[Q] Do I have the correct apps installed on rooted phone - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know everyone has there own ways and own apps they like, people like different things and different ways to do things, I am looking for the basics, I want to know that ive not installed 2 or 3 apps that basically the same stuff, and is pointless having them,
I know that some are imperative to have on a rooted phone, and some are just to help people do certain things, here is the thing I have got all these apps downloaded and havent used any apart from 1, and only just tweaked a few basic things as dont want to ruin my phone,
ive not even backed my phone up yet or flashed a custom rom, both are high on my list to do but cant seem to find the answers out there which I know will be some were,
The thing is there is not much at all on my phone "acer liquid e2 v370" so dont want to use stuff from another phone incase it doesn't work and I brick my phone,
Anyway if someone out there can help me or even show me the door to were I can find this stiff out then I would appreciate it so much, anyway back to the question in hand, about the apps I have installed, are they the right ones? and I dont have 2 apps that, basically do the same things,
Ok this is what I have and if anyway possible anyone can either tell me or show me were to find the things I need to know about these apps,
And if it would work on my phone etc etc, ok this is what I have, 1st is supersu, titanium backup, busybox, t.w.r.p., android tuner, root uninstaller, root checker, this is it all ive got, I know everyone has different things depending on what they want to do with there android system, I just want to start with the basics and learn as I go, everyone starts at the bottom, so only way to become the best is get your hands dirty so to speak, so here I am wantinf to get involved just hope that someone out there can pass some knowledge my way as it will be appreciated so much, thanks again for your time and reading my thread, bazzaboy1:good:

[Q] Playing with my build.prop

If I play with my build.prop settings is there any chance of bricking my phone?
I fully intend on making a backup of the build.prop for when I inevitably mess it up, but I don't have a full system backup if I softbrick.
The reason I want to do this is that some of the Tegra 2 games won't work on my phone because they are "not available in my region". I think that is bs, and I think modding my build.porp will help. So I want to modify my settings to trick the game into letting me play.
On that note, could anyone tell me what settings to change? The 'region' setting is a no-brainer, but anything else? There are quite a few items that indicate KR or olleh (the provider).

Worst case just flash a ROM

btw - I'm stock gingerbread with root. I'm not really interested in ROMs (at the moment), I'd just like my phone to act like it's American <insert joke here >. Basically, I want it to tell the software that it is an AT&T phone in America, so that I don't get rejected because I'm in Korea. They have strange gaming rules and many hoops to jump through before a game can be released here. Hence my shenanigans.
If you have a knowledge of adb then you are fine. You can soft brick but not hard brick.

Hey guys,
I've been searching and searching and I can't really find a way to fix this problem I've been having.
I have a Motorola Atrix from Bell running 2.3.6 and I had rooted it.
I got a little power hungry since this is my first android and therefore obviously my first root, and I started deleting stuff like crazy. Unfortunately one of those things was all of the yahoo system apps since I didn't look up if they were important or not, and they obviously were.
My problem is as an attempt to re-install all the yahoo files, I tweaked the build.prop file. I opened it as a text file and changed the ro.build.version.sdk=10 to ro.build.version.sdk=9, i think it was the 6th line of the build.prop text then I rebooted my phone.
I never made a backup or nandroid or anything like that, mainly because I didn't think anything that bad could happen from it. Then I ran multiple factory resets of my phone in hopes to fix this problem, but it still persists. All my phone does now is continously try to boot up, but it just keeps restarting itself halfway through, I can't get to the unlock screen or anything like that. I feel like I royally messed up my phone, if anyone could help me out with this it would be much appreciated.
I can run hard resets using the buttons and run things such as fastboot and RSD even though I dont really have much idea what they are. So I've been trying to educate myself a little with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600&highlight=soft-bricked+atrix and I'm finally starting to understand what I actually did to my phone.
Once again any help would be much appreciated, thanks, if you need any more information just let me know.

1st Root 8 months ago,Now having issues, need suggestions with updating.

Back around April or May thanks to you folks here, i was able to root both mine and my fiance's Lg thrives (at&t) but with ST sim cards.Used the Gingerbreak on it and did the whole guide etc etc..Very greatful
After that i didnt keep up with it,and both myself and my fiance have ignored all the updates in fear that ST would find out or something which i now know wont happen.
I never flashed any custom roms or anything..We just wanted to be able to have the phone with the basics.
The phones are really acting up now.Dropping calls (my fiance's calls drop everytime)
Over at HF they suggested coming back here and do some reading..
My issue is that there are so many options i dont know where to start.
I am hoping for a suggestion,on a custom rom thats easy and basic.
I honestly dont remember if i have to re-root, or what.I totally forget the concept here.I dont need rooting instructions,or how to actually do any of it..
I moreso just could use someone to tell me the process.Like first root it with this etc, then put this rom on etc etc.
I would be so very appreciative. You guys rock here!

can someone spare some time for a noob? (ELECTRIFY)

HI, I rooted my phone...or sort of....because mine had been upgraded to the 2.3.5 which I've been reading doesn't have something to unlock the bootloader.....sooooo anyway, at this point I don't know what to do next. I've been reading about clockworkmod....i downloaded it and it didn't have an option for electrify so I chose atrix (no option for photon either) bc i read somewhere that they were similar....anywho...I'd like to install cool roms that have capabilities for faster booting time, faster processor (maybe because mines not all that bad)..and just cool and nice...but being as that I don't have the FULL root (as I've read) I am worried about screwing it up....
not only that but there seem to be so many steps that I don't want to forget something.
I've also already backedup my apps with titanium as well as ultimate backup....just in case.
whatelse do I need to do and will I be able to get a ROM without having the full root?? (root checker says its rooted, but titanium gave me some kidn of message before backing up about not having entire priviledge or something like that.
I don't mean to repeat stuff but I've searched and searched for hours on end for electrify stuff and it seems like everyone just has the photon....please help and give me step by step "for-dummies" instuctions....
I am finishing my bachelors in IS so I do know some limited programming but no where near what y'all know....
thanks
(oh and please decypher any accronyms u might use because the only ones i am familiar with is ROM, and CWM)
THANKS
Someone gave this link to me, this guy made videos for EVERYTHING that even an idiot like me could follow!!! Just watch the entire video, then when done, replay but pause at each step. Easy!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250697
i hope its for the electrify...thanks so much!!!
Everything I have seen thus far applies to both and is posted if for some reason it's not. But I have yet to see anything unless its Beta.
Wrong sir, if you are on 2.3.5 for the Electrify, you cannot unlock the bootloader at this time. There were some people working on it, but I haven't heard too much info as of lately.
Well now I have a separate question
is it possible to code your phone once it is on rooted to do what you wanted to do like speed up boottime or code junkies so you can take screenshots? But without having to download an application, just access the root of your phones and code it, is that possible?
Oh, do I only wish.... Maybe I should start a thread...
so..... screenshot app after rooting even with 2.3.5 locked bootloader works. after rooting, instalking busybox, superuser, all those goodies. just downloaded screenshotER and opened the app and set it all up.... takes screenshots now

Unfortunately removing the preloaded apps won't help your storage issues at all. Those apps are located in a different part of the system (/system/app) than the apps and data (/data/app + /data/data) that you add. You can (if rooted) move apps to the /system/app partition, but they don't always work or update correctly from there as it requires special permissions to run from there. But there really isn't much to do besides rooting it and doing some modifications to your set up. They don't call em budget phones for nothing.
Options include swapping the internal and external mount points so it reads your external as your main internal storage, creating a partition on your external and using a script to link your /data/app and/or /data/data folders to that partition so it reads as one big space (however big you make that partition), or using an app like Folder Mount to create a link between big folders on the internal to the external (mostly helpful for big game data). All of these require a bit of knowledge, but nothing that some time and reading can't help you with. It is not exactly rocket science. Knowing what update you are on though is important, both so you pick the right rooting method (there are multiple options if not on 4.2.2 yet) as well as, if, worst case happens, you know what version of the software you need to reload. You can find this info under Settings / About Phone. Make note of not just the android version, but the build or system version as well as there can be mini updates to software that changes things but not the actual android version.
As far as Kingo, I've never read anything other than hearsay about any potential malicious activity on their part. The reason you see most people freaking out about it is because when it first was introduced, it was known to send IMEI info back to their servers in China. Kingo never tried to hide the fact, explained their position about why they were doing it (diagnostics), and promptly changed how that was done. Now, by nature of what it is doing (root = gaining admin access to the operating system), it needs to download closed sourced scripts and files to gain this access . They don't want to disclose their sources for 2 reasons: 1) if the manufacturers of the phones that don't want it rooted see how it is done, then it's much easier to patch that on the next update and 2) so other people don't steal their work. Makes sense to me, but some people are concerned about closed sources (even though many apps already installed or that you download are closed source as well). I've used it on quite a few devices and have never had problems. You can uninstall the companion app it installs (it does this for some devices to help gain access through a backdoor) and update the SuperSU app and binary it installs via the Play Store, so don't really see it as an issue.

That's a guide with everything you should need to fix the phone if anything were to happen or to just return it to it's original state if wanted / needed. Read through the thread a bit and see where other members were having trouble and the solutions to those. If you get comfortable with that and how it works, then modding your phone becomes much less scary. And once you are rooted, tethering is even better because you can typically hide your activity much more. I don't know if it is a big deal with carriers around where you live, but here, most people have to pay for tethering or make sure to have special plans that typically cost more than ones that don't include it.

Help.... please

Hi, I've got an INTEX Aqua Prime 3G smartphone. At first everything seemed to be fine, but two weeks after buying it popup ads started to show up and apps began to install themselves (Activitys and such......). As I've read, it seems the rom comes with malware itself, so it's not like I fked it up, it was already a mess from the beginning....
Things are: I rooted the phone cause I thought maybe I could get rid of the system apps that were provoking this. I deleted a lot of apps just to keep having the same problems with popup ads and self-installed apps. It does not go away.....
So I thought I could install a new ROM. Here comes the problem... I can't seem to find any rom for this phone (along with any info... it's like it doesn't exist for some reason).
Could I install a rom which is designed for other smartphone but with the same processor as mine? I'm just super confused, super tired and I don't know what else to do with all this.

Thank you so much por replying. I've seen the video but my problem is not about not knowing how to flash it. There are no roms for my phone it seems.... so I was wondering if I could install one that it's not made specifically for it... also I can't risk bricking it as it's the only phone I have, so I just really don't know what to do
It seems like I lost the money

Don't think so. Probably a slim chance to be able to port, but you still need system files from your rom, and a custom rom from a phone with same resolution and cpu. Might be a chance, (I don't know how much you messed up your /system, but maybe still have the files you need)... Search Google for 'port rom xda'...
