[Q] Note 3 on Credo? Root? Custom ROM? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Verizon continues to give me headaches (like that's a surprise).
I'd like to move to a Note 3 on Credo. I know they use the Sprint network but that doesn't necessarily mean all the Sprint hacks will work on their phones.
Anyone worked with a Note 3 (or S4) on Credo? Possible to root? Possible to run a custom ROM? Able to do anything without tripping Knox?

I have been using Credo for several years and have rooted several phones and installed custom ROMs on them. It always works fine. The only thing that sometimes doesn't work is MMS, because the APN for Credo is different than Sprint I guess. Everything else has worked flawlessly. I am running MiniN3 Maximus on my Note and the MMS works fine. I'm upgrading to KitKat now so we'll see if it still works, but I would bet it will.
In short, everything works fine using Sprint ROMs on Credo. Having unlimited data and a hacked Wifi hotspot is awesome.

I mostly concur with these positive experiences with Credo and CM, except that without setting the proper Credo APN on CM10(+?), you also won't be able to get 4G/LTE service.
There's a useful thread about setting the Credo APN on the S4 at http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/84151-credo-mobile-4g/

Good to know. I've only ever used touchwiz ROMs or sense (when I had HTC) ROMs, never AOSP or CM, and didn't come across that problem. The only APN issue I've had was that mms wouldn't function until changing APN, but on the Note 3 I haven't even had that problem.

Verizon I-545 with T-mobile sim Q&A

I know this has been addressed a few times, but with the new radio's and T-mobile running on LTE bands I feel it can be addressed again.
I have been running a T-Mobile sim in my Verizon S4 for about 9 months now having 90% functionality of T-Mobile apps and after 4.3 using LTE with a few MMS hiccups that seem to have been ironed out.I have ran just about every ROM available here on XDA, and even attempted to write my own Rom a couple times with limited success. And every ROM I have ran was written for Verizon, I just changed the APN settings, and sometimes had to flash some other items to get them working 100%.
I have a few things I am working on trying to "fix" such as Hotspot and a few T-Mobile only apps. I have convinced my phone it is a SGH-M919 changing a lot of info in the build prop, which allows me to use the T-Mobile TV app. But being a trial and error kinda guy I don't know how much of my editing was necessary, or if I actually needed to change more to allow me to use the hot-spot app. I have bricked my phone to many times to count trying out Radio's and changing setting in the ROMs trying to make my I545 more a T-Mobile phone than a Verizon phone.
I have seen alot of "ports" such as the 4.4.2 GE that I am currently running ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2643031 ). The first release I had amazing signal and no connection issues. But after the DEV (Danvdh) plucked away at it making it work better for Verizon and fixing a lot of Verizon data issues has started to have a couple signal issues here and there. Nothing that I would say broke the connection but definitely slowed a few things for me down.
Same for the INT build ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2552605 ) from jrkruze it works amazing then started to slowly after updates not work as well as it did from his first release. The ROM got better but my "connection" got worse.
So on to my question:
What is being changed in the ROMs that make them better for Verizon? I know that I am part of a small majority of people here running a SIM and a network that it was never supposed to run on, but it does work and I would like to make it work as best as it can. I know I can go back and use the older versions of the ROMs but I like the other changes and I like being able to update.

How do you have LTE working? Correct me if I'm Wrong but TMO has LTE on 700/1700, the i545 doesn't support either of those bands. HSPA+ with a 4gLTE logo maybe?

The AWS spectrum was unlocked for the i545 a few updates ago. Since TMobile LTE runs on the AWS band, a Verizon S4/i545 is capable of running TMobile LTE
AWS was unlocked with the MJ7 modem.
I get 29Mbps down 6.5 up defenitly not H+ the whole Seattle area is AWS so I am loving it. That combined with T-mobiles truly unlimited data I torrent on the go!
Do you receive SMS? I just switched about an hour ago to T-Mobile and everything works except for receiving SMS messages. Not sure how to get it working.

you have to change your APN settings.
If you are interested I am working on something else, that would give us T-Mobile guys a working 4.4.2 TW ROM...

[Q] one max on t mobile.

I'm currently using my bone stock untouched Verizon max on t mobile. Looking for a rom that will work well on this carrier, or better than the stock Verizon rom in global mode. I did put in apn settings however mms msg's are hit or miss as well as lte. I get lte randomly, but mostly stay in "h" but the factory Verizon rom won't let me edit carrier code settings (310-260 for t-mobile).
So in the short if anyone has successfully done the switch to t-mobile with their Verizon variant one max and what rom worked the best for you or worked well in general would be appreciated.
Thanks
my experience
I have the sprint version and I am using it on t-mobile. Vipers rom has the best stability and options. You should be able to edit apns and everything on there. I was having issues but I believe mine to be strictly from being the sprint version, which i know i should've found the verizon one, but too late lol.
I was running CM11 and everything was working for me but I had random lockups when the phone was asleep so i went back to using Viper rom.

Moving to TMO from VZW, Need Help

ive been with vzw since 2002 so the only thing i know about tmo is their plan of unlimited everything with 5gb hotspot and wifi calling. my questions are as followed:
1. is the s5 rootable?
2. can you use flashfire with it or do i need a custom recovery like safe strap, twrp, etc?
3. can i use unlimited hotspot as opposed to 5gb? will tmo find out if i do use a root method to bypass it?
4. are there go custom tw roms available?
5. can i get xposed running on tmo s5?
6. how good is the wifi calling? i have fios at home running 50 dn and 50 up, so im not concerned with bandwith.
7. im on long island ny, anyone from the NY area, can you report back on service?
As of now, i have a rooted S5 with MOAR Rom V8. I also have flashfire along with xposed. i dont have a custom recovery but with flashfire, there is no need. Im also on an unlimited data plan with vzw, so if i move im not porting my number until i test all this out. Basically i want what i have now, but with tmo.
Any help is much appreciated!

1. Rootable yes
2. Never used flashfire, but yes twrp/cwr no safe strap since tmos bootloader is unlocked.
3. Theres hacks but eventually all stop working for some reason or another
4. Tmo based wise theres a few. Or you can run international roms and be more up to date firmware wise and more rom choices. You do lose wifi calling and tmo crapware tho
5. If on kitkat works great. On Lollipop Ive heard its buggy on touchwiz but its being worked on to fully work. So yes
6. Ive used to like 5 times on accident. Worked well. (I really have no need for it)
7. No clue. I live 100s of miles south.

hey, thanks for the response
quick question about losing wifi calling, i feel like i will really need it, i have a big house problem and in the basement i get 0 bars from verizon. the fact that wifi calling is a feature on tmo is huge especially if the service will be similar. do you lose wifi calling on tw roms or is it just international roms where you lose wifi calling?
hows your service where you live? have you done a speed test?

Just if you run international roms. If wifi calling is a must stay with tmo based touchwiz roms.
Pretty good. I've gotten 60s and 70s on speed test. And seen people pull over 100mbps
FYI not sure if you are going to buy a t-mobile S5 or if you already have one but the Verizon S5 will work with T-mobile roms flawlessly and is already factory unlocked to work with a T-mobile Sim card. I get WiFi calling and all with mine. If you want to know how just look at my recent posts in the VZW section its surprisingly very easy.

Can I "convert" my phone?

I have a Verizon Note 2. The ROMs available here for it are either stuck in KitKat, or littered with bugs that I just can't live with in a daily driver.
What I've wondered is can I flash TWRP for say the N7100, and then my phone will think that's what I have and let me flash those ROMs? Or, can I maybe even flash a different bootloader for the same purpose? Is this possible? I really want to get a couple more years out of my Note 2, but if I can't find a usable ROM then I'll be forced to say goodbye to it. So, can someone help?
I run a lot of at&t roms. I have tried a great number of ROMs and I have found that t mo Vzw at&t and international all work. But you have to set up APN stuff yourself. And never ever flash a modem or a ROM that includes one. There is still some kind of lock on the basdands.
Seriously, have you tried any of the AOSP roms that are on 5.1.1. XenonHD, CyanideL for instance. Rock stable, beautiful, fast. You could easily get another 2 years out of this phone once marshmallow hits.
Also, Alliance 4.4.2 TW ROM is rock solid.
I have a note 5 that sits in the drawer. Note II = best phone I have ever had. Will cry when it dies.
"Rock stable" is a subjective term, I guess. I personally don't consider the lack of bluetooth google voice commands, and the lost of 4g requiring setting APN settings to default to be "Rock stable".
Seriously.
Heh... If you struggle changing APN settings, you are gunna be in a world of hurt using a TMO ROM.
All you have to do is delete the APN, and reset it. That is with any 5.1.1 ROM.
Guess I never encountered the Bluetooth bug.
Have you tried XenonHD?

My point is that with a "rock solid" rom, the APN settings would just work and no resetting would be necessary.
Initial setup and long term stability are two completely different concepts IMO. Anything other than stock is going to take some initial setup. Whether that be applying GAPPS or SU or flashing kernel, or APN, or theming.
I guess I don't know what you want. Weren't you talking about flashing N7100 ROMs?? You know how much setup it will take to get those to work?
Again have you tried XenonHD?
So, I'll pose the question again...
Can I run other Note II roms that weren't designed for the Verizon version of the phone? If so, how exactly do I change the APN settings to accommodate my Verizon service?

No, that wouldn't be a good idea. Because each carrier has their own version of software for the Note II, they cannot be cross compatible. I once had a Sprint S2 and tried flashing an international ROM onto it, and let's just say that didn't end well. I got it fixed with some luck tho. What are you trying to accomplish by getting a Tmobile/ATT/SPRINT ROM? Also btw another reason is because AT&T and TMobile run off of the GSM bands and Verizon/Sprint run off of a CDMA band. The two don't mix. And no you can't flash a Sprint ROM either, as they use different CDMA bands.
I have the i605 Verizon variant of the Note 2. I changed service from Verizon to Straighttalk and since straighttalk uses AT&T, if I use a verizon rom on AT&T, incoming calls and outgoing calls are a pain in the ass. So, in order to accommodate this problem, I had to install the i317 att note 2 custom recovery version on my i605. I use the ATT SlimKat custom rom on my i605 without any issues. battery life is good and pretty stable. it is safe to odin flash an AT&T custom recovery to a i605. but if you flash a custom rom, be sure it doesn't have a modem or boot.img inside or you will run into problems. Generally stay away from TW roms as i've found they usually have them.

AT&T - Le Max 2 X829 - Volte & WiFi Calling

Hi All,
Just wondering if there are any AT&T users out there that have the Le Max 2 X829, and have volte and wifi calling working? Currently, I am running [7.1.2][OFFICIAL][VoLTE][ Resurrection Remix. Everything works, only I am not sure how to get WiFi and Volte working over AT&T. Any input would be appreciated.

I believe the problem might be your apns. Im on metro wasn't getting volte. Back a backup of your rom. Edit your apns, just change something in them and save. They should dissapear. Do that to all your saved apns. Than you should have a different set of USA apns pop up.

Waste of time. AT&T won't (can't?) activate those features on LeEco phones. I had to move to T-Mobile because I needed the WiFi calling.

Yeah t mobile not that bad and cheaper and the wifi calling is a must for me as well.
T-Mobile here as well, well the Walmart Family plan, but the same. WiFI calling is working with no problem.

Trentbg - Do you also have the Le Max 2 working on T-mobile network w/ WiFi calling, or is it a different phone?
Yes, thats what I am saying x829/820, T-mobile, wifi calling is working.
T-Mobile WiFi calling
Hi all. I have a quick question... I flashed my LeMax 2 (X820) with Lineage 14 version. So far so good but there are two questions that I have... In LOS 13 there was a theming built in. Was it removed from LOS 14? And the second more important question...I see posts about WiFi calling working on Tmobile...is it based on the stock firmware of LOS and if it is LOS, is there any specific way that I need to enable it? I don't see it in the menus
Which ROMs have both Wifi calling and volte settings both integrated? I see a lot of [VOLTE] in the titles for these ROMs, but not much mention of Wifi calling. I'm far more interested in integrated wifi calling first.
I switched from AT&T to T-Mobile last week. So far I love the coverage! I've only been able to get WiFi calling to work with EUI. And even then, its sketchy. Has anyone successfully gotten WiFi calling to work on other ROMs besides EUI? I personally cannot stand EUI, and would rather use LineageOS, RR, or something similar.
