[Q] Updated Venue 7/8 with Intel Merrifield processors - Dell Venue

Hi,
I want to buy Dell Venue 8. But I came across that Dell updated Venue 7 and 8 with Intel merrifield processor - Intel Atom Z3460 for Venue 7 and Intel Atom Z3480 for Venue 8.
They announced, these updated units will be available from July 1st but I can not find any of them on internet.
Anyone has any idea where they might be available - preferably in India?

i'm debating on getting one myself. . .
the drop-in ram from 2GB to 1GB worries me as my current v7 use more than 512mb just running android 4.4.2 no additional apps started
and even though it's a Baytrail based SOC Intel doesn't seem to be living up to it word on Open Source code for it seems they've only published Atom 3800 sources . . .
maybe i'll wait and see if they release another dev-edition first. . .

Ya know, it doesn't help things having these tablets named after the phones that were discontinued at the end of 2012. And that the two are not even compatible with each other.

The new Venue 8 is now showing on dell's site...
http://www.dell.com/us/p/dell-venue-8-3840-tablet/pd?ref=PD_OC
I hope they have a discount as the first version...

Has anyone picked up one of the "updated" models? I ordered one for my daughter this weekend and noticed (AFTER I ORDERED IT!) that Dell decreased the RAM from 2GB down to 1GB.
I am wondering how this will affect the gaming performance, as she will use it to play things like Minecraft PE with her friends.

[Q][Intel Z2580] Ramos i8 & Ramos i9 - Custom Roms

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone with a Ramos i8/i9 has experimented with other custom roms and/or are aware of any stable roms that worked well with this Intel driven device ?
Thank you !
I have bought the Ramos i8 tablet (Have not received it yet though) and I am interested in testing custom roms as well. It has similar hardware with the Ramos i9 for which there are some custom roms around already (I think) so I suppose it could be ported from there (?)
There is an androidx86 project that has already released a 4.4 KitKat android for x86 devices (netbooks etc.) Could something like that be used in Ramos i8, i9 or similar Intel processor devices somehow? I suppose the install process is the hardest part...
Here is the link to the project:
http://www.android-x86.org/releases/releasenote-4-4-rc1
FYI I already asked in their group and there is a problem with the drivers of the PowerVR GPU. They are proprietary so it is not supported by androidx86.
Since there is no forum subsection for the i9 I could not post but I have some custom stuff running on my i9. I was asking the Slatedroid community if they wanted a release (which I could work on polishing) however not if only a few people will use it and help it keep going.

Hi Seven I'm quite keen on experimenting and would love to give ur concoction a try and I'm sure panpapad would too...
and what better place to share it than on XDA as it might draw other devs to help contributed.
Thanks heaps if you do share it on here...! :victory:
im very interested
Hey seven2099. I'm very interested in a custom rom. Was trying to post on the slatedroid forum but have to wait for the damn approval before I can post. So soon ill be n there with you. I was also wondering if anyone as found a custom recovery which works on the i9.
Hey guys! Sure I'd like to experiment with custom roms but I got the Ramos i8 not i9 tablet. It has very similar specs but still its a different tablet. So if anyone wants to work on i8 I can test .
Ramos i9 post-root issue
Hi guys,
Total newbie here.
Can anyone provide assistance on a root gone wrong?
Long story short: bought Ramos i9, rooted it in order to remove all the Chinese apps, and now no sound is coming through the speakers (only headphones).
Have tried rebooting, factory reset, and a second root. No luck.
Adb I used is adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20140321. I tried Nexus 4 drivers after the second root, still nothing.
Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated!
Cheers,

Ramos i9 firmware-Update goes wrong
Hi, I have a problem with my Ramos i9.
I have loaded and run the latest firmware from the ramos.com.cn website. After I start the Update-Process the screen goes black and the device will not boot again. I think I install the wrong firmware for a Ramos i9 with GPS. Can somebody help me to reinstall the firmware by using a Windows-PC. Thanks!

Hi Seven2099,
This tab is rebranded and sold as digiflip xt901 in India. Please share some of your ideas on firmware mods for this.
Thanks
Suren
Hi everybody I have Ramos i8 branded as polypad i8 in Turkey.
I research whether there is another ramos i8 that is branded diffrently in an another country.
I have found one in india.
called Digiflip Pro XT 801 Tablet and with sim card Digiflip Pro XT811 Tablet.
XT 801 and XT 811 are the same configuration except 3G.
There are some who achieved to update XT811 to kitkat(4.4) but what about XT801(i8) ?
Here is link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/kitkat-firmware-update-procedure-t2984011?nocache=1
Is it worth to try? What do you think.
Edit:
Not working becuse has different Rom.
Not try.
---
No you cant......the firmware of xt801 is different from xt811......this may brick your device

The Dell Venue 3830 tablet (8 and 7 inch-3730) is to my knowledge the only z2580 based android tablet that has an official kitkat release.
Since there are so many different z2580 devices out there without updates newer than 4.2.2 it would be a great project for many people (including me) to see if that Dell rom can be ported and optimized for other z2580 devices.
My major issue is ram on my 1GB z2580 tablet (only ~200mb free after clean reboot). A kitkat update would in many ways solve that issue and make the tablet a solid useable device. (No my kernel does not support swap.) The cpu is quite fast and a shame to waste.
Edit: Asus Zenfone 5 and 6 are both Intel z2580 devices with official kitkat updates, (and cyanogenmod seems to be supported, surprisingly). Their roms could be useful for the z2580 community. Possibly moreso than the Dell Venue since reports show the kitkat firmware to have some stability issues for some people.

Good news.
When i ask ramos firm, they said that they will issue new rom as soon as intel issue a rom apropriote for x86.
They blamed intel for not issuing new rom app to x86.
For more ram you should use greenify. It makes the ram free up to 460 mb.
And not to mention nova launcher with dcikonz theme.

Dell venue 7 (3741)

3741 files are now available at dell's opensource.
rooted boot.img flashbiosv41Root.zip, kernel and more for those that have this tablet.
http://opensource.dell.com/releases/Venue_7_3741_Baytrail/developer-edition/
Venue 10 5050 Baytrail-CR folder is up but empty.
This source finally gives us the isu , it boggles my mind why they have made this an available option for every Intel Android tablet Dell has made except the Venue 7 3730?

Dell Venue Tablets Developer-Edition BSP / Intel® Mobile Development Kit

Dell Venue Tablets Developer-Edition BSP / Intel® Mobile Development Kit ( Intel MDK )
First I want to take a second to thank and commend Dell on their efforts thus far on working with the open source / android community. Even if currently I can not directly benefit from it.
What is the Intel® Mobile Development Kit for Android* ?
" Are you a system or middleware developer? Use the Intel® Mobile Development Kit for Android* to create Android* system or middleware software that takes advantage of the latest innovations that Intel platforms have to offer. This solution provides access to an x86 Intel® architecture-based tablet, development tools designed to seamlessly create software for this device, and technical collateral about the OS, the tools, system software, middleware, and hardware. Get a device to experiment with and use non-commercial tools from Intel® System Studio to understand the advantages of the Intel platform helping you build apps that are power-efficient and that have the best possible performance."
Link : https://software.intel.com/en-us/intel-mobile-development-kit-for-android
Which hardware is directly supported with the Intel® MDK for Android?
"The proper usage of the Intel® Mobile Development Kit for Android requires an unlocked Android system to allow developers to execute several profiler daemons that come with the Intel® MDK. Specific Board Support Packages (BSPs) are available for the following devices :"

Dell Venue 10 5050 http://opensource.dell.com/releases/Venue_10_5050_Baytrail-CR/
Unfortunately Dell / Intel have yet to make this option available for the Dell Venue 7 3730
( why I currently can't directly benefit ) / only the kernel source is available.
Link :
Dell Venue 7 3730 http://opensource.dell.com/releases/Venue_7_3730_CloverTrail_plus/
Personally I don't agree with Dell's decision to not make this option available to the Venue 7 3730 and hope Dell will make it available in the near future.
If you own this device or even if you don't own this device please show your support for the open source community and email Dell's open source department [email protected]
and request that they release the dev-edition option for the Dell Venue 7 3730 we simply are asking Dell to treat all users / devices fairly and to finally make this option available for the entire Intel line up of Venue Tablets we shouldn't be forced to buy a new device simply because we liked the 7 inch size over the 8 inch.
-- update additional information later --
-- will update this evening to explain the process of unlocking the bootloaders , Dell's instructions have you flash a complete android system which isn't necessary if you are simply wanting the bootloader unlocked to be able to install custom recovery / custom ROM's. Following the instructions as provided by Dell will leave your device not able to receive ota updates.
-- future topic unpacking the boot , recovery , fastboot , and droidboot images.

Hi !
I think i am close using Chuwi Hi8 Pro or Cube iWorks 10 System.
But my efforts have been stopped as i was stupid enough to flash the newest FW that DISABLES booting Android.
Can someone answer here who has NOT flashed the new Firmware.
I need someone with this version:
BIOS: American Megatrends / Aptio, Core Version 5.011, Project BW3_VT4_C.10E
OR very similar. NOT the 109 version / BT4 found on the Trekstor page !
If you got it i have the tool to back it up to a file and THEN i guess we can make Android work.
Ender
Edit: got the file but something is wrong, have a Brick now

After many hours of looking for an answer i realised android x86 is still in development. But I found this and i was jumping of excitement.
Found this These are stable Phoenix OS, Bliss OS but they best work for newer 64 bit laptops so the best 32 bit stable os i found is Prime os
PrimeOS Classic 32 bit (for older systems) - https://primeos.in/
Use this variant if you have a cpu which was manufactured before year 2011, For example ->[ Intel Core i series 1st gen or below OR Intel Pentium dual core OR Intel Pentium G620 OR AMD Phenom II X6 1100T etc. ] Just enter your cpu model on google and you can find this info easily. This variant of PrimeOS will work well for all Old Intel, Old AMD and Old Nvidia GPUs. This version will also work on 32-bit systems, In case you cannot boot this variant of PrimeOS, you should try using PrimeOS standard or mainline.
I hope this helps.
