Chromecast working really well - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Accessories

After failing to find a way to watch movies, Youtube, Netflix, etc, on a TV without draining my batteries, I finally picked up a Chromecast dongle. I installed the Chromecast app along with the Avia Media Player app but none of my XVID movies would play. After a few attempts at ripping a DVD into different formats, MKV video with AAC audio finally worked perfectly. I'm now in the process of re-ripping all my DVD's into MKV videos. Youtube and Netflix are working great. Chromecast's screen mirroring is still a WIP but can be enabled with the MirrorEnabler app from these forums. The screen freezes for a moment every 40 or 50 seconds, so iscreen mirroring isn't suitable for gaming yet. After installing the Cast Store app, I was surprised to see so many apps designed for Chromecast.

I am running the mirror enabler on my 8.4 as well but have not notice any freezing problem. It isn't suitable for gaming but flawless for watching video.

I don't know what was causing the problem, but the freezing has stopped. Even when it was happening it was very brief (less than a second).
Do you have a black boarder around your picture when mirroring? I don't get it when casting a video but it's there when mirroring.

Yes, that because the resolution of my tablet is not 16:9.
If I use my phone (z2), which is 1080p, there is no black border.

[Q] Screen cut-off using hdmi

Is anyone else having part of their android screen cut off (just the two side edges) when they are plugged into the hdmi port on TVs? Any idea how or if you can fix that?
Depends on the resolution of your TV and the picture mode/scaling you have set.
TF201 / XDA premium
I want to be able to turn my screen off while watching a movie, is that possible? I have watched 2 movies so far and the screen stays on the whole time while I watch the movies, I feel that this drains the battery more this way. Is there a way to turn off the screen while watching a movie?
I have not yet found a way to do so
What player did you use? I watched a 720p mkv using BSPlayer Lite and I think at some point the screen timed out and the video kept going on the TV.

I tried modoplayer and mx player
i used mxplayer and my screen turned off but i was using hw not sw mode
A lot of TVs have "overscan" enabled by default, which cuts off the outer edge of the screen and stretches the image. It's a carryover from the SDTV days, since CRT TVs wouldn't display all the way to the edge and TV shows and video games were designed with this in mind. That might be the issue. There's usually a setting in the TV's menu to disable overscan.
When using Gallery to play video to HDMI, my screen actually does go off for 1080p videos (no mirror function due to the high res).
I still can't get more than left channel audio when playing an H.264 stereo AAC MPEG4 video out to my 2 HD TVs. My several other tablets and phones don't have this issue. I've tried with 2 HDMI 1.4 cables that work for the other devices.
If I play a video with 5.1 channel audio and run it through my AV receiver, the receiver detects the 5.1 input, but I get only left front channel out and sub. I'm still not sure if this is a defective Prime or a buggy implementation of 5.1 on the tablet.
Is anyone getting both left and right channel audio when plugging the Prime into an HD TV?
i'm actually not being able to see anything on my tv, am i doing or missing something wrong?
I've got both side speakers working on my TV. I have a samsung sound bar hooked up to my tv and it sounded awesome last night while watching my movie.
Cuyabro, the only thing I did was plugged the HDMI cable to my TV and TP and it worked. I didn't do anything special.
Tried rebooting the tablet and unplugging-replugging the cable, cuyabro?

Video playing issue

I bought Asus transformer prime, but after week i noticed that video playing stops after 10 minutes (up to 30 minutes) stops, Player closes and return to file explorer. I tried many video player but there is still this problem. I tried es task manager to prevent auto closing, but without succcess.
Can anyone help me?
EDIT: I tried default settings, but the problem still exist
i have the same issue maybe tegra 3 not supported yet on video playback apps?
Countdown for demandarim to come here and cheer things up
Try MX Video Player, by far the best video player. Works great on the prime.
I have used my prime to play videos of varying length and have not had any problems. Are you streaming from YouTube or Netflix? Or your own video? I am using MX Video Player and have used MoboPlayer. No problems with either.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Try DicePlayer Ad. It supports SMB. It's much better than an external FileManager because they open a second http session for the videoplayer.
with mx video player on non HD videos this happens to me, with H/W videos is fine but with S/W it crashes..
It happens in every player in every video(on sd card or through streaming)
Use dice player. Simply THE best player.
I tried Dice player too... but it still happens.
I have the same problem. I have used the stock video player and MX video player. I have no problems playing streaming video from YouTube. Or Netflix. But when I try to play a video that I have saved on my internal memory, both players close randomly. It may be oneminute in or 5 minutes or 7 minutes. The player stops and closes back to the video menu. It seed to always happen when I am playing. Video I have ripped from a DVD. It has only happened once when I was playing a video that I recorded with the Prime or on my EVO. Welcome any suggestions

Have those with these issues noticed it across all updates? Of the system as well as the respective apps?

Prior to yesterday's update I had played YouTube and Netflix and videos that I had taken with my Prime - all with no problem. I still seem to have problems with those formats. Unfortunately, today was the first time I have tried a video I ripped from a DVD. Several videos several attempts and they ALWAYS shut down before the video is finished playing. Unfortunately, Icannot comment on pre-.14 performance.
I haven't tested on any update other than .11 (I'm tired of using more battery than is necessary, I'm not moving off this update until I see a good reason... or get bored again ) but I'm so far 33:40 into a 1:28:05 movie and having no issues...

[Q] Embedded stream Player app?

Hi everyone.
I bought an MHL cable to hook my Galxy S II up to my HDTV thinking I could watch HD videos on my big screen.
This works fine for a video file I've already downloaded to my phone, but I subscribe to an online live sports streaming website that shows events in up to 720p resolutions. All the streams are rtmpt Flash based embedded players, unfortunately when I tried this I could only view the videos at the S2's native resolution, which scaled up to 40 inches looked terrible!
Also, I've tried loads of browsers from the market, but regardless of if I use 3G, H+ or high speed home wifi they all stutter/lag every 10 seconds or so, which tells me it's the phone, not the connection. If I tether my phone to my PC, I can watch the streams fine which again tells me that it's the phone and not a connection speed issue.
I'd like to know if there's an app that will detect when you play an embedded video stream and give you the option of viewing it in another player that can handle higher resolutions than the browsers can?
I've seen apps like JetVD which do this for YouTube videos with 720p resolutions but can't find anything that will work with other streaming video websites. A little help please? MHL cable is pretty useless to me otherwise!
Thanks in advance!

Choppy video out (using Slimport adapter)

I bought the (Slimport) nano.console (Analogix) (http://www.analogix.com/en/products/nanoconsole) on Indiegogo a couple of weeks ago so I could play recorded videos directly from the LG V10 onto my Samsung SUHD 4K (JS7000) TV. I was disappointed to see that the video playback was choppy. All ok on the device screen but choppy on the TV. Tried at 1080 p and UHD resolutions at 30 fps. I also tried using Miracast to stream wirelessly over wifi to my Chromecast. It worked. Looked like a bit lower resolution but also choppy. So, I'm thinking this issue is likely NOT with the Slimport. I'm thinking that it's something with the phone.
Anyone have any suggestions to make the video output smoother? I tried alternate video players, such as MX player and VLC player. Same thing. Thanks!
UPDATE 3/15: Heard back from Analogix. They indicate that this problem must be with the phone. They suggested making sure to close out any programs that might be occupying the processor. I did that and things look a little bit smoother. I need to play with this more when I get a minute.

Video playback not working

Hey,
I bought the 10" model of the Mediapad M5, mostly to let the kids watch videos during car rides or play games.
However, I'm experiencing some problems with video playback in both VLC and Google Play Movies. The video starts in both applications, but when tapping the screen to bring up the media controls, nothing happens. I can't even bring up the navigation bar to go back.
In Play Movies, after starting a movie, the screen dims down efter about 2 sec, as if the screen is about to turn off (but it never does). From Play Movies I can press the physical home button to exit the app.
In VLC, I can't even press the physical home button to exit the app; if I press it, the screen goes black and I need to restart the device.
I tested playing local files with the built in "Video" and MX Player, and both of those applications work as expected.
Edit: Testing some alternative video streaming applications: YouTube works fine, DS video as well (video app for my Synology Nas), Netflix is stuck at "Loading..." no matter which movie I try to play, not sure if this is related or a separate problem...
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
Thanks
I can confirm the issue with Google Movies. Netflix works for me as expected.
I guess it's a side effect of L3 only widevine level.

Thanks. I returned my device and will fall back on my Nexus 7 until I find something I like, where you can actually play videos.

If hou havent returned the tablet yet., it s fixed with update 8.0.0.123.
Widevine L1 and vlc working as it should.
Google Play Film does not work, but other videos work
I have (partly) the same problem. Netflix works fine, but Google Play Film dims the screen completely for all films. All programs are up to date, but still doesn't work.
I got a new Huawei tablet but the problem remains.

As @esbeone has stated, OTA update fixes the issue. I can confirm that also.
Problem solved
As suggested, I found the udgrave to the OS.
Android version 8.0.0.0.123 solved the problem, now all videos works fine.
