Android L made you thinking about switching to Nexus 5? - G2 General

After watching thousands of videos about android L I'm really thinking about changing my G2 for Nexus 5. Maybe because I had nexus 4 and maybe because of so many developers, I dont know. Anyone else ?

I don't care about android L and for me G2 is still better choice

No thanks. We'll have Android L soon anyway either through the upcoming port OCEANDEV and Co is working on or through CM

I did switch, returning my N5 tomorrow, its not worth the battery sacrifice. That and L is way, way to buggy. While i was using the N5 i went back to 4.4.4, L is that unusable as it is now.

Got N5 here dual booting L
anyone in the uk/london area wants to swap?
edit.. phrase went badly wrong lol

Hmm well that'd be an argument from the other side. Thanks for your input. I, for one, love my g2. N5 is lame sauce!

We are gonna get L soon anyway, why sacrifice amazing 4k camera and massive battery just to get android a month or two earlier than the rest of people on xda, and those people who actually wait for carrier updates. They would probably get L 6 months later, if they ever do get it. (Not counting HTC)

I don't know or it still exists but i also read that LG G2 Official cm11 builds had Lagg because of some outdated thing and those kind of things but it got fixed on unofficial builds right? Also the official bug list god.

I hope they will fix the things in cm12 but else the awesome devs here will fix those problems:victory:

Best case i got was 4hours screen on time on about 17 hours total time. Which is a good 50% less than the g2 on a bad day.
Not saying this is what everyone will get, but for me that is the case.

Yeah I know, G2 has amazing camera and battery but on the other hand, my previous phone was nexus 4 with LOT of development and I'm kinda used to have all the latest builds

To have it earlier? No way.. thats not even a valid reason to switch the better G2 for an N5 (the N5 is great too, no doubt, but the G2 has better battery and camera - for me).
We'll have Android L sooner or later too, so.. just patience and its fine

Mine previous phone was also the N4 but the reason i quitted was that there were too many roms like on the N5 which all are just looking AOSP so no thanks. You can go to the N5 if you really want much development but the g2 also got already much development. Else when we figured out the black vertical lines issue and when i will receive my G2 then i will try to make a Port guide how to port the roms just like Porting nexus 4 roms to optimus g:laugh:

Switching to another phone possibly from LGOG =(

I loved this phone is did a lot of research and reviewed videos on this phone before I got it and it looked beast. I'm disappointed that there is SO LITTLE development with this phone, I'm thinking about switching to a more popular phone that everyone actually knows and cares to build roms for and support I really like this phone ,but again it just needs way more attention for me. Anyone else feels this way?

Patience is key. You can't force a dev to make a ROM or "develop" for a device. They have lives as well. Everything is pretty close to being here.
Besides if your not likening the "Development" you can always try and make a ROM buddy. Then maybe you can see how its not done overnight.

How can you call the Free Gee project and the N4 conversion and such slow development? /boggle

Btw I came to this phone from the sgs3. A huge dev section isn't the only thing to base buying a phone.on. this phone has some sweet hardware. Excellent build quality, and awesome speed. I'm in love.
@Phonephan, I totally hear where you're coming from. I would have hoped for more options by now as well, but I knew what I was getting into when I picked this bad boy up and that there was the chance its potential would go unrealized. However, Rome wasn't built in a day and there have been some unique challenges that some very good developers are about to overcome. Our empire is about to be built! We've already got a solid JB build that doesn't require conversion thanks to SnowLeopardJB. There are a couple solid ICS ROM's as well (shout out to team nocturnal, nygfan, etc.) The real treats are just around the corner and if you check in to the irc chat room you will see just how close. Hang in there bro, you'll be glad you did.

Funny to think that just a few years ago modifying the OS on your phone was not an option. Now folks cry when they don't have 100 variations of the same base rom within a week or two.
Maybe buy a device you like next time. Or wait longer and not buy the device on launch day, that way you can give the dev community time to work thereby ensuring you get an active community to take care of your flashing fix.
Why exactly do you feel the need to tell us that you're leaving? Did you do any development? Write any documentation? Are you afraid we wouldn't notice you were gone?
Sent from my LG-E970
Seriously!? We have an ICS phone that developers have transformed into an upgraded nexus 4. Other developers have domesticated foreign JB Roms so well that this phone has every feature enabled today. We may only have a few topics... But major progress happens in them. This is the height of Android options with native pure Google and branded on the most recent versions.
You can install Roms from 3 forums onto this phone... US OG, Intl OG and N4.
The conversion will really pay off in six months when this is the first device with SD card and full android 5 while every other phone has gmail 5... Converted to 4.1

Okay...
Didn't see that coming. If you look at my post I said I'm possibly getting a new phone not telling you I am and I was asking people if they felt the same. Also it's been months since its release so the fact that it's only 2 real ROMs for this phone makes me upset no, disrespect to devs obviously but it does seem like this phone is getting like no attention and it's one if the best phones out. Converting to n4 is a bit too much just to enjoy this phone. This phone was meant to be an LGOG not a nexus ..it would have been named nexus
Anyways that was just a thought/concern I had about the phone.. Don't see why people are offended?
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
Nobody bothered to develop ICS Roms other than pretty much stock based ones since we were promised Jelly Bean so early and obviously that didn't happen. Once Jelly Bean gets officially released, I know the devs will be all over it and Roms won't be an issue. The nexus 4 conversion is easy to do, I did it intoxicated twice. So either do that or just be patient. We're just waiting on AT&T now

To be honest, i'll rather stay on cyanogenmod or pacman even if its jellybean than kitkat stock without the extra stuff.
I still have a hard time understanding why Nexus 4 got it before G2 because Nexus 5 is basicly same hardware as G2, but it doesnt bother me so much.

Because everyone in the Paranoid Android team owns a Nexus 4 and all has bought the Nexus 5. Pretty sure lots of them own the Nexus tablets also.
Honestly, I tried Kit Kat on my Galaxy Nexus and I don ´t know what to think about. Yeah it is faster, but LG G2 is fast anyway. Can ´t find anything which would be esential.
I hope that at least battery will improve. Otherwise it´s not big deal.

For me it doesnt matter if its a nexus or not i flash a custom rom anyways, and in this case the g2 hardware is better than n5 with the same software i see no reason to get n5 besides the price if you live in a country where playstore devices are available.

This phone is new and will take a while for development
As for the s3,the device may have cm11 but it has plenty of bugs because of exnyos

As for the Galaxies, they have been out longer, have a wider breadth of developers so more people have eyes on it, more people familiar with the kernel etc. Also, the Nexus 5 is different enough from the G2 that I really don't think we're going to see simply ports to our hardware. Just like the Optimus G and Nexus 4.
If you want a Nexus-like experience, get a Nexus. Simple as that.

Not just sad, but unbelievable. Guess we need to gift a LG G2 32gb to a Cm developer.
I think its possible to compile CM11 with what is currently available. I'll try and setup my build environment later this evening. I'll give it a shot. Bugs guaranteed but ... we need more bleeding edge stuff for this phone to attract more recognised devs to develop for this device.
Its people like these impatient dou***bags that make devs not want to build for us..if you want it go build it yourself and stop trolling this isn't Google+. If you want to troll do it there like everyone else.

[Q] Is Quincyatt (I717) Further Development Stopped/delayed/suspended ?

(Cross post from forum.cyanogenmod.com)
Hi everyone,
I wonder if there any plans to support ATT version of Galaxy Note ?
all recent updates are minor and I don't have any hope that CM10.2 (not even mentioning CM11) will be ported to it which is kind of sad.
I understand that there are some issues with stability and drivers. Does that mean I need to get other hardware to continue using CM ?
Due to all those problems I switched back to stock image and not happy with it, but it is damn stable ((
Thanks for any update from the team.

so what i am reading here is you have 6 posts. i understand that you cannot post in development yet, but that does not slow you from reading.
i am not a technical brainchild and lack the ability to understand some of the terminology, so you will have to give me a little leeway.
development may have appeared to have slowed, but take into consideration the age of our device and the rate manufacturers are producing devices. we may not ever get another official upgrade for our Note, but my phone has ran better in the last few months than previous 8 months. there are some brilliant folks out there working selflessly for us. you may not find much in the straight CM development department, but since release of 10.2/ 4.3 roms, it is much more stable than 4.2 ever was. it runs smooth and effortless with none of the random reboots which plagued 4.2.
now we have quickly bumped to the 4.4 development which is still in its infancy. give it time. there are 2 Alpha/Preview releases right now, with at least another in the works that i know of. my guess is someone will have a Beta or full release by the end of the week at the rate these guys go. cant hold me to it as i am just a recipient who benefits from their deeds. that's just my guess from what i see as far as their work pace.
so excuse me now, i have to put some Kit Kat 4.4 on my phone, which has only been approval to run official 4.1.2 JB.
i am sure this is going to prove to be a good conversation starter here. thank you

I'm sure there are brilliant people in CM team and they are doing amazing job, this is doubtless.
This is the only reason I'm trying to get back to CM world and get any word on further development.
My only source of information on the releases are:

https://github.com/CyanogenMod/hudson/blob/master/cm-build-targets
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=quincyatt&type=
and xda of course
First three show very little progress on this particular device. I'm not complaining, but just trying to understand current state of I717 support.
In comparison with I717 twin - N9000, we get less updates.
I saw 10.2 builds in XDA forum threads, but I consider them as unofficial builds, and I know nothing about them, how well they are performing, etc. I will try them for sure, thanks for pointing that out.
All my question is about is future support of this hardware, should I think about upgrade or just give up and use stock ...

as i said take the tour, take some roms for a test drive. i don't know what you consider your experience level is........
everything runs a bit different on everybodys phone. for example, the Carbon rom has lots of cool features, but it just doesn't seem to want to work on my phone. i just don't want you to label all roms on the basis of one. Hellybean runs great on my phone. there are some here that wont give a phone or rom time to settle in. they make so many tweaks and adjustments in a rapid amount of time, they don't know if there adjustments actually did anything.
so be patient......if its not compatible for your phone, you will probably know right away. if it works, give it some time. there are good and helpful people here. just try and help yourself first and read.
getting ready to slam some Kit Kat on my phone right now with Jaime's CM11 preview 4.
As cyanogenmod seems to have dropped us for 10.2, we are unlikely to see official CM11 support. Our hope for further development lies in unofficial builds from Jamie and Patch who have been kind enough to build from source and share their talents with us.
Normally, I would accept that, at some point, you have to stop beating a dead horse. It's unrealistic to expect a 2 year old device to be supported with the latest and greatest - especially in an environment like Android which seems to have such a quick cycle.
The alpha builds, however, have proven to be more stable on my device than anything 4.2 or 4.3. My question is whether or not we will see some important functionality (like TTS and video camera) restored on OUR device if it is not being supported by CM officially?

You have a good point, at least 4.4 will probably run better than any other 4.x before it

All 4.4 Roms right now are pretty much the same aosp 4.4, no rush on getting things rolling till things change and merge

So it would be better to get some of popular devices and use it, because "million flies can not be wrong" ?

More devices in hand means more users and devs, dunno why that's hard to understand

oh, no, don't get me wrong, I do understand that.
What I'm also trying to understand what would be a better strategy to have decent device with enough attention from developers...
There should be some balance here, since advanced devices are good in performance, but expensive and not widely used.

Personally, I'm loving the AOSP feel of 4.4 in a way that I have never really cared for it in Android versions prior. The way Google now is integrated into the GEL is how I would use Nova Launcher to setup previous versions.
With it's super stability, I am really praying that you give us something akin to your Nexus or Evervolv roms...Hell if we can just get working TTS and Video camera on top of what you've given us with your alpha, I'm done...............
.......until my next phone.

What are you talking about? What strategy? What balance?
Devs are also users. Almost all of the devs work on the devices that they own. We may not have the quantity of devs for other devices, but we definitely have quality devs. I also have GTab 2, and LG Optimus and Galaxy S2 LTE, which I manage for my family. Some have very active devs, some don't, but they all have good devs.
I don't know what you mean by "enough attention from developers", but we are getting plenty from our devs even if we don't deserve them. Whatever we are getting beyond the official 4.1.2 is all gravy. Jamie's CM11 preview is running awesome, and I haven't tried Patch's 4.4 rom, but I expect the same.
What more are you asking for?

Android L discussion thread

This is for android L discussion.
Anything and everything android L can be discussed here.
Please refrain from android L talk on other threads to avoid confusion.
Please stay on topic.
I don't know how useful will be this thread, but hope that LG will update also the G2 to L ( but i ask, why it shouldn't?)
What do you think?
Considering a post was made about way before this one....
Idk only good things are art and notification bar colour
Im really looking forward for Android L based Cyanogen Mod.. Any tips when we can expect nightly?
fabioio will try to port the L http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53703092&postcount=806
I think porting from Nexus 5 will be a lot easier than some of the crazy stuff devs already did. I am confident we will get some nice roms in the coming weeks, for now I am still playing around with G3 ROM
Greetings
I can't wait for some roms to arrive. Love having the bleed immersive effect using xposed (and I like matching the colour of status bar to the nav bar too), and am really impressed with the new design. It's about time some proper consistency was brought into the look.

preparing squee.
I wonder if notification changes will appear on LG's Android L version. Right now I don't want to change my stock rom to vanilla android because of stock rom functions, but the vanilla really got prettier.
Best of both worlds?
If LG gets L on G2....it won't be until Fall I think.
Hopefully we will keep the G3-ish looks on the launcher. And the goodies from L.
To be honest, quite a few things G3 rom already have....like the bleed immerse...
We got a smart notice thing on lock screen.
I don't expect the G2 to offically get Android L at all
If the G2 doesn't get L that would mean it got about 2 months worth of updates. That would be pathetic.

It should be possible to port L over to G2 now since the Nexus 5 and G2 have very similar hardware. I'd imagine any willing dev would be able to do it very easily.

There's a .05% chance of the G2 being updated to L, 4.4.3 is more likely to be the final nail. The G3 will probably receive L after the HTC M8/M7, HTC actually made a pledge to update their phones.
Sent from my LG-D802
This is why I will never buy a LG again! the lack of updates is very disappointing. HTC have now pulled there finger out there butt's and say they will update the m8 m7 90 days after final release of L. LG have lots of catching up here in this department that's for sure.
It took the carrier G2 models forever to get 4.4. I surprised we even got it at all. For all the complaint about Samsung and other OEMs received over late updates, LG takes that much longer. It's a shame, too, because LG makes some great hardware and software. I love the UI on the G3. It's my favorite skin, but it seems LG does have a habit of not supporting their devices. They don't seem to care about the backlash either, unlike HTC. Motorola, Samsung, & HTC all changed their update habits. Why can't LG?
Sent from my VK810 4G using Tapatalk
Everything I've read in this discussion so far has been ungrounded opinions about whether we get Android L or not. I'd say it's a bit early to say, considering it was only just announced and only a preview has been released. Scepticism about even getting the update just creates doubt in peoples minds. So unless you work for LG and have inside knowledge, you're just thumb sucking, which sucks.
