Post HTC M8 Pics and Video Quality - AT&T HTC One (M8)

Hi,
I thought it would be nice to have posted here pictures and video sample to see how good or perfect is HTC M8 camera under different light conditions.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

I took a few shots to compare against my Nexus 5. Honestly, the One (M8) impresses me in every way... except for the camera. It's not looking very good to me. As you can see, the color and exposure is way off in most of the One (M8) shots, not to mention the much lower detail compared to even the 8MP shooter of the Nexus 5. Is it even as good as the original HTC One? Should have taken a few pics with it too I guess.
In this first image, the back wall should be red. The One (M8) makes it look orange, and the HDR shot just looks even more overexposed.

One (M8) HDR
In the second image, we are looking outside. It's late afternoon, the sun is close to setting, and there are dark rain clouds with sun shining through, making everything look a bit orange. The Nexus 5 image captures this well and definitely looks the most like reality. The One (M8) incorrectly makes it look midday and sunny outside, plus there is some major overexposure again.

One (M8)
One (M8) HDR
The One (M8) without HDR captured the most correct lighting in the third image, but the overall detail is still lacking compared to the Nexus 5.

edit: Uploading to a different image host so that the images aren't compressed and you can open the full res versions in another tab.

By the way bad news: no OIS in new M8. Video on YouTube looks really shaky.

i would never say that after studying both...seriously...

Lets wait till the reviews are out. Many people was dissapointed with the HTC one 2013 Camera, but many of Professional photographers were too amazed with it because of the settings you could set in different sittuations, i have seen a lot of really good pictures with it and as soon as Professional photographers get the HTC one 2014 in their hands i bet there will be a lot of realñy good pictures, especially with the new tools (ufocus) they will look like
DSRL pics.
As HTC itself said, this phone is not for the normal people, it is for the people who knows

Since I have no life,
here's a few photos I snapped with the N5 and m8
Welcome: HTC One (m8) vs. Nexus 5 Camera Comparo

I will post some pictures soon, but I will say that the M8 isn't that bad. As far as quick point and shoot, my Galaxy S4 is better, but if you fiddle with the settings, you can get good results. Focusing on the area that I want to capture, and also turning down the exposure, has given good results for me. I can deal with it, but for handing the phone to someone else to take a snapshot with, hmmm, we'll have to see how that goes.

Took few pictures the first is without hdr with Iso 1600 with daylight setting . The second is same settings above with her. The third is with Iso 1600 with cloudy setting and HDR

Not all HTC M7's were affected by this, my brother has the Verizon M7 and he never had the low light purple tint issue while my M7 has it. Mine arrives today so I will verify and let you know unless someone else tests it as well. But nobody so far has complained about it on the international forums yet.

I like it. I just hope they don't let the camera stick out half an inch like the One X.
See I agree I love the design of the one x and one s. But I don't understand why. HTC insists make that damn camera protrude out. Apple and Samsung do just fine with out that non sense ( no pun intended and.the have some of the most epic cameras out.

Hate that so much. The lens on my Evo 4G was scratched up a couple of months after I bought it. I suppose I could lay it screen down on my desk, but then I have to keep flipping it over to see anything. At the very least, make the lens scratch-resistant, or recessed enough to not scrape across the surface it's on.
And I prefer the looks of the AT&T version of the One. The Sprint version is just another plain black slab -- why do we get such ugly phones on Sprint?? Still gonna get one though
See the thread located HERE......
How do you figure that. Rim isn't going down hill because of bad hardware. There going down hill because of outdated software. Rims 9930 is a solid preice of hardware. Now if they catch up on the software front that would help them tremendously, maybe look into bigger screens for there next Gen phones. HTC has solid hardware and beautiful software. Just to much implementation of sense IMO.

HTC had a huge hit in 2010 with the Evo. They had a down year in 2011 (how do you follow up the Evo???), but they're generating a lot of hype with this new One line. I don't think they're going the way of RIM. And by the way, smart move if they're going to concentrate on a single line of phones rather than pushing out a new, differently named phone every month.

Fireworks filmed with LTEvo.

The camera on our phones seems to not really like random flashes of light at night. It did turn out much better than my the video my buddy took on his iPhail...err iPhone.
**Note: Due to the fact that the fireworks were firing off VERTICALLY and I was only about 20 feet away. I had to shoot the video VERTICALLY in order to capture as much of the fireworks as possible.**
Ha, you called it "iPhail". I see what you did there. So clever.
No camera phone should be expected to take these types of photos with great clarity. I think you were expecting too much of this device.

I'm not saying the video on the phone isn't what I was expecting. I was just saying it doesn't seem to cope perfectly with bright flashes of light. Frankly I'm quite impressed by the quality of video this cellphone puts out.
You should set the iso so it isn't on auto. That why it won't keep trying to automatically adjust, which slows things down.

Well, I wouldn't go that far. My buddy just showed me a video from his iPhone, and it actually turned out pretty damn good. I was very impressed with how it did with no light, and then all the fireworks going off...
And everyone knows I'm completely ANTI-IPHONE around here, but it impressed me enough.
I didn't take any video last night, but I was taking photos and managed to grab this.

You two do realize that the ONLY reason I took the video vertically is because the fireworks were shooting directly up into the air right? The videos would have been rather retarded if filmed horizontally seeing as how I was only about 20 feet away when they went off. So how about next time prior to flaming a video for being filmed vertically, you actually use your head and think "hmm I wonder if there was a reason behind it being filmed this way?" Dumb a**es.

Install it and find out. What can it hurt? Just be sure to do a backup.

Well, the mod is for the Nexus 4 which shares the same camera hardware as us not the Sprint version so I would assume it would work. I saw the Nexus 4 post about it awhile ago but am keeping completely stock until I have a reason to go modding/flashing.
I just checked, and yes it will work on our phones. Both the AT&T and Sprint variants have the same exact media_profile.xml file, so you should be able to just follow the instructions in that thread.
Anyone try it? I'm wondering if it helps at all.

as far as I know there will be Sense 5 but with all the features of the One X (like the whole camera stuff etc.)
But will it be based on 4.1.2 or 4.2.2?
You can probably assume 4.1.2 since the One is launching with that. Unless this update comes after the One has already been update to 4.2.2, in which case there is a chance.

It's not a cut down version, simply each phone uses a different version of the same base with hardware specific tweaks.

Given how slow HTC is with the updates and then each carrier, I will have probably moved on from the HOX+ by the time it's official. Our best bet is for one of the fine devs to port Sense 5 to the HOX+ based on pulls from the One.

Just came back home from HTC ONE presentation here in Nottingham... It is nice piece of hardware but... Did not have the WOW effect for me as Desire had... sorry... It looks like HTC made sense 5 more stock android looking not just flat icons and graphic
Camera is slightly better than HOX+ and it is not sticking out which will save the lens, speed of the system similiar but blink feed is perfect, full hd screen and sound also. But not much difference, missing remapping of keys... 3 dot menu everywhere, it needs to be tweaked a lot... Scrolling is similiar to HOX+... I'm not so impressed as I expected
We will get full sense 5 but bear in mind hardware limitation... that was the answer from htc staff
Don't beat me ... I would love to see it on our HOX+'s but not buying phone with such small difference

The rest of the protection from the DMCA covering software modifications has either just expired or is about too. I'm not sure about rooting, but things like jailbreaking iphones will defo be illegal. It won't impact us europeans much. And the protection will almost certainly be reinstated when it is revised later this year.

I believe it is illegal to carrier unlock the phone in USA. But the other reason I think it's not illegal with htc is because they allow you to do it versus hacking the manufactures software who did not allow you too.

FINALLY! I picked mine up on Thursday in South Dallas, Las Colinas to be precise. They had four in stock & mine was the first one sold. They did not have any of the dot view cases, nor any other, but they had the device & I picked up a hybrid from Amazon, black bumper with a clear back, that fits perfectly & adds the much needed surface for grip.
The M8 very much surpasses the M7 in every aspect so far. The overall construction is far superior to the M7, which says a lot, since the M7 was also well constructed. It is the most premium feeling/looking device out there.
I am also hapy to see manufacturers are FINALLY standardizing hardware components. One of the reasons I went back to HTC & away from Samsung is because of how seamlessly you can switch between Intl, carrier & GPe firmware versions. Something I feel Samsung has still yet to figure out, providing many variants with varying processor chipsets.
I love beinig able to go from the Nexus-like experience of a GPe device & a Sense Rom & while the camera may not be the worlds best, it is improved over the M7 & just as good if not better than the S5 in many conditions. Sure, you might not be able to print 5x7's if you zoom & crop, but if you take the picture you want & frame it correctly to begin with, it is great.

I work in mobile communications and we got a memo saying they can be sold as soon as we receive them so I'd assume that applies to every carrier and retailer

Does the store have them in silver or just the gray?

Just gunmetal at the store I got mine from.
Edit: the gunmetal looks so nice though.

I think I want to swap the gray for the silver, I am just nervous the silver/white plastic will stain over time.
Can anyone coming from an m7 or someone with a silver m8 comment on this?

I went into my local At&t store on Thursday and the guy said i could only pre-order. So anyway, Friday afternoon browsing their site they had a store locator for the device. It said they had them in stock. So i called up and sure enough she said they got a few in to sell. So i ran up there and picked mine up. They only had the gun metal color too. Does at&t even have the silver color in their lineup? I know the gold is exclusive to Best Buy.
Awesome, they are in stock in Atlanta I'm probably going to wait for a $150 or less deal to come to AT&T first before I buy!
32GB version?
Were any of you able to buy the 32GB version in store? Or were they all 16BG?
Thanks!
