[Q] Samsung Camera App on a custom rom??? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I'm rooting my Verizon Galaxy S4 (16g) with Cyanogenmod but only thing that stops me right now is the camera. The camera on the phone works great with Samsung's camera software. But since I'm moving on from Touchwiz to Cyanogenmod, I'm curious if there is any way to keep the Samsung's camera app on a custom rom. Thank you.

Unfortunately the Samsung Camera App requires the Touchwiz framework. It doesn't work on AOSP roms. You can try the Eclipse rom. It has that AOSP look and feel but is touchwiz based so it has the Samsung Camera app on it. The dialer, settings, contacts, and notification panels are all AOSP.

You can only use it on a TW rom. It hooks into proprietary TW framework that we can't get source code for to port to AOSP.
If you use a GPE rom, such as the one by Danvdh, it's a little different. Since these are built on the GPE device base they're still AOSP roms but they use Samsung drivers for the camera. It's still as not as good as the full TW camera, but with a third party app (Google's camera still sucks) it's the best camera experience you'll get on AOSP on this phone.

All very true.. Have you used that Lenovo Super Camera??? I thougt it was really cool, comparable to the Wiz Camera, just depending on which version you found it either required all sorts of permissions/libraries . if we could scrounge up just an easy to install... No permissions Lenovo that'd be cool

Yeah I tried it right when it got pulled from that Intel phone Lenovo came out with, I've never been much of a camera aficionado though. I thought the gallery app was really cool but a lot of Chinese all over the place lol.

4.2 camera flash works on aosp.

Is there a way to write script or build prop to get the flash of the 4.2 camera working on a custom tw rom? Ive read, searched and tried different permissions for cameras but the 4.2 camera only seems to work on 4.2 aosp custom roms which in turn you lose tw functionality. Amy help or suggestions?

If I understand correctly, you're asking how to use flash without crashing under the 4.2 AOSP camera app, while using a TouchWiz ROM...
Why? The TouchWiz camera app is tailor suited for this very device and thus provides the absolute best results and control over the camera. Being on a TouchWiz ROM means you should absolutely only use the TouchWiz camera app, unless you need to do a Photosphere in which case you use the AOSP one.

I enjoy the simple interface on the 4.2 and it seems that it should be fixable as it is same device. As in... it works with flash correctly if using aosp rom...but with tw rom with aosp mods. The camera fc's if using flash..i was just seeking a possibility to fix this, i guess if it was that easy it would already be baked in?

Pretty much. I have been waiting for this since the 4.2 camera came out and there hasn't been a fix. Some people have no issue whatsoever using it with flash but it's somewhat rare on TW roms. If it was an easy fix you can be sure it would have already been baked in.

[Q] Stock camera vs. Custom ROM camera

I just recently got my SII and im fairly new to flashing roms. I rhad SUpernexus for a week or so and one thing that i noticed is that the camera on that rom is not on par with the stock camera of s2 jb 4.1.2. is this issue the same for all roms/stock roms? Are stock rom cameras always better than custom roms? I know there are a lot of market camera apps but i think all they do is enhance your picture using effects. It doesn't improve your picture clarity, reduce noise, etc. like the stock rom camera. That's the reason I'm sticking with stock rom despite the awful appearance of touchwiz. I usually do low light shots indoors but custom roms perform so bad on low light, sometimes in daylight also.
The camera is due to Samsung not releasing source code I think. If you want stock camera but hate touch wiz try chameleon rom

Not only is it comparable, but it is exactly the same. The camera is the actual Sammy camera as the ROM is based on the stock framework. Try the ROM, its fantastic :good:

Battery life is the same as stock, but its heavily varied according to what apps you use, if you have sync on, wifi, data etc etc. It *should* be a bit better (but we are talking marginal, if not fractions) as the ROM does not include the bloat that completely stock Samsung ones do (like Samsung maps services, hubs etc)
It all comes down to kernel really, I use Apolo 4.7 and while I only see 3hrs screen on time and almost 2 days standby until flat, It is pretty good for me! Edit: with WiFi and sync always on
Stock PhilZ is also great, clean and smooth!

Wow great. 3 hours screen time with heavy use like games or just texting? Hey can you suggest a good kernel. Is siyah of any good or the stock kernel is already good paired with the chameleon?

[Q] Fastest ROM

Introduction:
Hi everyone! I'm currently running Chip v1.5 with Entropy's kernel on my US YP-G70. It's great, but I'm wondering if there is a faster ROM to use (eg: less CPU use and less resource-consuming background processes). JoyOS seems great but I'm wary of the slow wireless connecting and iOS theme.
What I'm Looking for (MUST):
- fully working camera (taking photos and videos, and not just on fastburst)
- working wi-fi and bluetooth
- GPS compatibility with Gapps (apparently some ROMS - forgot which specifically - have GPS issues)
- Built-in non-stock launcher (as in the stock launcher is removed and some other launcher is installed as the only and default launcher)
- light (low RAM usage, like LewaOS claims 200 MB+ free)
- fast
It Would Be Nice to Have...
- customizable lockscreen built-in (or an option to disable the lockscreen so I can use WidgetLockscreen without excess processes)
- overclocking (don't worry - I won't go crazy and set it above 1.2-ish)
- Samsung bloatware removed
Closing Statement:
Please comment below to suggest me some ROMs that satisfy the above conditions. With the requirement of a working camera and bluetooth, I'm probably looking for a Stock/GB-based ROM. On a last note, I know you devs out there put a lot of work into your ROMs, so I hope I'm not coming off as unappreciative.

Actually, I would love to use CM 10.1 with Sultan kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252851) to get that wonderful 441MB RAM but people keep saying that neither bluetooth nor the camera works. Perhaps the tweaks you mentioned deal with those? Btw thanks, TheKryptonite, for helping me out again.

Bluetooth works and both cameras work (albeit you can only take pictures with the rear camera using FastBurst). There is also a video fix zip file floating around that will give you video recording functionality.
I wouldn't really call it working when you can take 800x480 "pictures" but always something. 3mpx quality was awfuk too. I have to try that fastburst

It still works, but the pictures with the rear cam just won't be as good quality. Some other devs and I are working on it though

Why causes it to be in poor quality?

Because capturing pictures doesn't work, only preview does. So they take screenshots using fast burst. But image previews are bad quality. So they're trying to fix the camera

as far the the best performing rom u really should stick with stock based roms. that just my advice if you were to update u must realize that you must sacafice a few features but your than also get a ton of new minor ones back i guess it just depends on your own preference.
I'm not looking for jb roms in particular, so gb-in fact, any-roms are fine with me, given they satisfy the criteria, of course

TW camera on CM 10.1

Is there a CM ROM being developed that employs the TW camera goodness? Or is there a way to install TW camera to a CM/AOSP ROM?

I would also love to know this.
Their was a thread ... (I can't find it where tho) .. but someone manage to get TW camera to work on AOSP ROMs but not all features work yet ...
Sent from my SGH-M919
Was it on XDA? I searched up and down. Seems like you would be able to do it from a Titanium backup. Or is there issues with not using TW? I love CM but hat to lose all the goodness of TW...
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
There's a flashable zip to put TW apps on the GE rom but the camera isn't included. I've tried TiBu to load the camera to it but that's a no-go. As far as I know, only the GE rom will allow TW apps (since it's AOSP with TW framework) but no one had got the camera working yet. TW apps wont work on CM and other AOSP roms.

If I want to port some applications of the system for more rom, what i do?
For example, if i want port camera of official ROM for a miui ROM,what i do?
Thanks
Yeah you would have to decompile the apk and doo some magic and recompile it again i dont think a sense camera will work on a miui rom use a app from play store instead

If you want the best camera for the amaze then you need to run a sense based ROM. All of the "magic" that allows us to fully utilize the features of our cameras, such as ISO adjustment and continuous autofocus are tied into sense. Every other camera whether it's a standalone or included in another ROM lacks these features as they are proprietary to HTC. So you can experiment trying any camera you like, but unless you're running a sense ROM you have to accept a less capable camera app than the stock one. I hope this clarifies things.
