Wireless slim hard case - G3 Accessories

Just to let you know that the official LG slim hard case/battery plate that has wireless charging makes the phone slightly bigger so cases like Spiegen won't fit. I bought one for my Korean F400k to get wireless charging and now I can't put my Slim Armour case back on. And this is the non bumper variation of the two backplate covers LG makes which I wrongly assumed would be a straight replacement of the existing backplate. Notwithstanding, it is pretty nice as it gives the phone a much better textured grip...but not much by way of drop protection.
One more thing, you can forget using the Nexus wireless charger (the little square one): the phone keeps telling you to move it to the hotspot, no matter how you position it. The Nokia upright charger works fine though.

Seems like even official charger also have Hot Zone issue. It might be a software bug from LG... very strange.

Wireless Charging for Note 3?

Hey guys,
I am new to wireless charging and one of my colleague talks highly positive of the concept. Specially when at night, how easy it is to pick up the phone from the charging pad, surf for a while and put it back without the hassle of looking for the wire and plugging into the ports.
I have a note 3.. and planning to go for a sgp neo hybrid case.. will i be able to make use of the charging pad along with the neo hybrid case. I do understand that a custom case cover is needed for using the wireless charging kit.. which is provided by samsung for S4. but i think they still havent come up for N3.
Anyhow i've seen on various youtube videos that many a times third party cases also work with wirelss charging without the mod/hack. Anyone tried neo hybrid for n3 with their charging pads?
I have tested this with 3 different cases except the Spigen because I haven't received it yet but I don't think that this case will be the exception

Thanks for your reply, but what was the outcome? were u able to charge with the third party cases? Are the charging times same.. slower or faster.
With Samsung charging kit that includes the back cover and the pad, they claim that the charging is faster than conventional charging cos it charges at 600MAh's.
M8 QI has sensor at least my pad has so if it beeps and light goes green in pad no matter if I have the phone naked or in a case it charges with 640ma this charge my phone in 4 to 5 hours which occurs every night and I am fine. Imagine that I had put a plastic cap in bottom of phone to have the usb3 plug clean from dust.

Jerry thanks for your response and your the discount code. i will start reading the pros and cons of the charger.
Can you try to upload some pictures etc.. i like the 45 degree slant.. its like a dock.. that charges wirelessly.. instead of placing on a pad. Good stuff.
Pls try to put some reviews. If you can today i will place the order tonight.
The 45 degree needs inside the back cover I think 4 metal things and the base has magnets and that's how it stands. I have this http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=360732881624&globalID=EBAY-AU and is working fine, I had post a video also in the 1st wireless thread here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LaQQnc2dmU&feature=youtube_gdata_player that I demonstrate it

That's just your standard Qi charging pad. Won't work with your N3 unless you have the 'official' Samsung charging back plate, or you modify a receiver between your stock back plate, and battery.
In my experience,
With the samsung charging back plate, none of the standard N3 cases will fit on the phone anymore. It's because the back plate is thicker than the stock one.
With a receiver installed between the stock back plate and battery, it will bulge out. I don't like that either.

Another thing, the charger is a 1Amp charger, i believe for the N3 you need atleast 2Amp.

I am not sure if the N3 and S4 use the same charging technology, cos in this video below the guy is charging a S4 on the TYLT
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5g2rVraB1g
The thing i like about tylt is that it has three coils for charging unlike one for others, where u dont have to find the sweet spot... and lay your phone to pickup the right spot for charging.. demo on this video

What I was trying to clarify, that even if you bought that charging stand, you'll need the wireless receiver on the phone itself.
That didn't seem clear to everyone on this thread.

That's only if you have the official Samsung charging back installed.
See this link;

The Note 3 does not support wireless charging unless you buy that back, or a receiver that goes between the battery and stock back plate.

Thanks for all the links.
I guess i understand about the receiver now. Just read the whole wireless charging thread on this section.
This is totally new to me, hence the confusion... the back cover you mentioned.. does it add bulk to the phone.. as in thickness?
Is there a way a single coil or some chip can be added to the current phone cover. I have verizon model.

Yes, the samsung wireless charging cover is thicker. Will add 2mm, therefore, all your cases won't fit. Including the Neo Hybrid.
You can get receiver that goes between the battery and cover, but from my experience, it makes the rear cover bulge a bit.

1) Samsung has a wireless charging back (wireless receiver built-in) that replaces the battery cover/back already on the phone.
It makes the phone too thick for a case (a bumper might work).
2) They also make a S-view flip cover that replaces the stock back and has the wireless receiver built-in, no additional case needed.
3) Aftermarket Qi receivers can be purchased on Amazon and eBay that are placed inside the stock back cover, and if they don't cause a significant bulge in the back you can use a normal case, but one with a TPU or silicone back is most likely to work.
4) If you have a Qi receiver from a Note 2 (or similar) you can modify it to work inside the stock back cover.
ALL of those methods will require a Qi transmitter, or charging pad.
At least one seller on Amazon is offering a kit with both the Qi insert & charging pad, about $30 when I last looked.

Adding the official samsung back cover with 2mm is not a big issue, but i dont wan to loose the phone protection without a neo hybrid.

I was looking at the video again, it doesnt look like attaching the receiver on your original cover has added any bulk or thickness right? Do you think it will fit the neo hybrid case.
Amazon has these receivers for 10 bucks or so.. i was planning to get one of these receivers and then get the TYLT pad for charging.. I was reading reviews accross various forums, and people are having high opinions about TYLT's features.

The cheap one may have been from eBay, or it's gone up.
Best price I see for a kit now is $48, http://www.amazon.com/Standard-Wire..._1_3?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1382047175&sr=1-3
There is a $10 qi insert:
http://www.amazon.com/Docooler-Stan...1382048041&sr=1-19&keywords=note+3+qi+charger
plus a $20 charging pad:
http://www.amazon.com/DigiYes®-Stan...1382048041&sr=1-23&keywords=note+3+qi+charger
By the way, I ordered an insert from that seller, it said "in stock" but the expected delivery time was 24 to 43 days once I got the order in. It does seem like you should know that before ordering.

My knockoff LG Circle Case (looks OEM)

Just thought I would post this up for people who want an official LG circle case but don't want to spend the money LG is asking. I got this case from a China dealer on eBay. Case came in LG packaging and all. It does not have the NFC or wireless charging stickers but I just removed the one from my stock back and placed in this one. The only issue I had was in the flap of the case there is supposed to be a small magnet that makes the device sleep and wake when closed or open. There instead was a small piece of metal , no magnet. I was easily able to peel the case apart just enough to remove it and add my own small magnet . I'll add a dab of super glue later just to make sure it stays in place but you cannot tell it's ever been peeled back from just looking at it. Anyways on to the pics!
Do you have a link for the seller?
Thanks
--LG G3--
Looks the same as the one on dxbox ! Made in china but not so bad.

My Case
Hey I noticed that you guys were talking about this case. Now here's the weird thing, you guys are saying that your's didn't come with the magnet, but I bought it from the exact same seller and the exact same item a while ago but mine came with a magnet. .
The whole quick circle thing works as well. But there are other problems with this case that make me really don't like it. Biggest one is that the flap just bounces up instead of actually sitting on the phone. It will not stay closed, I tried to fix it by putting my phone face down over night so that it would just stay like that but it didn't really work. Another small problem is that the circle cutout is too small and of centered. It's naturally to much to the right and since it's too small you can't see the little circle animation.
New Case
Hey I was looking around and I found this youtube video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuoy3418sWQ
It compare their product (the blue one) to another (pink one). The pink one seems to suffer from the exact same problems that the one from this ebay seller has. It led me to believe that it's most likely the same case that I purchased. It doesn't close naturally and as you can see the quick circle ring animation is only visible on the right side. Like I mentioned in my previous posts these were things that I really hated. Now this case also has wireless charging and NFC. And it looks OEM as well. I couldn't find where to buy it but I found it while looking around and noticed that this was the same website and seller that other people were trying to buy wireless charging tags from.
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/NeWi...timus-G3-Leather-Case-Leather/1982067236.html
I bet this is the same product in the video. I think that I'm gonna go ahead and buy this. Now the problem is that I have an At&t model so I know that it won't work with wireless charging but I don't see why NFC wouldn't. It's only like 2 bucks more than the eBay one.
In all honesty I couldn't care less about wireless charging I'm just looking for an OEM look of a quick circle case that replaces the back cover. And this fits all of the criteria and is less than 10$.

I received my case yesterday and I'm very happy with it. It looks and feels like the OEM case. It's very high quality and doesn't add too much bulk to the phone. As you've said, the "circle" animation is only seen on the right side of screen, but I can live with that. Maybe it will show the full circular animation when the case is a little more broken in? I don't use NFC or wireless charging, so I don't care much about that. There is a cutout for the antenna, but again, that doesn't bother me too much. I also have the gold version of the G3 and the case is a pretty similar color, but not spot on. Close enough for me.
For those looking for a solid case with huge savings, I bought my case from the link below.

Wireless Charging Back Cover

Black one in stock now: http://www.mobilefun.com/47945-official-samsung-galaxy-alpha-qi-wireless-charging-cover-black.htm
White one on preorder: http://www.mobilefun.com/47948-official-samsung-galaxy-alpha-qi-wireless-charging-cover-white.htm
For wireless charging how does this exactly work?
It works by induction. You need a special charging station (read: a square box that is resting on your nightstand from now on), where you can put your phone on. You don't have to fiddle with plugs.
The charging station works with a standard USB connection and for your phone you need the above mentioned back cover, with is a complete replacement for the existing backplate. The special back cover contains all the electronics and contact pins to connect with the phones battery.

Of course, they have to place the coil somewhere, it's just a sacrifice you have to make for having the convenience. Also most flexable rubber/silicone cases do work because they stretch (I just prefer to go without them for the sake of ruining the design of the phone).
It should be arriving here by end of week and I'll be sure to take a few pics for you guys.
FYI, I have purchased a wireless charging back for every single Samsung device I have ever owned so I have plenty of experience (S3, S4, Note 3, and currently S5)
I was running the wireless charging back on my LG G3 so I have some experience as well. That back only added 1 millimeter to the thickness...I measured it. Just better design. I have the alpha and I'm currently testing next to the iPhone 6. Liking both phones alot. Need to test battery life

The most disappointing thing about the wireless charging back cover, other than its extra thickness which makes it less flush, is on the standard cover, the SAMSUNG logo is shiny and embossed, giving the same effect as the metallic edging. On the wireless charging cover, its matte and flat like a cheap tacky plastic print. Not at all in-keeping with the quality of the rest of the phone.

Hmm this is quite strange, usually Samsung does not cheap out on those wireless charging back covers and try to make it as identical to original as possible (at least on all the models I've used them on). Perhaps they didn't spend as much into this one due to the lack of popularity/demand for this device. Still surprises me though, it should cost cheaper in that case as well.
@jerflash: Actually on the S5 the gain in thickness is almost not noticeable. My dad uses one and switched backcovers and you don't see it.
Inductive coils are super thin copperwires that need next to no room for themselves.
I bought one of these for my note 3 and even though it did give it some weight and thickness, the battery cover was thick enough that the camera lens would not come in contact when places on a flat surface which was nice.

That is the wireless charging cover of the Alpha right? Can you tell me if it has magnets in it for alignment? I'm trying to build a car dock with magnetic attachment like the Nexus 5 and wonder if this cover for the Alpha would let me do that.

Of course, they have to place the coil somewhere, it's just a sacrifice you have to make for having the convenience. Also most flexable rubber/silicone cases do work because they stretch (I just prefer to go without them for the sake of ruining the design of the phone).

And/or would you know the answer to my question?
Is anyone using the qi cover with thr Alpha?

I am. As far as am aware there are no magnets in the cover but a metal plate is there.

And it works? I emailed Samsung and they told me there are no qi chafgers that work with the Alpha. If youre saying it works I might actually buy it and build a magnetic charger for it so I can dock in my car. Thanks!
They also confirmed thr Alpha has OIS.

It definitely works (using it daily at work) so whoever you talked to has no idea what they're talking about. Wouldn't be the first time honestly.
That wireless charging cover looks super ugly and so doesn't fit the amazing design of the rest of the pone. Not sure what Samsung was thinking when making such a poor looking charging cover.

Thay confirmed OIS,i try to find out anywhere this info but I only find in one US site nowhere else
is it possable that Alpha has OIS
Can you shere this info with us m8
Could you please tell me whether the extra thickness of the cover makes it impossible to fit a case over it? I have in mind a flip case.
Samsung do not yet list a wireless charging back on their web site for the Galaxy Alpha. I wonder if this is a picture of the back for the bigger battery.
I got my official wireless charging back. Unfortunately, it does make the phone slightly thicker which means cases are not going to fit over it. I tried a cheap plastic soft case which I thought would stretch enough to fit but it didn't. So I had better not drop my phone.....
Otherwise, the wireless charging works fine with a Nokia DT desktop charger.

There WILL be a Urban Armor Gear case!

Just got an email back from them stating they are in fact making a case for the nexus 6! Yay!
I always thought those looked really cool. I'm afraid they might be kinda bulky on a phone this big, though.

Oh **** YES!
I always wanted one of these cases for my devices, but they never seemed to support anything past Galaxy/iPhone devices. Now I know what case I will be getting for sure!
No dust covers and silly Transformers reliefs on the back that will interfere with an Aidock (and even with putting a magnetic sticker there for the airdock to adhere).
Nope : I'll pass.

The airdock is a wireless charging dock (essentially, for cars) : you lay your phone on a micro suction foam (below which is the QI coil), and it adheres to it. If your phone case is a bit rugous, the foam will not work as well, but you can just use a smooth magnetic adhesive (supplied with the dock) which'll work fine....
... provided you can lay it flat on the rear face of your case. And with such shapes on Urban Armor Gears cases, it will be a problem...

Like the imagnet dock, only it charges it too? I have the imagnet right now and use the UAG case on my HTC m8 and it works just fine.

Yeah, but we don't know yet wether there'll be enough metal in the right place inside the Nexus 6, so to do without a magnetic sticker ; and said sticker won't do with the back of such a case as the Urban Armor Gear one.
The Airdock also has a suction foam which makes magnets redundant (or at least, adhere better, which is always good in the car), but it requires glossy and (rather) flat plastic at the back of the case, which is another problem with this one...
Well... we'll see what comes out as accessories. I now hope Otterbox indeed really is considering a case, as neither Trident nor Ballistic seem interested, and as Spigen won't do a case with dust covers. So a Commuter is among my last hopes, so I can buy the Nexus 6... If I can't have a somewhat rugged case (without going to the last extremities), I'll have to pass on this phone, even though I'd really like to get it.
Was always interested in UAG cases. Will probably cop one for times when I'm doing an activity that may require a heavier duty case for extra safety measures.

Have one for my GN2 and really like it. Would definitely be interested in one for the Nexus 6!

Look what I found. Sorry that I can't post a direct link yet. You're all seasoned internet users and should know how to put that into the address bar properly

39.99? That's a lot for a case in my opinion is it worth it?
Here's the link again http://www.amazon.com/Urban-Armor-Gear-Motorola-Nexus/dp/B00OUC85MO
Thanks for linking it. I never had a UAG case before so I couldn't tell you. 40 bucks is quite steep for what amounts to a piece of plastic in my opinion. I'm thinking more of a flipcase or something with a kickstand since the phone is so large. The fact that the volume and power buttons are on the same side would suggest that they intend for it to be more of a media consumption device as well.

I have this case on my iPhone and its boss!!! Will probably end up getting it for the n6 too

It is a bit pricey. I'm worried about the curvature of the back and those indentations. Almost wouldn't feel comfortable I'd imagine.
Seems like it might be awkward.

Hope they come in more colors. Never really liked the "crystal" version.

My Seidio CONVERT Case for the Nexus 4 was $50 when it was released and to this day I never had any damage happen to my phone (hell even the glass back has not been damaged at all if you can believe it!).
Fact is that when you are paying up a premium, you are paying for top notch protection. My Nexus 4 never was graced with the attention of Otterbox or UAG (hell I wish it was) but considering the attention and love the Nexus 6 is getting from Case Manufactures it is good luck for all of us on the options out there for us now!
I personally cannot wait for this case. I just hope they get it out there soon!
I'd like to see one in that olive green color they make.

My problem with the UAG for my S4 was that the high lip on the front, even with a tempered glass screen protector, interfered with swiping from the side gesture for opening the navigation drawer. The N6 is supposed to have a nice edge on the side, and I am afraid of ruining it.
For those of you wanting other colors: I just e-mailed their support and asked if they had any plans for different styles/colors. The response was a negative
Shame really, the Scout style looks really nice.

must have accessories for 2nd hand Z3??

Upgrading to a Sony Xperia z3 I bought on swappa, listed as mint condition but doesn't have accessories. (Coming from htc sensation & Samsung galaxy II- current). Should I use Sony brand accessories for charging, headphones and the like? I also need something to protect it from myself (just call me butter fingers) and onry terrorist toddler. I don't know anything about Qi or the magnetic cable charging technology or what to look for and steer away from. I need a case and screen protector I'm assuming? All the help I can get I would appreciate. Also, do you think I can/should pay for the monthly protection TMo offers? I really need this phone to last awhile.

I found that glass on display is quite enough, so dont use any screen protector. For charging I use the standard Sony charger and also Sony WCR14 case that have Qi wireless charging. Protects phone and dont have to mesd with cable and always open USB flap. As for headphones I found the included ones quite good and for outside I have wireless bluetooth ones with Bluetooth 4.0 from Philips. Super useful for travel is Xiaomi battery pack with 16000 mAh capacity, supports chargin at 2A.

Ah I looked up the Qi case, it's a bit out of my piece range at the time being.
So my concern is, if I drop it without a screen protector / case, then is Sony's glass going to hold up?

NO WAY... The glass is super against scratches and greasy fingers (just use glass cleaner to wipe) but should you drop your phone its likely it will break. Seen some half dead Xperias already. The back is also glassy.
The protection case, at best with rigid frame, is absolute must.

I have a black leather flip style case for my Z3. My gf bought it from a local market stall a while back, and its fantastic. It also has slots on the inside of the front cover for credit cards etc.
A little late but
the orange store south africa sells the wireless charging kit for under 300rand which translates to $20. So far while it is a little awkward to use the phone at times i love it. At night I charge with the case open 44degrees c yesterday. I would recommend it!
Got me a set of Anker USB cables, a Copter Exoglass screen protector (tempered glass) and Rearth Ringke Fusion case. Thinking of getting something to charge magnetically. The rest I have is wonderful
