Getting back to stock - Verizon LG G3

So my phone recently started bootlooping at the Verizon logo, so I did a factory reset. When the phone booted up, I was greeted with the Setup Wizard. However, Android UI kept force closing, rendering the phone useless. I could not get past the first setup screen. I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089 to try to get back to stock. I installed the drivers and LG Flashtool, but when I plug my phone into the computer in Download Mode, it does not show up under Ports in Device Manager, as stated in step 10 of the guide. Instead, my device manager looks like the attached picture. Because of this, my phone cannot be recognized by LG Flashtool, and I cannot get back to stock. How do I fix this problem? All help is appreciated.

This is the exact process I tried. My problem is that the phone does not appear under ports, it appears under "Other devices". This means that I cannot change the port to COM41, and cannot use LG Flashtool to get back to stock.

What drivers did you use? Try to use the verizon ones in the ioroot thread. Think that's what I used and it worked.
Also, while in download mode, I had to unplug, then plug back in for the phone to show in ports.
Good luck. Once you get there, it's easy.
I used this guide

What did you do that essentially soft bricked your G3?? Just curious is all. I know playing with any DPI below 530 can do it and obviously removing things needed in TiBu.... Among many other things..

I applied some build.prop tweaks. I changed the DPI to 560 and also made it so that multi-window could be used with any apps. I rebooted to apply the tweaks, and it boot looped. Here's the thread I got the tweaks from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2825693

I used Textdroider_DPI from Play store and set it to 530 . Also the LG Flex Multi Window mod works. It's an installable apk that let's you just pick and choose which apps you want to include in the multi window. You should try those if you haven't already fixed yourself up.

I rooted my lg on my computer, but I have not connected it since. Everytime I try, it says it does not recognize , that one of the USB devices has malfunctioned. I have installed the lg USB driver 3 different times and still can't get it, I have tried all 5 USB ports I have, same thing. Any ideas

Have you uninstalled the drivers?
If not, with the phone plugged in, go to device manager, find the device, uninstall it, unplug and then replug in your phone.
Yes I did, I'm very computer literate. Turns out a cable can't tell you its bad, the original cable seem to be the problem. Probably why sometimes I get slow charge when plugged into the wall. All may be null and void when I attempt n4 conversion lol , wish me luck!

Good luck. I recommend having LGNPST prepped to revert to stock, with the DLLs and the BIN/TOT version of the LG ROM. AFAIK, that's the only way to get back, because of how extensive the N4 conversion is. Reverting with a ZIP ROM in CWM is unlikely to work.
Yah , I think I'm going to give up on trying, between the cable thing, now I can only talk to my phone through adb, fast boot won't seem to work. Plus I can't find a lgnpst guide anywhere for our phone. No idea where to get the DLL I'm supposed to flash with, nor where to get the files to flash back. This is my first lg, I've been a HTC guy, so I know nothing about lgnpst. Thanks though

That's the #lg-optimus-g channel on Freenode.
Yes, the DLL refers to "LS970," but it works fine with the E970.
To obtain the files listed in the first four steps, I just Googled them and found Dropbox links.
The TOT/BIN file in question would be this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984545
It will take a while to download; the server appears to average 100 KB/s.
As you can seee, it's kind of a pain to set up LGNPST's environment correctly. I recommend taking all of those files and backing them up to a secure location, so that you never need to hunt them down and re-download them again.
The guide also doesn't mention that your phone needs to be in Download Mode to interact with LGNPST. This is achieved by turning the phone off, plugging it into your computer with a USB cable, then holding down the power button and both volume buttons at the same time until the Download Mode indicator shows up on your screen. It may take several attempts; the process appears to have a low tolerance for poor button press timing.
LGNPST will interact with your phone even if Windows no longer recognizes it. I think that's why it remains popular as a last-resort recovery method.

Everything you need is on Team Nocturnals website where the conversion thread is minus lgnpst and the nexus 4 drivers.
After you flash the n4 conversion, boot in recovery and then install the nexus 4 universal naked drivers (Google it, should be the first xda link.) Then you can use adb to fast boot -w and flash a recovery. Just read a little more and you'll realize its not hard at all. Just make sure everything is prepared. Good luck if you try it. It was very interesting to me. I've gone back to stock and came back to the conversion after the sdcard fix

Right now the problem I am having is getting windows to recognize my phone in boot loader/ fast boot which will prevent me from being able to fastboot -w , I have a thread on here should be titled fast boot and recovery. Posted it last night. I'm trying to make sure everything is ready, but my phone and my PC are just trying to fight me every which way lol. I'm going to try another computer and see if things run smoother, I have rooted and unlocked a bunch of phones for friends and myself on my laptop. Wondering if I'm just having a lot of driver conflicts lol
Its not about what you know , but who you know.
You might need to flash your recovery, and possibly lock your bootloader again. What I have seen over my several rooted phones is that sometimes when unlocking them, the binary code doesn't match up and will not allow the battery, USB port, and even screen to work with the software. Won't matter if you unistall or reinstall the drivers. Hope this help!

Which software are you describing? I have not lgnpst 'd anything yet, it does notice my phone both with phone on and connection settings to lg software, and in download mode. The problem I am currently stuck on is getting my PC to notice my phone in boot loader so I can't use any fb commands. I can talk to my phone when its on through adb commands no problem.
I dont want to get in trouble, the original problem was I could not get windows to notice my phone at all. I fixed that by trying a different USB cord, apparently my original is failing. If you would like to help me more so I don't get yelled at, please post in my other thread titled fast boot and recovery in the qa thread. I really want to attempt this, its my bday. [SOLVED] Bypass LGsetupwizard!

I was wondering how to this.
I was flashing Killjoy's performance scripts (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2411161). After flashing the file and choosing to reboot, for dumb reasons I chose to disable recovery flash when it asked to reboot. Now, when I go to LG setup, once I'm done, I get the message that "lg setup wizard has stopper working" and loops me back to the start of the setup. Please help!:crying:
I know L9 is virtually unbrickable. I just need to be pointed in the right direction and I know I can bring it back!
Edit: Issue resolved!
Did you by any chance uninstall it using titanium backup or similar? Try to get a logcat.

Yea, this is the case. Can't get out of it. I really don't know how in the world did it uninstall itself. I didn't use Titanium Backup at all. After flashing the killjoy zip file, I chose to reboot. I then got a warning:
"ROM may flash stock recovery on boot. Fix? THIS CAN'T BE UNDONE" I then get 3 options to chose from: "No", "Yes - Disable recovery flash, "++Go Back++
I chose yes, and then all went haywire. Is there a way I can determine my phone's connection type via computer? I tried flashing V20D using the KDZ offline method, but it won't progress. It says "Phone not connected." Last I recall, I left the connection on media sync (MTP, I think it's its acronym). Since I'm on JB, I know it needs to be in LG Software Mode.
I have faced this issue too, even if I entered into SW Upgrade mode manually, KDZ did not detect my phone :/
However, I had success using the official LG updater software (connected my phone in SW upgrade mode).

Was your phone recognized by your computer? Because mine isn't. Think you can tell me more or less the steps you took to make it work?
Here's what I've tried so far:
1. downloaded most updated LG drivers
2. downloaded official LG mobile support tool
3. ran it, no effect.
4. downloaded LG pc suite, based on troubleshooting.
5. tried lg mobile support tool again, no good. Said connect PC to internet (???)
6. tried LG mobile support tool from shtttps from offline flash method, no good.
7. Put phone on SW upgrade mode (removed battery, volume up, put battery back in) and retried offline flash method again, halts at 15%. Says that phone isn't connected. It was set on DIAG since it's JB software.
8. Tried recovery update, but phone isn't recognized even if I put IMEI number in.
Thanks!

Stuck on Security Error [HELP!!!]

I was trying to install a custom ROM and did not know I needed an unlocked bootloader, as I used ROMs on a S4 without doing any extra work.
Anyway, so when I attempted that, my Optimus L9 rebooted and gave me the LG logo with the "Security Error" words below it. It's stuck on that now. I tried using the LG Mobile Support Tool, but it gets stuck on downloading new software. The progress bar disappears quickly, so I'm sure it's not downloading.
I tried leaving it to download for around 45 minutes, but it was stuck on the same screen when I came back, with no progress bar. It can't be that it's taking long, I have decent Internet (150/75). I'm afraid of leaving it for hours as the device does heat up.
Is there ANYTHING I can do? I tried calling LG and the woman who was there to help me was rude and treated me like an idiot, only to give me the solution of sending it in. PLEASE help me!!

It's always best to include your device model when asking questions like this. There are four models of the L9 and the all have different quirks.
A factory hard-reset or use the 'Recovery' option in the LG Support tool. Only things I can think of at the moment with a lack of details.
Did you back anything up? If not, not much else to do other than try what I've suggested.
This post may also be of some interest.
Advice::
Never assume anything. Research is your friend I had an LG Optimus One, was easy to mod, root, etc. I bought this L9 ( P769 ) on the assumption that it would be similar. Boy was I wrong. However, I did the research before attempting to do anything with the L9.

I really regret doing what I did :crying:. It's definitely a huge lesson for me.
My model: LG Optimus L9 MS769 (back cover says P769?)
If a factory hard-reset means holding the home button, voIume UP button, and power button, then I already did that but I did not reach the robot.
In the LG support tool, after I enter S/W upgrade mode, it says the software version is V10D and that there is an upgrade available. When I start the upgrade, it goes through the first step but when I get to the second step, it doesn't download I think. I have an image but I can't link to it since I have under 10 posts.

So it's normal? The reason I thought otherwise was because when I searched, I saw 0 people with the stuck/long download issue and figured it was just me. I didn't want to risk my device even further as I am aware that it has been soft-bricked, so there is a little hope available. Should I let it sit for 3-4 hours and let it over-heat?
I attempted the fastboot method but my device was not showing under the Devices section. I do not have a "Other Devices" section when I get to the step.
I am trying the offline flash method now, although I can't find a working V10D KDZ.

As in LG Support Tool? No I don't think it will since your phone has been altered with unofficial methods. I could be wrong tho.
Just realized something else strange, IMHO, my P769 came with Android 4.1.2 ( JellyBean ) and you say you were on stock ICS?
Just out of curiosity was it a WalMart purchase? They're still advertised as having ICS 4.0.4. Last update I got was to from V20G to V20H which is what I'm on now.

I mean that in order for the KDZ flash to work you must do some edits in the host file so that you can do the offline fix, I did it but it won't work as the tool crashes while connecting to the device.
My device also came with 4.1.2. It did not come with ICS. But when I open the support tool it says V10D. I bought my L9 from an official MetroPCS store

Yep. Hurry up and right click on it before it disappears and select "Update Driver". You need to manually point Device Manager to the usb_driver folder in the fastboot tools folder. You may have to do that a couple times. If successful, unplug USB from device wait a couple seconds and plug back in. This will reinstall the drivers just in case they didn't take the first time.

I got fastboot to work!!! I got the inverted screen and all. Now the problem is that I can't flash the phone . I keep trying a KDZ I downloaded. The supporter tool provided in the zip keeps trying to connect to the phone, the UpTest one loads the new Support Tool and it crashes, and the KDZ UPD tool gets stuck on unpacking KDZ and says no phone found.

Bricked Tmobile lg-k7

Hello Everyone,
I have a questions and hopefully some one can help me out here. My son has bricked my phone and I believe it is a soft brick... could be wrong. However, I need to find away too unbrick it.
I can get into hard reset with out issues. however with everything I do, I can't get into recovery what's so ever. The phone just hangs at the loading screen. I have talked to my son in order to find out what he did and this is exactly what he told me
He installed king root and attempted to replace-kinguser-with-supersu. However when he installed the application, it asked to reboot the phone. Well he rebooted the phone and now it is stuck at the loading screen and wont go any further than that. He also told me that he did not remove kingroot prior too the reboot. Please help! as I need my phone for work.
I am out of options on what too do. I would post the guide he used but I am limited due too the spamming regulations of the board.
Any one have an idea on how to unsoft brick this phone? I am all out of options as the only two options I have are hard boot and download mode.

According to the good people here on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/qa-metro-pcs-lg-k7-lgms330-t3331678 there is only a paid solution at the moment.
http://lg-firmware-rom.com/download...330-dll-for-lg-up-unbrick-lg-k330-with-lg-up/
if it is a lg k7 k330 (tmo) i followed this guide http://www.repairshopusa.com/phone/lg-k7-k330-unbrick-method/
Thank you for the information. However the lgup application does not recognize my phone. Indicates that the model is "Unknown"
Guess i am out of luck lol
Not uncommon. Sometimes you need to unplug and replug the device back in or close and reopen the program.
Thank you for the information. Does the USB debugging option need to be enabled because if it does, I don't think it is as the my computer does not recognize my device at all. Under computer, it shows as k7. However when I got into the device manager it indicated "LGE Android MTP device".
No. USB Debugging only works while booted into the system or recovery. You must be in Download Mode for the LG Up tool.
At this time, I am really frustrated as nothing is currently working at this time. Possibly because the phone just went under a hard reset. I have changed the port too 41 and ran the flash tool and that was not able too pick up my phone either. Also, I can't seem to get the lgup to work correctly as it's still not working correctly.
I have uninstalled the applications belonging too lg, rebooted and then reinstalled them and I still get the same thing. I have attached screen shots below. lgup does indicate the firmware I need, however I can't get too it lol

If I remember right, you have to make it search for *.kdz otherwise it's looking for .tot files, which is why it's probably not seeing the firmware you need.

Yes you are correct. However the file that I have downloaded from the link below doesn't actually provide you with a kdz file. The file provided you the files that have been extracted from the kdz file, which are the (LGK330.dz) file
Ah, weird. Never worked on an LG that didn't use .tot, .kdz, or .bin files. I guess just search for *.dz and it should load according to the link the other guy put up.

How To Remove Root or Unbrick LG K20 PLUS (Metro PCS)

Steps:
1. Turn Off Any Virus Protection Software
2. Download MP26010j_00_0316.kdz To Flash Your Phone Back To Stock
3. Install LGMobileDriver_WHQL_Ver_4.2.0.exe
4. Next Install LGUP_Store_Frame_Ver_1_14_3.msi
5. Make Sure That You Have Your Phone Connected (Take Battery Out Then Put It Back In Hold Volume Up And Connect With Micro USB) So LGUP Can Be Able To Recognize It
6. Then Double Click UPPERCUT.exe to open up LGUP Now But Only Thing Is That Uppercut will try to verify just ignore and if it doesn't open up just open lgup from desktop and its going to view phone as unknown
7. Unplug Phone But Keep LG Download Mode On And Exit LGUP
8. Open LGUP First And Then Connect Phone Which Should Recognize Phone As MP260
9. Click Upgrade, Make Sure That Bin Is Checked And Select File MP26010j_00_0316.kdz To Flash And Click Start
10. Your Done! Video Coming Soon

Looked and saw two links for the newest kdz. I'm in the USA so TMO =north america.
But I 'm curios what TMI stands for, no info on that page of region listings.

Not sure about TMI, use TMO North America
I figured I'd post this here to, because I am thinking about getting this phone. It's $99 at metro pcs right now, that's really hard to pass up.
In a twrp+root thread there are some that cannot get root, with the last LG firmware update, so I'm guessing this is a soft brick as apposed to a hard brick.
So, had a question.
If in the case of the like 10% of the people that do this root, the phone won't root or bricks, if I get this phone and and that happens, is it possible to flash the phone via the LG program, with a KDZ file and go back to stock like in this thread? If so I will probably buy this phone tomorrow (crosses fingers the kdz trick will work)
From looking at the videos, it looks as if the LG program is similar to the Samsung Odin program as far as flashing goes, am I correct in this?

I know this thread has not been active for a while. However I have a Metro LG K20 Plus phone and want to change the firmware to T-Mobile. I have not been successful doing this as I always get invalid firmware, because LG UP recognizes the phone as a metro phone. Is there a way to succeed in getting the T-Mobile firmware on the phone?
thanks in advance.

Did you find any answers to this? I have one that is bricked. It will not show up when connected to a computer at all
Virus warning from Avira in Uppercut
lg k20 plus soft bricked?
So I've searched high and low and have tried suggestion after suggestion with no avail. To start things off, I have a soft bricked LG k20 plus. Everything was working fine until the other day when I went to flash a kernel, and when the phone restarted, the screen was a dark grey/black color. I rooted the devices using massis method, removed SU and then rooted using Magisk. Like I said everything was working fine and for whatever reason I decided to try a different kernel. That's when it all went downhill. So now when I turn the phone on, the screen is still blank but it vibrates. When I've connected it to a computer, on my Mac it doesn't show up with ADB or FASTBOOT but in my device tree it comes up as LGE Android device. I borrowed my friends laptop since it runs windows, and my Mac is a dinosaur. ADB doesn't pick it up either, but in a USB hub it says the same thing, LGE Android device and lower down it comes up as TP-LINK. Now tryin to use LG Flash tools doesn't work, LGUP doesn't see my device, and when I tried to extract the KZD file, when I go to select it from the list there is no file to choose. Since I can't see anything on my screen, I can't tell if I'm in download mode, bootloader, etc, but in my device tree sometimes my phone will pop up an bootloader interface and I can use fastboot commands. When I was last able to see my screen, yes, USB debugging was on, I had a recovery, but since I can't see anything on my screen I can't seem to boot into recovery. If I could I would wipe cache and all. I think I may have read too many article and suggestions as to what to do because nothing seems to be working, and don't seem to find anything else related closely enough to my issue. Anyone have a clue as to where I should start? I'll have to give my friend back her laptop soon, and since my mac is so old, and the whole PC vs Mac feud, my computer won't be of much help. Any advice my hair strands would greatly appreciate before they rest are pulled out lol
