Screen protector and in the box? - Xperia Z2 Accessories

Hi guys
Just two quick questions?
Firstly did anyone get a cable that looks like a USB otg cable in your box?
And secondly has anyone applied a screen protector to their z2? I applied the one in the box and I dropped my phone. Luckily no damage except the fact I've got two bubbles now because of what looks like little specs underneath. I'll have to double check.
Anywho I've already ordered one from mediadevil (been happy with them since my S) and wanted to take my current one off. So does anyone use a screen protector?
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk

Yes, mine also came with an OTG cable.
I wanted a protector for the BACK of the phone, which was unfortunately not included, so I got a Spigen protector. It was very cheap and easy to install. I'm happy with it.

Get a tempered glass protector, they are amazing!
I use and recommend Nillkin 9H

Yeah i was hoping that the back would be easy to find. Could you possibly share the link with me?
And have you tried using the otg cable?

Hi what actually does a tempered glass protector feel like? Never seen or heard of them before until the other night when I seen one by spigen for like 25.99 lol
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk

Just feels like you aren't using one at all... Because your screen is tempered glass itself. It is better protection than a standard protector bit feels like you aren't even using one

Where did you get yours from? And how much did it cost?

This is the one I got:
http://smile.amazon.com/Spigen®-Protector-Crystal-JAPANESE-Premium/dp/B00IIWWWZI/
I haven't tried the OTG cable, sorry.

I've used the OTG cable. It works just like plugging in a USB to a computer. You can access all your files with the stock File Commander app and when you want to disconnect then you just click the notification to safely remove the USB. It's very straightforward.

I've used otg before but I know with my S I couldn't use it for external usb

eBay $11 delivered

I believe the OTG style cable is bundled to help people move from different devices.
I work for a phone provider and Sony have been banging on about "Xperia transfer" (or something named along those lines) for a while and it can apparently support ios, blackberry and Windows phones for full data transfer very quickly.
I've used USB OTG on a few devices too before, it's alright, not amazing but then again I was using quite a cheap cable. I used es file Explorer when transferring get stuff if anyone is interested.

Didn 't have the OTG cable nor the screen protector,
but was lucky enough to talk the sales into including and helping apply both front and back protectors for free

I don't believe any Z2s actually came with a back protector. I think people were confused because the screen protector that DOES come with it has two stickers on it that say "FRONT" and "BACK." People mistakenly took that to mean there were 2 protectors in there. I could be wrong about that, but so far I've read no confirmation that anyone actually received a back protector.

You are right however I'm sure they do have a back one. I have seen some but just weren't able to purchase it and no I can't find them

lol but sony is a Japanese company
It's because my device is parallel import product, which it is legal in my state. There is less accessories provided.
But actually, the official product provides worse accessories in my state.
We have to pay 40US$ for a Noise Cancelling Earphone ><

if you had watched my youtube unboxing video from post 1 you would had learned this. Don't worry i did the same with my Xperia arc last year. And the one allready placed on is so perfectly placed on from the factory, that it will never fall off, and even after 1 year it was still perfect on the Arc. I doubt i ever gonna use the spare one for anything.

screen protector is either installed on the phone already or it comes separably in the box. Look closely to corner of the screen.
What I'm saying is some boxes have only ONE, applied on the screen already.
Like my Arc.
But with Xperia S I got ONE on the screen and SECOND in the box.
Got mine from Negri. Pretty disappointed now. No HDMI cable in the box either.
They are apologizing but thats it.
I was a willing to pay a little more to get it asap. But I almost didn't order it cause there were no smart tags in it, now that there isn't a hdmi I think I am just going to return it, buy from somewhere else.
In Poland no smart tags either.
Hope there's a screen protector already on it when I get it. The one from factory on my X10 did not come off even after pulling off a protector applied on top.
In the UK according to Three, you get an HDMI cable with it but no mention of Smart Tags.

[Q] POSSIBLE SD card workaround? Sounds like an interesting idea.

How possible would it be for some one/company to make a case for the Droid DNA with an SD card slot? It mean, theoretically it sounds possible, and of course it'd add some size and weight to the phone but IMO it'd be worth it. I got the idea from when I randomly tried a flash with with the OTG cable and it came up as USB storage. So maybe like, the case would go into the charger port of the DNA, and have an SD card slot built into the case which would come up as USB storage on the phone...It sounds like it could work to me, but, would charging work? I dunno, I'm just dumbfounded on why no company has tried this yet.
I had the same idea a while back. It could totally work aside from the fact you couldn't charge it. Unless there was also a charging port on the case. But basically no one would make it because there wouldn't be enough demand. I could see someone making some sort of universal product made in a way that it would lie flat against the phone in whatever case you use. Basically a microsd attached to a thin flat ribbon cable or something.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
It could work, but it would cost a decent amount, and would add a decent amount of bulk to this already large phone.

Yeah I figured that, not so much the costly part, but add a decent amount of bulk, I probably wouldn't have a problem with it aside from the fact that it probably wouldn't fit inside my Moga Pro lol
I'm tempted to diy this. I wonder of there's a otg cable thin enough to do what I want.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
There was a kickstarter a while back for a very small doggle that does this. What I was thinking was making a 3D printed case with the SD located in the back of the phone. You would remove the case to change SD cards, and there would be a passthrough for USB charging and data access.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 4 Beta
The bulk would not be to thick. Look at the ipeel. It's for sim cards but that's a good idea of thickness and design

I'd imagine it would need some soldering skills or something. I'm pretty sure you can get an OTG cable thin enough just by stripping the rubber off of the cable, and removing the plastic casing around the Micro USB connector, but for the other side, wouldn't it require you to take a tiny MicroSD to USB adapter, remove the USB connector on the other end, remove the USB port off of the stripped OTG cable, and then solder the wires together? After doing that, maybe have it sit flat against a DNA case?
Something like this http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/andyfei/mini-microsd-reader-for-android-smartphones-and-ta without the casing and a flat ribbon connection. The biggest part would be the at the phone connector, it would most likely need some custom one made for it as I'm not seeing any off the shelf option.

If those were commercially available, I could see someone possibly making a case for it that has a little square input on the bottom of the case to hide the reader itself, because so far it looks like one little bad touch would probably break the entire reader. Sorta something like this https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/projects/156190/posts/470238/image-250940-full.jpg?1367529002 with the reader going in on the bottom.

Because it's easier to make 1 case that covers all iPhones then to make 1 case for 1 android device which has like .001% market share.

I honestly think I could design something that would be no larger than an Otterbox. With this case installed, charging would be handled inductively. Could even have a full sized SD card slot if you wanted it to.

Seems to work okay with the GS4. I'm sure a small built-in microUSB hub could also handle the charging problem.
My main point is that if you included it in a case the size of an Otterbox Defender, it wouldn't add much bulk beyond what the Otterbox already adds.

I have a Glacier Otterbox Defender, my only gripe with it is the crappy screen protector I had to punch out so I could use my invisible shield. That and it won't fit the best in my Moga Pro anymore, it still fits, just can't have it faced down or anything like that. Anyways, let's say you do make these gifts from god, do you think you'd sell them or make a tutorial or anything like that?

Sadly, i'm not creative enough to actually design something like this. It just seems feasible given the size of the Otterbox and the amount of room there would be to work with.
Hell, they make iPhone cases with an extra battery built-in. A small usb hub/card reader would take up less room than a battery.
EDIT: By the way, I agree - I absolutely HATE the built-in screen protector. It protects, but at the expense of 90% of the sensitivity.

dealxtreme
I have deleted my long list of Xperia Z Ultra accessories found of dx.com/dealxtreme.com because they are utterly useless.
I ordered five things and ensured that they were not marked out of stock. A week later they sent me an email saying they couldn't send because something was out of stock. It proved impossible to respond to them: email bounced, phone numbers didn't work or were never answered, website chat didn't work. Their online ticketing system didn't allow creating a ticket to discuss order, you had to enter a SKU code and I didn't know which item was in doubt. Eventually I stumbled on a ticket type I could create (problem with paying) so I sent them a message and they admitted there were three items of the five they couldn't get! They asked for more time, after five days I told them to cancel the order with a full refund.
So, stay away from DX.com / dealxtreme.com as they are clearly utterly utterly useless.
This is the dock I got and have had good experiences with it. It is slow to charge but works well as a stand for you to charge your phone overnight.

How slow? The original DK30 uses around 2 hours to charge from 0-100%.
I see that Brando also have a bunch of X Z U accessories:

they're more expensive than DX, but Brando in my experience are usually good quality and offer good customer service.

Hello!
I have been using the ZGPAX S5 watch. It is very powerful, not sure if you have seen some of the videos I uploaded but it runs emulators like MAME, Dreamcast and can even use the PS3 controller
BUT, the company that built it is as good it if did not exist because forget about any support from them.
So if no dev picks it up, you are not going to get much from it.
It is more of a Standalone watch than a companion to your phone. Currently only using an app called TableTak is how you can get text messages and reply from the watch.
For charging I bought the original DK30 magnetic charger. Expensive but well worth it.
As for protection, I bought some "explosion proof" glass protector for the front and a regular film protector for the rear and just some cheap plastic case from ebay just for when I am carrying it around. At home etc I just like the feeling of it naked so no cases there
Also about the watch, I returned it as the GPS was not working and right now I am undecided between buying it again or waiting for one to have ALL the features without having to fight to get things working.

I did see the videos yes did look pretty good. Apart from using a very small screen lol. I take it you use emulators on your xzu though. I think my best bet is getting a smart watch 2 at some point then. Do you actually use the dk30 dock or you taken the cable out? I can't see myself getting 1 as I always have a flip case on the phone as too worried about the phone. And wouldn't want to keep taking it out of case etc. I would like to find a genuine Sony magnetic charger though. If I do keep my xzu I would like to get some good accessories. But at present my xzu is in repair. So I have been debating about getting a HTC one max. Just not sure. I do want a good power flip case though would like the cp12. And like the look of the sbh52. that screen protector is it a glass protector and if so where did you get it from? What apps do you currently have on phone any useful/interesting ones?

I used the DK30 all the time. I prefer the phone without a case...only phone that I actually have done this with..it just feels to awesome to hold.
That is the reason I added the glass in front and film on the back though.
This is what I got Glass Protector
As for apps, gosh I got too much stuff to name
From lots emulators to music apps like for tuning my violin.
Folder Mount which I used to same big game data to the external card is a must for me.

screen protector available in .de

Since I'm in a pretty rural area in Germany and the next customs office is pretty far away and it's working hours are far from compatible with mine, I'm searching for good screen protectors available directly in .de or from somewhere where I don't need to worry about customs(UK, FR, etc). Amazon or another well known shop is prefered, if I absolutely must, I'd be willing to create an ebay account.
So, what I want is good front and back protection, for which I don't want to remove Sony's shatter protector. A matte finish is prefered and finger-print resistance should be as good as possible. I've read a little about protectors made of some special class here on the forums, but I've got no experience with it.
Viewing angles shouldn't get to worse with the protector(s) applied and I'd be very happy if the scribbeling on screen with a pen would still work after applying.
Of course, cheap is always better, but quality trumps price for me. So, would you please give me some suggestions, preferably with links since some products seem to be the same but sold under various brands.
I'm using Folix Crystal Clear ordered from amazon Germany.
It's front + back and cost around 8€
Sadly I cannot recommend their Matte covers
Edit: and normally it's not getting send as package! Which means they probably will drop it inside your mailbox!

Thanks for your reply. What's the problem you're seeing with their matte ones?
The problem with Matte protectors in general is, that the picture quality gets compromised and I didn't find any good one (tried many).
And with clear protective covers folix is the cheapest. They last long enough (around 2 years) but I didn't have any problems with them. Also they got nice stuff like cleaning cloth and "bubble remove" cards included.
Sorry if my English is misleading or wrong

Thank you, I just ordered a set, we'll see how they hold up.
Any good tip for a case, too? I'm only finding ugly and bulky ones so far and none of them seem to allow charging in the DK30 dock, which is just madness. I'd like to try Sony's CP12, but it's out of stock - or I'm guessing even production - anywhere I looked.
http://www.protectionfilms24.com sell Vikuti protectors which are well-regarded. I've not used them yet, however.

It was pretty easy to create the charging port hole, the plastic is very thin.

Thanks for that. If you could possibly make a real life shot of the outer texture of the case, that would be helpful. From the pictures on Amazon, I'm not really sure I'd like it.

Its pretty hard to get hold of that wireless charger, well the official elephone one anyway. I did manage though ;0)
I would imagine any wireless charging pad would work though (me thinks)

Yes, this wireless charger is large, and may take difficult, maybe a wireless powerbank would be better.
I can confirm that any qi wireless charging pad works fine! I had some cheap eBay ones laying around, worked fine!
But i have a question concerning the tempered glasses: is there really a difference between P9000 and P9000 Lite Variant? What and why? Thank you!

Sound nice, could you share some photos, and let's have a look, thx.
Can anyone confirm if wireless charging works with either the original flip case or a TPU skin on the phone?
I don't want to buy a wireless charger if they won't work with a case on, as it's a faff to take the case on and off to charge the phone - would rather just use the cable.

Mine charges with the original flip case. No reason to think that it won't charge with a TPU skin.

My tempered glass protector arrived just now, I've installed it, but now I can't use the dam case. I've got 2 cases, 1 that came with the phone or another that I bought from Amazon.
It peels the glass off at the edges, no matter how much stretch I put on the case

I've binned the glass now, as it was useless with the case. The case is the one that comes with the phone

I bought a second P9000... one for my sister and when I put the glass on this time round it bubbles near front camera and proximity sensor. Annoying as first one adhered much better. Case seems more loose compared to first one too. Edges do peel
Anyone have the leather case? Mine doesn't stay shut, which makes the cutout window on it, completely useless.
