[Q] CSC Code and network - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hope this is not a noob question, but i just got a Galaxy S3 from Luxembourg with the CSC Code LUX. If i change it to TPH (Portugal) will that have any influence on the network signal? Because i noticed that i have much less signal with this mobile then with the previous one i had (Samsung Galaxy Note N-7000)

Firmware doesn't play any part in signal strength, the modem and ril does. Try changing modem.

Thanks for the help! Is or are there any specific modems for Portugal or can i install any of my choice?

Yes install any of choice for the model of phone you have. Don't go flashing a modem for a Sony if you have a Sammy. Also
Stock firmware=modern and ril or just modem.
Custom roms=only modem. Never ril. Will probably break calls/Tex's if you do.

CM9 with i9100T modem no internet

So i flashed a i9100T modem on my phone with CM9 latest nightly(i know, i know, its a nightly rom) with this modem: I9100TDUKJ1.
I have no internet connection on CM9 but when i install Miui V4 SGS2 2.3.19, i get internet connection. This is weird.
I bought the phone from bell and now im overseas in Thailand and i need to use the internet.
Im on CM9 latest nightly and the internet wont work. Im thinking of flashing a i9100T modem! Please help! Thank you!
I tried KI3, KI4 and all the new ICS Modems and non works. So im turning to the i9100T variant since the 850mhz band in these modem works better.
Some modems are better for certain networks/carriers, so you can definitely flash the i9100T modem in your i9100M. If you are not happy with the network performance, you can always go back to your original modem - there is a huge collection of modems in xda. It will not kill your phone, I personally use different branded modem in sgs2 phone.
fixed
seems like apn settings was wrong.

[Q] Modem doubt

Coz many Rom Devs are giving an option to flash different modem. i just want to know whether its affecting the signal usage and battery consumption.
thank You in advance.

see this thread, i think DDDLJ1 would be best for indian s3 as it would be optimized for indian networks

Bad signal

I got the SIII i9300 and I upgraded it recently to 4.1.2. I don't know if it's from the upgrade or from my new carrier but I got some horrible signal (including indoors). It will show H and full bars, but when I try to call out the bars drop, it goes from H ro G and even a lost signal. So I don't know if its a ROM issue (it was a rooted stock BTW) or the radio needs a update.
Any thoughts? The provider is Play in PL.

Maybe incorrect RIL?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
OK. Found a link here with a 4.1.2 PL unbranded RIL.
XXELKC
Android:4.1.2
Date: 30/11/2012
Carrier-Country-Region: Unbranded - Poland - Europe
How do I install it?
Currently running:
GT-I9300
4.1.2
baseband:I9300DXELK1
build: JZO54K.I9300XXEMA2
Use Odin
OK.
Ill give that a try. It seems my ROM is a SG version :d'oh:
If it doesn't work I'll reflash my ROM with the PL unbranded which has the correct RIL.

Theres an app called getril where you can auto-match modem & RIL or just check if they are compatible if you dont have root.
I don't know where you live but I can recommend you to try out the XXELLA baseband / modem - simply the most battery and signal reception friendly baseband for the Samsung Galaxy S3. Do not forget downloading and installing correct RIL thru getril-app from Google Play for stable signal reception..

[Q] What's modem will be best for SHW-250s

Welcome guys I have problem with SHW-250s :/ I haven't got any signal in my area but i9100 works normally. Both of these have the same modem (XXMS4, yes 250s is debranded to i9100). What modem will give me a similiar to i9100 signal strength? My network is Play, Poland. I've tried many of modems but any works good :/

I am running Paranoid Android 4.6 Beta5 which is on Android 4.4.4. I still have the Samsung firmware modem I9300XXUGNA8 that had my international i9300 when I bought it, so when it was still on Android 4.3 or older, and my mobile network signal is working normally. Therefore I guess that your modem doesn't need to match the Android version you’re running. That is what I also understand by this quote from this thread:

“COMPATIBILITY:
*Modems do not need to be matched up with firmware like it's done with ROMs and Kernels. For example, a KI4 modem can be used with a KL1 ROM and the other way round. The only thing you need to pay attention to is what model your SGS2 is. 9100 and 9100 modems are compatible across both models. However, 9100 model and US variants are not cross compatible since the devices are designed to work on different bands.”

I am actually also looking into modems these days, I’m trying to see if there are custom modems that might be more efficient in term of mobile network reception speed and battery drain than the firmware modem I now have.

I ended up flashing with Odin the modem from the last firmware on sammobile for my country and carrier, but my baseband version in "about phone" didn't change so I guess that I already had it. I didn't find a better candidate than that, so that's the only one I tried.
There are the main threads I found about modems:
