When you are presented with two choices...
1) Flash A Custom Rom without a Custom Kernel

I would choose option 2

after rooting u need to flash custom recovery.
then install any kernel of ur choice.
i recommend francos kernel for performance
and
cavermans v3 for battery with decent performance
these are the steps you have to do to over clock
1) you need to install a custom recovery( very imp and a must). i prefer amonra v1.2 over any thing else. do not ever choose clock work its too complicated and buggy. please do not install Rom manager, its the best tool to brick ur phone.
2) stock rom canot be over clocked, u need a custom rom or oc kernal to overclock. choose a good custom rom( if ur phone model is optimus one p500 i suggest u to go for open optimus or devoid franco)
3) u will require set cpu.apk to set cpu speed
the detailed steps are in the above link...please collect all info about ur phone model and install the correct recovery for it

[Q] Need proper base rom to install a custom rom?

Hi guys just a quick question, I'm new to xdadev so sorry if I'm doing anything wrong.
I'm running a custom rom based on XXKH3 and want to switch to villainrom instead.
villainrom is based on KG6 so do I have to flash KG6 base then run villainroms rom zip? or can i just run his rom (after doing proper wipes) straight from the base rom + custom rom I'm running now (custom is ninmphetamine's if it matterS)
not necessary .. you can directly flash villain rom (after full wipe everything) because the rom include the framework and modem too.
(make sure you downloade wipe version of the rom because some of the developer also include wipe & no wipe version)

Custom kernel and Recovery

Hi,
I successfully unlocked the booloader and installed custom kernels from D4 and Slade87, however I encounter an slightly annoying problem: when a custom kernel is installed, I can't install new ROMs with ClockWordMod nor xRecovery. I have to reinstall the default kernel (thanks D4 for giving us the default kernel file) and then I can use CWM to install a new ROM.
Is this normal behaviour with regards to the development satge of custom ROMs? Or are we just a few people having this problem?
Same problem here. I've installed the custom kernel and i was not able to install custom roms. Was it possible for you to install any update.zip? I've installed the custom kernel 2 days ago and I remember I was able to install v3_wlan_update.zip through xrecovery But I'm not really sure about it.

[Q] Stock vs custom rom

Just wondering on performance between stock and custom roms. Pros & Cons etc
Generally I run custom roms on my phones (i9000 & I9300) but have stuck with stock on my tablet (P7500 currently ICS).
I don't want to run a custom rom just for the sake of it and if there are issues I would prefer to keep it stock.
anyway thanks in advance to those that can help out here.
Since you are already running custom roms i believe you already know the pros and cons between a stock and a custom rom.
Just have a read in the forums and if you find that there are issues in custom roms for this tablet just don't flash it.
Thanks and thread closed.
