**General Info** Root, Restore, Unlock , and Modified files - Sprint LG G3

I figured as the popularity of this phone grows, people will be wanting to find out about it. So I'll provide the links to that info.
History:
XDA started the G3 as one phone, but there were so many variables between the phones that they decided to divide us up into our respective G3 forums. Sprint, Att, Verizon, etc
So because this phone is so new, all the info is in the initial forum, LG G3
As we grow, this thread will become obsolete as all of our info will end up in our forum. But for now....
Root:
Sprint G3 root: Here
Bootloader/Unlock:
Get it Here
Another method to install it Here
Restore phone to factory fresh: LGFlashtool
This will restore your phone to factory fresh. The walkthrough below will also get your MSL for the ##RTN# dialer code
Make sure to thank wolfgart for this.
HERE is the link to the thread with the .tot and directions.
HERE is a walk thru that works for Sprint. Thanks to fergie716

EXTRA FILES FOR YOUR PHONE - USE THESE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
Until we get unlock/exploit, some of us want to improve our phones now. I'm going to open this up to anybody that wants to post files they've modified to fix/improve our phone.
Here's the requirements:
1. Post what the file will do
2. What we need to do to install it
3. The precautions to take, ie permissions etc, and/or if the file will cause a bootloop if installed wrong.
I'll add these to the OP with a link to the post with the instructions.

Is the Bootloader Unlock a guarantee, or is it that they won't look into it until all G3s have root? Sorry, I just want to take advantage of the $150 if it's definitely possible

It isn't a guarantee. They are just not going to look at it until all the devices have root.

Nice. Didn't think of that.
How well is it working? Anything special need to be done to get it active? Are you able to connect your other devices to it?

Just pda net on the laptop. Go to Fox fi website gives a good explanation, pretty easy actually. Blue tooth speeds aren't very fast. Haven't tried to connect my note 10.1 2014 yet

Check out the pricing guide on the gentoo wiki. In reality getting free tethering is usually as simple as changing a hidden setting via sql that tells the phone to tether without checking for a data plan. This is only possible with root. I did this on my g2

I believe they were referring to Wi-Fi tethering. On a side-note, I don't understand why people want AllCast and similar apps -- I'd rather be able to send all my audio or my screen to a remote player. Like on my HTC One, "Media Output," allowed me to play Spotify or anything my phone played through headphones -- on my various DLNA receivers in the house. I've found a few apps that can sort of mimic this, but they require root to access the audio stream.

You can try using Connectify (google it) and while sharing your Internet to your phone using Foxfi or PdaNet over usb, use Connectify to share it using your Laptop's wifi.
Just an idea, but it seems it might work.

Just to keep the wheels turning: jcase said on Twitter yesterday that he has root on Sprint G3, but he won't release until mid-August "at the earliest." He's got a lot of other projects going (Fire, OnePlus One, Sunshine, Blackhat conference, etc) and it will be a paid root method, so don't hold your breath for an exact date, just start saving your pennies.

From what ive understood, they had root on the sprint g3 for awhile now but want to get the bootloader unlocked before releasing it. Which makes sense to me, id like to have a custom recovery for backing up before doing things that require root.

I can confirm this does NOT work. The app doesn't even copy update.zip to my SD card. I was able to pull the zip file from unzipping the apk, however it fails signature when I do the recovery step.
give it a day or two at the max after tomorrow. I'm betting by the weekend this phone will be rooted and fully open for ROM's and whatever your heart desires.
I for one wouldn't trust a one click root that wasn't specifically made for the fascinate itself.
The app would need to be able to "handshake" with the device, so without specific parameters, no way this could work- unless of course designed for Galaxy S and any "custom" efforts VZW may have asked HTC to add.

He didn't use any fix, my friend.. The one click root doesn't work on the Fascinate.
That root method won't work on the Fascinate, as it needs signed update.zip files for recovery mode. Same as the Epic. Bit meh, really. The Epic root method seems to work though, sortof.
As far as the OCLF lag fix, it should work fine once you have rooted using other methods. I'm guessing the Fascinate is using RFS, so it probably would speed up your device.

[support] That darn bootloader

Hello.
I know what you are thinking.
Oh no, not another n00b bootloader thread.
Sorry, but sadly it is.
I'm on stock JB 10D MetroPCS MS 769 10d.
I was reading through the Internet, but I'm hard of eyesight and the strain is really starting to stress me. I've never had a phone that seemed harder to unlock(the bootloader). I see many threads and it is really tempting to get a newer rom that will save my battery and all of my troubles.
The only problem is, each tutorial I come across has lead me in a million different directions. Some are dated back from June of this year. I would like an updated method, and of course being the newbie I am, I don't want to try an old method and turn this phone into a paperweight.
I have researched that the T-Mobile ROMs will work on this monstrosity. I know about 2nd init, clockwork mod, have unlocked the bootloader on a tablet. Have been following DROID since Froyo.
I need a sure fire way to do this. I'm sure some of the new guys around here would like a sure fire method.
Let me just brief.
I am familiar with Clockwork mod recovery.
I know basic Terminal Emulator commands.
I run Linux
I know given the right instructions how to Unbrick
My device is currently rooted using the Chinese method, was able to properly install SuperSU and get rid of the Chinese version.
I am aware that the process somehow involves firmware with an inverted screen.
There are so many guides and tools, I've used LG Support tool before, and my final question is...
How the heck do I unlock the bootloader on an MS769 Optimus LG with stock L9 10D firmware?
And yes I've tried the search feature and just got even more confused.

.lAfter doing some research, I've got everything done up to flashing the 20B firmware this is the point of no return for me. The only thing I haven't done is ADB, but that comes with software mode right before the flash. I'd like to go over this with somebody to see if I have everything set correctly.
Also I need a good copy of the 10D and the European 20B kHz.

Awesome. Thanks guys. I had trouble with flashing kdz files so I had to go over the tutorials with a fine toothed comb, seems I did not have the small server in the right folder on the root of my C:/ drive. I got 10f flashed, that was my "safe" tester. As long as I can get into software update mode it should be no biggie.
Thanks to you guys as well. Couldn't have asked for better support than on XDA. When I am sure that my internet connection will be reliable, I'll go ahead and follow that guide.
Moving my apps to the SD Card would be really nice. This phone is not very well endowed as far as Internal Storage goes. lol
So yeah to repeat I got KDZ flash working, at least on the "municiple" laptop in the folks house lol. I know what I have to do.
First off, I'm dual booting this old piece of crap laptop I have, it barely runs Windows 7...but it works.

Something new you learn about your Mega...

So, I hope others add to this thread. I learned something new to me and thought I'd share.
There were several times when I picked up my phone, and it vibrated. For no reason. I thought this was odd. But, there was a reason. I just didn't know it. I have been reading the samsung site's FAQ and was enlightened.
When you pick up your mega and it vibrates, it is telling you there is a missed call, text, voicemail or other notification waiting. It's called Smart Alert. Very convenient if you have notifications limited to 1. Never had a phone do this before. I like it!!
I learned my Mugen 6600mah battery is a beast giving me double battery life lol naw I'm playing. Glad to see someone else noticed that vibration thing...but running custom 4.4.2 it doesn't do it anymore.cheerz
*SHAYNEZ*KCCO*
I will throw in one. On the lock screen, I added a widget for the remote. Now, I don't even have to unlock the phone to turn the tv down. I really like the IR feature.
dmn i wasnt sure what those vibrations supose to do ( for me it was more like "haha im not sleepn any more" lol )
IR is pretty sweet. what apks u use to use ur mega as remote controller?
I just use the Samsung stock WatchOn for IR remote. It works well with my dish recievers and televisions. Is there something I should look at that is better?

I like your version of that vibration!! I used to think it was just saying "HI, still here!"
I use the stock watch on too. I found this by accident. Was going thru the unfamiliar apps in the apps drawer, clicked on it and found a very cool thing!!! Works on optonline's cable box! Very cool. I have the Note 8 and never found this one. It's there though! Just had to hunt for it.
Keep um coming guys!!! Thanks for your participation! :highfive:
I just learned over the weekend that my Mega can be used an an IR remote for my Nikon camera. Does all sorts of stuff that the Nikon remote does, and for free ($4 if I want the ad-free version, which I'm considering).
I like that when I am txting someone.... I can tap on the paperclip and choose "record audio".. then it gives me over 3 minutes of yapping and yapping.. so much easier than typing or even using the voice typing.. 3 minutes of my own speech.. in a txt message!!! love it

Can someone explain exactly why knox is so bad? Does it keep you from re-rooting?
This is what I know about it so far. It makes a separate "box" of stuff so you can keep your work stuff separate from your personal stuff and your employers have the ability to control this "box" somehow. I know it can't be un-installed. That's about all my knowledge, even after checking it out!

Sorry, but it's no way... new firmware is one way ticket - you can't go back even if you have nandroid backup. New bootloader prevent you from downgrading. Anyway in my opinion it is only matter of time to find a way to root new firmware with KNOX. And when 4.4.2 arrives there will be no other choice than upgrade with all what it contains... and one of this things will be KNOX for sure.
Since no one is jumping in here to explain why knox is so bad, I went back to find out exactly what knox is. Read the following link from samsung's site.
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/mobile/solution/security/samsung-knox/
This explains what it is. I still need to know why it is so bad for devs to get around it. Any one???
What I got so far after reading the above link is it is attached to the bootloader, and the kernel, so if anyone messes with these components, the phones senses it and shuts down the phone. Is this the huge block associated with the att version and knox in general?

Native root method found! Towelroot.com (CVE-2014-3153)

Just found this thread that confirms root for the vzw and att s5.

Edit @geohot has made a root method that works. All you have to do is go to http://towelroot.com and click the icon in the center to download tr.apk . Install the tr.apk after allowing installation from unknown sources. The click the button to root and the phone will reboot and you will have root. I recommend you download the updatesupersu1.99 zip and install the supersu from the common folder after extracting.

That vulnerability is going to be like Cube's getroot - it's going to work on a huge number of devices.
I've been looking on how to exploit it but haven't had much time to devote to it, but apparently it's been cracked for at least one phone.
We'll have native root on the S4/S5 and who knows what else pretty soon if I'm not mistaken. Good news.

After reading the linked post it seems this is more a "nah-na-nah-na boo-boo" thing. It's not released, but it does give me hope that we can get a native root method like JB had.
My question is, to what end? Surge's pre - rooted functions well and is effectively stock, would this make any functionality differences vs a pre rooted rom?

It would be easier to do, and for example, if you dont flash SuperSu before a reboot after installing a rom, you will lose root and have to start the downgrade and upgrade process all over again. If there was a native root method all you would have to do would be to probably run a script on your computer with your phone plugged in and you will have root back. I'd imagine it would be safer and have less chance of bricking.
I actually prefer the more difficult hacks...less likely to be exploited for malware. Not saying this one will be or even could be, but easy root is not necessarily good. I'm sure jcase is shaking his finger at everyone somewhere, lol.

I for one would love this as I have had zero ability to use any of the other ways for rooting my s4...I have had every problem trying every method so I have just given up and would love this...thanks anyone for working on it...
It's already worked out question is how the bounty is going to be paid and or split. It's not just one persons work but a bunch of contribute used info being used and who will get full credit. The bounty is what's holding up release because now yall want to pay

As I've said before, bounties aren't my motivation. I post what I find and make it public.
This particular vulnerability is an interesting one, with a good potential for exploit. It is not going to be easy to exploit across a large number of phones.

Easy first one to post the root or a stock rooted image... if someone has it but another puts it up for public use, then they should get the whole bounty not one who shows it but does not share... JMO.

I was told by someone on another forum that's been looking at it for the RAZR HD/M that it needs to be able to directly access memory, which as we know, can't be done in Java. Are you looking at doing it in C? Just a curiosity is all.
Would this method allow custom kernels? Or just root?

Just root. Unlocked bootkoader is needed for custom kernels.

Probably Safestrap recovery by @Hashcode just like ATT S4 and Note 3..... per my buddy @Surge1223 we might able to use Note3 Kitkat Safestrap Recovery v3.72.... time would tell.

I couldn't care or less if they release this root method. We already have several pre rooted ROMs with kitkat. I understand the exploit could be easier to root but I don't care how long it takes to root. I just want an unlocked bootloader. If anything we need to get more people to add to the bounty to maybe attract attention. And get as many devs working on it as possible. I am sure surge is probally getting tired of working on this for so long. It's been close to a year and nothing since loki. I bought my s4 because I thought it could be unlocked but I bought it just around the time Verizon patched loki which sucks

Im just curious. Will this exploit trip the Knox counter?

I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but this vulnerability is very difficult to exploit, and even if done correctly, will not be stable on the majority of devices. @jcase has already taken a look at this since the day it came out, and if he says it's not worth the time, it's not worth the time. Geohot may have been able to exploit it, but you only have access to a root shell for 15-20 seconds before the device becomes unstable and shuts down. SEAndroid is also an obstacle after the vulnerability has been exploited. While it's certainly possible, it's a bit far out of the ballpark to be feasible at this point in time.

Samsung galaxy avant - root?

Hey guys, I was just wondering if maybe anybody over here could help us get root on the new Samsung galaxy avant. Or even give us some pointers on how to obtain root on the device.
I can try to pull any files that are needed and help out any way I can.
Any words of wisdom would be nice, or to tell me to get out of here. That works too. Just needing some more experienced people to help out if at all possible. Thanks ?
I'm trying to get the same info. Just got my Avant and am so used to running custom roms in my other phones. Still have my build from the collective on my S2 but it's about to die and I will get a new S5. But I can't deal with the bloat ware and not having control of my phone. I've had it 24 hours and I'm about to throw it against the wall because all the junk apps and settings. Other than that it might be a good phone .

Nothing yet, unfortunately.

Hey planterz, thanks.
Do you know if anyone has even started on this phone or is it too new?
I'm sure there is some kit Kat development going on though , right?

If you read through that thread, then you know as much as I do, sorry to say. I've been checking other forums as well. The Avant has KNOX, as well as Qualcomm Secureboot. For whatever reason, T-Mobile has locked this device down hard. Nothing is impossible, of course (look at the AT&T/Verizon Note 3/GS5 and Towelroot - which unfortunately doesn't work on the Avant), but it might take some time to find root for the Avant, and maybe even longer for a way that doesn't void your warranty and/or permanently prevent updates.
Yeah, I posted this somewhere else trying to get some people interested but guess it got moved.
if you were still looking..
I am a new user, so I cant post links, but, chainfire can now root this phone.

Yeah we have it sorted out on the other thread for this. Linked in the above comments
Now that we have root, what's next?
Hi, my Avant is the first phone I've been compelled to root. I had done some research, picked up a few apps that were recommended (i.e. AdFree), using a different launcher, etc..
It's been a great step forward, and now I'm hunting for the next step. Going into ROM Toolbox and deleting everything that looks unnecessary or bloatesque seems like a great way to brick the phone. Is there any way to determine what can be eliminated without catastrophe, or a list of egregious resource hording apps?
When it come to deleting apps I don't think it's possible to brick the phone. You can pretty much delete any app you want and replace it with a third party one. I've removed everything except the launcher, messages, phone, the tmobile app (since I pay my bill through it) etc etc. Just use root Uninstaller and back up any app you might think could cause a problem.

I currently own this device and am liking it except for the fact that it overheats and the battery life is horrible. Is there a fix
You can root it by using towel root and then after rooting you can download set cpu app from playstore which can increase batterylife or you can increase your phones performance.
Hope it helps!!!!

Haha, I would do that except this phone is temporary. Thanks for the help though.

So your saying that I can 100% definitely root the T-Mobile prepaid Galaxy Avant without a computer and just that app?

No you can not. Towel root doesn't work for the avant. Last time I checked anyways.
Easiest way to root it is flash twrp using odin, then flash the newest supersu.zip in twrp.
I'm new
I'm a brand new to all of this and I have a Galaxy Avant that I want to root. I've read thru the threads and am still confused. I can't use towelroot.com on this phone and the apps for rooting in the app store don't work. Do I have to root using a pc or can I do it without one? How??
