone home) and unlocking it first. If you're not too comfortable with using adb, I think my writeup (in my sig) explains it well enough for you to follow.

Will do. I spoke with AT&T today and they said the phone hasn't been checked in yet and to call back on Friday.
I have exchanged Silver with unlocked BL, it was stock and not rooted, so just relocked and gave it away to Att, about two weeks now.

Unlocked Boot loader AT&T = Dev Edition M8?

If I unlocked bootloader on AT&T does it become equivalent to Dev Edition M8 hardware wise? (I know that they come in different software flavors).
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
I'm just trying to reason why will anyone want to buy a developer edition?
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
The only benefits in buying a dev edition is:
No carrier branding
No preloaded carrier apps
Sim free
Bootloader already unlocked
Faster updates with Sense
But if you unlock your AT&T bootloader and flash a international rom you'll have the same device with no more AT&T apps and settings.
Plus with root you can always flash the latest leaks from any variant

So there is nothing s-on or s-off kinda junk limitations? We get fully unlocked bootloader? I'm really happy with this phone in that case!
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
If I'm correct both devices are S-On.. One just has a bootloader unlocked from the factory. And once we get S-Off then it wouldn't matter what rom or RUU you use. You'll be able to SuperCID and do much more

If you don't have a tethering plan, tethering works out of the box on the unlocked and developer models. Then there's the AT&T bloat you can't remove without S-Off.
Other than that, they're pretty much the same and I'm happy with my bootloader unlocked AT&T model, though I would really like to get tethering working.

When you unlock your bootloader you void your warranty. We can do whatever we want to our devices and still be covered under HTC Manufacturer Warranty. You Bork your phone you have to find a way to fix it.
Tethering works out the box without being detected as well.
I always find a unbranded version a advantage over a carrier version.

S off your device and than supercid. When all the RUU are released you can flash any of them. Right now we have a GPE conversion. Besides that we can flash any rom we want. Be careful and always remember to read if it is compatible with your model.

My credit card covers my phone warranty for two years as long as I purchased the phone via it. So I'm covered. If something happens, all I gotta do is take a brick and bash my phone with it, my credit card will cover hardware damages as well. Lol.
There are ways around everything, you just need to know it. Either way, I've never been scared to lose crappy warranties just because I felt the need to unlock the phone lol.

Yeah I have Sprint. And I know the HTCDev tool doesn't unlock a stock bootloader completely. I'd rather not buy it to find out its half-ass'd unlocked

ok, but I do believe the Developer Edition will not work on Sprint or Verizon as it does not have the necessary band for CDMA and LTE. I would double check that. I had no problem unlocking bootloader or S-OFF through Sunshine. Even after the current OTA.
I do believe sprint and Verizon need to provision a device to get it to work on their network. Why not just buy it from sprint if that's your intention. Its easy as pie to unlock.
