Data on two phones- with one line - Sprint LG G3

I just tried the most peculiar thing.. I just got the LG G3 as an upgrade from my HTC One.
I had tethering mods on my HTC one to tether for free and wanted to use it as a hotspot temporarily. So i figured that if i took the UICC card out of the LG G3 and stuck it in my HTC One, i would at least get 4G and be able to tether while i was in 4G coverage.
Yes, it worked- and I got 4G on my HTC One with the UICC (sim) card in it, and 3G with the activated LG G3.
But then i was surprised that when i lost 4G coverage with the HTC One it switched to 3G! Both phones were using 3G and only one of them was activated. Obviously the HTC one was not capable of voice calls.
It seems like the UICC allows for authentication to the 3G network using the new eHRPD standard, while the phone without the card authenticated with the usual CDMA meid over the EVDO rev.A
Just wanted to share my findings. Pretty surprised. lol

I wonder if you would incur any charges from Sprint? I am in the same situation, in using my old s3 for tethering. If your method works and no additional charges, I will activate my g3 back on my plan and just take the sik card out of it and stick it in the s3 for tethering. Nice find BTW!

Q - how do I go about making my vibrant work on metro pcs?

Is it even possible? If so, how would I go about doing it?

You can't.
The Vibrant has a GSM cellular modem. MetroPCS is CDMA.
It's impossible to work. You might be able to get a Fascinate working on Metro, though... but why? Metro blows horribly and T-Mobile is barely more expensive for vastly better service and coverage. I pay $65 a month for unlimited everything except calling (500 anytime minutes).
Does metro pcs has 3g?
Op: have u looked into simple mobile. They are cheaper than metro pcs. And u will be able to use ur unlocked phone on their network.

MetroPCS has been claiming for a while now that they have 4G LTE. They even have 4G LTE phone.
Is it their own network, or are they using Verizon?
BTW check out Simple Mobile, supposedly they use T-Mobiles network, but not too sure if this is true.
Edit:
Wow it appears the 4G LTE network is their own, they even released 4G phones before Verizon. Their 4G map is not too shabby, I guess MetroPCS is slowly becoming a serious player.
ps...I know people who have MetroPC, and they have less dead areas than I do on T-Mobile.
Thank you gents. Ill check out simple mobile, though ive never heard of them.

Metro's LTE is almost fradulent. They have one phone capable of using the LTE network and it's a crappy Samsung featurephone (basically a Gravity T with an LTE modem and a slightly refreshed UI).
The speeds I saw while playing with the demo in the MetroPCS store were barely better than regular old HSDPA on my Vibrant. Definitely not better than HSPA+ on my friend's G2.
If you want real LTE, Verizon's going to likely be the only game in town until AT&T and T-Mobile get their act together, or Sprint tells Clearwire to jump off a bridge. And Verizon's first LTE phone is a seriously dead-sexy Android 2.3, 4.3" screen HTC superphone. It almost makes me want to jump ship and pay Verizon $90 a month for what I pay T-Mobile $65!
Well, I don't even give a crap about the 4g or anything like that as long as it works, what I'm more concerned about is paying 50 a month for unlimited everything.

HTC Amaze on Straight Talk-- ATT or Tmo sim??

Hi guys I an recently switching from Verizon over to Straight Talk to save some money. 45$ a month unlimited.. You can't beat it. Anywho here is my dilemma. I live in Michigan and out in the country on a lake where reception isn't that great as it is but it's still functional. I want to know if I should use the TMO Sim or the ATT Sim they offer. I already have a Tmo sim I can activate but if I do and the service sucks they said I need to change my number to get the att sim switched in. My question is will it give me any insight into my possible reception if I put in the sim b4 activating it and drive around? Bc it seems to show bars for awhile then just drop off and say no service after awhile for about 10mins then it comes in and out intermittently. Any insight is appreciated thank you!!
On another note I heard about some att /Tmo roaming agreement? If I could roam atts voice service all should be well right? Or is that not for mvno carriers? I really like my number or else I'd take the chance!
Check the coverage for your house so you can choose

I use my amaze with tmo sim on striaght talk and it works perfect! Everything is working great. I have awesome reception. 4g works great and I can tether my tablets and laptop all for 45 bucks a month. Took a lil while to get the apn settings right for everything to work because straight was telling the wrong settings but I got it right now and its awesome!

We all know those coverage maps don't mean jack lmfao. Hey gamble what are your apn settings so I can try them out and see how it goes. It has decent service with the unactivated sim card but keeps kicking to "no service" not sure if this is just from not being activated or the service is spotty.

Is there a data cap on strait talk? Also how are the 4G speeds on strait talk compared to the 4G on tmobile. I was going to switch to Metro PCs just to save money. I am getting tired of paying 210 dollars for 3 lines.

Consider looking into Walmarts T-mobile Prepaid 4G plan if the Straight Talk doesn't have good coverage.
$30 for 100 minutes, and unlimited text and data (5GIG of 4G data).
If you prepaid it with credit card, you get $5 off making it $25.
I love the plan, and only ONCE have gone over the 5G of data. Speeds average 2-6MB, and with good coverage up to 15-20MBps

I thought straight talk piggy backed right off of AT&T so wherever AT&T customers get coverage you would get coverage?

thinking of switching from simple mobile... do any of you guys have issues with throttling? simple mobile throttles same as t-mo does after 2GB... also, what SIM card do I need for it to work? I have an old at&t SIM and a couple old T-Mo SIMs... do they require you to use one of theirs? If so, where do you get it? I went by my local wally world and they only sold the stupid phones and re-up cards, no SIMs and the person that was available was zero help... any info would be GREATLY appreciated... I'm not too worried about the speed difference, I'm in a large metro area, so I'm sure it won't be a huge difference whether I use t-mo or at&t...
ok, well I found the SIM on their site, ordered it, got free shipping... will purchase the unlimited plan when I receive the SIM and will report back with some comparison (to SimpleMobile) photos... I just went the "unlocked GSM phone" route instead of choosing one or the other, which I guess means it's equivalent of going the att route...

Yeah..i did the same thing. Supposedly they pick best SIM for your area. I say if you know what phone you have and what service is better in your area, just pick it instead of letting them. I ended up with ATT and signal was horrible at my house, dropped calls all the time. So i recently swapped over to ST TMO SIM and it's been amazing. I had verizon and it was terrible (at my house), sprint was the worst, no signal whatsoever. I don't live out in the country or anything either. It's like a dead spot just at my house, my brother lives down one block from me and has verizon and is great for him.
Anyhow...ST TMO with a Samsung Galaxy Blaze gets 10MB/s down and 1MB/s up. Download speeds faster then my home ISP.
Only had ST TMO for a week and it's been alot better then ATT for me. So it will be trial and error. Whatever fits best for you, but what's good about it is that SIM card is only $15 if you have to try the other one.
Good luck!

I just bought the Tmo SIM, the ATT service was horrible (Orlando, FL) dropped more calls this month than I have in the last 3yrs... absolute SHYTE!!! FU ATT!!! soooooo happy that "merger" failed hard on it's face!!!
Just my two cents hope this clarifies st just pays Atat and t-mobile to use there network, servers etc. They can't alter it ie. Roaming agreements. So if you have.both sims try them both to see which works better t-mobile still gives 4g I don't think Atat can on st. Also ive changed a number from a phone to a sim while it was activated.

Important: When you buy a ST sim card you will have a choice between at&t or t-mobile networks.
http://www.straighttalk.com/shopsims
If you chose.. "Unlocked GSM Phone (Phone must operate in 850 and 1900 MHz bands)" this is the at&t network card.
If you chose.. "T-Mobile Compatible Phone" this is the t-mobile network card.
You can buy both cards and switch networks without losing your minutes or being charged for switching networks. In the your ST control panel both cards (after registration) will be listed as available options.

[Q] Can I Unlock HTC Evo 4G LTE - AT&T

Hello everyone!
I'm new here, and am in the process of buying my new phone. I was in the debate of the Samsung Galaxy S3 but I have decided to go with the Almighty One HTC Evo 4G LTE. I noticed it's special because of my own personal preferences, and due to the fact that its only available for SPRINT.
So my question is: Can I unlock this Almighty smart phone to be used on the AT&T carrier? I have AT&T and can't get out the contract until July of 2013.
Would I be able to use the 4G LTE on it and every other feature on the AT&T network?
Thanks

You cannot use the EVO LTE on AT&T because Sprint and AT&T use 2 different cellular technologies. Sprint is CDMA and AT&T is GSM. It won't work at all

Ahhh...I think the EVO Design had a GSM chip in it too, except it was the frequencies for the over seas carriers, so it probably wouldn't work either.

It's not just having a place or connection for the SIM card though. You need the right radio chip in the phone and it does not have it.

Nice, 20 mbs! That's music to my ears..
I have about 5 years with AT&T with 4 lines. I been with them since the iPhone 3GS (Unlimited Data).
Now they are changing customers plans without there knowledge. I notice my plan went from Unlimited Data to 5GB Tethering Data.
I called to see what or who confirmed this change, they said they did the change because they notice that I was using to much data for my Unlimited data that they have to change it to 5GB Tethering & charge me $15 dollars extra for any additional GB use.
I was like WTF, isn't unlimited data suppose to be Unlimited? They had no say bu that I was using my data plan to tether my connection.
I quickly dis-agreed and told them i will be canceling my service.
About 2 - 3 weeks later my wife received a Message on her iPhone 4s that she is using to much Data on her phone. If she passes 3GB of her "Unlimited Data Plan since 5 years" they will have to Lower her data Speed from 3G to Edge.
She couldn't believe me when I told her At&T got me for a sucker and they getting her too.
I have a friend that works for AT&T, and she tells me that Corporate is being shady with their service.
I'm about to go to Sprint today and check out the phone and see what they can do for me to get the "Almighty HTC Evo 4G LTE"
While still paying for AT&T until April 2013.. If I do get my line connected with Sprint. I will disconnect the sim from my iPhone 4 and place it onto a Motorola pre-paid "Backup" phone I have. And use that to Disconnect the Data Plan from that line in AT&T and lower my monthly Mins to minimal.
Just to go with Sprint!

So, we just have to wait for the hack to get it working on Sprint? Too bad we can't just shove a sim in and have it work like it does on AT&T and Tmobile. But, I'm sure the wizards here on xda will have a Sprint hack for it shortly...
I don't think its that easy haha

Hmm... No offense, but I have a sprint phone and sprint service yet I use only Verizon towers using a very simple hack. So, I can verify sprint and Verizon use absolutely the same radios. All my phone calls and 3G data go over Verizon and at 10 times the speed. When I remove the hack and go back to Sprint towers, my data slows down by 10 times and my call quality goes down. Now, I realize they use different frequencies for LTE, but Sprint has hardly any usable LTE anyway and where I live, I will be the very last to get LTE on Sprint if at all.

are you sure you are using verizon towers. From what I've heard, if on sprint and >50% of your usage is in roaming for 2 months, they will end your service.
Also, sprint phones with lte use embedded sims, I think they are device specific, but maybe not. But how are you going to get that sprint sim, and no promises that the sprint sim will be recognized by the verizon phone.

Yes, I've been using Verizon towers for almost a year now, but I'm very careful to not go over 1GB data per month. Most of my data is over WiFi, and then use Verizon 3G when not near WiFi. My phone roamed over 50% of the time before I did the hack anyway. I do all app downloads and upgrades over WiFi only. Anyway, if Sprint does use an embedded sim, then maybe it's not possible, just seems like there should be a way because Verizon and Sprint both use compatible CDMA and 2G/3G Radios.

But with the way CDMA works with Sprint and Verizon, the phone has to be added to the carrier's device database in order to natively work on the network (and not be forced into roaming via a hack). Sprint won't add a Verizon phone to their database, nor will Verizon add a Sprint phone to their database. That's the main reason it won't work through legitimate means (and, as already mentioned, they use different LTE bands, so LTE won't work either).
So, in reality, there's no legal way to get the DNA fully working on Sprint.

Verizon lg g3 on T-Mobile will ROM help

I just recently got Verizon lg g3 and I am tryint to get LTE, but nothing has worked changed APN and network settings. Only getting edge speeds.
I am Wondering if there is a custom ROM that I can add to the Verizon lg g3 in order to get T-Mobile LTE coverage.

Make sure you have the LTE apns for T-Mobile. If that doesn't work. Maybe you live in an area where the T-Mobile bands supported by the Verizon G3 doesn't exist
I get LTE in the RDU area of NC, or H, but down east along the coast I pretty much only get EDGE. Same thing though on my One Plus One, So it's just T-Mobile.

I don't know if it has anything to do with cloadyfa's 4.4.2 international Rom, but I had multiple problems with running my phone on ATT (no mms while connected to Wi-Fi, constant data/connection loss resulting in missed/late texts and missed calls as well.) Anyway, long story short, I never got lte anywhere in my small town even tho my other 2 phones got lte just fine. After flashing his ROM, I never have data, mms or call problems. It honestly feels like this phone was made for ATT now. Data connected as soon as the phone booted too. No need for manual apn input!
