Android L discussion thread - G2 General

This is for android L discussion.
Anything and everything android L can be discussed here.
Please refrain from android L talk on other threads to avoid confusion.
Please stay on topic.

I don't know how useful will be this thread, but hope that LG will update also the G2 to L ( but i ask, why it shouldn't?)
What do you think?

Considering a post was made about way before this one....

Idk only good things are art and notification bar colour

Im really looking forward for Android L based Cyanogen Mod.. Any tips when we can expect nightly?

fabioio will try to port the L http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53703092&postcount=806

I think porting from Nexus 5 will be a lot easier than some of the crazy stuff devs already did. I am confident we will get some nice roms in the coming weeks, for now I am still playing around with G3 ROM
Greetings

I can't wait for some roms to arrive. Love having the bleed immersive effect using xposed (and I like matching the colour of status bar to the nav bar too), and am really impressed with the new design. It's about time some proper consistency was brought into the look.

preparing squee.

I wonder if notification changes will appear on LG's Android L version. Right now I don't want to change my stock rom to vanilla android because of stock rom functions, but the vanilla really got prettier.

Best of both worlds?
If LG gets L on G2....it won't be until Fall I think.
Hopefully we will keep the G3-ish looks on the launcher. And the goodies from L.
To be honest, quite a few things G3 rom already have....like the bleed immerse...
We got a smart notice thing on lock screen.

I don't expect the G2 to offically get Android L at all

If the G2 doesn't get L that would mean it got about 2 months worth of updates. That would be pathetic.

It should be possible to port L over to G2 now since the Nexus 5 and G2 have very similar hardware. I'd imagine any willing dev would be able to do it very easily.

There's a .05% chance of the G2 being updated to L, 4.4.3 is more likely to be the final nail. The G3 will probably receive L after the HTC M8/M7, HTC actually made a pledge to update their phones.
Sent from my LG-D802

This is why I will never buy a LG again! the lack of updates is very disappointing. HTC have now pulled there finger out there butt's and say they will update the m8 m7 90 days after final release of L. LG have lots of catching up here in this department that's for sure.

It took the carrier G2 models forever to get 4.4. I surprised we even got it at all. For all the complaint about Samsung and other OEMs received over late updates, LG takes that much longer. It's a shame, too, because LG makes some great hardware and software. I love the UI on the G3. It's my favorite skin, but it seems LG does have a habit of not supporting their devices. They don't seem to care about the backlash either, unlike HTC. Motorola, Samsung, & HTC all changed their update habits. Why can't LG?
Sent from my VK810 4G using Tapatalk

Everything I've read in this discussion so far has been ungrounded opinions about whether we get Android L or not. I'd say it's a bit early to say, considering it was only just announced and only a preview has been released. Scepticism about even getting the update just creates doubt in peoples minds. So unless you work for LG and have inside knowledge, you're just thumb sucking, which sucks.

I dont know if LG is going to release 4.3. I think LG is just going to wait until 4.4 before providing an update. I just dont trust LG yet to provide multiple software updates because they havent built that reputation.

My amazement is the fact that you are asking to speculate on a release date for our phone, when the Version hasn't even launched yet. That's like asking the exact release date of a phone that hasn't been announced yet

I'd think that would be the smart choice for them, especially considering that the g2 is the basis for the nexus 5. I'd imagine they're developing both in parallel.

VZW for sure will be the last to get it, but on the bright side, maybe the DEV's will be able what to tell what it does to those of us that are rooted.
It seems to me that LG is very eager to ensure the success of their G2 flagship phone, especially given the fact that Samsung and HTC are now a bit behind with the hardware. LG will probably provide the KitKat in order to send a message that they can also provide timely updates, which is one of the reasons that's keeping the enthusiasts adopting their phone (and the enthusiasts are powerful marketing vectors). It would be great to have the KitKat for the G2 in the same day the Nexus 5 is lauched, it would be a very powerful marketing message from LG.
Having used the Optimus 2X for a while, I find this extremely hard to believe. The Nexus 5 reportedly has lower specs than the G2. If the G2 gets 4.4 on the same day as the Nexus 5 is out, it'd seriously hurt the sales of the N5 for Google. But of course, if this is true, it'd be incredible.
How about 4.3 now? Let alone promising 4.4 when it is not even released yet.

Why waste time on 4.3 when they are working out the kinks on 4.2 and then do a direct jump to 4.4? Personally I hope they arent wasting anything on 4.3.
Agreed 4.3 is anyway just a hogwash, i would rather take 4.4 directly(if it brings anything good to table). 4.2.2 was the last major update for me, and anyway performance has been top notch of 4.2.2.
So iron out the kinks in 4.2.2 then upgrade directly to 4.4 and then concentrate on your next flagship.
According to recent leaks, the Nexus 5 will be almost identical (hardware wise) to the international G2! LG is making the Nexus 5 so they have access to the Android 4.4 Code for sure. They may have struck some deal with Google and be able to bring 4.4 to the G2 sooner than we think!

So:
- Different display
- Different camera
- Different battery
- Probably no FM radio
- Different circuit board (given the different button placement)
What more should be different in order to qualify the Nexus 5 as "different" from the G2 (given the fact that the CPU is a common CPU which will be used by all manufacturers in their phones) ?

Taking LG history of not updating there phones add to that the carriers lack of timelynes plus the N5 is set to drop soon i highly doubt we will see 4.4 till at least Q2
Wait, it's from a PRIVATE Facebook chat? There was once LG posted that the next major update was coming to the Optimus 2X the following month. And it never did. So no, my hopes aren't high.

As said before, I think Nexus 5 will have 4.4 alone for few months, after that LG will follow.

I don't think that you even read the article, it was published on 14 Nov and discussed the claims of French carrier SFR that the LG G2 Android 4.4 KitKat update would roll out in either November or December of this year. [Info] Kit Kat Baked Coming Soon...

Hey guys,
1st off this an apology to the Galaxy Note 3 users, if you check this thread I am sorry. I didn't realize the phone would be so expensive even with the upgrade fee so luckily I was able to get this kickass device for $50, a hell of a deal considering it retails for $700. So I hope the LG G2 welcomes Team Baked and I to this device. My team leader (travp624) and I have the same phone but different carriers now. So I should be maintaining the Sprint LG G2 while he maintains the Verizon LG G2. I am in the process of building a test version of the rom, this rom is still not 100% complete but I would like to see what needs to be done with the Sprint version. Trav told me earlier today that he has no issues with SMS or Phone while using LTE on the Verizon version so fingers crossed. We probably won't release it until he says it is 100 proof and then I can only use his official build but I might run test builds ahead of time to see what features/bug fixes can be added and fixed. We took a break for a while on this rom as many of the members of the team became overloaded with time they had. So now we are slowly but surely getting this rom and team members back together. Please be patient and don't ask me to leak you a copy, you wouldn't want it until the official version anyway. The website of our team and rom and be found at http://www.bakedrom.com and I used to be a device maintainer for the Nexus S 4G.
Welcome welcome to G2, I had note 3 and I never regret switching to the G2.

It was just problematic with LCD black line issues even after a screen replacement so I was due for an upgrade since Sprint lets you upgrade early and I picked up this nice device earlier.
