Dear Samsung
, the development community, are striving very
hard to achieve that objective. Many users of
Android based Samsung devices want to make the
phones released by you truly inspirational and
surpass any competition. These powerhouses will
achieve its true potential only when the
development community get the Rom Source Codes
will not only benefits the end user but will also be
highly beneficial forSamsung in the long run, as
these customers will then get utmost satisfaction
with their device and will then help in the word-of-
mouth publicity of Samsung products all over the
world.
A truly inspirational product is born when it
inspires the masses and is able to mesmerize the
entire world. With great phones like Samsung Galaxy Star Duos Gt-S5282, we are witnessing a paradigm shift in the
mobile industry and need your little help in making
this turning point even more monumental.
We request you to release the source code for the rom(and not just the kernel) as well as drivers for the different hardware components that require it.
We hope we will not be disappointed by a customer
centric company like yours. Hoping for a positive
response.
Warm regards,
A true Samsung fan.

oh, you mean this github.com/codekidX/android_device_samsung_gt-s5282 ?
that tree is not even half complete.. and sorry but half of the commits there are ******** >_>
the only complete tree is cm-10.1 by unjust. however he did a blind update for cm11, but that needs a lot of reworking :|
and as for the patches, you can see my post in the other thread.. :s
i'll take that as a compliment, thank you ._.

i don't remeber joking about anything :/
and screw petitions.. if you think samsung will release anything (other than the kernel which they have to if they don't wanna get ***** because it's GPL), then you all need take your head out of samsung's ****
samsung doesn't want people to make custom roms.. if their 1 year old Galaxy Star 4.1.2 is running a smooth and stable 4.4.4, who the hell is gonna buy their new Galaxy Sh!t 4.4.4 with their new and improved Touchwiz?

it's of no use, they will just ignore it.. just take exynos for example :|
nope not that i know of.. samdung only releases source for kernel, cause that's what they need to release anyway..
the source was released by broadcom for their gpu videocore iv for raspberry pi, which iirc turned out to be not so helpful for galaxy y..
looking at the gerrit review of androidarmv6.. it looks like they are modifying sources to work with proprietary blobs and modifying other sources to work with the device.. and that's for audio, gpu etc...
those, work in this device.. camera can be fixed on further looking.. the HAL was working but crash is due to some memory heap error..
the only problem is of ril.. and i already have said about ril in other thread

I dont think samsung cares about releasing source other than kernel which is why this friday I'm buying Moto G and leaving Samsung for good. You guys should do the same since samsung wont care and keep making bull**** phones.

Only because they *must*, unless they only want to sell their phones where copyright does not exsist. They are not by required by the apache license to give the source. Just take a look what they did and are doing with the exynos.
I don't know what the f**k is samsung doing, they could have just updated this old device, but no they release new ones with basically just a little hardware improvement which could have been done firstly in the old one. :|
Speaking about hardware the sc8810 board used this device can handle 640x480 resolution and 1gb of ram just fine. And the new star ii they are going to release is supposed to use sc8815 board which can handle 800x480 resolution.
But no, they have to cripple it down to no good and make people think spredtum is ****ty. though not good as the big games out there. spreadtrum makes considerable SoC for the price it is offered.
And you can find far better spec'd spreadtrum devices produced by other companies. But many people won't even look at those devies and buy the crippled samsung ones, cause it's samusung duh. >_>
And oh, they also say, the 1gb galaxy s3 is not able to handle kitkat. and here people get kitkat running on 3 year old armv6 device with 290mb of ram :3
Good, thing my star broke, i wanted to throw it anyway. =|
By the way welcome back. and thanks for contributing to this device. if it was not for you and others this device wouldn't even imagine of making a place in xda.
And have fun with your new Moto G =)

hmm waiting for mine to break. But ill have to break it with perfect timing to get a new mobile.
And they released 4 new phones just when better mobiles were crushing the market. The biggest noobs here might be better than samsung at such things. Uhhh!
Well this 1 was the gud 1(At its price) when i bought it so really cant complain on the better mobiles but if they just paid a bit of attention on this phone No-one wud be mad

ril would have worked without source if they had not modified the API too much, the audio, hwc and others work pretty well..
if star 2 will use standard api, there is a chance it can be portred for star, too.. as the board is similar
anways, this device has no developer for now, at least a bootable build of cm11 could be made if any one was working on it :3

welcome back bro
i checked with the htc devs but to no avail none of them are ready to touch a stupid samsung device(u can see why)
@superuser tried to help but naa it dint work out.
and are u gonna develop 4 dis device?
and ur star broke?
so darn lucky:laugh:

The Galaxy Ace Wall has Fallen......

http://www.xda-developers.com/announcements/where-did-my-forum-go-3/
This is bad news, I think our ace community is quite large and our ace is still fairly new. Anyways lets just keep on doing what we do best and that is makeing our ace the best it can be, we don't have to be on the main forum.

Get us a CM9 port, that would boost the activity here
bad news... I don't know what coolya said about definately having an official version, but after that I really doubt it boys. Honestly so far CM7.2 by vo-1 is a very good rom, in my opinion is the most complete and stable and something tells me that it won't get any better than this.
I mean even if we won't get official, our ACE is still one hell of phone with this version of cyanogenmod on. And afterall, it's just a phone!!!!
In my opinion the thing is, all ROM cookers are separately working instead all collecting under the same roof and starting a big project (pointing at MIUI). Most of the phones which have CynogenMod or MIUI are on the main index, bacause? Its because those ROMs are made collectively by many developers at the same time.
It goes like this:
The bigger the project is - the more bugs spawn - more suggestions come - more mods come for them - more fixes - more themes - which ultimately leads to more activity in that particullar forum.
So as a viewpoint from a user, I'd like if all our developers come together no matter how much education he has about Android but they can contribute to the bigger goals. Make an official ROM for our Ace with widest possibilities of modding in it. I think we would gain our position back on the main index.
So what do you guys think?

I talk about it exactly as you said in the very recent past and never got an answer for that. I absolutely agree with you.
The bottom line is this... mobile phone market as every electronics market is moving so fast that our ACE is now cosidered an old device. Keeping that in mind along with the fact that ACE happens to be a mid range phone then game is over. So if we haven't got an official CyanogenMod by now that means that will never gonna get one. Actually if we haven't got anything by late January 2012 GAME IS OVER!!!

Copy that. But the device never gets older till it gets updates from the dedicated dev's who constantly develop for it, making those phones accomplish bigger tasks than the newer phones. Samsung Galaxy S is the biggest instance, which's still on the index.
Couldnt care less

What about LG optimus and optimus one and optimus v There are many devices far older than ACE, but the only problem is that Ace was never released in USA and hence we got lesser devs than those devices, hence classified as low activity
Well I dont know about the rest of the world But in the uk ace is very alive. Its still advertised on tv. 3, vodafone and carphone warehouse all use it in there adverts. Before the ace I had my ace I had an iphone and a gt540. Both ipressive devices for the time, but my ace is special. I havent loved a phone like this since my old w550. I love this phone, I adore it. And with the new software coming out its just as fast and stable as the old galaxy s. It not just a phone, its art! All who read this. . . Stop, look at your phone. Give the finger prints a wipe away. Hold it to the light and look. Now tell me its not stunning. Who cares where they put it. We love it!

still a fantastic phone with genius devs like yourself releasing roms for it... who cares where the thread is, the ace devs being around is trillion times more important then where the thread is, for me its bookmarked, and even if it aint bookmarked can still find it in the drop-down list so whats the problem?

[Q] Bootdroid dual boot ios5 and droid for galaxy s2

Just want to know if anyone else knows about this new app that is in dev at the moment.
It is a way of having a dual boot with ios5 and android
Links -
http://code.google.com/p/bootdroid/
and
http://bootdroid.blogspot.com/
As said in the other thread, Im not sure whether its a fake rip off or a real one. Apple hasn't and wouldn't give source codes for their crap.
And erm, ios would just dirty my phone
Yes, im a fanboy
I am slightly convinced that if might be real, although as said on the blog he has run into some legal problems but thinks he might have found a way around this, I am a Droid fan but this is a show off feature that would be pretty cool.

Wow it would be really nice to have ios running on my SII. i love android, but showing the fanboys that our device can do both. It's priceless. keep up the good work
im interested in this project mostly because would be nice to test performance on the s2 but then you would run into issues like their retina display, apple would never allow it since there platform is copyright, but luckily this guy is named Anonymous
heres a pic from his blog

It would be intresting to see how this would work and i think the galaxy s2 is the perfect phone to test on, but i cant see how he going to get over the legal issues.

If he could create a script or program that could take an IPSW (Firmware file) and make it "android ready" for lack of a better term, he would be completely safe. As the user would be downloading the IPSW and supplying it not him. Also the IPSW are available freely on Apple's site so they couldn't come after the users at that point at all. He just has to find a way to do that (not going to be easy).
Also iOS source is available on apple's dev site for anyone to look at it. It's just mostly copywrited (besides the BSD portions). I'm not sure if all of it's there but I have looked at some of it in the past for hints to exploits for jailbreaking.

I have some development background, and from my knowledge of iOS and ARM Devices this would be quite a task if this is what he is doing.
I really want to believe this is real but I just found a link from github by someone called Peter42 who freshly uploaded a "BootDroid" code.
Last update to his blog dated 24 March is the same date the files were uploaded.
I have a Motorola Xoom and believe I can't test them.
Could anyone (for God's sake!) confirm whether they were real or not?
If possible, I already downloaded the files and would upload them for you in case original was removed.
this should be awesome, running ios in the powerfull SII... just for shutup the izombies xP
Even better, the upcoming Galaxy SIII!
But for real, can anyone try that?
I just ran the installation process on my Motorola Xoom and didn't notice any difference like a new app nor by or through restarting.
I'm kinda hyped up on this and would love to brag about how Android is superior to iOS if it was true
I heard about this and i think the guy plans to do it by vnc so just displaying the iPhone screen over internet

I don't really know if this was the link to the program or not though it's called the same.
But as I said before, these files were uploaded the day he last updated his post.
You can download it from there.
I don't really know how this should work since it doesn't even have iOS firmware files but I figured someone with a supported device could try and see for himself.
Nothing appeared on my Xoom at all which is not supported!
And, you can uninstall it from the same installation wizard.
Hi everybody !
Sorry for my english, I'm french.
I am really interested on this application, so I wonder if somebody has already succed in make it working ?
I' ve downloaded the Zip package on the website shared on the link below, but I don't understand how to instal it...
I think that even if it's possible to run iOs and Adroid on a Iphone, it woould be difficult to do the same on a androphone beacause iOs in not an open source system ...
Can somebody help me please ?
Thanks to you guys

It`s only a word from a guy who monitors forums, he only asked us for patience, because the decision-making will take place somewhere else. You see, IF they decide to release it, they won`t pull it out of the pocket, somebody who is paid for his work would have to work on it, their devs are not hobbiests like here on xda.
So IF they decide positively, it will take some time. In case of arm7 it was like 3 months. Whish I was wrong.
is their any positive reply from qualcomm side ???

This release contains the user-mode driver binaries for Qualcomm's Adreno 2xx GPU on Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich for ARMv6 based chipsets. It has been tested with the CAF release M8960AAAAANLYA1030. Supports any Adreno 2xx GPU on Android ICS using the ARMv6 chipset (7x27). Google's libRS (LLVM) does not currently support ARMv6.

Anyway, what does "Google's libRS (LLVM) does not currently support ARMv6" means ? How much will it affect developing ? Sorry, not a dev,but just interested in it..
Do sony still care about this old device?? I hv leave my phone in drawer fot ages.....

Request for non-Samsung themed JB ROM

Hi Kazuni et al, are you developing a non-Samsung themed JB ROM for the I9305? Something like the many CM10/ParanoidAndroid ROMs that are available for the I9300? Would be great to have a "purer" ROM for this new flagship....less of the Samsung customization
This has been discussed several times before but the I9305/I9300 share most of the same components, less the radio correct? If so, would the I9300 ROMs work if they're used w/ a 9305 radio instead? So it would be an easier way to port 9300-developed ROMs over?
Would love to see this, esp if it's built on the new 4.1.2!
There are other differences as well like a different partition layout, but I guess that they might partially work if configured with a compatible layout, would likely have no sound or modem functionality without proper work, a Rom compiled for this model would be better.

I have my fingers crossed. After putting CM10 on a relatives SG3 I want in on the action bad.
I intend to jump in and have a go at CM10 for the i9305 when I receive mine this week. It will be my first attempt at a complete ROM so don't hold your breath or anything.

Don't get me wrong, but didn't you notice the big ****storm about samsung being developer unfriendly and the exynos platform being the hell on earth?
Some of our guys are very sick of samsung and are not going to touch any of the new samsung devices.
Not saying that nobody will port it, but i recommend you to sell this device as fast as possible and get a new upcoming nexus device if you really wanna run AOSP based roms.
If you like laggy and buggy AOSP roms and especially waiting for round about 6 months to get a new android version, stay on what you're currently owning.

I didn't really expect you to add something positive to this topic.!. I really hope that all of us that just got the I9503 didn't buy it for only running AOSP based roms. If that was the case I would buy the upcoming LG nexus that's NOT the case for me. And SamsungExynos posted a tweet today "full availability of integrated source code for #Exynos 4 family of processors on OrigenBoard by the end of 2012"
I wonder what will happen to all these devs that left the GS3 because of samsung not releasing the Source. And then now it looks like they will b releasing something soon, Are you all going to come back? Or just let new and upcoming devs take over. I Feel that with all sources released on this device with the Quad Core and 2gb Ram DAMMMM how smoooth will a proper built CM10 run. And to be honest My device is very smooth as it is. I am not dying for CM10 i actually like the new touchwiz, I like features and animations. And with all of that , this is still hell smooth in my opinion. Either way To me its a win win, if they release the source GREAT if not oh well still very good!!... But i do believe they will release it.

It's a exynos development board and has not much to do with samsung smartphones.
The ICS code was broken, outdated and mostly unusable on phones.
The same code is now available again.
I really don't expect a wonder.
From what andreilux has seen and stated below it does not seem like the old stuff and samsung continue to update. Last update was done earlier today here is what andreilux said in the exynos petition page in the i9300:
(They released the 5250 development board and site together with a 800 page user's manual, something which we didn't have before for any SoC. I'll have to see what they uploaded on the Git as it's quite a lot.
Edit: from what I can see at first glance they have 4.1.1 Jellybean sources up there and apparently the newest stuff.

Sorry Spaming here but a CM10 Rom for my I9305 would be realy Great.
+1 to non-Samsung-based JB rom like CM10, PA or PACman's mix of all three I'm picking up my i9305 this weekend (South Africa) and really hope that some of the big dev's take to this handset.. number of roms at current is dis-heartening :crying: :crying:

Hi codeworkx.. this is a copy of a post I made on another i9305 thread, it seems more relevant here tho..
Samsung have released the source code for the i9305.. here and I noticed it's also on Github here does this mean there's a chance of more dev's buying into this device for custom rom and kernel devving
defibitely deserves a plus one on this. cm10 porterssss please i would love to experience a proper stock jb theme

[REQUEST] Direct request to Broadcom for Ace-i's drivers

Hi to all fellow members of this device, especially to those I know and appreciate more
I just want to tell you that I'm going to make use of my corporate email to reach Broadcom and start a formal request for them to give us the drivers for the Galaxy Ace-i, also known as Cooperve. Even though many members have most probably changed their device for a better one, I still see a lot of people buying this device, especially in my country.
Through the use of many scripts created by fellow users we have been able to improve performance of this phone but not to it's full potential, this is especially due to the fact that we don't have the GPU drivers source to have a ROM properly built from scratch, just to mention one of the obstacles our devs have encountered.
This, and the fact that I have seen this device increase its sales in Chile a lot are just some of the reasons why I'm reaching directly to Broadcom to kindly request the drivers source for our device.
I hope we have a good reception on this matter and that we can get a positive response by Broadcom, that has always been by the side of the open-source, as they state.
@bieltv.3 @SpaceCaker @Lopicl.00 you guys and the BroadcomCM team have made possible a CyanogenMod for our device, I really hope we can keep counting on your awesome and willing support
Update 1
See in the attachment the email I sent to broadcom, let's hope for an answer soon :good: :highfive:
My well wishes with you .Hope something good happens !

Good luck, man!!! Maybe at the fourth time they will understand BTW Making drivers open sourced means that u ''open'' the secret of CPU/GPU etc. making, so it's not very good for them, but they wouldn't lose much. Good luck!

You're so pessimistic ...
I'm also not sitting in my chair waiting for Broadcom to release it.
I already registered on Broadcom forums to make a post showing the unfinished work by the ex-employee Nick Lambourne and the petition with more than 8000 signatures explaining why we need the drivers because the support think we want to broadcom to build us an OS update or something....
The thing is that I can't open a new thread or even post in any thread until the admin give me permission :S
I think would be "representative" if a lot of people saturate its forums asking for bcm21553 drivers (always politely and not like childs of course)

Why ask Broadcom?
Broadcom had surely give sources for Samsung drivers so that they adapt to their Gingerbread ROM, why not ask them?

It's an answer in a political way to evade a yes or a no. Largely known in Incident Management when you can't give an absolute answer to a user (due to either formalism, which is the case, or because it's not in your hands to say yes or no)
This is the "formal letter" I was thinking to post on Broadcom forums but since I still can't post on forums I will send by email (if anybody send me the email of broadcom tech support will be apreciated I don't find any email in their website)
subject: BCM21553 DRIVERS
To Broadcom Corporation.
Dear Broadcom,
I write as a representative of a group of users from XDA-Developers who have the baseband BCM21553 with the graphics accelerator VideoCoreIV GPU, and as you know BCM21553 customers had an important lack of drivers so we can't develop any custom OS for the devices that uses BCM21553.
We understand that this topic reaches over all parts of Broadcom business (legal, engineering, management, etc...) and is a slow process, but as you know a year ago Nick Lambourne <a ex-employee of Broadcom> started to work with us building an EGL library, but since he doesn't work for Broadcom anymore his work is dropped.
So we request to Broadcom to release the BCM21553 drivers, because we need to build gralloc and HGL from source since there is the only way to develop custom OS for BCM21553 devices (like Ginger Bread, Ice Cream Sandwich or even a Jelly Bean port, and also such mods like CyanogenMod and lots of other differents OS).
Also you're probably aware of the petition with more than 8,000 BCM21553 customers signs made on the famous website Change.org -see here: https://www.change.org/petitions/br...er-source-of-gpu-and-cpu-for-bcm21553-devices
I hope the amount of your customers words is taken into consideration.
My sincere thanks,

Over PM! I'll hand these to you
Update: I'm creating a ticket to my local Samsung support here in Chile, they seem to be more receptive to 'open-sourceness' lol now, I need to focus the question well, so that we can be precise on what we need... I have downloaded the source code for the Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830M from OSRC (Samsung Open Source Release Center http://opensource.samsung.com) but the listing is very confusing for me I am a developer indeed.. but I've been a good time out of the tracks, especially when it comes to C++, so I'm asking here to any of our ROM Developers (more especifically, our CM7 ROM Developers or someone from BroadcomCM team), to enlighten me on what to ask, so that my question can be well-formed and clear to the engineering team.
