Hi,
Does anyone have a working WiFi Hotspot fix?

Just a heads up, buddy. I flashed TWRP via Odin (from our root thread) and then flashed the Omega v1.2 ROM for the International S5 (there's a thread here for it, I can link you if need be). Hotspot works fine out of the box!
Plus, you can also have the pleasure of saying you tried the first custom ROM for the S5. Everything appears to be working as well, so I'm gonna stick with this. No CIQ, no Knox, Hotspot is a go.... I'm a happy camper now!

Correct. Once you hit your limit on the account they throttle you. I blow through 19GB average a month and the 5GB limit really upsets the Kid in the backseat when all she gets from Netflix on the iPad is <Buffering>
There was a fix with the S3 that avoided the throttle bottleneck.

I'm only set for 2.5gb a month, but I'm on a business account also. I tether all the time and go way past the 2.5 most months, they throttle me down. What your saying is that they won't be able to monitor the Hotspot?

Have you all tried Wifi Tether Experimental. I'm not sure if that requires a custom kernel or if it will work with stock.

Someone will make a rom with Unrestricted Native Tethering + Evade Data Cap Throttle + MORE! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2057344
Then you get free Tethering from data lte not Hotspot data

I have been using WiFI Tether Router for a long while now. It gives you unrestricted tethering. Make sure to read the instructions for T-Mobile phones on the developers Web page. https://sites.google.com/site/wifitetherrouter/home/device-configuration it works great as long as you are rooted. I use about 120GB a month with 2 AT&T phones tethering off of me at work. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter

First your phone needs to be rooted, and then you need to have ES File Explorer installed on your phone. You can use ES File Explorer to edit the file in the system folder.
1. Open ES File Explorer
2. Pull up the Menu for it (hold down the multitask button for that)
3. Tap on Tools
4. Turn on Root Explorer
5. Tap on Root Explorer on the left side and go to Mount R/W
6. Make sure all of the settings are set to RW, tap OK
7. At the top of ES File Explorer tap / that should take you to the root of the phone,
Now go to System, CSC, and open customer.xml
When you click on the file it opens it up in read only, you have to hit the menu in the top right corner to edit the file.
Be very careful and only change the things below. I would make a back up of the file and place it somewhere you know you can find it. What you are going to change is in bold.
<ProfileName>T-Mobile US LTE</

Save the changes and reboot
Once you are restarted navigate to where the APN's are. System Settings, More Networks, Mobile Networks, Access Point Names. Once you are there click on the top right corner and tap Reset to Default. That should update the APN, you can now go in and verify that under T-Mobile US LTE the APN protocol is now set to ipv4. If the change didn’t pull over you should be able to edit it and change it to ipv4;
These are the Wifi Tether Router Settings from the developer below. Make sure that your WiFi is turned on before you start the app.

FoxFi is free in the Play Store. Just click "Activate WiFi Hotspot" and it does the rest.
If you don't have tethering enabled on your account that would explain why it is turning itself off. It calls home to Momma first. You can fix it if your phone is rooted.

I haven't done it since I have the 5 GB plan w/tethering, but I believe you have to freeze the Tethering Manager.

That is for GB. I believe it is different in ICS. I know I've seen the file somewhere in browsing of posts, but can't remember where. When i do a search it pulls up all phones forums. Can we do an advanced search through browser? Will check later.

WiFi Tether on Rooted OTA VRUAME7

I rooted my OTA VRUAME7 Verizon S4 but can't seem to get wifi tether to work. I've tried both of the newest Wifi Tether for Root (3.3 beta 2 and 3.4 experimental 1). Changing the device-profile to S4 doesn't help. It will start up and say "started with errors." Checking the log results in a "no log file" error.
I also hunted around with SQLite Editor trying to find an entitlement check, and came up empty (to use the built-in mobile hotspot).
Has anyone successfully figured out how to WiFi Tether on a rooted OTA VRUAME7?
Thanks in advance! :good: :good:
To add the hotspot toggle:
Download app => Click Me
Got to => Settings storage
Click => settings.db
Click => system
Search for "notification"
Highlight => notification_panel_active_app_list
Click the edit "pencil"
In the "value" section add "WiFiHotspot;" anywhere you like...
Restart phone
Note: Make sure your list ends with a semi-colon
If you see the warning screen, just hit home.

GS4 Wifi Tether Fix (root only)

Hey guys/gals, here is a fix for the VZW GS4 that resolves the issue of WiFi hotspot tethering. In the latest update, you now get an errors message that checks for an active subscription and then gives you an error and turns off the hotspot. Here are 2 methods I found.
Method 1: Download any app that allows you to freeze/defrost packages. If you cannot find one or do not have one, download an app called System Tuner by 3c. You have to find a package called "SPG" (system package). Freeze this package and it will prevent the phone from checking for a subscription service. Run your non-factory hotspot app. It will crash and maybe freeze for the first time, and then exit, just reopen it and it should then work.
Method 2: Using System Tuner, find the package called "SPG" and click on it so that it becomes highlighted. Then click "Details" so that it brings up the info about the app. It should show a list of packages under the "Activites" section (near the bottom). Uncheck the box labeled "NewSPGActivity". After this, you can run your hotspot app and it should crash/freeze for the first run. After that, it should run smoothly.
I hope this works for you all. If you have any questions or issues, just reply to this thread. Don't forget to give me a thanks!
Note: Do not use the built-in wifi hotspot toggle switch, it will crash. Download an app from the market to toggle it.
Note: If you cannot access the settings by clicking on the Hotspot notification, do this: settings>more networks>mobile hotspot.
Note: I am running ME7 with 4.2.2 JellyBean and stock rom.

If you are trying to run the hotspot from the built it button, it will crash. Use an external app for your hotspot. I use "1-click tether" at the moment. I'm going to do some more looking right now.

FoxFi uses your data plan, so if you don't have unlimited data it will cost you a lot of money. The technique I'm using prevents the phone from checking if you have an active subscription or not. Also, FoxFi limits how long you can use it continuously if you don't purchase the pro version. I used to use FoxFi before i rooted my phone.
On VRUAME7 build hack is not required. Toggle the built-in Wifi hotspot on and as soon as the subscription check message comes up just press the home button and it will go in the background but you will be able to still use tethering.

IF you are correct, you still have to deal with the message every time you want to tether. Also, since you have to hit the home button, if you want to change your setting or anything then you have to go back into the app and deal with the message again. This just makes it easier. Your idea just avoids the issue, mine fixes it. I wasn't trying to be rude or anything. Have a good day!

4.3 Update and Tethering

So now that 4.3 is available for Verizon I was curious if the typical tethering apps/widgets for us non-rooted folk still work? The tethering widget has been my go too and have become accustomed to just hitting the home button when getting the nag screen about needing to subscribe to the service. I read on the FoxFi app description on the playstore that it "does" support the 4.3 update for Verizon. Can anyone confirm if either of these work since the update?

Yes if you subscribe to tethering through said provider. This wasn't the question I asked.

FoxFi definitely works but you need to set a PIN/Pattern on the device. If you do the nolockscreen option it doesn't start the connection.
Still on 4.2.2. It's weird that I don't get the nag screen at all if I tap on the wifi tether widget and I don't subscribe to the plan. It just works.

That is actually what I get plus you don't see the red hotspot symbol at the top. The blue foxfi icon is still showing though.
Meanwhile I guess I will use the lock screen method until we get root.
PDAnet and Easytether both work but obviously they USB-based tethering rather than Hotspot apps.
I finally figured out how to get framework-res.apk decompiled, my goodness I don't know if it was because were now on api 18, or because Im on linux but I got it decompiled im looking into the tether prospects now.

nolockscreen hash only if you want to avoid setting a PIN. But looks like that hash doesn't even work and you have a PIN anyways so no need for it.

Hey, I think I've worked out the mod for a tether unlock (usb, wifi hotspot, and bluetooth). If anyone wants to test let me know. I can make a flashable zip or a script that will rename the old framework, copy the new framework, rename the old framework to back, set the permissions on the framework and finally reboot. I've seen it mentioned in a couple of threads, but haven't found a definitive answer or solution yet. Has anyone managed to get a working hotspot hack up and running to bypass the T-Mobile upsell page? The existing method of using SQLite Editor to edit settings.db doesn't seem to work for me. I love this phone, but really miss my hotspot from the Note 3.
Any help is certainly appreciated.

I tried (using out of the box settings) but didn't even see a connection pop up on devices scanning for networks when turning hotspot on. Are there settings that I need to be using other than the default?

Yeah I think there alternate settings you need to use. I had to setup other ones for the s4.
I haven't rooted my s5 yet so I can't test and let you know.

I'm trying to make APN changes the Wifi Tether app says need to be made but the T-Mobile network is greed out in the settings. Is their a way to fix that?
My apn settings are gray also. I tried adding a new apn with correct settings but my phone switches back to original apn automatically.

ok, I bought the app and configured it according to the instructions and I was able to connect the iPad. The performance is horrible. When I use the native T-Mobile Tethering everything loads fast with no buffering. Could there be something I;ve done wrong? What are your S5 settings?
How were you able to change the APN Settings?

Settings I used for the app are:
For Samsung Galaxy S5 using this config
Interface wlan0
Method 3 - HostApd
Encryption wpa2-psk
Channel 1
Drivers nl80211
"HostApd Patch" <- UNCHECKED
"No Firmware Reload" <- UNCHECKED
How to make your APN editable, follow step 3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2057344
FOR T-MOBILE USERS AND NEXUS 5
Need to change your APN, simply navigate to Settings > More > Mobile networks > Access Point Names. Select your T-Mobile APN, and scroll to APN protocol. Change this to IPv4, and then save your APN

hmm. That seems to be what I need but the Tutorial makes the assumption that I have the ability to navigate to the proper system files and edit them. I tried and using windows explorer, I cannot find the system folder. If you could, would you make a Noob Guide TuT so that us Non-Devs could have WiFi Tethering? I know that implies work for you and I hate it when that happens to me, so maybe you could point to a beginners guide to get started?

First your phone needs to be rooted, then you need to have ES File Explorer installed on your phone.
7. Up top tap / that should take you to the root of the phone,
Now you should be able to follow the instructions from the previous link i sent you to Jovy's TuT. Make sure to also edit the one above the Tethering APN and enable it to be editable.
When you click on the file it opens it up in read only, you have to hit the menu in the top right corner to edit the file.
Be very careful and only change what he tells you to change. I would make a back up of the file and place it somewhere you know you can find it.
Once you have enabled the APN and saved the file restart your phone. Once you are restarted navigate to where the APN's are. System Settings, More Networks, Mobile Networks, Access Point Names. Once you are there click on the top right corner and tap Reset to Default. That should pull down the new settings so you can edit your APN settings.
Then follow these instructions.
Need to change your APN, simply navigate to Settings > More > Mobile networks > Access Point Names. Select your T-Mobile APN, and scroll to APN protocol. Change this to IPv4, and then save your APN
I think that covers everything that I did.
wifi tether router working
Ok so I got it working. I folloed Jovys instructions from step 3. Instead of changing to epic.t-mobile.com change it to fast.t-mobile.com then 5 lines up where it says ipv6 change it to ipv4. Then go to apn settings and reset to default.
