Overheating - Asus Padfone X and S

The other day my padfone died, however Asus support was able to help me bring it back. Since then it has not had 4G LTE, just regular 4G. I don't know what happened, but I suspect over heating of the device.
I use my phone in a window carrier while I drive to keep it as hands free as possible. However, it is in direct sunlight in Texas heat. So with a temperature monitor, I see it exceed 150 degrees F.
I wonder if that is the cause of death earlier this week. Has anybody else see their phone get above 140 while using it? It doesn't seem to charge while in use in my car.

Mine did similar thing twice since June . My phone ran pretty hot . Then without warning My cellular and data radios completely died . At&t replaced it first time within the 15 day trial with a new one. The 2nd time At&t is replacing it with a refurbished. Will be getting it in a few days. The corporate store I took it to had seen this issue on 3 other units. They think either a bad batch of phones were released or Asus has a serious hardware issue that needs to be redesigned. They don't recommend the padfone to their customers.
If it happens again to my phone I'm paying off my att next balance, throwing it in the garbage and changing to another phone brand.

I noticed my LTE modem fried, but the GSM modem still works. Sadly, mine fried in 16 days and I had to call for a replacement. I used *#*#4636#*#* and set the radio to GSM only. It allowed it to work until my replacement arrived. Unfortunately I am stuck in a new two year contract and cannot easily swap my device. Let me know how the third device works out.

Amaze randomly shuts down when running gps navigation

phone randomly shuts off whenever i run the gps navigation app, is this happening to other people as well?
which navigation app do you use...
if you use google maps did u upgraded to latest from market...
Are you charging at the same time? Might be an overheating issue?
When I charge my phone in the car I lose GPS all together. Does this happen to anyone else? GPS works flawless when my phone is not plugged in.

Do you have Juice Defender installed?
Just got the T-Mobile Amaze 4G on 11/23/11; downloaded SportyPal (tracks your run/jog using GPS). While using Sportypal, during a 3-mile jog, the phone shut down once (completely off); then during a 2-mile walk, the phone re-booted. I called T-Mobile (on 11/25/11), they said it's a known issue (it shutting down) and there will be a software update issued in the future to fix it. I just switched from the T-Mobile HD2 (kept overheating at high use times while charging and re-booting); I'm in the 20-day grace period with the Amaze and wondering if I should trade it for another device; any thoughts anyone?

I just received mine on the 19th and had a connection issue. After the OTA nothing changed so I took ine back within my 15-day Grace period and got a new one...I would say if it continues take it back, you lose nothing and get another brand new phone...My thoughts.

You have a 14 day return or exchange period (30 days in California) not 20 days anywhere. If you are having issues with your device and you take it back to the store there will be a $50 restocking fee unless you get a nice manager who will allow you to do an even exchange and waive it. If you go the warranty route then you will get either a new or refurbished device but you will pay for the shipping $5 or $20 depending on if you have Premium handset Protection or not. Your best bet would be to go into the store and speak with the manager or lead sales associate and tell them you are having issues with the device and need to do an exchange for another one. Make sure they notate your account and put what the reasons were for your visit to the store that day just in case you have any further problems. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I did on OTA update HTC pushed and it didn't do it again...until today. But T-Mobile said they were aware of the issue, so I didn't think it was my handset. I got it via mail (from the T-Mobile rep) so not sure if store will take it back, it's been 12 days so far.

Screen issue

I've posted about screen issues before, but this one is perplexing me. My screen seems to decide when it wants to recognize when I touch it. I'll go to slide to change screens, and it wont accept it, instead it opens the app where my finger lifts off the screen. Anyone else have this issue, what could be causing it?

screen dont respond?
Do you have a app manager to turn off applications that are running in the background..sounds like over processing also a cache cleaner help too.
Or maybe its just needs a master reset and battery removal..
I've master reset the phone several times, still the same issue. I've used app managers, with no change in functionality of the screen. I went to sprint today, and discussed this and other issues I've been having. They ran the diagnostic on the phone, but found no problems with it. I talked to the tech, and he asked me to demonstrate the problems. I showed them the network issues, and they decided to order a new phone

My screen sometimes doesn't register my touch,.sometimes it gets so bad that can't swype, have to touch each letter key, sometimes can't even unlock phone with pattern lock, because it will detect the initial touch but when I move finger over the screen it is as though I lifted off my finger. will remove battery, reboot, but doesn't help, it resolves itself at random, sometimes it's out of wack for a few seconds to a few minutes. Tried master reset but still does it.

Sounds like my issue, I like this phone, but the issues are becoming too much. I'm having connection problems, screen problems, and various other issues. I'm tired of trying to fix them, and getting very tired of arguing with the sprint folks. I didn't even have this many problems with my evo or my hero. I have pondered switching phones, and have been eying sprints Samsung dual core phone. But I don't feel like buying it, I have the insurance on this one, and feel like with the issues I'm having they could just swap me over to the other phone.

Hopefully the next update will resolve the issue, I am going to see if I can write motorola, you should too, the more people the better.
It must be a glitch in the software

There is a digitizer pad underneath the glass, there is a thread here somewhere about it. It detects the heat/electricity from your finger. Seems that may be your problem BUT.............
It's obvious there is a problem, you have T.E.P, give me a phone. I have physically went into store 3 times in the last year and cussed (and I do mean cussed) someone out!! I did not have a bill on Photon until January!!!
I went to store on August 20th 2008. First thing the Technician asked me, "Have you had this phone for 30 days or longer?"
This Michael Vick Pit Bull 300Lb heffer told me It looks like I dropped my phone? (That was fun because 2 co-workers got on her before I started yelling and cussing! Everyone knows, I protect my toys! All of them!)
I'm in line and this 80+ year old lady's flip phone of 2 weeks had broken. Dude told her she had to send it back to manufacture and sent her on her way. I traked her down outside and asked for phone and receipt. Cussed his ass out, got her new phone (she was ashamed at language, but I got results!). I then sent letter to Sprint Executive headquarters with both her and my contact information! Free service!!!!!
The real problem is, all this stores are independently owned. Sure, Sprint gets a cut when they sell a phone. But your store only makes money when that store sells a phone. So therefore, giving you a Photon is giving away $630.00 to them. The $7.15 p/hr a**hole will do anything for you to go home and call sprint and work out replacement directly with them, not the store!
Stay strong!!!
There's been other problems than just this, I'm getting tired of dealing with the crap. We've had billing issues, phone issues, customer support (or lack thereof) issues. . . I'm just ready for a change.

I use a lot of data, so can't afford other carriers data plan, some "unlimited" plans throttle you after 2 or 5 gigs, I had t mobile hey throttle you after 5 gigs. So I will put up with the screen issues for a bit. Since many people are having this issue then probably getting another photon won't help?

Where did you get your note and did you have issues with the phone?

I've been seeing a lot of people saying they have been having issues with their phones, others saying that they haven't so I thought maybe a little poll to see where you got your phone and if you've had issues with the phone. These are issues with the phone, not the seller, service or anything like that. Maybe this might shed some light on where the phones came from and if it's a batch issue.
**Update** to clarify what I would consider an issue is something that happens just to your device/small pool of devices that you feel was a manufacture error. This would include poorly built batteries giving bad battery life, supper sensitive or non responding screen to S-pen, phone really slow out of the box (talking unbearably slow, HUGE lagg while using it). This could also be the edge crack seen in some notes. this DOESN'T include an issue seen on ALL phones, such as screen pixelated on low res videos, screen not rotating into landscape on the main screen, low quality DAC to play your hip hop through in your car.
I played with my calculator and came up with some very rudimentary figures given the current poll and total votes. I still can't believe only 33 people bought the note who is on this forum, but live and learn I guess.
total count at the time I did this: 33
Had issues: 9 27%
no issues: 24 73%
Bestbuy percentages: had issues 44%, no issues 56%
AT&T online percentages: had issues 25%, no issues 75%
AT&T in store percentages: had issues 12%, no issues 88%
amazon percentages: had issues 00%, no issues 100%
Other percentages: had issues 29%, no issues 71%
Projected safest place to buy phone compared to locations figures AT&T in store at 21.21%, 88% compared to all devices purchased just at AT&T in stores
I know amazon has a 100% no issues according to my calculations, but that's only because there was only one person who bought it from amazon. If we got more people taking the poll we could probably get a more accurate picture painted of this. But this will have to due.
Just to start us off, I got mine at Sam's Club on the day of the release, have had zero problems related to virtually anything.
Got mine at an attempt store close by. No issues. Everything has run perfectly. I I have a white one and also don't have that micro hair cracked everyone complains of

Sorry for the slow reply, work, then honeydo list and then an unrully freshly neutered cat.
What I mean by issues is anything that you would consider a flaw in the manufacturing of the product such as the cracked white bezel, or a bad battery or the infamous black crush. Basically something went wrong while it was being built causing it to not preform up to what it was designed to do.
My intention of this thread was to build a large enough sample size that we could possibly see trends of where potential issues are coming from and basically if it's a crapshoot if new people will get a bad device.
Also I know there's more than 15 people who's bought the note and use this board. This thread isn't for me, or you, but any future purchasers of the note and maybe even help identify to the existing users if they should expect to see issues. So come on, pipe up in the poll and help everyone out
got mine at best buy 4 days after release, had lag issues(bad camera lag) but a factory reset fixed it.

I'm with you. Got my first Note at Best Buy Mobile. I had previously gotten two other phones with BB (EVO 4G & 3D) with zero issues. My original Note had issues, the biggest one being random reboots. Making a very long story short... after visiting THREE different BB trying to get them to honor AT&Ts 30-day hassle free replacement policy and BB giving me a bunch of lip service and excuses as to why they couldn't/wouldn't do it, I finally contacted AT&T and they did a special arrangement to let me go in to an AT&T Store and get a brand new replacement Note. So far it's between virtually flawless. Don't think I'll be using Best Buy ever again.

Purchased the 16GB white about a week and half after it came out from an AT&T store and have had no issues with it.
Purchased through at&t online. No issues so far.

[Q] Help.. phone won't turn on (can be reset)

I have a stock Sprint Evo 4G LTE (hardware 003) that I got from Amazon Wireless on Sept 1st. Never dropped or got it wet.
A couple weeks ago the phone wouldn't turn on after going to sleep. I was able to reset it holding the Power button down and the problem went away.
Then it happened again.
Yesterday, it went bad. I can reset it if I hold power button long enough, but then after a while it just dies again. I pulled SD card and did factory reset and turned off Fast Boot and Battery Saver, all to no avail. If I set it to never go to sleep (Display options) and never turn off display when charging, I can use it - sometimes for an hour or two, sometimes for ten minutes, but inevitably the screen turns black. Often it happens when I plug it in charger, although sometimes it just charges. Basically, the phone is unusable.
I think it started happening after one of the updates from HTC.
So, can someone help me. I do not have TEP and I need to know what my options are.
It really looks to me like some OS glitch. Is there a known fix for that ? I found a lot of people with this issue but no mention of cause or fix.
If I have to get it repaired, should I send it to HTC or try Sprint repair center ? Any ideas of the HTC warranty repair center trustworthiness ? I would hate to send the phone to them, wait for a couple of weeks and get a runaround in the end.
If I go to Sprint, what should I expect ? As I understand the minimum repair charge is around $35.
Thanks !
Take it to Sprint. They likely will replace it. Maybe charge 35$. Be leery of HTC repair. I have read they have really been jerking the int'l one X customers around, since those customers aren't tied to a carrier and can't return to a carrier.

Thanks. I will try that, I would rather pay $35 if the alternative is to be without a phone for two weeks. Is there any idea on what is causing the issue ?
Are you s-off?? Are you rooted?? What recovery are you running?? What all have you tried?? Have you tried running an ruu??
\Root-Hack_Mod*Always=LTE
Same here...
I'm having the same issue with my EVO LTE. I'd be curious to know if anyone has any idea what is happening. I've looked around online and it seems to have happened to a number of people.
I actually had to send my EVO back to HTC a couple months ago because I was getting pixel bleed on the screen. It took about a week and a half for them to fix and send it back. Unfortunately, it took another 3 weeks for them to register the ESN with Sprint, so I had to wait for that to actually be able to activate my phone. This was all accompanied by unbelievably bad customer service from Sprint in the interim. The only good that came out of it was that I eventually became so irate that they let me out of my contract.
So I'm leary of sending it back to HTC again. But I also don't feel I should have to pay Sprint to look at the phone and then replace it. Between the phone issues, the wimax and LTE that never came and the $10/month I paid to not have it, the awful 3G speeds, and the ditching of premier customers, I've pretty much reached the end of my rope with HTC and Sprint. And this is after being a loyal customer for 13 years.
Sorry for the rant, I can just empathize with your situation.

[Q] Bad ESN Rezound worth anything?

I just got my new Nexus 5, will be sad to say goodbye to the Rezound and this community. I didn't say much here, but I did read these forums almost daily.
My question is this. I've been in a dispute with VZW over what I owe them and have been having problems getting some things removed from my bill that never should have been there. So I decided that VZW is getting fired now that my contract has ended. Since I'm still disputing the billing, I know my phone can't be sold cleanly. So I was wondering if there is any value to it for use on a GMS network maybe.
The thing is in perfect condition, it's been kept in an Otterbox since day 1. I'll be selling it with the Otterbox defender, which is only a few months old, they sent me a brand new one for free when my old one had a charging port flap tear off. I also am throwing in 3 of the ExtMicro USB cables that are HTC OEM cables. You'd never know the phone was 2 years old looking at it.
Other things of note, it's S-Off, has all the latest radios, etc. I followed REV3NT3CH's guide How to Downgrade, Factory Restore, and fully update the Rezound so it should have everything current.
Not trying to sell it in here, I know it's against the rules so don't reply in here if you are interested, I'll probably list it on ebay based on what I hear from you guys. I just want to know if it's worth listing based on having the bad esn, the condition, being fully upgraded and S-Off and including the Otterbox and 3 ExtMicro usb cables.
Thanks
If you do sell it obviously its worth is decreased than that of a normal clean ESN rezound.... I can't say if gsm will still work or not but there are many uses with WiFi only options
Sent from my L1QU1D R3L4Y using xda-developers app
FWIW my 2-year Rezound contract with Verizon only made it to six months (maybe one or two more) before my place of employment closed down. I couldn't pay my bill any longer and the account now sits with a collection agency. For the longest time I did texts and calls using Google Voice and GrooVe IP on WiFi. However, I am currently using a ST AT&T SIM from a StraightTalk BYOP starter kit successfully. I have not attempted to register it on the ST CDMA plan so no input on that.
If you don't test it with a SIM, buyer should be made aware the phone may not work anyhow due to ESN... and even if it does get on GSM, data speeds on US carriers are restricted to slow 2G EDGE without advanced hacks (that still only yield 3G in extremely strong signal spots atm).
I've decided to wait until I get my billing dispute worked out.
I did have one question, I have my old Droid X sitting in a drawer, it works fine, but has some dead spots on the screen. If I activate that phone on the line my Rezound is currently assigned to, will that free the Rezound from my Verizon account so I could sell it, and tie my Droid X back to the account?

Yes, it should... that being said, if you are having a billing dispute with Verizon they may not be willing to change it, since this would require a plan change from a 4G plan to a 3G plan. You would have to call customer service and see.
