microSD card for 4k recording - G3 Accessories

Has anyone recorded 4K video from the G3 onto a uSD card? I'd like to get a 128GB card for mine, but the only ones out there at the moment are pretty slow. Even the UHS-1 Sandisk looks like its only ~14-16MB/s. Any idea how this compares to the system storage?

Using A1 SD Bench, I calculated the following write speed in my G3 (D855, 3/32GB):
-> Internal storage: 67.50MB/s
-> UHS1 64GB SD Card (Sandisk Extreme Plus): 27.35MB/s
I suggest you test it for yourself

Thanks! Mine is on pre-order, and I was looking to get a card so I'd have it when the phone arrived. even 15MBps should be sufficient since most phone 4k seems to be in the 6MBps (50 Mbps) range, but I'd hate to get the bigger card and then find out that it's hobbled.

Need help with SD cards

I want to buy a Micro SD card for my Z2. I know that the Z2 supports Micro SD cards up to 128 gb. But Sandisk has a 200 gb Micro SD card, and will it work with Z2? And does Z2 support UHS? I want the largest storage place and the fastest speed.

I have a UHS 1, 64GB SD card by SanDisk (I know it isn't the 200 like you asked) and that works quite well.
I'm sure you have looked into SD card speeds (or have knowledge about them), but if you don't the UHS class 3 is the fastest.
I'm guessing to be able to use the 200GB one you would have to partition it, however I aren't entirely sure.

My SD card works perfectly at UHS 1, no random unmounting problems or anything. I've attached a quick benchmark of the read/write speeds on it.

I have a Samsung 128GB EVO SD Card, which is UHS Class 1 and it works very well indeed, I will also attach a benchmark for your reading pleasure :good:
P.S: I should add that my Xperia Z2 still thinks that using the SDCard (Internal) is better for 4K camera than the external SDCard1 (Samsung EVO), assuming the internal is much faster as it is on-board chip.
UHS-1 or Class 10, are very similar with write speeds on Z2. I have tested UHS-1 and UHS-3 cards, the difference is about 12mb/s in write speeds on Z2!!!!
I have UHS-3 and I record 4K video directly on SD without any delay in saving, reading or writing! The inbuilt 16GB as well as my Sony UHS-3 card have same speeds in writing.

As previously stated 128GB
I am using a Sony branded 64gb. I had a PNY 64gb and it had problems in this phone and two others. So I am staying away from PNY from now on.
I saw that there are 256gb micro sd cards. Is it fake or it can be real?
Yep and they only have up to 200GB
http://www.sandisk.com/products/memory-cards/microsd/ultra-premium-edition/
I have a sandisk 128 gb cx class 10 in my z2 and all works flawless
I'm looking at a Samsung SD card from Amazon Canada. Most likely 128gb. The only reason I'm leaning toward Samsung is because they're water, dust, xray, magnet, shock, everything proof. And they have great reviews.
Every card of UHS-3 category is fine. Sony or Samsung or Strontium, all work well. Maximum writing speed on Z2 won't be more then 20mbps in any condition.

Meanwhile they're planing on releasing 512GB

So does the phone really support UHS - Class 3?
I have this sd card on xperia z2 but for some odd reason its causing the phone to reboot. I don't know if its the sd card issue or the the phone. The phone wasn't able to write some of the data on it during my last tour during photographing. A lot of the stuff was corrupted. I came home and wrote stuff on it and everything is being written without a problem via those sd card usb adapters. Anyone know what might be going on?
Any card above UHS-1 is useless as Z2 won't be able to get read/write speeds on UHS-2 or higher.
However they will be useful if you frequently copy data from PC to card with a card reader.
Anyone tried 200/256 GB card?
GSMArena states that Z2 can support up to 256GB (info by them or Sony), but here You wrote that officially it's max 128.
Thinking about buying one, but it will be in a week or two, so maybe someone tried and can say it works or not before I will test it by myself?

Micro SD testing

Hi guys, so I bought a micro sd class 10 for my G4 plus and I'd like to know if it's original and the speedy is right before using it on my phone.
Here is the test result:
Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
Writing speed: 13.9 MByte/s
Reading speed: 19.8 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4
Does it seem original for you? Thank you.

Class 10, UHS-1, U3 is the best choice with write and read speeds up to 90mb/s. A UHS-3 is faster than a UHS-1, but without being U3 you get up to 30mb/s.

128gb micro sd cards that work properly as internal storage

Hello.
I 've been reading a lot of (bad) stories with micro sd incompatibilities.
Since i want to use mine as internal storage, i want to be certain that it will work
I am between samsung (the new red pro ones,20mb/sec) and the new toshiba excesior ones (30mb/sec write, 2016 model).
Anyone had any luck with these?
Should they be ntfs formatted when inserted in the tablet?
Thanks in advance.
Hi vadergr,
i tested some different sd cards twoe 64 gb class 10 cards (samsung and lexar), they are verry slow for me. So i decided to buy a sandisk microSD extreme Pro with 64 gb but hab no luck with it, because the card was dead on arrival. So i went to my tech store and by a 128gb Sandisk Ultra, an now i'm fine with it. Fast reading speed (44mb/s) and solid write speed (23mb/s). All in all its ok and the tablet runs verry well with it. I run on Android 7 nougat and use the SD as internal storage.
128gb Sandisk Ultra
Greetings
ShrekDTH
I used Memento EXpert 128GB from memorette. I tested it out on PC, make a full read/ write to make sure it has got full capacity and then insert into the tablet. One interesting thing is the tablet recognized the card as Lexar Media (which is quite reputable). I formatted it as the internal storage.
So far, apart from heating up during game-plays, it is quite stable.

I had issues with mine set up as internal storage after i went past 128GB of data on it. went back to my Samsung 128GB Pro microSDXC and worked like a champ. the 256 works well as external storage. I did notice longer boot times with the more data i added to the micro sd card. i opted to stay away from internal storage for now.

What sd card should I get?

I'm looking for either a 128gb or 256gb micro sd card and I want to have the same experience as using the internal storage for recording 4k/superslowmo and using apps on sd cards.
But I don't want to overspend either, I don't know up to what speeds/classes the phone can utilize.
There's cards like Samsung evo plus 128gb for 60euro, cards like lexar 1000x 128gb at 95 euro with UHS II Bus all kinds of things I got lost in the sea of classes and speeds.
What cards did you guys get and can anyone recommend me something?

that was the fastest card available when I bought it, nothing was faster with high storage. I see 256gb cards now but haven't really looked into any or the specs
I got Samsung Evo+ 128 GB UHS-I U3 (100 MB/s read, 90 MB/s write) for 55 euros (just google MB-MC128GA/EU - NL Samsung site for this card) . There is also 128 GB Adata Premier One UHS-II with read 275 MB/s, write 155 MB/s for ~150 USD. 256 GB version is for 289 USD (amazon) - dunno why, but in Czech it is for ~210$ ^^. In your case, I would go for Samsung

I'm disappointed with XZP's sdcard access speeds, especially when the sdcard encryption is enabled. With my Samsung Evo+ 256Gb I got the following speeds:

Have you tried any other micro SDs or just the Samsung Evo+? I was thinking about getting the 2017 one, Samsung Evo Plus 256GB, but it seems like it will probably be the same, I think the only difference between that 2016 version is 10MB/s on Read speed. Would be interesting to see if certain cards do better than others, I would like to know if a A1 rated card also has this problem.
Hey guys. Thanks for all the helpful input. What would you say is the primary benefit of the additional storage of a 128GB to 256GB SD Card? I feel like on other phones without expandable memory, I never really reach capacity on 64GB models. So I probably used more cloud storage out of necessity and just got used to it. What are you guys using all this glorious storage for?

4k por... Oops I mean scientific ebooks etc.
All jokes aside... Having that bit of extra storage can give you the freedom to record, capture and download as you please!
Especially for people like me who hardly use online storage. I have the Samsung Evo Plus 256gb (2017 version) and I have so many 4k HDR10 movies and documentaries stored on it. I also dont have to worry about running out of space by constantly shooting 4k videos.
Having higher storage takes away all the limitations of having to transfer your files whenever you need to download new material.
I'm getting 72mb/read and 40mb/write even though the Micro SD card is capable of achieving higher speeds. This is due to the phone and I hope that android will find a way around this with upcoming updates, unless it's a hardware issue of course.
These speeds are more than enough for regular everyday use as I haven't faced any issues with reading/writing colossal files.
Hope this helps

Which card and size are you using, if any. I remember reading some time ago that adding a SD card tends to slow the whole phone down in general. This is why I haven't decided to add one yet.

Same as FuMMoD here and no perceptible slow down.

Well that's good to know. I have a spare brand new SanDisk Extreme Plus intended for my GoPro Hero 8 Black that I might just throw in. It is the red and gold card with ratings of V30 A2 3. This card records 4K on my gopro with no issues, so i assume it can handle the phone flawlessly.
I have an integral 512gb and whilst the general phone performance is fine I get the sense that the card performance is not great, one example is netflix stores downloads on the card and I get a spinning wheel during playback almost as In do if I am streaming
There will definitely be a performance lag but it's only noticeable when accessing the sdcard.
This is due to the ufs3.0 internal and transfer speed of the sdcard.
But tbh it is negligible unless you move apps to sdcard. For me I only store backups and media such as videos and photos to sdcard.
Sent from my SM-G985F using Tapatalk
Unless the card is faulty then I think the phone is the bottleneck anyway, the S20 cannot take advantage for an A2 card for example so no point spending money on a faster card.
Not moving any apps to SD at all. Not even setting it as a default storage for my camera either. I have my default video set to 4K 30fps, and I have a 5 year old that I'm constantly snapping. So you can imagine how quick the internal storage is going to fill up. This is strictly for me to transfer all my videos to.
Same as unomedman1
I only have a 64gb from my old s8 , & it contains my music and all the files needed for Root , titan backup apps & data , apps in apk form & camera pictures.
Internal drive is for downloads & apps & pictures. I'd never install apps to the sd though
Have two S20's with 128gig Sandisk and Kingston SD cards / no issues.
Running my S20 Ultra with a Samsung Evo Plus 512GB. No slowdown as SD card is only for storing videos which I have download. Plays fine too.

You can't because eventhough you set the SD card as your default camera storage, when you start recording a 4K 60FPS video the camera app will tell you with a message that it will be saved to internal memory.

Nope you cant because its automatically saved on internal storage even you've set it to SD Card as default storage. But its never be a big problem because the A2 SD Card transfer rate are really faster to move yo ur 4K or even 8K videos to your SD Card. But only with atleast A1 or A2 rate MicroSD. In normal MicroSD, it will take a lomg time to move your large files to the external. I'll test the free Samsung Evo+ U3 128gb that i got free from Samsung Galaxy S20 promo when it arrive this week to see the comparison between the both genuine Samsung U3 Evo+ 128GB & Sandisk Extreme Pro A2 128GB and will post it here.

Just for kicks, I ran Androbench to test the speed of my Samsung Evo Plus 512GB. It is not too bad compared to cards that I used back in the days of the Galaxy S3. I also ran the test on my internal memory, love the speed of the internal UFS storage. I read that the Note 20 might have even faster internal UFS than the S20.
