[Q] NO SIM Error- SCH545 on GSM??? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hello XDA!
After reading here that all verizon S4''s are network free, I bought an almost new one to use in Europe(Romania).
But even after i checked global everywhere , the phone says"NO SIM-insert sim card", and refuse to work at all, no voice, data wtatsoever. Also, i cant change the APN (but since there isnt even voice or sms, it isn relevant at this point)
Is there any tutorial for a newbie that i could folow to get the phone working in 3G?
Thank you very much. P.S. I'm on 4.3 stock

I have the same problem. It says no SIM when I put my country's SIM card. When I put ATT sim, the phone shows that there a SIM inside the phone.

its odd, since it is supposed to be a global device. Maybe flashing a custom ROM should remove the restriction?

Sounds like you have a bad SIM, or perhaps something wrong with the way it's cut. My i545 works fine with European SIMs (other than the annoyance with the "Non-Verizon SIM" warning).
You can't change the APN since you don't have a SIM installed, and you can't use GSM without a SIM.

BTW, eKit is also gosim.com.
No, I'm not using CDMA - the service in the UK is all GSM. You install the SIM then set the phone to GSM mode to use it. I've used the eKit service for years, starting with my incredible 2 which is another CDMA/GSM hybrid phone.
When moving about, I get service from Vodaphone, O2, AT&T UK, and probably others. I really don't understand why your phone isn't recognizing the SIM.
Is the service in your country CDMA by any chance? You don't use a SIM to activate a CDMA phone, so perhaps what you have is some proprietary thing that's not a standard GSM SIM.

I fixed my problem by using a different SIM card. When I put it, it picked up the network automatically.

sarcasim is a good thing but maybe you aren't comprehending what i am saying duhh!!
i own NSPRO box and have unlocked the galaxy S phones quite frequently, the phone is sim unlocked for any sim card or gsm carrier, what i am saying has nothing to do with unlocking with the sim card in( which i tried for ****s and giggles). the problem is the vibrant is not recognized on the network , i have tried my sim and several other t-mobile sims the phone doedn't receive signal on t-mobile network or simple mobile( which is a NVO of t-mobile)so what i am asking is does t-mobile block imei's from their network and is their a solution other then changing imei of the phone which i do not wish to do although i can change imei i will not since it is illegal.
the problem
let me clarify it actually says on the screen
"not registered on network"
anyway to register it on system???
its unlocked and works on at&t, h2o and all other gsm carriers except t-mobile and simple mobile
clone another imei, that will solve this problem, There is an app that allows you to give you a new I D # to your phone
I am same problem here everytime try to make call it says "Not Registered on the Network", SIM card works fine on different phone, also other SIM when inserted on Vibrant gives same message.
Under Settings> Wireless> Mobile network settings does not allow access...
Can someone help resolve this situation.
Thanks,
I am also
having the same problem. I purchased a used Vibrant from my friend whom defaulted on his bill so he sold his phone to me. When I attempt to use the T Mobile prepaid SIM or a regular T Mobile SIM it will not allow me to connect to the network. It stays on (Searching) or (No Service) but the date and time updates so I know it is connecting, just not able to use the network. Is there anyway to get around this problem or do I need to root and unlock to go to another carrier?
Hi guys I am having similar issue, please help
I was using bionix 1.3.1 by team whiskey, whats your advice do I change to ICS, will that solve the problem or simple radio upgrade will solve the matter? I have gone through several sites and found that this problem is with many android mobiles since last 2-3 years. Is there no solution to this yet! I have tried Airplane mode, removing battery, downloading autocut and all those basic methods but to no help ...
I have the same problem, did anybody find a solution?
I tried everything, flashed to stock, GB, ICS, JB.
My phone is unlocked and it only works on AT&T, the sim card is good, as I'm using it on my backup phone.

Same here. This all happened when I let my friend borrow my phone to put his SIM on it. It was a prepaid Simple Mobile SIM. It didn't work but after I went to put my SIM card back into my Vibrant, the phone never got service.
Funny thing is, my SIM works on one of my older phones, so I know the SIM still works, but my Vibe gets messages like "out of service" and "not registered on network" even through it still has some bars.
I think the problems relates to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37703090#post37703090
Somehow the bands on your device is messed up so you never get a signal. Not sure how to fix it but any solutions would be great.

[Q] Galaxy S II no signal

Hi guys, I've just got my replacement SIM card today but there is no signal for the SIM on my Galaxy SII Gingerbread 2.3.3. I popped the SIM into my old Nokia phone and it is working fine so I'm pretty sure it's not the SIM. I googled and looked around the forum but found no solution. Already message the carrier and they say the phone is not barred while the SIM is working fine on my old Nokia phone.
In the "About phone/Status" the phone number is unknown, network is O2 UK, signal strength is ok, mobile network type is "HSDPA", service state is out of service. IMEI number is normal. When I dial any number it says "mobile network not available".
If this thread existed before, I really apologize for making a new one. Any help is really appreciated
Have you entered the network details in the phones settings ??
jje
Where'd you get the phone? Sounds like it's a SIM-locked phone...

I believe you're referring to the 3g network? If so then my problem lies in calling and texting itself. There is no network signal as there is only a circle with cross. If not, how do you enter the network detail

This phone is an international version I got from my home country Vietnam and it's already unlocked. I was using UK SIM fine until the December holiday. After I returned from Vietnam, the SIM stopped working and I ordered a replacement. Can flashing new kernel affect this cuz I tried some new one during the holiday? The IMEI is still normal though, I checked
i have a problem ...
with miui or wiui , my debit of 3G is bad. I download at 20 ko... with official rom i download a 300 ko ...
why ?

Have you tried the SIM in another phone? Or a different SIM in this phone? Could be either the SIM card is bad (which the replacement SIM will fix), or the SIM card slot on the phone went bad (which the replacement SIM WON'T fix).

Kind of rude to hijack someone else's thread... But I'll answer anyways. My guess is that your official ROM has modems more suited for your country and carrier, and MIUI (or WIUI - never heard of this one) doesn't. You can probably fix with flashing a different modem. But I can't tell you which modem to try.
I have always try e few modem and it's doesn't work .

Try some more. I doubt you've tried them all. Maybe some kind soul who is also on your carrier (which you have displayed on your profile as Orange) in your location (also in your profile as France) can tell you which one.
I popped the SIM into my old Nokia phone and it worked fine so it's not really the SIM. I was thinking maybe there is something wrong with my software but you brought up a good point about the SIM slot I'm gonna try it out and see first
ok . i will try another modem.
thanks
no, it doesn't work ... i have tried a modem who is ok with checkrom or ics or official samsung but don't work with miui . it's strange because it's ok with miui NDT

[Q] GSM on XT910 EU doesn't work with SIM installed.

I'm on ICS 676.226.3.XT910.Retail.en.EU and my phone fails to register on a GSM network. All other radio modules (Wifi, BT) work just fine. Phone is unbranded.
Problems started on 672.180.33. I decided that it was a faulty radio module and installed a new leak. Unfortunately, nothing happened.
Phone is able to identify that the SIM card is inserted, it can read the contents of SIM card and it shows the phone number that is stored on SIM card. It also identifies SIM serial number via 'SIM info' app.
I did the reflash. Wiped both phone storage and internal storage. Again, no results.
Also, when doing a network operator search it finds all operators in my country. But still it fails to register while doing a manual search.
I tried another SIM card from other operator and everything is the same as with the main SIM card.
Should I get a new SIM card from my operator? Or is it a problem with phone?
Solved the problem. The SIM card was the problem.
Tried another SIM card and it worked.
Anybody using the Razr on AT&T GSM in the USA?
I called Verizon wireless and they told me that with the new ICS update the Droid Razr has been globally unlocked. Does this include AT&T in the US? I tried using a sim that I had on my AT&T phone but it didn't work even with customer support trying to help from AT&T. I'm going to change the sim tomorrow to determine if that's the problem. Thanks for the help!

From what I understand the phone is not unlocked to work on AT&T or T-Mobile. It can use most over seas GSM providers tho
Yeah i went to grab a new sim from AT&T and it still doesnt work. Although it does detect AT&T GSM/UTMS access points. As i understand it, the issue is in the software not hardware capability. Any roms that allow for AT&T use?

[Q] How to unlock SIM (free) for Japanese Motorola Photon (AU-Kddi)

Hi,
I am wondering that is it possible to do sim unlock for Japanese Motorola Photon (Au-Kddi)?
I am looking for free option (I know that by paying for unlock code, we can do it)
I want following:
I am having Motorola Photon (Japanese version simlock) and I want to use it in India (GSM carrier)
Please help to unlock sim( without paying any money.)
Looking forward to hear from experts.
Thanks.
If you are using your phone outside of the United States you should already be sim unlocked.

Thanks John for your kind reply.
I purchased motorola photon in JAPAN. When I got photon, it was without sim card (carrier Au-Kddi CDMA).
So, I am not sure even it is sim lock or not. (but I think that it must be locked version)
I am planning to use it in India (not in US)
Could you confirm following:
(1) Do I need to unlock it to use it in India with GSM operator?
Looking forward to see your positive response.
Thanks.
As far as I know, the sim lock only applies to US carriers. But, if you're able, try putting a prepaid sim card, or one from a friend's phone in your device and see. You may have to go into settings to take it off of cdma only. I think that if your phone works with any sim card at all, that you'll be able to use it in India. Good luck!

John, your Japanese is good. I am really impressed!!!
As you know that in Japan all cellular service providers are CDMA. So, for me it is difficult to check with GSM sim (because I dont have any GSM sim for testing )
Further more according to my understanding, in Japan all phones come with sim lock. i.e. if I am user of 'Au-Kddi' then I cannot use same hand set with 'Softbank'. (I guess that it is same case as US)
May you provide me some other work around to make sure that photon will work with any GSM provider?

I checked your suggestion. I have attached screen shot. (Pl see attachment)
I got four options as following
(1) KDDI only -> it is my current CDMA service provider
(2) Any CDMA -> I tried this option and inserted another service provider CDMA sim card but after booting, phone is asking for unlock code. if I will choose dismiss button then it will not allow to use phone. (Only SoS service is available)
(3) Any GSM/UMTS -> It gives error that insert sim card. current phone donot have any sim card and if i will insert card then situation becomes same as above mentioned case 2. (Only SoS calls)
(4) Automatic -> same as case3.
My question:
Currently, I dont have GSM sim card. So, I want to try option 2. I want to try another service provider(CDMA) sim card
Please let me know how to solve this problem?
Thanks

CDMA doesn't use SIM cards... or do they in Japan? only GSM uses sim cards. you will need a GSM sim to test GSM. no way around it with the stock OS that i'm aware of. so buy a GSM sim.

[Q] Using Spring Photon 4G with Israel Sim Card

I have a Sprint Photon 4G which is no longer active on my account. I want to use it in Israel with an Israel sim card (Orange network). From everything I've read here it seems that should work without a problem, but when I called Sprint (to unlock the sim of my husband's Galaxy S4) I asked about the Photon 4G and they said that while it is not locked it cannot be used with a foreign sim card unless the phone is active on my account (which it is not). Is this true? Will it work to just put in the Israel sim card and adjust the settings appropriately or is Sprint right?
Thanks.

I'm using a SIM card of orange in Israel. Actually my photon is heavily customized but I think that nothing should be done in order to make it able to use foreign SIMs. If you will encounter problems with the Spring app that connects you to Spring's services you'll always have the option to root your device and remove the stupid app. Like here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265816&highlight=bypass+sprint+activation
However, it's about time to unlock the bootloader (if you don't use the version that makes it impossible) and have some fun!

I don't want to bother with unlocking the bootloader or rooting. I'm not using the phone regularly; it is the phone I had before the current one (which doesn't use a sim). Since it can use a sim, I will just use it for overseas travel.
תודה רבה!
