[MOD][S5] Volume Boost [G900F] Multi TW / CM / Lollipop - Galaxy S 5 Themes and Apps

S5 Volume Boost ¸¸♬·¯·♩¸¸♪·¯·♫
.v1 Lite
All sounds boosted by 4, I choose to increase by only 4 as I felt this gave a great boost to the stock level without sound distortion.
from feedback, this is the best/perfect level of sound
.v2 Medium
All sounds boosted by 5, Medium Level sound increase. personally untested due lite is best for me.
.v3 Extra Loud
All sounds boosted by 6, Extra Loud Level sound increase. personally untested, could cause a crackle sound when music, ringtone etc is
played.
.v4 Lite + Headphone Increase
Same as Lite, apart the headphone volume is increased slightly more, tested and is ok for a boost to your tunes
v5 g900f 4.4.2 Headphone only increase http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54862671&postcount=243
v5 g900f Lollipop http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58039332&postcount=420
It would be a good idea to do a Nandroid backup or a backup of your mixer_path.xml file in /system/etc before hand.
From feedback, I believe versions 1 to 4 might work on other variants like the Sprint, T-mobile etc. But please Backup before testing.
If you have a variant other than the G900F and want a 100% working boost I need your mixer_paths.xml from your device.
Any problems please reply, and flash the G900F restore to get back to stock level
Easy flash guide:
Drop .zip onto internal or ext storage
and flash with a custom recovery.
Hope you like, and any questions please ask
Update 9/12/2014:
Added TW Lollipop for g900f
Added CM12/ASOP Lollipop for g900f
Added TW for g901f
All are v4 boosts
These do NOT work on the G900H, other variants use with caution

Please leave feedback if its too loud or not loud enough.
Took me a while to find the correct file to modify as its changed since the s4. Also this is my first time doing such thing to release to XDA
So Please flash at own risk. I have tested this on my ROOTED G900F and works great. I don't see why it wouldn't work on other S5 models.

Downloading and and will test. I find so far the other mods over on the TMobile S5 XDA site seem to distort. They have three mods...lite...medium...loud and even the lite version seems to add quite a bit of distortion.
NICE!!!!. Just the right amount, IMHO. No more distortion when I max the volume. Plus I have Viper4 FX onboard running nicely. You have to upgrade to the latest 2.3.3.0 to have it work correctly. This is on my G900T.

you looking for feedback so I come to help , running this on my rogers G900W
file flashed and works without a hitch.
my feeback as requested from OP It could use more boost.
I used to run this sound booster on my s4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293133
the file I used and ran that was perfect is
VOLUME BOOSTING SOUND [MODERATE]
DOWNLOAD LINK - http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23252070760972943
tourchwiz
the levels is this were great .
maybe a thought you could have a couple different versions for users to try out as they have in that thread as well .
again great job on the boost and it will be my daily driver for now , hoping you can release another with a bit more boost to it for speaker volume

when you say increase by 4 you is that you increase the values 4 up in mixer_paths.xml like example if the speaker digital volume was 84 you increased to 88?

Just tested it and you're right my bootsound went and phone lagged bad!! I've re-flashed v1 from 1st page and its fixed the phone.
I deleted the v2 attachment also from last post, Think the problem is I may have max'd out one of the sound volumes beyond its limits, causing total lag.
will look into it and find what ones I can turn up safely, thanks for reporting it to me before many people had same problem!

Ok found the problem will release a new one, but I really don't think it's a good idea going too loud, as you said the s5 speaker tends to crackle at too high volume boost.

Okay I've increased the main speaker and ear speaker by 6. I still think v1 on main post is perfect level but if you want louder.. then here it is.
EDIT: tested v2_fix and I still prefer v1. the v2 makes my ring tone crackle slightly

Audio Mod for the Nexus!! [Kernel Edit Instructions]

(This was not found or created by me. All credits go to Qualcomm (CodeAurora) and Cyanogen.)
Thought i may as well post this as it has not been posted yet
This is essentially a kernel modification that tweaks the audio settings "for optimal loudness and achieve 5 steps of 3db each."
Hopefully cyanogen will incorporate this into his next kernel build, but if you want it now, you can build your own version of his kernel with these modifications - http://github.com/cyanogen/cm-kernel/commit/f044b1069c4d853e535fce2b800a0af4947a22f7#L0R46
Also, it should be noted that those values are the 'optimal' volume settings. You could make it a hell of a lot louder if you want, the values are pretty easy to understand!
You will need to build your own kernel though, which is kindly explained by cyanogen here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/How_to_build_a_kernel_port
Mind you, that's for a donut kernel, so it will need to be amended.
enjoy
edit: it seems Cyanogen's done the work for you! Here's a pre-made version - testing directory.
It may be worthwhile to note that Cyanogen has already built a kernel with this mod, it can be found in his testing directory.
Though, myself, I can't imagine why anyone wants it to be louder... I mean, with my headphones on, I can't physically stand the volume above around 80% (in fact my music profile defaults to 70% which is plenty for almost all my music - save a few live recordings that require the push to 80%).

Thanks for that, i'll add it to the OP.
I think most people have really only been complaining about the main loudspeaker volume, rather than the headset volume.

Gotcha, I might think the loudspeaker is a little weak as well, but I just increased the volume on my ringtones, and voila. Though, it is annoyingly soft for sharing Youtube videos with people... maybe this ain't such a bad idea..
Since I can just set my volume a little lower when I put my bigassed headphones on.

Yeah, I actually value my hearing.. And for the majority of my music 70% is more than enough, even though I work around loud machinery. I also have nice headphones though, and that makes a world of difference.

Agreed!!
Regardless, it's nice to have the option there. I just use this mod with my volume at 50% instead of 70% and if a certain album hasn't been normalized properly, I have that headroom.
Thank you so much for this hack. I've been posting in the other Audio Hack thread and it's great to see some progress for the Nexus One.
Seriously. Thank you!!

I installed it, but I just didn't really notice much of a difference. I don't know if it makes a difference if you're using headphones or what not but just listening to music thorugh the phone, I just didn't notice a lot of difference.
Speaking of which, a student of mine left his Beats headphones on my desk. So I decided to check them out while at the gym. They were pretty cool...not enough midrange and i didn't think the highs were high enough. Then I asked how much he paid for them
OMG! Really?! I thought the Bose headset I checked out sounded a lot better and were less than half the price.

You should install mean rom 4.2 and then flash dodova 5.4 kernel.. It provides the best balance of performance, stability and battery life. There also weren't any issues with volume on my end. Its so good that even tho ive upgraded to Mean ICS I have a nandroid of that exact setup

Flash 4.3 then flash Dodova's updated 5.4 or 5.5-test kernel separate. The 5.3 kernel that installs with 4.3 gives a lot of people reboots.
4.2 and 5.4 test was awesome for me work great till I switch to mean Rom ics v0.91 all good just minor issue .
it's all good, battery life is awesome!!!!.... now im looking for a rom that is aosp which one do you guys think is best? with large battery duration and good performance duration... Thanks in advance
every time the phone sits so screen off initializes , apparently the phone completely shuts down at some point ..
a quick tap of the power button to activate display and phones boots to htc logo
any suggestions please I already tried turning fast boot back on and that didn't help at all
edit : running meanROM 4.2 - it did it with .2 kernel and still with .4
I have no idea, I get the same thing, apparently that is a bug they haven't fixed. At least my phone reboots once a day tops with the kernel... Let's ser if we can find out!

i hope so and if it's a bug it has to be only a very few people using meanrom that encountered it ..
I dont mean to hijack your thread but this is directly related to meanrom 4.3 and headphones. Have you noticed when using music apps if you plug in a set of headphones it causes the fast forward/skip option to be pressed repeatedly? Im kind of wondering if the headphone jack for our phones has the abilities to use a set of headphones with a fastforword/skip button on them and perhaps its just my jack thats deffective. Just curious if youve ever noticed something similar with your phone.

There is a fork of Mean Rom in the CDMA development forum that removes sense as much as possible. I forget what it's called. On a pure aosp Rom, some stuff is broken so I suggest a desensified Rom instead.

[Q] Request: Low sound fix!

Hey guys/girls.
I am very happy with SGS2. But there is a small problem...
I am a audiophile/basshead, and I usually use my laptop for music. But like many other, I do listen music on my phone as well.
The problem is, is that the volume is a bit low. I have tried a few apps and amplifiers, but that just destroys the quality.
Does anyone know how to increase the volume without losing (much or very noticeable) audio quality?
I am using the unofficial builds from SlimBean (Android 4.3.1) and (soon) the Pound ROM as a secundairy ROM.
I also use DorimanX 9.43v22 (beta) kernel.
If anyone has a solution or a nice MOD to fix this, I would love to learn about it!
Thanks in advance guys/girls!
Kind regards,
Samuel de Wit
Use the kernel-side volume increases in Dorimanx/Siyah/etc (via STweaks). That's as good as the volume fixes get on the I9100.
ViPER4Android is an excellent sound mod......
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223

These things are intentionally limited so people don't damage their hearing so there isn't much that can be done beyond what you have tried. To go louder would involve an external amplifier.
You call yourself an Audiophile but I don't really think you are, you just like it loud. This phone is know to have fairly ordinary sound output, read a review about it.

I have been testing a lot of mods to get more output level ,editing a file from Android system folder. Now i have louder sound,
but the real problem of the sound output, its a kernel problema.
I found some comunities specialized with sound quality portable devices, and all say the same; the s4 (all models) its a great phone but a **** player ...
they said that the sound have a problem mainly with the low band frequencies., impedance problems,
at practical purposes, you can hear that the audio is not enough `"powerfull" .
Try to listen carefully one of your favorite songs, with your S4 and your Mac, or your pc... (with a good headphones), the sound of the kicks will be less stronger, with less punch...
some people say that the s4 have a great amplifier, but its controlled with a bad software, who manage the sound digitally when should be analogically.
I think that the only way to fix this audio quality is editing the kernel.
i dont know what parameters use the user "Super Mercurio" to create Voodoo Audio, but... it Works and the audio of the S, S2 and S3 Works correctly with it like an iPhone (iPhone, because i dont know why but allways have a great balance between software and hardware).
Siyah Kernel Works good in the s3 model with audio because include Voodoo Audio too. And Siyah is developed by the user Gokhanmoral.
Im trying the imposible to fix this problem but i dont know really what to do...
Do you think that could be something to do , to fix this audio problem with CM (or editing the stock kernel)??
here is one post of audiophiles users talking technically about it :

thanks
I think you wrote in the totally wrong thread about this, since this mainly about the voltage problems between the I9506 and N9005 and
I doubt that anyone of us think about the sound quality right now but more about the line "If I test it will it melt my screen?" kind of concern.
I know there are some really awesome audio mods for HTC but since I don't own an Iphone nor will I ever I think this is way way wrong
forum.

Besides, the sound in an ajfon is nothing compared to the HD-pack for HTC.

Oh, sorry, you're right Absolon, this not the correct thread
however, I'm trying to fix a distortion problem of the ample and DAC , not to boost the sound with eq to get a louder bass, etc…
thanks

No worries. I never used my phone as a walkman. Ever. My battery can't handle 467 installed programs and then playing music at the
same time
But really, you can't have an Iphone as a reference for sound! Come on! It's not THAT good.
If you really want a reference, go to a audio-shop and listen to some Krell stuff. Then everything sounds bad
And finally, my experience tells me that it's waaay much about what ear-peaces you have. I had, until I of course misplaced them some
really nice ones that cost like an iPod back then. But I'm much for bass. My EQ at home is a V because I hear too well on the midrange
and being this old fart I can still pick up really high freqs. But then I listen mostly to classical music and that has to be flac even if I know
that a CD is not catching it all. That is why my friend went over to real vinyl and radio tubes to get "that" sound. But I rather buy more
disk to my computer(s)

I didnt read your life story... but I think it would be great to have some development for our i9506.

My "life story" was more for the people wondering where I was. Now they know.
But as I wrote in another post today (somewhere here) I doubt that it's worth it, if someone can't pitch in and do the real work we have to do,
because there is not many keyparts missing between the two phones.
Hi absolon I couldn't read all you wrote but actually I've got a team working on porting cm 11 to the i9506, development hasn't started yet , I'm still recruiting one more dev , if you wanna be in just tell me , your knowledge will be useful for the development .

I need to get a dmesg (besides the files) from a real v4.3 Knoxed I9506!
Code:
dmesg > /storage/emulated/0/I9506_v4.3_knox_1.txt
Here the problem is that you can't do it as a normal user but has to be root but I think this should work:
Code:
[B]Make sure all is granted and fine [/B]
adb shell
su -
[B][I](grant it in the phone)[/I][/B]
[B]Reboot[/B]
adb shell "su -c dmesg > /storage/emulated/0/I9506_v4.3_knox_1.txt"
[B]or if that doesn't work[/B]
[B][U]adb shell
su -
dmesg > /storage/emulated/0/I9506_v4.3_knox_1.txt[/U][/B]
Want to cry more? Get me that 4.3! (And a copy of Hawkies)

Hi
Okay, just rooted my phone to get you that dmesg thing.
The command that i underlined is the one I used, and it worked fine.
(I can not help you with Hawkies)

Why are I missing the first from my log?

I assume you did grant su in your phone first?
Yes, my bad, replace " with '
Code:
This should be the general syntax: su -c 'command1; command2; .... ; commandN'
The reason why you get it so late is because you didn't catch it fast enough and the ring buffer got full and threw away the first.
The only success I got was with that su command. It was under Linux. Never tried it in Windoze.
It takes some practice so don't be sad. I think that was my 3rd time I managed to catch it fast enough

I can´t get the multi command thing to work on windows.
But here is one from 5.980385sec

Yes a 4.3 knoxed i9506.
The best one yet is with a script manager set to run at boot. It takes at while for my windows 7 to be able to talk to my phone after reboot.
I even tried to see if I could resize the ring buffer to by me more time. But no luck.
if you see my text files size they are smaller then yours, 4.4 may have a larger buffer?

Maybe @DeHAWK could compile a kernel with a 256kb ring buffer since he has a working env?
Try one with a real ext4 for speed as well
