[Q] Custon status after stock restore? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I have restored back to stock nab via odin and still have custom status. Deleted all data with TWRP before I restored, removed sd card, and have restored 2 times and still get custom? Any ideas on what could be doing wrong?

what i always do is after flashing in odin. i boot to stock recovery wipe whole device. then i re odin and wipe again. usually gets me official status.

Try taking the battery out for a few to do a full shut down hold the power button after battery is out to drain residual energy in chip set.
Make sure you leave the sd card out during first boot after odining back to official and doing the factory restore.

Do what @kaos420 said, or go-to stock recovery and just do a factory reset.

That method worked for me

Yes this will restore stock recovery. Do you have the engineering bootloader? If so you will have to flash back to the stock bootloader.

[Q] SOS What happened to my phone?

While I was in CWM, I wanted to install a different Rom,
so i factory wiped everything, installed what i've thought a rom, but it turned out to be just a kernel, FFC support kernel,
so I went back into recovery and tried to install a rom but i ended up just instailling update.zip on my root of sd card and rebooted.
now im getting a bootloop, quickly a screen goes by saying install not complete..
What can i do ?
I would advise using odin to go back to stock reroot the phone and try again

Odin'ing back to stock should fix your issue. Here's a guide on doing so... http://rootzwiki.com/topic/605-guid...nja-apps-everything/page__p__11106#entry11106

Weird Soft Brick

Went to ICS, didn't like it, nandroided back to GB (Unofficial), when I got there the phone would boot but would hang up at the first touch. So I wiped, factory reset, reinstalled the ROM, no go. So I just odin'd back to stock, same problem, I can't do anything to the phone without it freezing and rebooting....AND now I've lost CWM and my counter has been tripped from Odin.
Any ideas what I have done/can do?
Please HELP!!!!!
Flash stock through Odin, re root, flash CWM again, flash ROM again. Flash country doesn't matter any more with the reset fix we now have.

I did flash back to Stock and I'm still having all of these issues, do you think redoing everything would help?
Yeah probably. Then once you're in CWM clear all caches and whatnot if you can get back to CWM

Yes...ics came with a new bootloader
Odin back to stock
(flashing/android back to stock and odin back to stock two different things)
Thur u arrrrrrgh
Sorry I'm lost now, what steps should I take?
Try following this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506330 for getting GB back. If that doesn't work, post back.
EDIT: that's just the kernel, flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504999 with CWM then use odin to flash that.
wipe everything as if installing a new rom.

I've gotten CWR back on, and I've noticed that when I wipe it says 'Error mounting /sdcard'. It can't perform a factory reset.
FWIW, I went back to stock, put CWR on, nothing worked, finally flashed back ICS, and its working again. Lets hope it stays that way.

where do i get the original recovery to flash???
so i flash it in clockwork recovery, and when phone reboots it is back to OEM????
what i mean is the stock GS3 software.. when i am in clockwork recovery, i wipe the system and i flash the stock software, where do i download it from?? thanks..
So you don't want to unroot you just want to use the stock rom?

see if this helps. i know when i had to unroot it worked and kept all my data but if you are taking it back to the store for warranty you may want to try the app called "triangle away". the app makes it so they cannot tell if you have flashed any ROMs.
check out the development section for how to go back to stock. once i got it back up and running..i also went to settings, privacy to do a system reset as i didnt want them to see superuser app when i took my phone in to the store.
I am still running the stock Rom, I just rooted the phone and flashed clockwork recovery.. I'm trying to do a factory data reset. To reset the phone back to the out of box state. I am under the assumption that when a phone is rooted and a custom recovery is flashed you can not just go into settings and factory reset your phone or you will brick it. Am I correct in this assumption? And if I am corect what I think I have to do is flash the original recovery, then I can reset the phone to factory settings which will wipe it back to stock and remove the root.. correct? I am just not sure where to get the factory recovery. Doesn't clockwork recovery replace the factory recovery?
Yes factory reset after having cwma will not restore back to stock. You''ll have to flash stock via computer or mobile Odin. The link provided above should be helpful
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
If you just want to unroot - removing Superuser.apk, su and busybox works.
CWM will stay though.
Then do factory reset and format internal sdcard. That will remove all user data.
So.. if you have clockwork recovery, and you factory reset the phone, it will put the factory recovery back?
I thought trying to reset while having a recovery flashed would lock up the phone...

If your still having trouble here, the answer this question & alot of others is at galaxys3root.com. It's one of Zedomax's sites that will give you clearly labeled & very easy to follow instructions to unroot for warranty return. He also includes a video where he will walk you step by step through the process. This is a great Site & you can find some great tutorials on the gs3, as well as rom reviews, so be sure to bookmark it! I hope I've helped
no no, i dont want to just follow instructions.. i am trying to understand CWM. i know how to use it, but every phone i ever rooted i was never able to reset back to factory settings because i was never sure if it would screw my phone up and i am trying to learn if it is safe t do. Does CWM replace the factory hboot or just install along with it? if i am rooted and i have CWM flashed, can i still reset to factory settings like normal? and if i do what will happen? will i still have root and CWM?? can i reset back to factory in ANY rom i flash safely? all that resetting back to factory does is remove accounts and .data files correct?? when you do a wipe in CWM it removes the entire OS, then you flash whatever rom you want.. when you reflash the factory ROM, unroot and remove CWM, hboot is still there correct? you dont have to reinstall hboot, right? you just have to make sure you reflashed the original ROM and uninstall root and CWM and then your back to original right?? i am just trying to understand it all thats all.. i know i can follow directions, but i am trying to learn. any site i find explaining CWM, it just explains what it does, i am trying to learn HOW it works so i can feel safe and i dont have to worry about bricking my phone. i was always too afraid to reset any phone i ever rooted because i never fully understood how CWM worked.. i always thought of our phones as a PC, where as a PC has a recovery partition with the software backed up in it, and i always think CWM wiped it clear, so if i try to reset the phone it will be looking for a partition that's not there. but now i think my PC analogy is wrong, and all a factory reset does is remove the .data files, not re install the software.. im trying to figure which one is true..
Bump
Guess were all in the same boat lol
after flashing stock back to the device, it also goes back to stock recovery. after boot, you still have all apps ex. titanium but once u open it will say no root access. u can then go to settings, privacy, and factory reset to get rid of titanium, etc so it is complete stock. no one would be able to tell of your past..lol. i was rooted earlier in week and made mistake of resetting to factory reset before unrooting. nothing bad happened and i unrooted and factory reset to take it to the store hope this clears up stuff.
if you are returning to a store flashing a stock Rom was all I needed to do a warranty exchange.

Use the tar in the development section it will restore u to stock then go from there

Be sure to follow instructions. Take your SD card out, flash stock and do update before you put the card back in. Otherwise the phone will still think your phone is modified and you won't get Samsung updates.
followed still no luck

I followed instructions. I downloaded garwynn's mi3 stock restore tar. I followed the instructions and loaded the tar file via ODIN (took out SD card). Before booting I then went into stock recovery and reset factory data. Once that is complete. The phone went through upgrading apps, then rebooted and now seems to be in a boot loop. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Did you put the SD back in? My Note 3 bootloops if i remove the SD and put it back in. If so try removing the SD then seeing if phone boots. If SD is not a issue redoing flash is your only choice.

The SD card is out. If I put it back in I get the same result. Would the version of ODIN that I am using matter? Is there another way to flash the tar file? I have a feeling that there is something with the way it is partitioned? I know when I took mine home from the store it was flashed with MI5.
Thanks again for your thoughts and help.
Potential error with restore of TWRP backup?
Rethinking what got me to this situation... I believe my error was trying to restore my TWRP backup, seems like there are others that may have the same issue. Is some way to fix this? Or should I take the phone back to the store...

No Safestrap and No Rom

Okay guys, my phone is not booting up at all.
- I flashed hyperdrive, didn't like it and went to safestrap.
- I factory reseted, and tried to restore my old backup of the stock rom.
- I rebooted the phone, now it won't boot up anymore.
Was the backup corrupted? Now I only have stock recovery since safestrap didn't stick, and no rom, so I can't do anything.
Any way to install safestrap using adb or some sort? Please help me out, I'm in need of a phone

I think you'll have to use Odin to flash whatever stock build you were on.

I'll try that, thank you!
Edit: I can't retrieve my backup because it's on internal memory and stock recovery doesn't have a file manager.. how will this work?
Doesn't the rom has to be in a .tar format for odin?

Exactly... Your going to have to call Odin in to rescue you. If it doesn't fix things with the no wipe, unfortunately the full wipe is going to be the way to go. Good luck!

there is a reason why hashcode set up safestrap to keep stock rom safe and why he offers no support to those who wish (at their peril) to flash a custom rom over the stock rom.
I have my rom stock rom intact and have 2 rom slots loaded each with there own custom rom and with a 32gb extsd card, have no issues with memory space.
