Android L - G2 General

Hey folks,
Do you know if there are any developers working on porting Android L Developers Preview to our G2?
It's just that the Nexus 5 and the LG G2 are very similar on hardware, it seems like it's not that complicated.
Thanks.
Please don't move the thread to Q&A, it's less a question and more a discussion.

you already have a thread(s) with this question and it's been answered just a few days ago...

I don't see even one.

latest is the thread "why no L" in q&a section, 1st and only reply says it all...

Well, depends on how difficult it is to port it to the G2. If it's difficult and could take a lot of time I agree with you, start developing a ROM would be a waste of time.
But if it's an easy work (as I said earlier, the Nexus 5 and the G2 are similar) then making a ROM that matches the exact one running on the Nexus without any more features, would be very nice and something to play with until the full version comes out. And my guess is that the full L will be close (in the way of how it works) to the preview, so it might help developing later.

I think will be develop L port for our device after will be published official L sources by google

I agree with you. It would be fun to play with. I don't see why it's such a pain to do seeing that the devices are so close in specs.

Giga they are close in specs with chipset and screen but they have lots of differences regarding hardware. Its also hard to port an android version what your phone doesn't have yet and also taking the risk to do it the biggest problems are the kerne i guess. It would be theoritically possible to just flash the android l from the nexus 5 on the g2 and it might boot but its highly risky and things like wifi etc probably don't work and it could cause screen problems like the stripes issue since we don't know yet what it causes to get like that.

Does this have working portable hotspot and tethering? and does the phone read the sd card correctly for music and gallery?
everything is working for me except the video recorder and some video play back is choppy. i was surprised by how good its working for me. Battery life seems to be good to.

Ignorance is bliss .
ICS Android 4 has not been released by Samsung .
XDA have a leaked ICS v KP8 Beat test rom not everything works that's why its not released .
You can install or one of the custom roms built around this . But its not for noobs and will of course void your warranty .
jje
I installed it 1 time and i was not happy whit it so i got back to official stuff xD
I found the latest CM9 build from Codeworkx to be stable enough as a daily use ROM. But I prefer TouchWiz to vanilla, so I switched back. It was very smooth though.
Bwahahaaaahahahahahaha Gold.

Why would you want to go with 4.0 when 5.0 leaked already?! Find it in all its glory here.
buddy do not listen to any of the above posts...here is a link to what you need. it is stable and smooth..trust me its my new daily driver. Click here buddy it is the latest build of ICS Link for latest ICS build
You are all gits. Give him a break, it's a reasonable question due to all the different versions flying round.
Try this thread.
Rather than being smartasses, why not give the guy an actual answer? If you think that said 'noobs' will be re educated by repeatedly posting that video, you're delusional. Either that or you genuinely think the same joke is funny after the 3rd time in a row, in which case, you're still delusional.
With this kind of attitude rife, nobody will learn to use the forum correctly or get the answers they want, creating yet more noobs.
To answer OPs question - no, there is no official ICS builds
from samsung yet. You're welcome to try a leaked build or Cyanogenmod 9, which I personally find stable enough for daily use. If you want real stability with every feature functional, however, you're going to have to wait to the official version from Samsung.
Next time, to avoid this immature nonsense, do a quick search and browse the development forum.

Some good points, however a bit of mickey taking should be expected
I am running the CM9 ICS ROM and it is very good even at this early stage. Bits like audio out through the Sammy car dock aren't working (as you'd expect) and the video issues are annoying but not show stoppers IMO so I'm using this as my daily driver for now and will see what the battery life is like.
The only real way is to do a backup and try it out for yourself.

I'll tell you why.
More and more people are coming to these forums, and disregard everything that's posted. They jump in, create a thread, ask the same questions, and expect us to do the work for them.
If this specific user took the 15 minutes to read, he would quickly understand that there are two versions of ICS for the GS2 - leaked builds from Samsung, and CM9. He would also quickly understand that none of these are "full working ROMs".
However, seeing as he couldn't bother himself for 15 minutes to at least try and figure things out on his own, I definitely can't be bothered to write a valid response and to encourage that kind of behavior.
The video basically says "search before you post". He should search before he posts. It isn't funny, it isn't a joke, its actually pretty sad the video had to be created in the first place. But it was created, and it does exist, and so I'll use it whenever its appropriate.
XDA is not anybody's personal tech support - this is not a 1-800 number to dial if you're having problems or questions regarding your device. It is, though, an enormous hub of information that is readily available to anyone who's willing to put in the tiny bit of effort required to properly use it.
Soulicro well said put it in a nutshell .

http://www.ubuntu.com/tablet Sorry to bring up an old thread but i didnt want to make a new one. Anyways i was interested in ubuntu because it looked so smooth and awesome. I was just wondering is there going to be an official build for the nexus 10? Is there even another version released since the preview? That link i posted at the beginning of this post shows the nexus 10 is the tablet they have pictures of on. The website wasnt very clear if there was anything out yet or not. Also would android apps work with ubuntu? Just a couple questions sorry for hijacking the thread but thought it would fit here. Anybody else interested in it and have more info? if there is then ill make a new thread in general for discussion.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Install - You can find images for Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and Galaxy Nexus there! Nexus 10 is already one of the devices that will receive official support ! Just remembering that it's not usable yet! I installed some days ago and it was still laggy and sluggish, at least for me :s

As answered already many times on Ubuntu Q&A: No! Ubuntu bases on Android kernel (which is also based on Linux kernel), but has many different things, including Dalvik (correct me if I'm wrong please), so it won't run the android apps.

OK thanks that was really helpful. I figured android apps wouldn't work after reading more about it. Anyways the interface looks amazing in the video and they said it is really easy for developers to get their apps working on Ubuntu as well so once the final build is released im going to install it for sure. It would be awesome if we could dual boot it once its ready. My xperia play phone has a kernel for it that can multiboot GB,ICS, and jellybean thanks to cosmicdan. It'd be awesome if we could get that working on the nexus 10. I think I'll make a discussion thread so I don't hijack this thread and spam it, but first I'll search to make sure there already isn't one
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
Its sad that they've dropped support for our device

Developers Mind

Hi Guys
This one thought has been going through my head all day and all yesterday, and when I say it to people with android device which is custom ROMed or rooted, they have a little chuckle.
Now don't get me wrong, I love that the desire X has a development team for ROMs and what not, and I love every one of them (xpirt, atis112, MaartenXDA, neXus PRIME and whoever else I missed), but I can't help but think this is what they think
"Alright it boots... lets do something else"

That's not true at all.
First of all, only one of the people you mentioned is a "recognized developer" and he is in school busy with studies. Dont expect him to work full time.
Secondly, I was a learner for just about everything but became RC here on desire x, not before. (Although you missed prototype, and xpirt and Maarten also fall in the same category, even higher then me, i guess.)
Thirdly,
you people got these fully working things
1. CWM
2. TOUCH CWM
3. TWRP
4. FULL SENSE 4+
5. AOSP MODS and ALL OTHER MODS
6. Custom Kernels (LOTS OF THEM, with unique)
7. MIUI (sense-based)
8. and many many many things i missed. (special mention to sense 5, apart from BT bug, which will get fix soon)
Above were almost fully functioning products. Now lets mention the rest.
1. CM9
2. CM10
3. AOKP-ICS
4. AOKP-JB
5. PARANOID
6. CM10.2
and many more i must have forgotten.
All of above was done by 1 dev, and others good at porting and compiling. Thats more than you should expect.
Your thread is not the first one like this. Sometimes people show amazement at slow pace, some show sadness, others are ruthlessly blunt and rude. I understand that. But what we need are more people willing to learn the stuff.
Everyone will work what they like... if i want sweep2wake on my phone, i dont care how many others want overclock or undervolt, i'll concentrate on it. and when i start work, i'll get plenty of help from other communities as well.
I hope you get my point.... for future reference, whenever someone opens this kind of thread, i'll copy paste this same post....
Or i'll ask a MOD to make this a sticky.:silly:

Look at this from another point of view, if you'd be the developer,
sometimes you'd be getting pissed when you try to bring something to work,
but it won't work after you've spent 3-4 nights, lets say a week at it.
They need variety too!
fixing bugs isn't just like catching them

Not being an ass or anything but that part was really pointless. If he/she could have made Roms they would do so.
And as for others that keep asking questions like this should really just buy another phone. And use Roms on that.

@iTz.Ranga if you have problem with devs then why don't you start your own development of a rom? I don't think so its hard enough or impossible.

I'm sure he didn't mean that he has a "problem" with the devs (and other contributors). More like wanting to know why so many roms are seemingly discontinued before reaching stability. And the simple answer is that these roms (PACman, AOKP, etc) are CM-based, so they cannot be stable until we have a stable CM rom
But attempting your own rom is also a good suggestion. I'm gonna experiment with some development/porting after exams, though right now the only experience with programming I have is web/database/object orientated (VB, ASP.net, SQL, etc)
Hope it's not too hard.

No. Pfffftt... Yeah you're right "Alriight it boots.... (Except you got the next statement wrong) lets go fix the bugs before we do something else" and NeXus Prime is right, almost most of the ROMs here are done by one dev Sense 5, Full Sense 4.1 and 4+. CM 10.2, MIUI, PA and more
Thread closed
So there is a member with one post deciding he has to judge the developers on this forum. That is exactly what we were waiting for...
This thread is extremely disrespectful and we can easily do without it. If you don't like the roms the devs offer here, proceed to make your own.
If you can't, just take what is offered or move on.

Lack of development support?

I got the nexus 9 when it first came out since I needed a tablet for school readings as etexts are so cheap. I was wondering since why there has been so little development for it? Its an AOSP device yet there are no cyanogen nightlies (no official ones at least). No franco kernel. TWRP doesn't even support a layout for the screen ratio. Is clockwork mod even supporting it?
There's almost no one working with it? Is there a reason for that? Does the 64 bit or nvidia soc discourage people or whats the deal? I know no one owes me anything, I am just curious why so few are interested on developing for it seeing as its a nexus.

@franciscofranco owns the Nexus 9, but he's said repeatedly that he won't be building a kernel for it, might be because he only had limited success with optimizing the Tegra 3 kernel for the Nexus 7 (2012).
TWRP not supporting the layout is just because there aren't enough 2048x1536 devices out there to justify maintaining a layout for.
The Nexus 9 is a trail-blazing device... one of the first ARM64 devices and the first one with a 64-bit OS, major under-the-hood changes (SELinux, etc) in Lollipop. Developers are probably still getting the hang of all these major changes. That and tablets just aren't as popular with developers compared to phones.
AICP is official ?
The reason cm isn't official is because there is a cherry that needs to be picked before build (as of now).
How dare you say lack of development support!!
OK OK JK did not mean to be harsh
I say its having good support
Alot better support than the T Mobile note 3
And nexus 7 2012
Also remember the butterfly effect / and telephone
If one says it does not have that good development
Then that one says it has bad development
Then another hears it and spreads the word
Then a dev hears all the news about good/bad
Then he says I better not take a chance
Then others ask the dev = butterfly effect / and telephone
Its like a self fulfilling prophecy

Does that make it non-functional? I've said to other people for years for other devices... that if you are spending so much time in recovery that it matters how *pretty* it is, then you're doing something seriously wrong.

Maybe because nobody perceives a need for it to be worked ON. That tends to happen when devices are actually done right.

Hardly. You just need to know where to look for things that are *TRULY* exciting.
Example:
http://www.cnx-software.com/2014/12/28/ubuntu-nexus-9-tablet/
I know I can work on a kernel. I have done so in the past. I was simply wondering why people aren't working on it since its a nexus device. I would also hardly say lack of interest is because its done so well. Every other nexus has oodles of support and I wouldn't call them all poor devices in dire need of improvement. I have had plenty of phones and devices and none have heated as quickly as my nexus 9 when I browse chrome for instance.
Also I wouldn't really say cyanogenmod automatically makes something slow and power hungry. Been running nightly cm12s on my oneplus one and the battery is great and have had 0 reboots so far.

Seriously? This is what you think of development. The quality of the device isn't the question here. This is a nexus forum on XDA. People are hungry for roms, kernels and mods and the devs love making them to make an already great device better. He doesn't need your hostility for asking what hundreds of people are thinking.

[Q] samsung galaxy a3/a5

sorry if this is in the wrong place, but i have recently bought the A5 (a5009) and have searched high and low on xda, but cannot find any support for the phone on this forum. As it is related to the alpha line, i was wondering if this sub-forum will be the place for news or ROMs for the A3/A5/A7? or have i missed something?
i feel its a great phone, but touchwiz is so ugly compared to stock android (in my opinion), and this could sway me away from the phone if there is no support.
i have noticed that it can be rooted already, but i dont see much point unless there are custom roms available or am i missing the point?
many thanks

If you can, return your A5 and get the alpha! . It is the value for money phone of the new series... It has 3x faster cpu and many times faster GPU and better camera than A5. :good::good::good:
To be honest, i don't think that anybody with some hardware knowledge will buy A5 or A7 at least until the price drops to adequate levels.
I don't want to turn this into a comparison thread as I just wanted to know where on xda I can find out about the new A series, but the alpha here in the UK is more expensive.
With my job, having an expensive phone is not a good idea as it can get damaged easily, that's why I went with a mid - range phone this time. I still have time to think though, so I may change the phone yet.
Has the alpha got many roms available for it?

There is ongoing CM11 port and there are 2 custom roms based on stock ROM.
And i think, that there must be separate subforum for A series...
If you root your phone you can remove samsung crap and install launchers... and you'll get whatever software experience you want, you just need to spend some time with it.
P.S. look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660354&page=1712 it seems thet there are several requests for A5 forums... Just wait (and maybe add request) and there will be forums for your beautiful device to!
thanks for the help!

i feel its a great phone, but touchwiz is so ugly compared to stock android (in my opinion), and this could sway me away from the phone if there is no support.
i have noticed that it can be rooted already, but i dont see much point unless there are custom roms available or am i missing the point?
many thanks
Dom

Exactly! I've searched everywhere and I couldn't find good resources for the A7 or for any of the A series. Like you did, I did find a how-to-root guide but I don't see much point either without custom roms. I was actually hoping for an AOSP rom too and this is usually where I find everything I need but there's no forum yet :/

In the post above mine there is a link for a thread that users can request devices to have thier own forum. I noticed quite a few people are now asking for the A series, so cast a vote and fingers crossed we get one
Has a thread opened up yet ? i did post a request for a thread , have found sources for KK kernel at samsung and have started building the cm12 basic's device tree. would like somewhere to document it.

I haven't noticed one opening up so far. There is a lot of call for one in the thread I mentioned. I'm assuming the forum would be announced if one opens up?
No idea.
congrats on the cm progress. I would love to test out what you have and having a forum would make it easier

I bought it for that reason, i have the hardware knowledge and it's a qualcomm cpu, i've requested a forum for A3/A5/A7 devices, i've got kernel sources and msm8916 device tree for cm11/12,
now i just need the forum.

@darkspr1te cool, do you have the sources uploaded? I would like to help out, I have the A500F.
Keep up the good work Darkspr1te. I am a bit of a noob on this and don't understand everything you say, but I'm looking forward to a mod for the A3.
Hopefully a forum will be opened soon.

Standard kernel sources can be found at samsung open source center. I have A500H/DS , sadly the sources i pulled wont even compile yet. Been busy on projects past week so i will only get into the sources again this wkend.
Still no feedback on a forum so i might hijack a thread here for now so I can at least start sharing.

Looking forward to a rom/mod for the A3!
love to see a galaxy A Custom Rom community.

you might want to start a thread on miscellaneous android dev.
Hello all, I have been following everything about the A3 recently since a cousin of mine just bought it; it´s so sad that there isnt a forum about this device. I would be happy to help on any new brews
It would be nice if they create a Galaxy A series forum. I have an A3, its a great small phone. I use it as my side phone(got a Note 4).
Recovery
Hey guys, I just found a Recovery, but it's Chinese. Working fine on A500M. Just flash with Odin. Now we can try to port Roms from other 410 SoC based devices!
ps: turn the phone on normally, and when the screen turn on, press volume down + power + home (yup, the same buttons of the download mode)
Srry by the bad english, I'm Brazilian
I was looking to get the A5 tomorrow...but the lack of a forum and ROMs is really making me hesitate.
