[Q] Replacing the Xperia Tablet Zs screen - adhesive? - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've taken the old cracked LCD off my Tablet Z and am about to order a new replacement.
Question is - anyone know what is used to stick the back cover back on and what is the best adhesive for sticking the LCD/Touch screen unit back in (3M double sided tape?). The cover was attached using some form of spongy foam tape - where can I get this from? Is this a sealant for the waterproofing aspect of the Xperia Tablet Z?

as far as understand if you open the case once, your device is no longer waterproof even if you use adhesive/sealant.

I think your right, I seem to remember there is mention of some form of pressure test point in the tear down. In any case I won't be risking it near water. But generally does anyone know what the best adhesive to use is. Original stuff seems to be very strong but soft and tacky, unlike the superglue type which I will be avoiding.

Gasket
Hey Guys,
I have to fix my screen and want to do it properly (read: OEM) so that it is again watertight. I have found the proper gaskets on ebay from the user original_parts_mobile_99, but they are so damn expensive. Anyone else know where these can be purchased from (at a reasonable price)? It seems everyone is selling the gaskets for the Xperia Z phones, but not the tablet

i think it's impossible to make tablet watertight again outside the factory. Even official service centers, while repairing device not always make it watertight again.

Housing replacement

Hi
I have some doubts, I want to replace all the chase of my HD2 and searching I see this
http://cgi.ebay.es/HTC-TOUCH-HD-T82...wItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item3c9dbac865
Well, I see one thing that makes me doubt.
COVER US?
This over is only valid for the HD that sells on US or are the same for all the world and will be valid for my European HD?
thanks!
I have purchase from these guys and the products are good. The one problem you'll have is replacing the screen cover. The screen is basically sealed to the front chasse and you most likely will break it removing it. And, if you don't, then the digitizer is really sensitve and that will be damaged.
kersh have you received your unit?
I've bought my casing replacement here
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260344301669
and it fits like a charm

this is not true (see thread on replacing the lcd screen). There are some holes in the chassis which are - in my opinion - indeed designed to push out the lcd without destroying it. Of course, if you're clumsy you will break it - but this is true anyway and if you feel you are - go directly to a repair service and you'll save money.

Does anyone know how to replace the digitizer only?

Does anyone know how to replace the digitizer only?
I checked youtube how to replace the lcd + digitizer front panel set but I cant find anything on just removing the digitizer from the lcd.
I checked aliexpress and found
"Touch Screen Glass lens Digitizer Panel Replacement For Sony Togari Xperia Z Ultra C6802 XL39h Original free shipping"
for $90.
Do I need the
"5X Digitizer Touch Panel Adhesive Sticker Rubberized For Sony Ericsson Xperia Z Ultra XL39H C6802,Togari,Xperia L4,Xperia ZU"
on aliexpress to make the digitizer stick to the lcd?
Or should I just fork out $150 for the lcd and digitizer set for an easier way?
But I would prefer just doing the digitizer way cause its more cheaper.
Any input would be great guys. Thank you.
AFAIK is almost impossible to remove it as they were bonded with good adhesive....
Some professional equipment are available to remove them but it cost quite a bit to do so...
Even if you managed to pull it off. You cannot water proof it anymore.

Is it the same as the "Z" ?
I saw this youtube video " watch?v=1TFFHFHUJjc " and I feel like I could do it. Search "Sony Xperia Z Separate Touch Screen (Digitizer Glass) Scotle PR-1000 "
Clamps, Heat gun, UV LOCA glue, and Molybdenum wire. I think I could pull it off.

U can try but is not that easy like what they said...
It take alot of patient which i dont hv...
Good luck and pls do update us...
I fixed it already. BUT! I dont know if the digitizer is defective or I messed up the connections when I took the old one off and the new one on or maybe it some how bent or the gule is somehow uneven and it is making the touches off point.
i.e.
I turn on show visable pointer upon touch in developer options.
When I touch the top right it clicks on the bottom left. vice versa.
When I drag down it drags right. vice versa.
Or maybe I need to calibrate the touch screen? I actually trying to search it now how to do it.
Any suggestions guy on any of this?
Please help.
How did you do it? only heat gun?
My Z cracked long time ago..and now my xperia L too So I guess I could try to repair my xperia Z, but I don't want to pay for a whole LCD.
Only heat gun and wire worked?
Besides can you remove the digitizer and LCD and then remove the digitizer? Or it has to be when still glued/connected to the phone?

The official Z Ultra wear & tear thread

The ZU is nearing its 2 year birthday, I've had mine for about 8 months now. So far I have been more than happy with it, although I do have to say I'm quite disappointed with the build quality. To be more specific, the paint job of the aluminium/plastic parts. It literally starts to fall off/rub away, whereas I still baby my ZU. This puzzles me and tells me there is nothing brushed about the 'aluminum (is it plastic?), just an ordinary paint job. Also, I've noticed that the material is rather weak, getting dents easily.
What is your experience concerning the wear & tear of this device?
I must agree that the paint of the aluminium parts is rather weak, my 5 months old ZU already got some of it torn. In addition it gets easily bended, when I put my phone on a table or sth the right bottom corner is like 1mm over the surface. And it scratches a lot, especially the back, seriously I'm only putting it in or from the pocket with no keys or anything and it looks like some really angry cat wanted to play with it. However the front is untouched, despite using pencil a lot to navigate, but the oleophobic coating have gone just after a month and because of it random touches appears. Aparr from these, I have no complaints and sorry for my English, not my native lang
Regards
I bought my second Z Ultra today
The screen on my July 2013 ZU broke with my thighs pressure while I was driving. I thought it was safe but it cracked.
Service centre in India wanted Rs. 10400 to replace screen. Grey market Rs. 8000. And it would lose waterproofing after replacement. New Z Ultra is Rs. 18500. So I bought my second ZU today (Feb 15 make)
Last time a Leather cover was given free but this time its DK30 magnetic dock which is good. I will keep check on price for screen and when it drops I will replace my broken ZUs screen and gift it to my wife who is using my old Note 1
My new ZU is on 4.4.4 so I am thinking if I should upgrade to Lollipop or not. I dont like Lollipop. I used it on Moto E2 and it looks crap.
I have two Ultra and both are in mint condition. No scratches, nothing. Not a single noticeable defect. They move along in cases but still. Have not experienced any denting or anything else that would put them in a worse position so I am perfectly happy with the quality.
I think mine is just over a year old now
Tons of scratches on the back, and some on the front (i don't use a case or screen protector)
I've got it running the latest slimkat and I've got no complaints with regards to this OS
Might be moving onto the Samsung s6
I use a book style cover to protect mine, and it's still in quite good condition. I reckon on having to buy a new cover every 4 months as the plastic frame which holds the ZU cracks or breaks, particularly at the corner where the USB socket is present and there's not enough plastic to be strong.
There's a ding on the corner near the USB connector where I dropped it and the case's missing plastic wasn't able to protect it.
I haven't removed the anti-shatter plastic film on front or back. You can't see the fine pattern of scratches on the front when the phone is turned on. Sometimes I clean the screen with a slightly damp towel, and if I rub hard it polishes out the scratches a bit.
Battery life is still good, I don't think it's diminished too much. Sony have always had good battery technology (apart from when they had exploding laptop batteries!).
Overall then my XZU has been a good phone and I've had good value out of it as I use it all the time - I don't have a tablet, I go straight for a laptop if I need to do proper work.
The XZU is my phone, ebook reader, email reader, news reader, podcast & music player, GPS mapper, instant messaging console (G hangouts), shopping assistant (checking prices in shops with barcode scanner), movie viewer (netflix), chromecast controller (netflix) and occasionally acts as a game console.
My backplate cracked so I used the extended warranty I bought with the phone to fix it.
Sony said they couldn't replace it because its discontinued so they bought out my warranty and phone for the total amount I paid. So I got a free ultra basically.
I fixed the backplate myself. I'd really like to fix the faux aluminum edges. They sell them online but u don't want to go in blind and dissect my phone.
Almost mint here (everything is perfect except that the screen ASF is shinning just a little less than the back one) after eight months. I have two cases, the plastic one I use 95% of the time and the Krusell leather book one that I only use when I think I need an extra protection.
USB protective flap
The Z Ultra has one of the best build qualities IMHO:good: . I do not have a scratch, paint job issue etc. Only problem I had after a year of use was the USB protective flap:crying:. Until it was ok, I used to wash the phone whenever it got dirty. Although the usb protective flap is available on ebay, I'm skeptical about opening, fearing it might lose the original build. If anyone has any ideas - please share.
I put screen protector on my replacement XZU when the one I purchased was replaced under warranty. Only problem is stuff building up in the cracks; dirt, dust, etc. builds up in the cracks of the body, and I HATE that. I also have the ? lens attachment case that I leave on all the time, where the two upper corners have cracked off.

I don't think you have to dissect your phone for the USB flap only.
Just buy a new one on eBay and replace it by fitting the string attached into its hole. ?
Edit: to stay in topic, my Ultra is a D1 unit, exchanged like one month later for another brand new under warranty, and it's been y daily driver since.
Paint have come off of 3 out of 4 corners, but other than that, the phone is pristine.
You should see my old GS3 (which now has my mother in law): all plastic-aluminum-painted edges are broken in several points, there's no paint on the on/off button anymore, plastic back cracked... ?
Overall, I'm super happy and my phone is still as elegant as was when I first opened the box. ?
My screen got hairline cracks twice. Sony repaired it free under the warranty. I also purchased 3 off ebay with cracked screens for under $100 each. I got them repaired through sony for free. $$$$

The phones happened to still be under warranty. When Sony asked for the receipt I just showed them the ebay receipt. I didn't think they would repair it, but they did......4 times....?

That's not only luck, you're the luckiest man alive when it comes to warranties...!
I mean, like 8 out of 10 have all kinds of problems with warranty, you're the live exception! ?

the usb flap is one easy replacemnt. just pull out the existing one neatly just a little pressure, make sure to hold the extension plastic that connects to the flap rather than the flap itself. When you get the replacement just insert the new replacement the same way you pulled out the old one:good:

I ordered the flap of eBay and replaced it as per your instructions. Jiffy - my ZU is back to being new. Thanks!
Have been using Z Ultra for almost 1.5 years now but this is my 3rd Ultra. First one was silver color and I used it for about a year and since the paint in the side had peeled off, sold it and bought Lumia 1520 but screen was not upto my satisfaction (Size-wise), so again bought Z ultra Black color. Unfortunately, within a week, my kid threw moto360 and it fell on the ZU screen, it cracked and touch is not working (Thank God, nothing happened to Moto360). I Checked with Sony as it was hardly a week old but since it was physical damage, they said it will cost around $200 to replace the screen
Instead of that, I went and bought a new one for around ˜ $250 during Christmas offer. It has slight scratches on the back as I dont like to use back protection while the front is in pristine condition. Eagerly waiting for p8Max/LeTV Max now, provided it is in my budget!

I'm with you there, don't rule out the Mediapad X2 either There is a plastic film on the back, which you can easily peel off. Try it out You can stick on a tempered glass sheet on there easily afterwards.

Thanks but wouldnt 'Sony' logo come off as well if I were to remove the plastic film?

[Q] Display glass and touch digitizer glued together?

I am very interested in buying this phone, but before I commit I need to know one thing. Is the touch digitizer and the protective glass glued together like on previous models? Because if so I will stick with my Z1C and abandon the line once I'm done with that. There's nothing more irritating than having to purchase an entirely new screen just because I happened to get a hairline crack in it. I want to be able to use my phone without repairing it if I accidentally crack the screen.
Ideally I would like to see something like a YouTube video of a Z5C with a hairline crack (or completely cracked screen) showing that the touch digitizer works both above and below the crack post-incident.
Info
Since Xperia Z sony use different display than others
the touch panel is nearer to glass also for display panel
they explained it as removing one of air layer between them to have better touch experience and viewing
so this one is like other xperia But there is plenty of reasons to upgrade from XZ1c to XZ5c
it s huge upgrade in all aspects...
:good:
I agree, but if the touch is gonna break when it cracks I'd rather just skip Xperias overall, already had 2 break (Z1 and Z1C), I just don't feel like spending $300 every time I get a small crack in the glass.
Sorry for bumping an (my) old thread, but I would still like an answer to this question, and this seems like a good place to find one. My base assumption is that the Z5 Compact does have this issue (as many Sony devices have before it) so I am tempted to just buy a Nexus 5X because I know it doesn't have it, but I would rather buy a Z5C if I knew it didn't have this issue.
hope this answers your question. Check out the image.

Alright, that seems to suggest that my fears were correct. Damn, really wanted to buy a Z5 Compact.

Need to replace the glass

Hello. I am pretty devestated this morning. Mid last week I bought a Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet. Spent quite a bit on it. Put it in a case, and had a screen protector on it. Though last night it had fallen from the side onto the floor about 3 foot and despite the protection it now has a crack on the screen. The LCD is fine. No problems with it. Though the touch is a bit messed up. It will only notice the touches at the bottom. It's now unusable.
I have been looking everywhere for a replacement digitizer but u can only seem to find a replacement glass with the lcd screen. Costing around £200. Where as I just need the glass.
The z1 tablet glass is around £30 and I believe it may be the same... can anyone confirm? Or will the z1 glass not work with my z2 tablwt. I think they're both the same size... 10.1 ?
Really stuck with what to do here... don't want to be paying £200 to get this fixed.
Did you ever have any luck doing this? I've managed to do the same thing and am now wondering if the z1 replacement will work. Thanks!

You should have very specific equipment for the replacing digitizer on the LCD, better and easy way buy complete set for replacing.
i did this on my z2. It was not as advertised....... the best approach is to by the full LCD and Glass assembly. To remove the old assembley you will need to heat the glass significantly to soften the adhesive. Even then, it will most likely shatter. Dont worry.... you dont need it. Chip, scrape, pull it all off the frame being careful not to damage any of the bezel or the underlying components. Then once all is off, take some goof off and remove all the old adhesive. Then put some new aadhesive or thin double sided tape in the frame track and then reset the new LCD assembley. Prior to that though, verify it works first as getting it back off may shatter the glass again.
Not to tough as long as you have the full assembley to reinstall......
