[Q] MIUI questions - Open Source?

Dear all,
I have a few beginner's questions and tried to search for answers but what I found did not quite help. I am looking for an alternative ROM for my neo V that does not call home, no matter where that is. The one ROM that is normally recommended is CM as it is open source. But I saw MIUI and I liked what I saw, so I have a few questions:
To which extent is MIUI open source? Can you actually compile it yourself and get the same ROM that's distributed in binary form?
There seem to be apps to replace Play Store and other normally Google-provided services. Is it possible to remove them?
What's you view on MIUI privacy?
Cheers,
Ben

MIUI is not open source
you can remove the apps with any file explorer with root access
privacy is a big issue in android and android based roms(MIUI)
other than that there are several other reasons also due to which i don't trust MIUI
and i don't like mentioning it in the forum as it can be offensive for some users and i don't want to be banned from xda

Thanks for the insight. Guess I'll stay on CM then. Probably the best option.

i9100 CM11

Hi there guys.
Is there anyone working on CM11 for now ? I can't find any info on CM site about i9100 (I believe it should work flawlessly as google wants to support older phones).
Just let me now, please !
Cheers
the guys from the team of CM now versed in the system, because there are many things requiring adaptation. So wait for CM 11 I think is closer to the new year
Here you go.. But it's still in testing stages.. You could test and report to the developer for its development..

You can use OmniRom instead. I used CM 7, 9, and 10, with a Galaxy S1 and then S2. I recently switched to OmniRom because they had a working KitKat rom. Basically a group split off from CM after it became a company, and that group is called OmniRom. CM's i9100 development has all but stopped, but the OmniRom have KitKat rom nightiles that are quite stable. I'm using as my daily driver, and all features work. My phone is faster that it was on CM10.2.
OmniRom:

Nightly Changelog:

Note: As per the XDA thread, you need SuperSU and GApps. Please use Paranoid Android's GApps modular mini. The full one didn't work for me, and others have said the same.
The only bugs I'm having with OmniRom are:
(1) Automatic time zone (set it manualy)
(2) The OpenDelta over the air updater doesn't work properly yet.

Good luck.

Problems to execute Cm11 on my s2
Hello, I wonder if any Modder or Dev could help me.
I have a Galaxy s2 I9100 stopped there two years, and recently tried to install Cm11 him, and when I start the phone it loads the bootloader Cyanogem Mod, and then a message "Shutting Down Power Off" appears.
I tried using other versions as Slim Know, Paranoid, Pac Rom, etc ... and all the same thing happen. I decided to go back to official samsung 4.1.2 rom, it worked okay, but the phone does not load, an error appears stating that the phone battery with this high temperature, but the phone does not heat up, it is normal temperature coma.
I took the phone in technical assistance, which found that the problem is in the motherboard. I wonder if any Modder or Dev could help me on how to disable it in CM11 rom, or which file responsible for turning off the phone in case of failures. Thanks in advance
(Sorry for my bad english)
Handwriting to text
Hey
I was just wondering if cm11 has a handwriting to text feature.? I can't seem to find it, if it has it.

[Q] SGS2/CM Installer Rooting Clarification Required.

Firstly, A very Good day to all the awesome people at XDA and my fellow SGS2 users !
To begin with, I am completely new to this scene, so please bear my lack of know-how.
I have a SGS2 GT i9100 and after years of running the stock JB 4.1.2, I have decided to install the new KitKat ROM 4.4.2. So after days of researching I am considering the use of CyanogenMod installer to install the new ROM, since it seems like a safe and stable bet and Philz-CWM as recovery ( Thanks to @Vivek_Neel 's advice ) - Is this a reliable method to move ahead with ?
Also, just to clarify the order doing things - Flash Philz-CWM ( v 6.25.0 ) >>> Then run CM Installer or is it the other way round
Before I do anything, however, I have some doubts which I am hoping to get clarified :-
1) [Regarding CyanogenMod Installer] - Off the many DIY's that I came across regarding installing the new KitKat ROM, almost everyone seems to mention downloading the Main ROM file and Google Apps file and transferring it to the phone before starting.
So If use the CM Installer, do I too need to download and transfer to my phone - the Google Apps and/or any other ancillary files ( if so, which ones ) or will the Installer do it by default ?
2) According to the CM wiki, CM Installer will install a "stable snapshot build unique to the installer. These are stable builds designed to provide all core features and functionality of the device." - What does this mean in layman English ? Also all the guides for installing the KitKat ROM are using "Nightlies" - So which one should I use - What's the difference ?! And will the CM Installer install KitKat 4.4.2 ?
3) Just to clarify, after installing the Custom ROM, will I be able to download and use apps as I was doing when I was using the stock JB 4.1.2 ?
Once again, please bear with my rookie-ness and I look forward to your answers.
Cheers !

[ROM][CM13] Nexus 6 Mod Ready?

I have a Nexus 6 running Android N developer build NPD90G. I really want to go over to Cyanogenmod because of the 13.1 Mod Ready update, which integrates Cortana, Skype, etc. However, all the builds are 13.0, not 13.1. This made me think that I cannot install the mods, but on the CM website it says that mods are supported on phones running CM13 and up. Does this mean that I can install the mods on my phone if I go over to CM? And if so, will my phone even support them? I've tried to find an answer to this but I couldn't find one anywhere.
UPDATE: I realized that the mods are only in Cyanogen OS, not CM. But is there a way to still get that deep integration of mods in CM itself? Sry I'm a noob...

Looking for MIUI Camera / Google Camera port

Hi guys! At the moment I wasn't able to find any working Google Camera port. Maybe I missed a working one? If there isn't, can one of the awesome rom developers port a MIUI Camera from the official miui rom?
P.s.: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-note-2/themes/google-camera-versions-t3840815
In this thread, there's a library zip file in the third post, but I'm afraid to use it, cause the [UNOFFICIAL] LineageOS 16.0 is finally working without any problems and there's no detailed guide what the zip file is doing. Is it safe to use?
I use this and it goes very well in AoSp ext.
GCam5.1.014-Arnova8G2-v9.1.apk
Can't use it, it's crashing before the phone can open it
