[Q] Flickering on screen - Moto E Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got my Moto E 2 days back.
Today I noticed, when I looked at the screen very closely, I could see a light flickering.
How do I explain it? Horizontal lines going up-down.
It's not visible to the naked eye in normal usage, but when I looked closely, I could see it.
Could the display be faulty? Could it cause problems in future?

No such problem in my case..

yes i also noticed that on first day itself when i went to shopping mall. i have noticed that there are vertical lines.but thats not a problem.I think all the moto e's have this issue...dont panic bro...

Hi,
Maybe we are having the same issue - can you please check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e/help/rainbow-screen-t2833166
and say if your display looks the same as mine?

Lucky you, i have a "dead pixel", green one.
And a yellowspot in the rightbottom corner, but that'll fade over time. (i hope)
I'm glad that the screen has a very high resolution, it's really hard to even notice the dead pixel.
I have noticed a yellowish tinge at the bottom of the display. Only really notice it when there is a white background. Is it likely that the display is somehow faulty??

I have the exact same, a yellowish spot in the bottom right corner.
I hoped it was the same problem as the iphone or SGS2.
They say the yellowspot is from the glue that they use to stick the screenlayers together, but it needs time to vaporise and should go away over time.
But I have my phone now almost a week and i still get the spot back now and then.

I've the same problem. I checked with service centre and they say it's software issues, which I can't believe.

Lol software problem :')
Sounds like bull**** to me.
I had contact with T-Mobile today, about the dead pixel and yellowspot.
The guy told me he's going to get information for me, and see if they can replace it. he'll send me an email later.
Same hear.
Barely visible yellowish (only on whites) at the bottom part of the screen.
It varies depending on the view angle.
Perfect screen here

Lucky you! I'm still waiting for update from Sony! Will see if they can replace the unit.
I also noticed that at times the yellowish spot disappears and appears back again! I wonder what it could be!!

Ah you are the guy from the T-Mobile forum (Hiraj) with 5 dead pixels.
Anyway they told me it's in stock again next week (Monday 19th)
Just noticed that my screen keeps flickering, this is more noticeable on white backgrounds, is this normal as in the auto brightness or should I be worried?

Hi guys just wanna update you regarding screen issues.
I've spoken with people on the forum of my country, other 2 guys with Xperia S and both of them got that really barely visible yellow tint on the bottom part of the screen (also, one of these guys has 2 Xperia S -him and his brother- and both of them have that tint).
Really difficult to explain it on forums (nothing compared to the GS2 yellow tint) because it's really hard to see and only visible on white/clear colors uniform backgrounds, but according to what I'm seeing it's a common issue, not a problem of a single faulty unit.
Got a blue/whiteisch pixel to the top right of my screen
They said i need to have more then 3 to get a new phone :/`
Can i fix this ?

I have the problem too. I called technical team dept from where i bought the phone, and they asked me to do a screen test over the phone. I tap the screen it shows all white, tap again red, green etc etc. He asked me if i could see a yellowish tinge running across the bottom of the display when these colours appeared on the display which i couldn't to be honest. I took it back to the shop, and i dont know if it has to do with the bright lighting within the store, but it didn't show up hardly at all, barely noticeable. It seems less noticeable in a well lit environment, or outside as opposed to when i am at home where it i notice it more. It is midly annoying, but this shouldn't be the case.
Can anyone throw any light as to what this could be??
Thanks

I believe that yellowish tint has something to do with warmth from the screen or the battery or the screen staying on for a longer time or something or something.
because when I'm using it alot, playing games, browsing, whatsapp etc etc. for like an hour. It gets more visible.
And then it's from "barely noticeable" to "hard to miss"
I can clearly see it on Grey (notification slide down) or Blue (startscreen DrawSomething) or White.

Same here. Interesting what you say. I would still like to know where the consumer stands on this issue, and if Sony themselves would recogonise if this is a somehow a fault with the display. My Arc had no such problems.
Hi guys,
I'm new here, but I was reading the threads on the S from the start.
Reading through the screen problems I was thinking about the following:
The Xperia S's screen is glued- as I know -, like for example the iPhone4/4s'. Some i4 users noticed this yellowish tint as well, and they've came to a conclusion it was because of the glue what was used to put the screens together and it disappeared after about 1,5-2 weeks.
This could explain the reaction to temperature differences too.

Black spots/ink marks

Hi!
Got my S3 few days ago, and already in first evening noticed annoying black spots in bottom of screen. At first thought that I broken it, but searching found many threads about this issue.
As i understand practically everyone has them, there's just difference in quantity.
I took picture of my screen displaying black screen in dark:
i.imgur.com/QYZEI.jpg (add http, as i cant submit links, i'm new here
What do you think? Guy at shop said that this is normal amoled issue.
I wouldn't mind about little spots, as i cant really see them, but those lines on right are really visible when watching videos in dark, even in not complete darkness, and is really annoying.

I would say exchange it. I have this issue too but only visible when I'm in very dark environment lighting. And it only visible when im running gray background too. I have 2 ink mark visible to eyes and 3 very small one which have to squint my eyes.

I think you'd be lucky if they changed it. I've seen much worse - mine, for example. Unless you always use your phone in the dark I wouldn't worry IIWY.
Saw some pictures with muck less spots, so i thought that mine has lot.
I guess the I'll have to live with it.
Although this doesn't seem normal if you take into account price tag of this phone.
This seems to be common issue with phones using the amoled display. As long as it doesnt cause problems during normal usage of the phone, it will most likely not get replaced. There is a very high possibility that the replacement will also have the same issue.
Yours are fine, I've seen worse from my friends S3.
I would rather having this problem over black crush/pixelation. Driving me crazy. Hopefully it'll be fixed by software update since screen filter app's able to solve it.

Black Spots on S3
I use S3 for 8 months and black spots on the screen increases ....

screen flickers with lines of . . . . . . randomly.

anyone else seen their phones just start showing lines of dots across the screen randomly, particularly under high brightness? nothing funky is turned on in developer's settings so I doubt it's software.
I'm using autobrightness, it bothers me a little. hardware problem ythink? should I take it to Sony?

You're seeing the touch sensors that are built in to the screen. I've seen them on every capacitive LCD phone I've had at times, but they are definitely more noticeable on the Z2. Exchanging it won't help, sorry.

well if it's nothing to worry about, it's all good.
Seen the exact same thing on mine. Even when it's not that bright you can clearly see the digitizer (is that right?). it's that visible you can see it's made up of columns of tiny rectangles. It's worse on a dark background or when the screen is off. And those dots appear more when direct sunlight hits the screen. Luckily it's not just me either then, thought I'd got a duff phone!
Should have seen the z1 digitizer, crazy amount of zigzag lines all over the place.

same thing w/ z ultra
Z2 screen flicker with vertical lines
I think I have the same problem with my new xperia z2 phone.
It happens several times per day (more than 10 times). The screen shows vertical lines, across the screen. I can see the pixels in the line. Also the colors change. All this for less than a second and then everything return to normal.
I wondering if this is a hardware or software problem, and if it can be fixed or no.
Thanks
Same story on my Z (6603), been an issue since day 1, under sunlight its annoying but not much u can do nor nothing to stress about

Yellowish screen of moto e ??

I got my moto e today.. & first thing I noticed was its slightly yellowish screen.
On viewing the screens from different angles , its screen appears blue ,white, dark. But on viewing it from front, it appears slightly yellowish which is highly noticeable in case of texts with white background.
Is this normal ??
I had earlier used galaxy Y & xolo q500 that had no such issue.

It seems you have some display problem, kindly return to flipkart and get a new one
The screen has warmer colours compared to other devices, but not outright yellow. Also the viewing angles are not great. But there's no colour inversion that you seem to have.. Must be a defective piece.

Me too has same problem
hi
i too seems to be same problem, i was able identify the problem my matching the display with my brother moto e,
there is a great difference if you compare side 2 side the moto e,
my brother moto e is sparking white screen, while my one has yellow tint,
what are you going to do? are you gettting is replaced, though it not causing any problem, but still the display yellowish,
i guess these are problems present in iphones also, but they say, this is caused due to glue of screen, and will subside once you start using the device, i am using it since one week, it hasnt subsided yey

Hi guys,

I have a similar problem on my xz1 blue buyed from Amazon.
I have return the xz1 blue and I bought the black color that currently has no problems.
In blue color I also had touch problems
Well that sucks! So you are saying its a problem with the blue color! I'm just gonna send it back to Amazon and get the XZ1 Compact instead.

I believe that some of XZ1 screen does suffer from serious issues for me it was yellowish screen and now this, I think Sony should check what they are selling
Guess what! Just received XZ1 compact in blue color and that phone has the exact same problem! Sony is using some low quality screens on these two phones! The XZ premium I had got zero problems! So disappointed...

Guys I have this exact problem on my X compact
Im not sure about what you said about gliding up and down,
Ive been using my phone for more than a year now and never seen this problem untill today
The exact horizontal lines showed up when the phone was on charging and then faded out after some minutes
Any ideas?
I have the exact same issue currently toying the idea of getting rid of it because it's only 3 weeks old *sigh*
Hi got the same issue, is this common or
I have the same issue. It happens every single day and almost every time I push down on the screen. Please report this to Sony Customer Support; it seems to be a widespread issue. I will link this forum post in my report to them. Do the same in your ticket please.
i have noticed this issue on my phone in the first 2 weeks, but after that it's gone. The issue was also temporarily solved by restarting the phone.
Mine seems to be worse when the phone is cold

Do you also see a grid all over the screen?
Yes. Looks like we can see digitizer, this grey lines... but if you mean pixel location as,, grid'' then no.
Does anyone knows if there are many manufacturer for xz1 screen ?
As said in other thread, I personnaly do not have this on mine but had this on one of my previous xz5.
If there is different screen... How to check/determine which one is to share with potential buyers ?
I have not seen this problem. I have a black XZ1 dual with a glass screen protector on it.
I have had every color of the XZ1 and I never saw the issue. One of my phones had a weird ghost touch problem so I returned that one but over all they have been fairly problem free.
I unlocked bootloader and have same problem.
Will sony fix it free?
