[Q] MMS not working with WiFi - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I just recently got the Xperia Z2 and tried sending/receiving MMS picture messages with WiFi on at home and found that it will not go through until I turn it off. I'm currently in the States using the T-Mobile US network. As soon as I turn off WiFi, or if I'm out and about using my phone without WiFi on, I find that the MMS picture messages go through like normal, both receiving and sending. Is anyone having any issues with this that's on the US T-Mobile network, and are there any fixes to this? I haven't contacted T-Mobile yet but I've read a few other forums and it looks like other Android users are running into the same problem. I just haven't seen it brought up on the Xperia phones.
Here's some information on my phone:
- Stock D6503 (Taiwan version that came with the noise canceling headphones & magnetic charging dock)
- 4.4.2 Kit Kat
- Version 17.1.A.2.69
- Has not been rooted, bootloader has not been touched
- Using the stock Messaging app that was installed (Although I also tried downloading the SMS Messaging (AOSP) by Sylvain Galand in the Play Store and it didn't work either)
- MMS auto download & MMS when roaming are both on under the Messaging settings
APN settings were downloaded under the Wireless & networks > Internet Settings > T-Mobile US
Name: T-Mobile US
APN: fast.t-mobile.com

Some other users are saying that their phones will send MMS messages if they enable WiFi calling, but I have not seen that feature included in our Xperia Z2's.
Source: http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/56934
I also read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2724390 and this http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1979 with no solution so far.
I guess I could always just turn off the WiFi when sending or receiving MMS messages but I just wanted to ask the community if there was a fix for this.
I generally don't post questions in these forums as I try to dig around as much as possible before posting. Any help or tips would greatly be apprecaited!

Change your APN protocol from IPv6 to IPv4/IPv6

Thank you so much! Who knew the solution was that simple! I just tried it and was able to send and receive MMS picture messages while connected to WiFi. Thanks again! :good:

[Q] MMS and APN?

Hi guys,
I just got a new Sony Xperia X10 a few days ago and everything works fine. It is an unlocked phone that I am using on the AT&T network right now. However, I cannot receive MMS even though my texting plan supports it. Under mobile networks the "auto internet" function is disabled. I've used the APN settings that everyone has suggested but I still get the message "Currently unable to download. Please try again later."
Any ideas?

Same here, anyone have an answer, I have no cellular data connection (no APN showing even after setting Rogers as provider and it says successfully registered) also as rushofmusic92 states "auto internet" function is disabled.

MMS

So I know this seems to be an issue but cant seem to find a straight answer.
I got my vibrant a few days ago and do not know what rom I am running. I am using Tmobile and I am able to recieve MMS's blurry, and I can not send them. However I updated the APN settings to these
Name: Simple
APN: simple
Proxy: 216.155.165.050
Port: 8080
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Not set
MMSC: http://smpl.mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS proxy: 216.155.165.050
MMS port: 8080
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Aunthentication type: PAP
APN type: internet + mms
Now when I performed this last night working station 3.I was using wifi calling and all of a sudden was able to send MMS no problem. I left and was on regular network and still I could send...no matter what I still recieved blurry ones. I woke up today and went to work at station 4. I again could not send MMS's at all (was on wifi calling and tried normal network). I came back to station 3 and still could not send MMS. I checked my APN settings to make sure nothing changed, and alas it did not. I am on the wifi calling here. I retried and sure enough I can send...I changed nothing and am on wifi calling and when I was at station 4 this morning I was on wifi calling and it didnt work, and i tried on the regular network and it didnt work.
Sometimes I get a general "fail to send", while others I get "error connecting to the network"
My question is why is it working now after i checked the settings and changed nothing.? and how can I find what version and kind of ROM I am running?
Regardless of which I am finding a lot of topics, but cant seem to find a fix for both the blurry issue and not being able to send MMS.
Thanks guys for the understanding and cooperation this whole droid thing is new to me after being a blackberry head. I love the phone but I am still new to this whole thing, I am wish I knew how to update my kernel (if I knew what version or type of a ROM I am running).
I feel burnt out from pondering this all day.

Help I cant send mms

Can someone please help me on how I can send mms via my android htc mytouch 4g slide? Ive configured the network settings, I can receive mms just fine but I cant send any pics that I take from my camera. Im using Vodafone australia and Ive gone to their website and retrieved the network settings and configured my device hence I can receive them just fine but just cant send.I dont get no error it seems to go ok but none of my friends say theyve gotten them. At first I thought cause its a 8megapixel camera the attachment might be too big, the pics are about 1mb. I remember my last phone I always had to compress the image to about 600kb to send it. Anyway I changed the resolution of my camera to the lowest setting and the pic was 24kb but they still didnt get that mms. I dont get it, what gives?
I've noticed this on some phones, try a different sms app such as go sms. It might work better as if I recall correctly it has some additional mms settings such as message size and includes workarounds for some known mms problems.

Hoi,
did your check your settings for mms-server and mms-port in your settings ?
Otherwise post them, so we can find out where the problem is.

try to active/unactive 3G, sometimes it's fixed for me.
As for sending MMS I use app called Handcent. Try it, it is free (and for me the best solution for SMS and MMS)
I am having the same problem. I can receive pics but I can't send them.
I have US T-mobile and here are my APN settings:
APN: epc.tmobile.com
Proxy: Not Set
Port: Not Set
Username: Not Set
Password: Not Set
Server: Not Set
MMSC: (ht)(tp)://mms(dot)msg(dot)eng(dot)t-mobile(dot)com/mms/wapenc <-(I cant post links but you get it.)
MMS Proxy: Not Set
MMS Port: Not Set
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication type: Not Set
APN type: Not set
Also I've tried a couple other messaging apps like gosms and handcent. But they didn't help.
Do you have mobile data services switched ON? Even when I am on Wifi Network, I have to switch my 2G/3G ON to send MMS.

Here is an interesting development... I flashed CyanogenMod 10 on my Sony Xperia arc S phone and the ROM downloaded some settings by itself. There are 3 APNs that comes with this ROM.
1. ATT
2. ATT LTE
3. StraightTalk ATT
StraightTalk was picked by default. I was about to delete them all and enter the settings from here but then I received a text message from a friend... Lo and behold, it was a MMS message with a pic attached and already downloaded. I saw that my WiFi was on, so I turned off the WiFi and asked my friend to send me more pics... They all arrived including a video snippet.... Then I sent one, a larger pic, and he received it. All amazed I fired up the CM10's browser and went to www.testmy.net Did a smarttest and my download was 3.4 Mbps and upload was 577 Kbps... In Phoenix, AZ...
Here are the settings that came with CM10 ...

Does this make any sense now?
That's the settings I use for straight talk, works great. I get 4g just about everywhere here in pa. Mms works great too. I've had straight talk for a year and a half on at&t. Can't complain. If you use alot of cell data they will throttle you slow, but I'm usually close to wifi. I've heard 2GB then they slow you down.

I'm getting 1.3Mbps down and 657 Kbps up. Pretty happy with it.
To the last poster, I thought Straight Talk didn't offer LTE coverage?! If it did, it'd be an even more amazing deal than I had thought it was!
My data works fine. Got like 6mbps this morn but my MMS wont send for ****. Using an Xperia Ion
Pantech Pocket ATT - Straight Talk MMS Settings
The Pantech Pocket needs to have the Straight Talk APN data loaded to TWO locations.
Both Phone APN and Wap APN need to be setup with the Straight Talk APN settings.
Straight Talk makes it sound like you only need to enter the information in one location.
You need to enter the information in Phone APN and Wap APN, if you want MMS to work!
APN name: Straight Talk
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: Straight Talk value
Port: 80
MMSC: Straight Talk value
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33
MMS Port: 80
My Pantech Pocket is running flawlessly on Straight Talk now. MMS is 100% functional. The pictures are getting through. I'm getting 5Mbps download speed and 1Mbps upload speed.
My Pantech burst uses only one apn. On gingerbread and ice cream sandwich. I don't run proxy but the rest of the settings I put in and works good. Seems faster tried it. 40kbps proxy vs 4000kbps no proxy. Not sure why. Any ideas?

HOLY SH!T!!!
I just put in the settings Bushmaster78FS posted and I am now on TRUE 4G with ST. 6Mbps!!! ITS FASTER THAN MY WORKS WIFI BY 3X!!!
AMAZING!!! THANKS BUSHMASTER!
Nice
Thanks for the settings you posted Bushmaster.
The settings provided are the first ones I have used and successfully got both data and mms working with only one APN.
Using Samsung Galaxy S III.
1. My phone is unocked and compatible on both AT&T networks and T-Mobile right now i am using an blue AT&T sim and i am thinking to make the move to T-Mobile network. Do you think i can use the same AT&T compatible sim and just change the APN setting to T-Mobile and have it work on the T-Mobile network or so i have to buy a sim?
2. I heard that you can get a free sim by buying a free phone and just using it on your phone but other people say that those sims are lock to those phones. Which is true?
3. I see that Straight talk sells cheap GSM phones and my GF has her phone on T-Mobile so can i buy one of the ST phones and swap it to use on T-Mobile or are the locked and can they be unlocked?
I just switched from the default straight talk apn to the ones bushmaster posted. I went from 1 mbps to 4.8 on a Nexus 4.

I have a unlocked AT&T Pantech Breeze 3 with a Straight Talk sim in it. Am unable to access the web. All my settings still go to AT&T.
Does anyone know the correct APN settings?
I have to go 3 places to do the setups.
# 1 Messaging > Settings > Multimedia > MMS Settings
There I can enter Profile Name: MMSC: Connection Type: Proxy Address:& Proxy Port.
Does anyone know the correct values to put in here?
# 2 My Stuff > Applications > Browser > Manage > Profiles
Profile Name : Home URL: Connection Type : Proxy Address: Proxy Port
# 3 Settings > Network Connectivity > Connection Name > APN : Primary & secondary DNS : Linger Time : Authentication: Username :
Password
Does anyone know the correct values that I need to put in here in order to get my phone to go to the web.
I ha ve voice mail, can call and text. Just not access the web. Can anyone help me here?:

OK, nocoast. You said they absolutely work, would you mind sharing the values with me that you put in all those blanks so that mine will work too.Thanks.
anyone try these settings on S2 i9100 and see speed gains?
APN set, no data.
Hey gang, I've looked far-and-wide and haven't been able to locate a solution so, I throw myself on y'all's mercy and ask if anyone has a clue why I can't receive wireless data on my SGT AT&T GT-P1000.
I received my AT&T Straight Talk SIM the other day and porting the phone over was no issue. However, when I set up the APN I did not immediately reboot the phone due to some confusion about when the service actually transferred. Could this have affected my registration on the ST wireless network?
I've entered the APN settings precisely but, alas, still cannot connect to the wireless data. I really want to move over to ST, not only will it save me $30 a month whilst adding an "unlimited" data plan but, best of all, I'll get to tell AT&T to go pound sand.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
did you add in the " http://"?
Does anybody now any way to unthrotte. Since we all now that ST throttle after 5gb. I called to ST customers service, they told me that unlimited data is only for navigation.

[ANSWER / FIX] How to get MMS working on AT&T Go Phone SIM, and Signal Messanger

Hello!
I have found out a way to allow MMS messages to work on AT&T Go Phone Plans.
I have seen many posts regarding this issue, and many people seem to still have an issue even after it is marked resolved in the github threads.
Here is how i fixed it for my device :
**Device Used**
Huawei Honor 5X
Android 7.1.1 Lineage OS Nightly
KIW-L24
AT&T Prepaid Go Phone SIM
**Steps**
First, if you are using a custom ROM, or even the stock Huawei ROM, It is likely you need to configure your APN settings.
You may have APN's that downloaded automatically, or you can create a new one if none are there.
Here are the things you need to make sure are set in Settings > Data > Cellular Networks > Access Point Names:
Name: ATT Nextgenphone
APN: nxtgenphone
Proxy: none
Port: none
Username: none
Password: none
Server: none
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication Type: none
APN: default,mms,supl,nota,hipri
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
Bearer: Unspecified
MVNO Type: None
Next we need to configure some settings for Signal:
**SMS**
SMS Enabled
"Wifi Calling" Compatibility mode: ON
**Chats and Media**
When using Mobile Data: Images, Audio, Video
When using Wifi: "Images, Audio, Video"
**Reboot your phone and attempt to download an MMS Message**
You should now be able to use your AT&T Go Phone SIM and Signal with both other Signal Users and unencrypted with Non-Signal users!
thanks
the only changed that was required on my side (straight talk on at&t) was to change the MVNO and Bearer to none/unspecified.
I managed to get this working after reverting back to stock and then realizing the difference in default values for MVNO and Bearer. Would have saved me time if only I saw your post 2 days before I found the solution myself. +1
