[Q] Insufficient storage available - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
This is my first post here. I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace 5830i and today I bought a new SD card because the old one was crap. I had this problem before, I have it now. When I try to download an application from the Android Market, there is always this error ''There is unsufficient storage available''. I checked and I had 23 free MB of Device memory and 1.8 GB free on my SD card. I read a lot of articles about this problem and tried many ''solutions'' and nothing fixed it. I will be really, really thankful if anyone can help me fix this. Cheers :good:

You can always use scripts to increase the memory like CronMod Unofficial. But the problem with scripts is that it lags after you install some apps. This is because your ext partition is mounted as the /data mount point and SD Card read /write operations are slower than internal memory read/ write operations. So I suggest you use Link2SD Extreme which lags less compared to other scripts. Link2SD places the app link locations in the internal memory and corresponding data in the ext partition. Since the links are in the internal memory, it will be much faster. All you need is a rooted phone, rom with init.d support (all custom roms have one) and ext partition on SD Card (Go to CWM> Advanced> Partition SD Card> Size (1GB)> Swap(0MB) wait for "Partitioning Done!" message). Make sure to do the setup right. If you created the ext partition using CWM, choose ext3 as the partition type from Link2SD pop-up. Only if that doesn't work go with ext2 or then ext4. Here is the link,
Link2SD Extreme
Try to implement this is a newly flashed rom with newly created ext partition. Hope I Helped

Re-partioning

Sorted it out the hard way - repartitioned with FAT and lost all my apps. Installed them quickly enough with Applanet App Market.

Hello XDA. A few months ago I partitioned my 2GB SD-card to use with a custom made 2.1 ROM I used to have and I have not changed this partitioning ever since, I've been using it with MiniCM and it works alright.
My question is: Could I or could I not partition it back to FAT so I don't have any ext without problems? Or do I need to reinstall MiniCM if I installed it with an ext partition?

One thing you need to check is if you have chosen 'internal memory' as the place to download applications that you may have downloaded/installed after installing CM1.In that case, choose the 'move to phone' option so that you don't have any apps stored on your ext partition. As long as you have stored apps either in the phone or external which is the FAT partition, there will be no problem at all in getting rid of the partition.Personally,I have never liked any of these ext partitions because I think they slow down the apps stored on them!
...do press the thanks button if this helps...........
Please clearly state which ROM are you going to flash, and the current partition details, partition(s) and size, filesystem ;-)
what is the ext2/ext3 partitions being used for ? are they only for setup new roms or for use while running the device?
i havent noticed any change with or without ext3 partition beside the low space left on the 2gb memory card...

ext partitions are required to install apps2sd or link2sd so that you can store downloaded applications there instead of clogging your phone memory. These are not required if your OS is Froyo and higher since there is a native apps2sd which helps you move applications to the main FAT portion off the sd card.

[Q] Link2SD installed but still get Low Internal Memory??

New here so please tell me if this is in the wrong forum.
I have a Acer Liquid Metal on 2.3.6. I have a custom ROM T&L. It came preinstalled with Link2SD. I like to try lots of apps and this problem seems to be haunting me. I reset my phone on the 26th Dec as it was so annoying. I think I have set up Link2SD correctly. I have a 4gb SD with 1gb as ext2. Please see the screen shots attached.
If I have Link2SD, why do I still have a problem with low internal storage?? I have had to remove some app's but the internal storage always gets lower.
Have I set Link2SD up correctly? How can I resolve this problem?
If you need anything further please let me know.
Thanks,
Matt
I have the same problem
Same issue no one help me... even if i link all my apps still internal memory get low....
Even with Link2SD, a part of apps stay on the main RAM, I think there is no solution to that

Hey all of you are getting confuse, this is the solution and it was already mention but maybe you get confuse... Using link2sd...link all your apps as normal, probably after a couple installations you will get low memory, but how is that possible... well..
Just download ANDROID TERMINAL EMULATOR from Market and install it(you must be ROOTED to use it).
Now just TYPE in Terminal:
su
a2sd cachesdreset
After this your device will reboot and you will get a lot of space on your phone... probably link2sd should add this feature on new version but IF not this will works ( i believe that some info stay on phone and link2sd can't see it but phone will keep showing it even if that is garbage or already move to the 2nd partition on your phone just do does command and that is... after that you will love link2sd and will never go back or use app2sd....
Tested By Me... On my Galaxy Ace

I have the same problem. Is it solved???
Hi Guys,
I own Samsung Galaxy Y Duos S6102. Its internal storage is approximately 180Mb. I have rooted the phone and increased my storage to 1Gb using Link2SD.
Now, i have installed around 25 apps and i link them all using Create Link and checking on all 3 checkboxes. Still, my internal storage is getting low. Now i cannot install any apps as the internal storage has become less than 25Mb
When i see the storage info from Link2SD it shows 650Mb free out of the 1Gb partition that i created.
I tried the solution posted above but could not do it. If it helps please be more descriptive
Thank You

an easy way to gain at least 40 mb of internal storage on this phone:
open dialler, dial *#9900#
and then select 'copy to sd card'
results vary but it did help me to regain about 40 mb the first time i tried it
Use ram booster as well as delete all the cache and try to install mount2sd better than link to sd I hope it will help you

You need to install link2sd plus, which enables app and data files to be moved to sdcad

[GUIDE] Increase Internal Storage! SD-EXT [NOOB FRIENDLY] [ROOT]

Hello Folks! Did you ever wanted to increase internal storage? Well you came to the right place! Today I will show you the RIGHT way of increasing internal storage and allowing you to install more apps and games!
Note: You will need to be running an custom ROM before attempting to increase storage. Also root and superuser permissions will be needed. This method best works on gingerbread as it is more stable, I have tried it on ICS and JB but they may soft brick your device.
Step 1: Download and install MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition [DO NOT USE THE WINDOWS PARTITION AS IT DOES NOT SUPPORT EXT FORMATS]
Step 2: Plug your device in and make sure its mounted. Open MiniTool Partition Wizard, now you should see your SD card. [Back everything up before continuing]
Step 3: Right click on the SD card and click on "Format". This may take a while.
Step 4: Right click again and wipe the partition. Once that is done, split the partition. If you have a 8GB SD card I recommend you give 900MB for SD-EXT and the rest for SD.
Step 5: Before you apply, make the second partition (sd-ext) EXT 3 format. Do not touch the larger partition. Once your done you can unplug your device from the computer.
It should look like this:
Step 6: Go over to the Play Store and download "Mounts2Sd"
Step 7: Run the application and it should ask for super user rights
Step 8: Hopefully you will be presented with a screen like this.
Step 9: Press the menu button then tap on "Application Settings." Then tap "Install Mounts Script"
Step 10: Once step 9 is complete, tap the wrench icon and select apps and dalvik cache. (best effective way to increase internal storage)
Step 11: Scroll down and find "Driver" tap on that and select "Auto Detect"
Step 12: Restart! [NOTE: Boot may take a little longer than usual] [The speed on boot up now mainly depends on your SD card]
Now you are done! Here it what mine looks like now! So what ever you install, will go into the SD-EXT partition. Dalvik Cache is also now in SD-EXT!
I hope I helped you!
Just wondering...
Hi there, I have a s5830 as well. I installed quite a number of apps in it but the internal storage is almost full. I have found this way of increasing the internal storage on many sites. But my question is, will it really work? I have read comments about this method. Most of the people say it just spoils your sd card. Let me know what you think. Thanks

Isn't this pretty similar to Link2SD?
Wait I'm getting confused. Are these two the similar thing? If so how do you configure it? I installed link2sd and have partitioned my sd card. From here what are the procedures to expand your internal storage? Thx
Thank you friend! Helped me a lot!
About your statement...
Still man even you want it with mount2sd or link2sd still can't fully free up your internal memory coz still left some private apk that cost more on internal even that's been moved with any you named it mount2sd link2sd app2sd or with script and blahx2.... etc still there is no best method that work on freeing memory that also don't forget about statement that more app u can install more that u build cache or dalvik cache even that running front or background that also consumed your RAM issued even after you swap RAM To sd card that's finally broke your SD so That"s the end of it so if you have better solutions could you please send me email to [email protected] Thanks again.... cheers....

These two are similar in that they could make use of the partitioned sector of the sd card (known as the sd-ext) to act as additional "internal storage" for installing apps and works similarly as the phone internal memory. With the additional storage you could install more apps.
The above two are also similar in that they require init.d support and busy box. Most custom ROM normally are init.d supported and stock ROM's init.d support could be tested or added with app as per this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933849
Here are tutorials for Mount2SD and Link2SD.

Samsung Galaxy Ace memory related problem
Dear All,
I have a problem to solve regarding my Samsung Ace S-5830 (with built in 270 MB !!! internal memory) installed on a CM11.
Small description:
SD card partitioned (1st: 5.7 GB FAT32, 2nd: 1.4GB ext2) into the device (all memory: 270 MB, internal: 178MB !!!) I have already installed Link2SD application, linked a few applications (App. cache cleaner, disk usage, Google play services, Total commander) -> SD card
My storage usage status according to Link2SD:
internal (/data) 130/178 MB
SD card (storage/sdcard0: 97% free
SD card 2nd part (/data/sdext2): 90% free
system (/system): 205/206 MB 0% free -> it seems to me it completely full. I think the install script determines the space, I don't know whether it is the proper status
cache(/cache):4/24 Mb 82 %
I have already cleaned caches a few times. When I want to install a 20 MB or so application (i.e Accuweather ) from Google Play than the application downloaded, the install procedure seemingly finished, but at the end of the process the error message:
Can't install app
Insufficient storage available
Which storage insufficient? Where is the app downloading to? Where is the Google play store cache? Is it configurable? How can I solve/improve the situation?
In general devices have remarkable internal memory (at least 1-2GB) instead of Samsung Ace. How can I overcome this disadvantage? Thank you for your valuable support.
KR,
Laszlo.

[Q] miniCM10 w/ link2sd + a2sdgui Trouble

Hi guys,
I have a Sony ericsson X10 mini pro with nAa's Kernel 2.6.32.60-nAa-05 and miniCM10-4.1.0-20130518-NIGHTLY and I also flashed:
gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip,
miniCM7-SEMC_kb.zip and
querty_br.zip
On top of that a internal memory of 192MB and a 16GB SDHC class10 SD card.
Boring story part (with more details and links and stickie just in case I forget something ) :
So far so good until I start installing apps and noticed that with a couple the memory was full. After a little research I found link2SD was the solution,
the SD card I have is more than fit for the job.
But then starter the problems, after I partitioned, with MiniTool,
my SD card as FAT32 (~13GB) and ext-N (2, 3 & 4) (~1GB) as primary none worked (at least for long).
I had some success with Ext-3 but the 2nd time I restarted my phone, Scrips were nowhere to be seen nor any linking of some kind.
Then (after more Googling) I tried both partitions as FAT32 and there it was working cool again.
Well went to download more apps, but memory was full, how so? I added a GB to it!
Found that I would, also, need to use A2SDGUI and it's Scripts (Version 2.7.5.3 Beta 04).
Flashed the scripts and then tried to run A2SDGUI not working pop's this error window:
Exiting A2SDGUI
Could not start for one of these reasons:
Your device is not rooted
A2SD scripts could not be found
No EXT partition found
Click to collapse
Now I'm in trouble because android DOES NOT mount my 2nd partition if it's filesystem is not FAT32
(perhaps this is a scripting problem instead of Filesystem support ? )
And A2SDGUI is no longer being developed/suported.
Bottom line:
I installed link2SD but it only works when my 2nd partition is also FAT32, or else it won't mount,
and the phone internal memory continues to get shorter as I install apps.
Then I installed A2SDGUI and (Flashed) it's Scripts to try to JOIN the internal memory(/data)and SD card's 2nd partition so,
android doesn't give that annoying low memory error message.
I'm having trouble making andoid think that /data is ~1.2GB.
Can someone help me out on this? How can I "make" a "bigger" internal memory?
I searched Google but I couldn't find any GOOD answer to my question.
Shaameless self bump

[Q] KK (Beanstalk): Moving apps to sd card

I'm on Beanstalk 4.4.4 by patch_Adams.
Since I upgraded from a previous built (4.4.2) of the same ROM, I'm not able to move installed apps to SD card or to the media storage. Therefore, I'm limited to the 2 GB partition available as "internal storage". The ROM is great and stable and I like it, but the limitation of the app space is really irritating
I tried the following but no luck:
Link2SD
HandleExternalStorgae (Xposed Module)
SDFix
SwapSD
Changing the App permission of External-SD to rw
Other than that I have no complains with the ROM.
Any Ideas or suggestions would help.
Thank you
I too am having the same problems.

Try Titanium Backup
Yes, I guess you are experiencing the same issue - more space needed on internal memory partition/storage.
There are few people who are trying solve this problem by finding expanding solution of the storage size.
Yes, I also tried all those apps(moving to SD) that you mentioned - NON of them work on KK.
Here is the topic I am still looking for anyone's answer/solutions.
[Q] Change internal memory partition?
I wish someone who have great skills on Android file/partition system could make us some kind of ZIP file to adjust this 2GB partition.
same issue and nothing interesting found around the web... Anyone? Do you have found a solution?
same goes here.. i got 12gb internal and 8gb sd card.. but can only use 2gb of them... i wonder if can move all the app to sd card.. it should be fine
