[Q] why must Note 3 set Samsung keyboard as default when switching to BT keyboard? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i just bought a new generic bluetooth keyboard for use with my Note3 and my tablet.
when I do normal thumb typing, swiftkey is being used.
the annoying part is that when i connect my BT keyboard, it insists on using Samsung keyboard as default. After disconnecting it, the default does not switch back to Swiftkey and i have to manually set it back.
2 questions :
1. is this the normal behavior?
2. any workaround to this issue? - best scenario would be the onscreen keyboard is automatically hidden and Swiftkey remains as my default keyboard, so there is no need to switch after i leave my BT keyboard on the desk.
thanks.

Switching keyboards when docked?

so when im using my prime without the dock, i use swiftkey. When i dock, i want it to switch to the asus/android keyboard. i can still type, but theres a few nitpicky things. Like if im typing a question on the phyiscal keyboard with swiftkey on, and i end with a question mark by hitting SHIFT ? on the keyboard, it capitalizes the first letter of the last word.
example:
Hey how's it Going?
so is there an easy way to have it switch input methods when i dock, or is there a way to just use swiftkey and not have it battle with the physical keyboard
I'm also very interested in this - have you worked out the best way to get around this yet?
There is a program in the market called keyboard manager that allows you to select which keyboard to use when the prime is docked, landscape and in portrait mode. However it needs root access.
You can press ctrl+shift on the dock keyboard, to change input method and ctrl+space to change language inside asus keyboard.

[Q] Looking for input method widget

Running XRON v 2.9.1
Does anybody know of a widget to toggle between two input methods without having to open up a text field and long press?
Ideally I would want a widget with the option to pick two. Each tap would move it along the list and activate that input method.
I have my Touchpad paired up with a Bluetooth keyboard using BlueKeyboard JP to pair the device. This seems to work well but after some time the keyboard times out and goes to sleep. Waking up it does not pair unless I toggle the input mode and press the connect button on the keyboard at the same time.
When not using the keyboard I use Thumb Keyboard 4. For most daily activity this is fine but the full keyboard is great for longer messages.
A toggle would let me quickly get the keyboard setup before I go into the app/apps that need the input, then quickly get back to my mobile setup.
Thanks

Bluetooth Keyboard forces Samsun Keyboard on display

For some reason when you use a Bluetooth Keyboard it auto swiches to the default Samsung system keyboard. Can switch back to Swype or Thumb Keyboard and keep using the Bluetooth keyboard. But as soon as you disconnect and reconnect it will change the keyboard back to the Samsung one.
Does anyone know how to disable this?
I'm also facing the same problem on Jelly Bean Samsung S3 as well .. searching for the solutio
I have this mostly working for me on a Note 2 (Sprint) using Tasker and Secure Settings plug in.
I set a profile for State->Bluetooth Connected (chose my bluetooth Keyboard). Then action "Wait" 2 secs (because system will automatically switch to Samsung keyboard). If Samsung keyboard is already selected, the popup about swithching to the samsung keyboard will be avoided.
Next, an action to switch to the Null Keyboard, or in my case, External Keyboard helper. (Plug-In ->Secure settings -> Input method
Then an exit action for when the BT KB is disconnected: Wait 2 secs (may be unnecessary), then Secure Settings -> Input method -> Samsung keyboard
Unsolved problems with this method:
1. When disconnecting BT keyboard, swiftkey function of samsung keyboard sometimes stops working. I believe this is a result of the BT disconnect occurring with a different keyboard selected. The sammy kb disables swiftkey when an external kb is connected, and re-enables it when the ext kb is disconnected. Not sure how to fix that yet without manually switching input method back to samsung kb before disconnecting the ext kb.
2. If the soft keyboard is open/displayed while connecting the BT keyboard, the soft keyboard, while no keys are shown, will still hide half of the screen as though it's still open. (At least, in Chrome this happened). Closing and reopening the application fixed this.
I choose this over freezing or uninstalling the samsung keyboard simply because i use it quite a bit. If you don't, then I imagine freezing or uninstalling the Sammy KB or using a ROM without it at all would be a cleaner option.

change to Asus keyboard for better consistency ??

When I plug the tablet to the dock I see this popup where or how do I set this?
I use thumb keyboard which I've set to my default input device (when not docked) in Settings/Language & Input. When I first got my dock and docked the Prime it said that. I went into Language & Input and set the default input to the Asus keyboard thinking that the dock would not work properly. After getting frustrated using the Asus touchscreen keyboard I changed my default back to Thumb keyboard. Ever since I did that I've never seen that message again.

Dex keyboard mapping wrong

Hello, my S7(regular version) keyboard mapping suddenly changed. Some of the symbol keys have been switched around and I cannot use the top numbers row like I used to. Before I had to press shift to type a number, now it is automatically a number. I use the Belgian azerty keyboard setting normally but it is pretty much unuseable for work right now.
This change seems to have come since the last update and it is incredibly annoying. Anyone know a fix?
I've already tried changing the settings for the keyboards but to no avail. Even when sharing the keyboard with my note 9 it keeps doing this. Or when I switch to a Bluetooth keyboard instead of the Samsung keyboard cover.

So you are talking about the keyboard connected to the Dex workstation (computer / pc), not the S7 keyboard. Right?
But what update are you talking about? Dex update, or S7 update?
I assume Dex update.
So it seems to be a Dex issue which should be solved in Dex ... somewhere.
Oh, I have to update my Dex too before I can check.
Now I have DeX for PC version 2.0.0.21
In Dex settings - general administration - physical keyboard I set the same keyboard layout as in windows. And it works for me.
You can try to enable the option to show the screen keyboard in Dex.
Or just changed the keyboard layout to something else (in Windows and Dex). Hopefully you find a combination that works for you.
