Lol this seemed too blue.

Umm, 0 0 0? Seems most natural to me

5,35,80 made mine go quite but, even more than my blue screen one x. 0,0,0 really does seem the best for me. Very natural.

This is good, but i prefer use 60 on the blue side.
I dont think we have all the same color temp.
so maybe we should attach the batch number to make it more accurate.
Just my 2 cents

Hi, I'd like to share my settings with those who have yellowish tint out of the box.
Adjusted my white balance to the following and bam the whole screen just looks like day and night to me in color difference.
G - 80
B - 130
Note: each screen is calibrated differently so different results are to be expected.
Hope it helps!

the whites r great

I doubt very much that there's going to be a set of numbers that will apply universally in any meaningful way, because the displays are bound to vary widely in terms of their actual calibration.

Yeah, every display is different and every display changes over time.
You need to do an actual calibration to get it right and periodically recalibrate to keep it accurate.

i have z2 and recently i got another z2 device and i notice that the display is not the same on both mobiles, theres a difference in white-balance/contrast although the settings are the same on both (contrast 100%/whitebalace r0/g0/b0).on the first one the screen is a little bit more yellowish (red alike tint-warm) and the other one is blueish (tend to be more cool oriented) one some white background.and on a black menus the black is more alike navy/antracide and on the other side brownish.is it normal or is one of two opened/serviced (replaced lcd, etc)?or it can be affected by protective lcd film?

Its hard to find two identical devices. Sony uses 2 or more screen manufacurers, thats why you cant use another person's settings.

White balance settings with color control is sweet
Try color control if you have root.

Gs3 yellow tint

Hi guys. First of all let me tell this is far the best Android phone ever had.
But....
This is the second GS3 I have, and both of them have that annoying yellow tint on whites. You can see clearly on whatsapp, web, mailing, whites plain backgrounds.
It's also hard to forget, because when I move the screen 15-20 degrees using it the whites magically became real white, perfect white.
A friend has the same issue with his GS3 but he told me he saw in a shop a GS3 with perfetc whites with no tint at all, white as ice.
With my previous GS2's had some very light blue tint that didn't annoyed me at all (insted, I liked that cold whites temperature).
Tried screen adjuster but dind't help
Any of you guys experienced that?
Cheers.
No yellow tint here. Mine is bluish tint. Love the blue tint though.

Try the yellow tint post same question last month .

Let's just say that the type of lighting you are under have a big impact on how you perceive the color temperatures on your phones. Under lighting in my local phone store my phone looks to have neutral white. Under fluorescent lights in my office it looks slightly pinkish. In indirect sunlight it looks yellowish. Under low evening sun it looks bluish.

Supercurio is working on the app DisplayExpert which makes it possible to calibrate the screen.
He has it running on his S III according to his Twitter.
But the app is not finished yet.

Hi. Thank you for your reply.
I don'n know much about supercurio's works...
Is it much more or less like "Screen Adjuster" (link) that lets you correct using blue, red, green?
Because I've used it but it didn't help. :crying:

I think it is more advanced than Screen Adjuster after reading his Twitter..
But you could ask him if DisplayExpert is better at fixing yellow tint than Screen Adjuster.
Here is a link to his Twitter: https://twitter.com/supercurio
Try flashing Franco kernel r10, it had colour fixes, my whites are now really white, and screen is clearer. You could also try changing screen mode, I use natural

Check in Display Settings if "Auto adjust screen tone" is on.
I read that some got pure white after deactivating it.
Hi guys, really thanx to all for your hints. :good:
Unfortunately unchecking "Auto adjust screen tone" and changing screen modes didn't help changing the whites gradient/temperature.

Every S3 I've seen so far has this yellow tint.
Other problems of this display are (software related):
black crush
oversharpening artifacts (fixed with Hardcore's kernel)

I have my warranty and the entire box at hand and I need to reassure myself before I head to the service center and request for a replacement. If not, I'll just sell it off.
I'm too, disappointed by the yellow tint that comes with this high res screen. As with others, tilting 20 deg will make the whites cooler. I did a bit of digging and found that there are many different shades of white. The usual white, or at least the one that I'm used to, on my Desire HD, is reddish/pinkish white.
You can do a bit of experimenting by looking at a blank page on SIII for half a minute, then look at another phone. If the white is different, it maybe due to different color casting. This will be particularly annoying still if you have to stare at screen tuned to a different temp at your workplace, and when you are ready to relax and use your phone, wham, you hate your S3 again.
I read a lot of 'black text on white background' and this annoy me as hell. I think that yellowish white make me think I'm reading off a piece of wash out toilet paper.
What do you guys think?
The Gs3 screen is actually 7900 Kelvin color temp which is quite blue! http://www.displaymate.com/OLED_Galaxy_S123_ShootOut_1.htm

Sorry for double post that was a screen shoot out I linked...the screen should be down a bit to 6500k for accurate color temp. I can't wait for supercurios screen app it will improve battery life. Maybe op should exchange his phone.big was at Verizon store today the display model was quite blue as well no yellow here.

Mine not for sure. I wish it was bluish like most samoled I had, like GS2.
It's just yellowish instead, and a can see true whites only if I tilt the screen 20 degrees. Seems like a old paper, non beatiful to see.
Gonna return for the second time, but I'm not really confident I will find a GS3 with real whites display like gs2, like I want, like a 600€ 4,8" is supposed to.
Same story for me. Second SGS3 with a yellow tint. If I tilt the phone up or down slightly the whites look right.

When I open internet white pages or open pure white image from gallery, then I notice that my screen is very very slighly blue-ish tint on lower part of screen from corner,
But when I set brightness to 100% then no tint..
Is my screen is ok,

Yep. Your display is right. Amoled can't display white exactly. Cause it's a OLED Display, which has Red, blue and green pixels. Those must mix white, but it doesn't work exactly. But Amoled is perfect for great colours...
I hope, I helped you.

If those blue things annoy you, try "Screen Adjuster" from PlayStore, make setting like you want! I would try Red and Green ~5% and Blue ~1-2%... Samsung has set the screen with more blue, cause the lifetime of OLEDs.

Everyone has already answered you. My screen has a slight blue tint on the top right corner, doesn't bother me.
By looking at your picture the blue tint at the bottom of the screen is very slight. Does it bother you during normal usage?

Hey OP everyone who has answered to your post, has already said that it's ok, it's a property of AMOLED screeens, there are devices out there which have it and which don't have it. There are only 2 things u can do about it 1. Live with it 2. Get it replaced. If you go for option 1 then that's what you do...live with it and if you go for option 2 then remember u get a device which can be better or worse. :fingers-crossed: other than that it's your decision mate. You aren't going to get answers better than these... I mean option 1 or option 2.... so cheers mate. enjoy ur S3
Actually i have no problem from My screen, i was clearing my doubt,
U also know this handset is very costly, if i invested high money on this, Quality should be fine...
so, thats why...

White Balance Settings.

What are some of your white balance settings? Seen someone post red 20 and blue 60. is that going to be the best?
Currently have Crizal Prevencia non glare coating on my glasses and it gives everything a yellow hue due to the blue violet light blocker in the coating. It's giving me a bit of trouble dialing it in. thanks in advance.

I have tweaked mine again and rgb around 5,20, 30 is better. But off course different people different taste. Mine obviously prefer bluish white. But generally the blue is the weak spot and the red one is quite strong. The green is in the middle, but very sensitive to the red value (red and green as yellow). So in the end try it yourself

But i am still tinkering with it
Just a headsup, yesterday when i was originally setup the balance of rgb to 5,20, and 45, my girlfriend (which is a graphic designer and she usually uses a Mac in her work) said that it's bluish to her liking when she handled it, so we tinkered with it and she said that when rgb was set to 0,0,0 it is truer to a real white. So.. I don't know bout you guys but after that comment i can say that this whole white balance thing is really for personal preference only. One setting does not mean much to other's preferences.

Yes, I had the yellow / red hue on the screen on my Z2. I can confirm that there are different screens on the market. I have seen two Z2 with completely normal neutral greys and two with the yellow/red hue. I returned mine and searching for a better unit...
Here is a example picture of a bad and good Z2 displays. The one on the right looks right against any other LCD.
check --> settings - display - white balance make red , green and blue "0"
i have yellow tint on mine as well, just got it yesterday.
White balance was at default 0,0,0
set red > 0
green > 100-110
blue > max 255
and youll get a cool white display without yellow tint
In all honesty if you have to set blue to maximum to get white, something's wrong surely.
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
Yeah just out of curiosity i set mine to the numbers provided, it looks horrible, your display must be defective
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk 2
In my example picture above, both screen are at 100% manual brightness, and RGB white balance settings are 0,0,0.
If it is normal that two screens are so different, the tolerances in manufacturing are horribly large. Not at all acceptable for this price level of products. I returned my yellow screen to the store and we tried to find a unit with a normal screen but it looked like all their stock was with the yellow screen. Annoying, as I have seen two perfectly good neutral screens on my friends' Z2 units.
Not sure if I should continue buying and returning in a different place or just throw in the towel and get another brand and model phone entirely.

My screen is a bit yellow by default, but changing the white balance sorts it (nice of Sony to pop that in). To be honest I don't really notice it unless I put it next to another phone anyway. My phone was made in China and is the black model. I believe it's Phones4u stock, for what it's worth.
What is annoying though is that my screen appears to be a tiny bit askew... I noticed straight away that the front glass is, but now I'm sure the screen itself is. Will have to find the measuring tape to know for sure.

KCAL settings for best display color and contrast and also get rid of ghosting

Hola!
OK, at some point I will finally update the calib.cfg file again. But for now here are the settings I am using with a KCAL enabled kernel to remove ghosting from my screen as well as drasically improve contrast and colors.
I use Kernel Adiutor:
-------------------------
Under 'screen' section >
Screen Color (This kills the ghosting a lot of users are experiencing as well as removes the blue tinge the screen has):
Red = 250
Green = 250
Blue = 235
Minimum RGB value = 35
Saturation Intensity = 27
Screen Hue = 1520
Screen Value = 112
Screen Contrast = 132
---------------------
I have been running it for awhile and it looks fantastic and I have not had anymore ghosting. It also makes the screen look similar to my Note Edge when I first got it. Contrast is improved a LOT. Colors are better. They are not over saturated. Very close to natural. Whites are white and not blue (at least on my display) etc.
Please let me know your results.

I don't think so, no. These require a kernel with KCAL integrated. You can kinda adjust the screen values without root by going into settings > general > accessibility > vision > screen color adjustment > manual
But that's about the best you can do beyond nonroot screen filter overlay like cflumens supports etc
Thanks Helf. with this tweak, the display looks great!
by ghosting you mean image retention right? if that is the case, well this is awesome! Thanks
A little bit over 15 hrs and no ghosting. My only beef is how the blues look but it's a good configuration overall, easy on the eyes.

You're doing a great service for us all. Blue's and greens come off slightly dull like they could use a little saturation but if it's at the cost of prevent the ghosting effect i understand.

hm. The colors in general are probably a little duller. The vibrancy and contrast and all is usually cranked up on phones Samsung is especially awful about it. People like the 'pop' though. I just compared several shades of blue and greens with the screen at max brightness using the camera app, the colors are almost dead on to my eyes. Granted i have to manually drop the ISO a couple notches because the phone wants to automatically crank it too high (like true-to-life brightness/colors around my work desk it wants to use an ISO of 600 and ISO 200 was real world accurate. heh).

How do the blues look? I need to put the phone with a color calibrator and check it. Mine look pretty close to natural when I eye ball it. I'll keep working on it

You have spectrophotometer? I would love to see some values to use, but wouldn't it be different between devices? No panel is exactly the same, or?
I seem to remember that being reiterated quite a lot on various display discussions I've followed in the past.

Yeah. I don't have a fancy one. It's old but works lol.
There is a variance between panels but it's not as severe as it has been in the past.

Been trying these settings for a while, personally I really like them. Thanks Op!
Anyone else have any settings to try?
Do you use these settings along with Comfort View? Or do you leave the Comfort View setting turned off?

I use it with CF.lumen.
I don't use comfort view. If you enable it with my settings on you'll have a really yellow display.
Be sweet if there was a way to get kcal with stock kernel. I do get the image retention on mine pretty bad sometimes

Just tried it as well on H918 running WETA with stock kernel and it installed and activated properly but nothing changed. Tried a few different configs and reboots just to see but nothing. Thanks for the share though. It'd be just what I'm looking for if can get to work
Is there any chance applying these changes would cause auto brightness to stop working? Possibly it's coincidence, but I changed my screen settings to exactly how it was in the OP, and since then I've noticed auto brightness no longer works on my phone? I don't see how making these changes would cause that but I figured I'd ask here to be sure, or to see if anyone else has the same problem.
