[Q] Debranding/RSPL question - 7 Mozart General

Hello, bit of flashing noob here. I'm preparing to debrand my Mozart as I am not able to upgrade to 7.8 through simply updating or using the force update tactic on zune.
I have read many guides of how to do this, of which this seems to be the most comprehensive:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002391
I have got all the prerequisites required to complete this process. However I have also heard a lot about RSPL/HSPL, which is not mentioned in the guide above and despite a fair bit of research I still do not fully understand it.
I suppose my question is
a.) do I need RSPL to debrand my phone or do I just follow the guide posted above^
b.) if I do need RSPL, at what point in the updating process
I'd greatly appreciate answers in the 'debranding for dummies' format
Thanks in advance.

Android NOOOOOOOB

Ok guys so ive just bought a uk orange branded hero, and i dont have a clue about android or linux for that matter, so i hope you guys could answer a few questions for me, ive looked at the stickys in the android development section, and now im more confused than before lol
1) What is rooting? and what is the process ment to achieve?
2) like i said i have a uk orange branded hero, now what is the process i need to do before i can start flashing roms? it seems a little more complicated that just flashing hspl like am used to lol
root is the system administrator of a unix system. you might wanna google that if you don't know what it is.
depending on your fastboot version you need to flash the custom recovery image, from there on it is a piece of cake. if you don't need to downgrade your system then flashing the custom recovery is also a piece of cake.

My intention is to give balanced advice to all those who intend to modify their new Android.
Ask yourselves, what do you intend to do with root access, if you want your phone to do all simple tasks, no need to root. I would say get familiar with new OS before deciding "Root Way."

Rooting is the process of gaining full system access to your device. This has pros and cons (you can modify anything and really tweak the guts of your system...but you can also truely fubar the whole thing a lot easier too). If you don't have a need to root, I generally advise against it.
Flashing custom ROMs are an unsupported method of customization...but it, like rooting, has some potential gains. Some ROMS give more speed, some ROMs include more features that you may or may not want. Flashing ROMs are the reasons most people root (as to flash the ROM, you need root access)
Thanx for all your help guys, i read all that info and spent the last 2 days learning lol 2day i sucsessfully downgraded my rom, routed and flashed modaco 2.9
Goodlad!
Excellent. Now please tell our forum members which road you drove to get to root, so that someone with same enthusiam can also do same. You dont have to write whole page, just majot points and references or links.
Thanks.

Windows Mobile 6.5 - Help. :)

So I don't know much about this stuff, the extent of my knowledge is how to get a .cab on my phone and install something like Manilla 2D on my HTC Touch Dual(model no.: NEON400).
I saw this thread: ttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567027
which is pretty much what I am asking.
Can so please give a more detailed tutorial on how to do all of this stuff about HardSPL and Radio and stuff? If you need to know what rom I am looking at putting on my phone it is this one:

Sorry for being such a newb but I just don't want to **** up my phone.
*PS: I had to remove the h on the url due to the new member link restriction.
-Please use the 'Search' function first, and check the manuals already made available for the Niki.
-First read the manuals completely and follow the steps meticulously..!
-Before posting your questions, remember that everything you need to know, to flash your device, is probably already made available for you on the board.
-Take your time to find out what you need to know before you flash your device, or you 'will' brick it..!
I can't hspl my Neon400 using the same things as used for the Nike, I've tried and it does not work so this thread is obsolete. But thank you for acknowledging my trouble and taking the time to try to help.

[Q] Rooting x10 Questions

Hi there,
I'm rather new (so sorry if these are dumb questions) to all this flashing / rooting / de branding and had a few questions about it..
Well i bought the x10 on mobile network 3 (three uk) and tbh they are ****. First phone i had i debranded using the SEUS copy file method over, but since then i have had them replace the phone. i tried the same method but as SE have updated SEUS i can't get it to work... :|
So looking around i started reading up on rooting.
Firstly if i follow this guide forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711907 will that debrand the phone to the generic firmware?
If that is the case will i then be able to get future updates through SEUS or not?
If i rooted the phone, would there be anyway to go back to the so called unrooted version?
And lastly, what are the other pro's and con's of rooting?
Thanks, and sorry if these are silly questions!
Spud
Hi.
They aren't silly if you don't know the answer, but considering a search of the forum and browse of the guide (which you could have posted this question on) would have given you the answers it's an annoying post.
Read the rules and browse THIS section.
i had been researching the topic for 2 days before i posted here, i understand the majority of it just not the questions posted above.
i followed the link you posted but it did not answer my main question
will that debrand the phone to the generic firmware?
If that is the case will i then be able to get future updates through SEUS or not?

After searching google with can I run seus after rooting, I found this thread - [Q] Questions about rooting my X10i
Total time, 30 seconds.
thankyou
sorry, just seen so many posts about it didn't know what to properly search for
pardon my ignorance
No worries, but it is frustrating to see new threads asking questions that have been answered a million times already. In future just post on an existing thread instead of starting new ones.
To answer one of your other questions - What is rooting and why should I do it?
yes i can understand that entirely being a member of other forums myself.
In future Existing Posts it is!
Thanks for that link as well, definatly explains things in more detail!

[Q] Newbie - Need help updating. Difference between rooting and upgrading

Guys,
I'm sorry. I'm not sure if I'm re-posting a topic which has already been answered but couldn't quite find a similar match.
I'm a newbie to the Android world and have just managed to get my hands on Streak 5.
There are few things which I would like this community to help me with
1. What is the difference between upgrading and rooting?
2. Does these two (Rooting and Upgrading) have any inter-dependencies; example - One cannot be completed without the other?
3. I'd like to upgrade/update to Gingerstreak. For a newbie like me, what are the steps of upgrading?
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Cheers
Nick
Rooting
Changing/Upgrading ROM
You DON'T need root to upgrade the ROM on the Streak.
Id recommend trying dsc rom first, gingerstreak has been quiet for a while (development wise) dsc is being worked on everyday and constantly being updated , also in my experience gingerstreak was no good for me and others due to random reboots etc, but its upto you, have fun! Happy streaking!!

1. upgrading is like windows xp to windows7, for android its from version 2.1 > 2.2 > 2.3 and rooting is you got access to locked system files, which could be harm to your device if you don't know what are you doing.
2. no both are different.
3. there are so many guides but i recommend you to google yourself for desired result / process, otherwise you may brick the phone.

[Q] Currently using gingerbread, unlocking bootloader

Hello,
I have a Motorolla Atrix 4G purchased from Bell. The phone was updated to Gingerbread 2.3.6 already.
I have rooted the phone following this guide http://androidadvices.com/root-motorola-atrix-4g-45141-gingerbread-236-firmware/
Using the moto-fastboot files from here http://www.android-advice.com/file-downloads.php?filename=Atrix_Root_Files
I'm trying to unlock the bootloader so I can ultimately install CM7, but my understanding from this forum sticky http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160408 is that I can't do this without bricking the phone, since I had already done the official gingerbread update.
So if I'm correct, I need to follow this guide... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
Except that guide and the warning sticky are referring to 2.3.4, not 2.3.6...
Could someone please lend me some knowledgeable input and/or guidance on this? Greatly appreciated, and thank you for your time.
Solved my own question. Phone is unlocked and functioning.
To anyone else who might be helped by this, that guide I posted DOES work for 2.3.6 on Bell... Even says so approx. 13 pages into the discussion (took me awhile to find it).
Just like to thank this community for existing, and all the effort and time you guys spend to not only develop, but to help others by publishing these great resources.
