[Q] S2 Not getting turned on - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone got turned of suddenly while i was on a call and its not getting turned on . I thought it might be the battery and kept it for charging. And tried after 2~3 hours, but still the same. Its not showing any charging animation ( with the battery icon ) while i kept it for charging. I tried to plug nd unplug the phone so that it shows that animation , but it doesnt show up.
I searched in forum and did soft reset and hard reset ( removing battery and hold the ON button for 10 seconds and insert battery again and try). Even that didnt work out.
Does anybody have any idea on what might be wrong?

Try USB JIG?
It will force you to go download mode. Head over here to check out about usb jig. You can make your own self too. If let's say you're able to go to download mode. Then flash stock firmware.

Try to find somebody else with an S2 and see if you can borrow their battery. If your phone starts, then your issue is with the usb port itself........
From your description it's either this or the battery has suddenly failed, battery failures are *extremely* rare.......
New software is NOT NEEDED in either case.....

Also, if you *can* get hold of a second S2, see if your battery charges in that one......that would help to confirm or rule out any problems with the battery.......

Viewpad 7 wont boot, power button flashing red

Hello!
I purchased this device some time ago and did not modify it in anyway (no rooting/flashing etc), just a stock device. After leaving it just laying around for about a month I tried to turn it on again and nothing happened. Connecting it to USB or wall charger just makes the power button red led blink intermediately.
Ive tried:
Reset button
Hard reset (vol up+vol down+power button)
Leaving it to charge overnight from the wall charger
Leaving it to charge overnight from USB
Singing to it
Specifics:
Stock firmware
Viewsonic VPAD7
Model#: VS13761
Any help would be appreciated (even as mundane as saying "its hardware is fried") etc, just want some clarify on what happened if their is no way to fix it.
Thank you in advance
Same problem
Even My Vpad 7 is having the same problem.
Can anyone shed light to the above problem?

Let's start with here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1015005 - post #6
Can you hold the "Volumn" Down button while pressing the Power button to get into FTM mode (diagnostic screen) - make a note of the basic information it displayed.
To exit/reset - you might need to use a small pin to press the Reset button at the lower bottom (left) of the device to get it to reboot.
If it does not reboot, power down or shut-off, does it stay on with only the RED LED flashing.
Probably the battery is dead or dying..
i am in a similar situation.. i can only see a Red flashing LED. the tab wont reboot, go into diagnostics or respond to any plethora of button press combinations..
For those of you reporting problems with your Vpad7 - apparently not responding & only flashing red LED, can you access/read/verify your device's FTM status? Does it show any sort of boot-up sequence at all (the 3 birds being the common one for official Viewsonic Vpad 7's?
Please re-check your mSD card - you have one inserted right? properly formatted and not corrupted, readable as a USB drive when taken out & connected to a PC? Try removing any Sim card or vice versa, insert one and try to boot it up? Has the battery being charged to 100% (using the stock 2.0A charger - typically take 4 to 8 hours)?
Since it's NOT rooted and has no custom recovery installed (right !) - even a successful effort to boot into Recovery Mode won't help at all, but, it will help if you can get into bootloader mode.
Still following ... if everything checked out up to now, it's very likely that your ROM was corrupted/damaged and you need to reflash the "correct" factory ROM (RUU or *.nb0 file) using the factory utility - as discussed in the referenced link .
If you think you know what you are doing and dare to try a DIY rescue by flashing it all over (got nothing to lose anyway, it's a brick - paperweight at this point) - see if you can access the viewsonic website and download the files directly ... if you cannot download/access the files, please post here or PM for possible alternatives from my private collection now in cloud storage (it's geared mostly for newer/ITE devices, however, but not all of it) Please be specfic with your model's firmware/build & other info as shown under FTM or see your factory carton's box for the technical info.
If it's under warranty, by all means, contact support & get RMA to return it for repair/exchange - in 2 to 3 weeks (4 ?) you will have it back in working order, good as new - no fuzz, no worries & the "brick" can fly in android again.
If none of these apply, another possibility for the advanced users daring to play in a "what do I get to lose at this point situation" - to try to connect it to PC and run ADB using terminal emulator, to try to bring it back to life or at least restart/reboot it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1229804
Good luck & I will check back soon ...
Unfortunately, mine will respond to none of these. nothing shows up on the computer when i plug it in.. not a sound, nothing. i may try booting up my old linux partition and see what /var/log/messages has to say when i plug it in..
i have an inkling that the battery has completely died though.. its a smart battery so has a PCB attached to it. if this has gone then i doubt the tab will power up.. unfortunately, replacement batterys arent easy to source..
i will let you know how i get on with it later on tonight when the GF and Kid have gone to sleep so i have some peace to potter around the house..
cheers for all your help my friend!
Today I plugged it in to my computer.
There was a white flash on the screen then same thing happened again.
The red light will blink sometimes or it will stay on as if it is charging but nothing is showing up on the screen.
Does anyone know how to open up the viewpad 7 or a manual on how to change the battery?

removing the back is rather simple.. run a credit card or any thin plastic along the edge starting at any corner.
good luck finding a replacement battery though.. i have searched high and low and cant find then for sale to the public that isn't a bulk order anywhere.
if you do find somewhere, please let me know..
Mine is an olivepad but I think the viewpad 7 and olivepad are the same hardware wise. (I may be wrong).
Maybe we can exchange the battery with another with the same voltage rating. And maybe higher mAh rating for better battery life?
It's already bricked so I don't mind experimenting a bit.
Here are some pictures I snapped.

Viewpad 7 won't charge battery and power on
Hi
Seems like it might be enough to just parallel connect a phone battery, with 3,7v to the battery PCB for a short period, to be able to charge the battery again.
Mogens
I disconnected the battery for 30s and assembled it back again, but the red flashing continues and it can't be turned on or charged.
Battery is over discharged.
1 - Open it and disconnect battery connector on mother board and reconnect and try to charge. If the battery percentage appears on screen appears and moving means its charging. Charge for few hours then turn on.
2 - Disconnect battery connector and charge it for 5 mins by using any 5V 1A power source for any mobile. Then put back battery connector and charge using original charger. If no other 5v 1 A source available, you have to cut the wire of same original charger and use +ve and -ve.
Regards
Nauman

Phone entirely bricked. Won't turn on, won't charge, nothing.

I was taking a video, and finished it, when suddenly the phone froze up and turned off. I've been using MIUI, and while it's mostly pretty stable, reboots and crashes happen, so I just rolled my eyes. But since then it's been completely dead. I couldn't turn it on, even after taking the battery out several times, can't put it into recovery or download modes, and it's been connected to the charger for about ten minutes now and still nothing.
I haven't flashed anything for ages, haven't done anything odd with the phone at all, I have no idea what could have provoked this. Please help, I can't imagine what I'd do if my phone was permanently dead.
Samsung Galaxy SII with MIUI weekly ROM (currently 2.4.27)
Things I have tried:
Long press power button to turn it on (obviously)
Same thing after taking the battery out for ages
Press Vol up + Home + Power to put it into recovery
Press Vol down + Home + Power to put it into download
Plug it into charge
Plug in data cable connected to computer
Take out battery for a while, then replace, plug data cable into computer (but not phone), hold volume buttons while plugging in phone (internet guy told me to)
Everything above shows absolutely nothing on screen. Charging heats it up a little.

Just another try:
Maybe only the screen is "defect".
Boot into download mode - even if the screen keeps black.
And connect the phone via USB cable to your PC.
If the PC recognizes the phone, you could try to flash another ROM (with Odin).
If not ... is your phone still on warranty?!
Good luck !

Nope. Not a bad idea though. I wondered if the screen was broken, but then there should be vibrate and boot audio when it boots up.
Take the battery out dude, leave it out for 3 mins, then put it back in, then try accessing download mode (vol down + home + power)

Same issue.
Sorry for the thread resurrection, but I have the exact same problem as the OP. Only I wasn't even using my phone when it died it was just sitting on the side.
The 'back story':
My phone died whilst doing absolutely nothing. I tried plugging it in to charge and it came up with theimage I've attached below, and it just flashes on and off the screen at random intervals.
I tried recovery - nothing.
I tried D/L mode - worked once but got the 'battery too low - cannot download' error and it hasn't worked since.
Tried 2 different batteries - nothing.
Removed the battery for 10 minutes and retried - nothing.
Removed the battery while keeping the phone connected to the charger - nothing.
Connected phone to PC with original cable - nothing.
The top of the phone also gets hot when trying to charge.
Cannot attach the image yet as I can't post outside links...
But the symbol is the greyed out battery with the 'loading' ring.

Do you even have an I9100 ?
All you need is a USB jig which will force your phone to enter into download mode. USB jigs are small devices which are very helpfull if something goes wrong while flashing. You can buy a USB jig directly from ebay, it is for about 4$ - 5$ or you can make one home yourself. It's not very hard.
Check out this link to make your own USB jig.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100T wont turn on - Help Needed

Hi,
My Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100T isn't turning on. Its Not rooted and is running latest version of ICS (Vodafone Australia). I have tired the below with no results
1. Changed the batter to check if original battery was faulty.
2. Tried to connect phone to Samsung Kies software. Could not connect the phone to Kies via USB. Phone isn't getting detected.
3. Tried soft reset. (Removed battery and pressed power button for 10 sec)
4. Tried hard reset (Pressed volume down button with Volumen down and home button already pressed, for a min. or longer)
The phone has not suffered water damage or dropped. The phone was working fine today morning and I put it to charge as battery level was low, returned after 15 mins to find the phone switched Off. Has not turned on since then.

remove the battery, then wait for 20~30 secs then put the battery back and plug it to a wall charger and see if charging batt icon appears back, if so wait for it to be fully charged(100%), after that try turning ON the phone and see

if the phone is still under warranty u can approach ur nearest Samsung Service center ma8
more detail needed
can you explain exactly what happens when you try to turn it on or boot it?
i had the same problem too . put the phone in charge for sometime . even though the charging indicator doesn't show up it will show up in a few minutes , then you can turn on the phone normally . if that doesn't work . remover the battery and charge it separately in one of those battery adapter chargers . and put it back in the phone and try to turn it on . it happens usually when the battery is fully drained or it malfunctions and shows that it has no charge left even though there is charge left in the battery . in that case you may try the above methods . else you have to take it to the service center
I have this problem, but I dont want to be charged for it to be fixed had it over a year still got half a year to go on contract

Empty battery

Hi everyone,
I have search in many topics and didn't find the answer of my problem.
It has starts with my Rom (Omega v19.1) which has suddenly decided to failed the com.android.phone process. After tried many issues, I finally decided to bring my phone back to old parameters : first flash siyah kernel then flash Criskelo-Servan V12 Rom.
But when I have flashed Siyah Kernel (using CWM), the Siyah logo was just "flashing", like blinking.
Few minutes after, the battery was fully empty. There was no way to restart the phone, even in Download mode which shows me the "Low battery. Can't Download" text. If i just plug the battery, it shows the battery logo fully empty with the ring (the same when your computer is lagging), which isn't turning.
By quiclky testing in a store with another GSII, Download mode was working, so my battery seems to be too weak to restart.
I have tried MichalAmrs method, it doesn't work, by plugging to a Computer or to the wall.
MichaelAmrs said:
Try this-
Take out the battery, then press and hold the ON button for 7-10 seconds (the longer the better). Reinsert the battery, then press ON button to start it. This is a soft reset, and wipes the temporary memory and empties all remaining power in the circuits. This helps on many phones and even laptops that won't start properly or show anything on screen.
If this does not work, try the next step. Again, do as above. But after inserting the battery, do not turn the phone on, but press and hold the ON button and the HOME button at the same time for 7-10 seconds. This is a hard reset, and works best if done after a soft reset. Just be sure the battery has at least some juice in it and isn't empty. If possible, try with another battery if this does not work.

Someone has an issue ? I thought that flash siyah kernel again using Download mode (with another battery) could solve my problem, but I am not sure it will brings the battery back.
Thanks for reading
i would try getting a new battery to see if the battery or phone is the problem
I would borrow the battery from that other SII for a minute and check if my batt is dead or the usb flex is busted.

Back again,
I have bought a new official battery (2000mAh).
When I plug my phone I can now see the charging logo during few minutes (before, I could just see it 20 seconds). But the phone still not charging, and the Download mode also give me the same message "low battery. Can't Download".
So ... what is the problem ? I know it's not very common ...

H900 - Bootloop Or Battery problems?

Hi,
my phone just got into that bootloop thing.

now iv notice that the battery is acting weird, every time im charging the phone when it off its showing different percents. it can say 91% and after I turn on the phone it can say that there is not enough battery to turn the phone on.
before the bootloop thing happend I bought to my phone a super charger:
Tronsmart Quick Charge 3.0 USB
is there any connection between the bootloop, the charger and the battery? I don't have extra battery to check it but is there anybody that know about this problem?
thanks
