[SOLVED] ASUS PadFone X Tablet Dock Won't Respond - Asus Padfone X and S

Hi. My name is Grayson Peddie and I am having a major problem with my tablet dock. My smartphone is working just fine. There are no damages to either the tablet or the dock. I would also say that the internals of the smartphone is fine, too, but about the tablet, here goes my explanation:
I purchased ASUS PadFone X as of July 1, 2014 and received it a couple of days later and I loved it. The tablet dock worked meaning my smartphone vibrated when plugged into the dock until now, when the dock starts to become less responsive (meaning the backlight stays on after a phone is removed) and then it went dead on me with no light turning on when plugged into a dedicated USB charger. But before the dock went dead on me, recently (probably yesterday) the buttons in the dock stopped working even though the screen is on. So after the light and the screen won't come on, when I plug my smartphone into the dock, it's not vibrating. I remove my smartphone from the dock and I saw a spinning circle (dynamic display kicking in) until I see my Android home screen; the smartphone's Android screen switched on quickly.
So my question is, is there anyway to get my dock repaired? I don't want to send in my smartphone for replacement. Ugh... I have never need to send my Nexus 4 and 7 for replacement in the past...

Was your device rooted, did you disable any apps?

No, not rooted, but I did disable Browser Bar... I don't know what that is for... A couple of weeks ago, I have also disabled a couple of AT&T applications that I don't care for (FamilyMap, Locker, and Mobile Locate) and Beats Music. I'm not sure if a Browser Bar is an AT&T application, though...
But then I don't think disabled applications have anything to do with my docking tablet. The light won't come on at all when plugged into a USB charger, let alone smartphone not vibrating when docked.

I found a problem! If you drop a tablet dock, the back cover can become unsnapped even though it stays intact. Once I squeeze the back of my tablet near the center of the dock, lo and behold! The red light came on with the USB plugged in! I docked my smartphone into my tablet dock! My phone vibrated! The screen came on! YES! It's working!!!
Okay, so what I can say is this: Due to the lack of build quality of PadFone X Dock, care must be taken to not drop the tablet, or the dock will not work after a few days of use. Had I mentioned that I dropped my tablet once, I would have gotten an obvious response that I should not drop my tablet in the first place. Well, I've dropped my Nexus 7 tablet and Nexus 4 smartphone a couple of times and it is still working! Even my PadFone X smartphone, so why not the dock? I'm so embarrassed that I've started my thread about my issue. Embarrassing.

Issues with dock

I have this issue where when you pop the tablet into the dock either:
a) It will not recognise that it is plugged into the dock; OR
b) It will recognise the dock but the keyboard and/or trackpad will not work
It takes several tries of ejecting the tablet and re-inserting it before both work.
Anyone else have this problem?
Have you checked that the contacts on either the dock or the tablet aren't dirty.
I only just got my dock less than an hour ago, so I haven't really tested it extensively. So far, it's been pretty good. The only problem I have is with locking and unlocking capabilities.
The dock has a lock button on the top right, and it works perfectly. However, it won't unlock the tablet.
The workaround to this is to go to settings and uncheck MobileDock Battery Savings Mode under ASUS Customized Settings. This allows the dock to wake up the tablet by pressing any key, which I guess might come at the cost of battery life.
So I suppose I'm looking for a way to lock and unlock the tablet with just that lock key on the tablet, while keeping the Battery Savings mode on. Why put it there if we can't even unlock the tablet without costing battery life?
I'm having the same problem as well. My keyboard doesn't register has connected sometimes and sometimes the battery says zero. all the keys don't work except the top row. the mouse doesn't work. everything is crap so far. they better fix this...
I had the same problem with mine at first. I tried it out with three keyboard docks, all the software updated, tried rooting it/unrooting, factory wiped it, the whole nine yards.
Then I bought another Prime because I finally found a Champagne Gold one and was ready to sell my Grey tablet, and the new one worked perfectly fine with all of the docks.
It's an issue with the tablet. My guess is some flaw with the connectivity of it. Your best bet is to send your tablet it in for repairs from Asus, I'm sending mine out Monday and once it's fixed I'll be posting it on EBay.

I am having the same problem with the dock. Like you, i had tried wipe data, manual update through sdcard, factory reset and nothing works.
I was hoping the .13 firmware will solve this problem but i am still waiting for the WW release. Anyone whom updated to the .13 US release can confirm if the dock issue still exists?
I believe that its a firmware issue because "sometimes" by checking and unchecking the Mobiledock battery saving mode, i am able to "wake up" the keyboard. But it will stop working a few minutes later.
As mentioned above, I have found out today that it is the tablet's problem. I've gone in to memoryexpress by where I live and those guys know their stuff. They've seen it before and they said it's something that can't be repaired. So everything with the keyboard problem needs to send it in for repair (receive a new one), or refund/exchange.
I tried my tablet with 3 brand new docks, all with the same problem. I'm glad I had the ipr on my tablet and it covers broken tablets.
I wonder how many people tried connecting their docks without removing the little plastic guards on the bottom of the tablet?

I don't think people are THAT stupid. The dock doesn't go in without taking it off. But I don't doubt your point there... we do have idiots amongst us
It OFF? there are 3 one on the connector itself and 2 more for the tabs on the end that line it up

I don't understand what you mean by 3 on on the connecter :S All I know is that there's covers for all of them and I took them out.

[Q] HDMI Output and Replacement Parts

I've looked through the forum and can't find at least the HDMI question I have, so new post.
1) I purchased a HDMI cable to use with the TP as I would like to use it as a player for those things the Boxee Box can't handle yet (Hulu Plus, Netflix would be nice too if it does 5.1). When i hook it up to my TV I get a picture at 720p, but then it seems at though my tablet doesn't respond to any input. If I touch the back button I can get it to back, but I get the same behavior if I touch the middle of the screen too. It's almost like the calibration is messed up if I have it output to TV. I've turned it up to performance mode and same issue. If I unplug the cable I can use the TP again as before. We have 2 TPs and they both give the same issue, though one responds slightly better than the other.
2) A few weeks ago we were getting ready to leave, and in the mists of getting the kids buckled in the TP was left on top of the car. It fell and we didn't know where it was until we got a call later that night from the person who found it and was able to locate us. We thought he was being a good samaritan (who returns a $500 tablet, right?) until we later looked and discovered that he had tried to pry it open, probably to try to reseat the screen as it probably popped out from the impact. Right now only half the screen works, with the other half just a bunch of colored lines (though the touchscreen part still works perfectly...it takes a couple of tries to unlock it).
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew where I may get a new screen? ASUS just got back to me and I haven't contacted them yet, but I was hoping I could see what prices may be for a replacement before calling them and seeing what they would charge.

Mobile data connection lost!

This is my second padphone in 3 weeks and both devices have lost mobile data connection. The first time AT&T told me it was because of a crack on the screen. Made no sense but I paid the 200$ for insurance and got it replaced now the replacement is doing the same thing. For no reason at all I will loose all connection and the phone says no service and then comes back after a random amount of time.
Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?

Not at all. Sorry.
I had the same problem too. Just change the sim card to a new one and it will be alright again
Have you updated the IMEI with at&t? I had some small issues with my data until I updated. Tether didn't work either. It would give my computer an IP but wouldn't pass traffic.

Did you lose power first? Were you in tablet mode when it happened? You should check out the "Phone Died" thread and contact [email protected] You are not alone and this seems to be a fairly widespread issue. It was not the crack on the screen. Scott's email is [email protected].
Same issue as modirator

Yes the phone was in the tablet while charging. This happened to me 3 times. 1st device I had taken the phone out of the charger and it wouldn't power on until I connected the phone directly to the charger. But it didn't have data connection when it finally powered up. The 2nd device I disconnected the charger from the tablet then pulled it out but it still happened. 3rd device I disconnected the charger from the tablet and tried powering on the device through the tablet. Still same problem the thing wouldn't turn on. So i pulled the phone out plugged it to the charger held the power button. It came one and as you guess no network. But in my case I get no network at all. So if there is a fix please let me know because this is very frustrating. I have had 3 of the phones and all of them have now had the same exact problem. My opinion is that this is a malfunction with the tablet. Because from my experience it never happens when the phone is charging directly through the charging cable.
No fix yet...

Thanks Acriar for the additional information. So far every failure like this is pretty consistently in conjunction with the tablet. No, I don't have a fix. I wish I did, because your reply does not give me much hope for my third device. Again, let [email protected] know. Hopefully they are putting sufficient engineering resources on to this to fix it else the Padfone X's life in the US will be short at best.

Exactly my experience with the first phone. AT&T replaced that one. Didn't replace the one w/ dead pixels.
Similar problems with dropping network
I began having problems with the network dropping 2 weekends ago. I moved my phone from my pocket to the station, but the station never 'start'. When pulled out, the phone would not start. Neither was low on battery. Finally got the phone to start when I plugged it into the charger. That has happened a few more times since then. After that, the network was totally undependable for the night and next day, despite restarts of all types. I was on a trip, and when I got home the problem continued for the night, but then disappeared the next morning before I could take it to the ATT store. Worked fine a few days, then occasionally could connect and occasionally not. A restart of the phone usually gets the network back - but not always. My wifi connection has always been available when wifi was around, but the LTE is suddenly disappearing fast. Will send note to Scott, but wanted to add to this thread. BTW, great site. Thanks for the info here. Best padfone x forum I've found by far.

For those of you with this problem the answer is to contact Asus. From my analysis when I sent mines in here's the problem. So as you see from my response the phone was over charging when left in the tablet for an extended period of time. Well it's not that the tablet wasn't managing this charge correctly it was the charger as well. I say this because when they returned my device it was accompanied by a new charger, and yes they replaced the tablet as well. But there is a new feature in their UI that request you use the factory charger when charging your device while in the tablet. I checked the numbers on the old charger that i had from my previous phones ( the failed one's before) and it had a different version number on it than the new one they sent. I also noticed some of the AMPs and voltage had been changed. That all said I want to give a big thank you to Asus repair because they are actually an honest bunch, and here's why. So as explained above i, like many of you, have had several of these devices. Just so happened that on the third one I'd been working out on hot day and when I arrived home was still sweating. The wet sensor for the device, for those that don't know, is right on the back where your fingures rest while holding it. As expected I touched it while sweating and it turned red, was unaware of this at the time however. Soon after the third device failed and I tired returning it to At&t. They explained they could not accept it due to the wet sensor. I explained that the phone was not water damaged and the problem that existed was the same as the past devices I returned. But they washed their hands of it and would not take it back. On to Asus; they were taking my tablet in as an RMA and explained they could check the damages on the phone, after I explained my situation. They explained they would let me know the repair cost for the phone before returning the devices. I asked if they would take an honest look at it in this case, explaining that if they found water damage that I would fully pay for the repairs but if the damage was due to the malfunction could they just fix that. Well they, unlike AT&T, did just and replaced the damaged device. I must say it is very rare for a company to have such conviction to its customers and truly appreciate their dedication. And if you are wondering about how the new setup is after the update so far no problems.

And I agree- ASUS's handling of the issue wasn't bad. They even replaced my scuffed tablet dock back cover. But it wasn't the charger- mine went out while discharging, every time. Sometimes within seconds of being docked. I had two different tablet dock hardware versions and both failed on me. It was something in the phone's handling of it, is my guess, seeing as the firmware update seemingly fixed it.

[FIX] How to fix Moto 360 Black Screen/Unresponsive Button Issue

Hey guys,
I'm not entirely sure where to post this but today i had a scare with my Moto 360 2nd Gen as i resetted it, and placed it on the dock to charge however when i took it off again, the screen was just completely black and when i pressed the Button it simply did not react, i placed it on the dock to see if the indicator on the dock appeared in which it did
The way i solved my issue was held the power button for 30 Seconds, Once done i powered it back on normally and it worked fine. I hope this helped anyone who had an issue.
i have run into this problem really often - was sure that the watch is dead, in general i'm disappointed from the watch, its unresponsive, its reboots 4-5 times a day, it has tons of lag, it has graphical glitches, jesus it reminds me the early days of android. not sure who to blame?! motorola or android wear? its so far from a complete and polished product... the only thing that solves this for me is factory reset and after a few days of use its starting all over again.
I have zero issues with mine. Maybe take it back and have it replaced.
well, not so easy for someone that bought the watch from bestbuy when i was on vacation in the US, moto has zero presence in my home country, fingers crossed that it won't turn into 400$ paper weight
i do happy with the battery life
Have you even tried to contact them? Everything should happen online regardless of purchase location.
You should just contact Motorola support via live chat. They'll email you and probably ask for a video of the device malfunctioning to confirm the issue. Then they'll send you a code to immediately order a new device and email a shipping label. When you order a new device they'll place a hold on your card until they receive the malfunctioning device.

Nook Tablet BNTV650 Turns On Automatically and Opens Camera

Ok, this is going to be really weird, because I've never had this happen on an Android device before and I've had plenty of them.
My wife has a BNTV650 tablet that appears to really want to be used to take pictures.
The device is 100% stock and is running Android 8.1.0, Security Patch October 5, 2018.
We've had it for a while now, and as the cheaper tablets tend to do, the charging port went funky, which I imagine has something to do with the behemoth of a micro-usb cable that BN includes with it. It would only charge if the cable was leaning towards the front of the tablet, which as you can imagine is not ideal for anyone. So we got the dock to use for charging.
But lately, apparently completely randomly, the tablet will turn itself on and open the camera app. I've checked the volume key shortcuts and there's nothing installed that can use them. This happens when docked and when not docked, and is increasing in frequency as time goes on.
There is no physical damage to the tablet, and I can't think of a touch combination that would both bring the tablet out of sleep and open the camera. It only happens when the tablet is asleep and has been left for at least 60 seconds, and it can take up to 45 minutes to happen.
I'm kind of at my wit's end with this, and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
