[Q] samsung galaxy a3/a5 - Samsung Galaxy Alpha

sorry if this is in the wrong place, but i have recently bought the A5 (a5009) and have searched high and low on xda, but cannot find any support for the phone on this forum. As it is related to the alpha line, i was wondering if this sub-forum will be the place for news or ROMs for the A3/A5/A7? or have i missed something?
i feel its a great phone, but touchwiz is so ugly compared to stock android (in my opinion), and this could sway me away from the phone if there is no support.
i have noticed that it can be rooted already, but i dont see much point unless there are custom roms available or am i missing the point?
many thanks
Dom

If you can, return your A5 and get the alpha! . It is the value for money phone of the new series... It has 3x faster cpu and many times faster GPU and better camera than A5. :good::good::good:
To be honest, i don't think that anybody with some hardware knowledge will buy A5 or A7 at least until the price drops to adequate levels.

I don't want to turn this into a comparison thread as I just wanted to know where on xda I can find out about the new A series, but the alpha here in the UK is more expensive.
With my job, having an expensive phone is not a good idea as it can get damaged easily, that's why I went with a mid - range phone this time. I still have time to think though, so I may change the phone yet.
Has the alpha got many roms available for it?

There is ongoing CM11 port and there are 2 custom roms based on stock ROM.
And i think, that there must be separate subforum for A series...
If you root your phone you can remove samsung crap and install launchers... and you'll get whatever software experience you want, you just need to spend some time with it.
P.S. look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660354&page=1712 it seems thet there are several requests for A5 forums... Just wait (and maybe add request) and there will be forums for your beautiful device to!

thanks for the help!

Exactly! I've searched everywhere and I couldn't find good resources for the A7 or for any of the A series. Like you did, I did find a how-to-root guide but I don't see much point either without custom roms. I was actually hoping for an AOSP rom too and this is usually where I find everything I need but there's no forum yet :/

In the post above mine there is a link for a thread that users can request devices to have thier own forum. I noticed quite a few people are now asking for the A series, so cast a vote and fingers crossed we get one

Has a thread opened up yet ? i did post a request for a thread , have found sources for KK kernel at samsung and have started building the cm12 basic's device tree. would like somewhere to document it.
darkspr1te

I haven't noticed one opening up so far. There is a lot of call for one in the thread I mentioned. I'm assuming the forum would be announced if one opens up?
No idea.
congrats on the cm progress. I would love to test out what you have and having a forum would make it easier

I bought it for that reason, i have the hardware knowledge and it's a qualcomm cpu, i've requested a forum for A3/A5/A7 devices, i've got kernel sources and msm8916 device tree for cm11/12,
now i just need the forum.
darkspr1te

@darkspr1te cool, do you have the sources uploaded? I would like to help out, I have the A500F.

Keep up the good work Darkspr1te. I am a bit of a noob on this and don't understand everything you say, but I'm looking forward to a mod for the A3.
Hopefully a forum will be opened soon.

Standard kernel sources can be found at samsung open source center. I have A500H/DS , sadly the sources i pulled wont even compile yet. Been busy on projects past week so i will only get into the sources again this wkend.
Still no feedback on a forum so i might hijack a thread here for now so I can at least start sharing.

Looking forward to a rom/mod for the A3!

love to see a galaxy A Custom Rom community.

you might want to start a thread on miscellaneous android dev.

Hello all, I have been following everything about the A3 recently since a cousin of mine just bought it; it´s so sad that there isnt a forum about this device. I would be happy to help on any new brews

It would be nice if they create a Galaxy A series forum. I have an A3, its a great small phone. I use it as my side phone(got a Note 4).

Recovery
Hey guys, I just found a Recovery, but it's Chinese. Working fine on A500M. Just flash with Odin. Now we can try to port Roms from other 410 SoC based devices!
ps: turn the phone on normally, and when the screen turn on, press volume down + power + home (yup, the same buttons of the download mode)
Srry by the bad english, I'm Brazilian

I was looking to get the A5 tomorrow...but the lack of a forum and ROMs is really making me hesitate.

Will the Galaxy S2 get CM?

I'd really like to get the Galaxy S2, but not without Cyanogen Mod support. What do you think are the chances that the Galaxy S2 will get CM? The Galaxy S still has no stable CM Rom.
Does a bear **** in the woods?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
Polar bears don't.
But why doesn't the Galaxy S have a stable CM ROM then?
Stock Media Codecs > CM
if they find a way to keep all the goodies from Samsung then I'm all for it
Frankly, I don't care about the Samsung programmes. If it can be turned off, then ok, but I'd rather have the whole CM experience.
This hardly seems like the right forum for this thread...
So what's the right forum, if not the Galaxy S II Android Development Forum?
Android Development should only contain threads based on actual projects/ROMs/kernels/etc being developed. Discussions about what may or may not be coming to the device should go in general. Best rule of thumb in my book: if you're not actually developing something yourself, a thread shouldn't be started here.
Sorry if I came off like a prick - I just know that this ends up becoming more work for the mods who have to comb through and move threads around.
Also I apologize for theoretically hijacking your thread - Just trying to help keep people in the know
hopefully it will get CM
i really cant stand touchwiz

No problem, I didn't know that.
Maybe a moderator can move the thread into the appropriate forum.
What I really like to know is why the Galaxy S still hasn't got a stable release. Is this also to be expected with the S2?

I agree. Good post, and yes, this should have been in General. Just keep that in mind for the next time We are all excited for this phone, and i personally think that Samsung stock ROM is also quite good. However, to each his own, and I am sure that CM will be out for this phone too
Cheers!

Moved to general
The SGS2 is similar to the SGS in many ways, therefore CM will be difficult to port over.
Especially that there is no Nexus S 2 (a lot of CM7 is from the Nexus S)
Don't expect CM7+ to be running on the SGS2 anytime soon, although it probably eventually will. That's unless anything else happen (a/a genius comes along b/samsung open source more stuff c/Nexus S 2 is released d/sgs2 shares even more with the sgs than I though and current work can be ported over more easily)
This phone is fast enough without CM7. A clean up of the stock ROM, a new launcher and its sweet enough!

It will still miss the CM Tweaks.
A shame that Cyanogen has chosen the G2x as his next phone. The Galaxy S2 is way better than the G2x.

i'm not aware of the history, why exactly was it difficult to bring cyanogen to the original galaxy s, and hence this SGS2 as well? wasnt it like any other phone, the source was released, and cm team built from that?

Buy the devs a SGS 2 and they can work on it . Bit hard to work on a phone you dont have .

Well, apparently they have a Galaxy S, otherwise there wouldn't be Release Candidates.

[Q]Is there anyone willing to port ROM/MODs for the GT-I9305

Hey Everyone,
I am very new to the Android Community. I have recently Upgraded to the UK Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE Ready International (EE/Orange/T-Mobile). I hope to have a few other Android devices in the near future. (Nexus 10 or Nexus 7)
I have to say I love it. After playing around with it for a week. I have realised how imprisoned I was with the iPhone even after Jailbreaking.
I am now thinking of rooting the device. I have done serious reading on XDA about the I9305 and people were sort of on the fence with getting it, as support for the development will be limited, the modem of this particular model uses a Qualcomm Chip. Obviously once more people invest in the I9305, more roms/mods will be ported.
I would love to see Cyanogenmod or ParanoidAndroid ported to this device. Only time will tell but I am really impatient. LOL
How would I get these guys to port?
What is the general waiting time with these things?
I don't want to come across as rude. To be honest im perfectly happy with the stock JB+Touchwiz but I love to tinker with things.
Regards
bleepsake
same here. cant wait for some roms to be ported.
by the way it was in part due to your youtube vid that i upgraded to this device:good:
awesome thanks dude. editing the review of this phone. the review is based on someone that wants to upgrade to an android phone coming from an iOS'ers point of view.
=)

I would also like to know how long it usually takes for roms to get ported. I'm getting my phone this week and I can't wait to replace the stock firmware.
If there is a big enough demand i can see it happening but maybe not roms like CM due to the fact they don't own one

Android L

Hey folks,
Do you know if there are any developers working on porting Android L Developers Preview to our G2?
It's just that the Nexus 5 and the LG G2 are very similar on hardware, it seems like it's not that complicated.
Thanks.
Please don't move the thread to Q&A, it's less a question and more a discussion.
you already have a thread(s) with this question and it's been answered just a few days ago...

Well, depends on how difficult it is to port it to the G2. If it's difficult and could take a lot of time I agree with you, start developing a ROM would be a waste of time.
But if it's an easy work (as I said earlier, the Nexus 5 and the G2 are similar) then making a ROM that matches the exact one running on the Nexus without any more features, would be very nice and something to play with until the full version comes out. And my guess is that the full L will be close (in the way of how it works) to the preview, so it might help developing later.
I think will be develop L port for our device after will be published official L sources by google

I agree with you. It would be fun to play with. I don't see why it's such a pain to do seeing that the devices are so close in specs.
Giga they are close in specs with chipset and screen but they have lots of differences regarding hardware. Its also hard to port an android version what your phone doesn't have yet and also taking the risk to do it the biggest problems are the kerne i guess. It would be theoritically possible to just flash the android l from the nexus 5 on the g2 and it might boot but its highly risky and things like wifi etc probably don't work and it could cause screen problems like the stripes issue since we don't know yet what it causes to get like that.

[q] Android 4.4 Kitkat, install related Q?

Hi Friends,
can I Please ask which Kitkat, I'd reckon the Korean official port, is the a best match for my Galaxy S3 i9300? I have heard that there may be some bits being odd but I am not all about the small details, I am merely interested into bettering my phone performance and overall output.
I hold ClockWork Recvorey 4.4 and SuperSu installed. Thanks for all in advance
Nvermind, I have had it figure out. Great job to all who did not step forward

5hrs is not alot of time to wait for support.
This device is old, All the maintainers etc have long since moved on. There is only about 3-4 of us who give support now. None of us are programmers and do so in our free time and this being a weekend and all.
Besides 99% of the info is out there like you proved and only need to search for it.
Certainly didn't mean to sound frustrating, didn't imply to say anything also, just I have no know idea about android developement , although I am CS myself. I just want my games to run smooth, not like the way I play civilization 2 rev on my i9300 now.

[Q] Lollipop from Note 2 to S3 ???

Hi everyone, well, Ive noticed galaxy note 2 is going to receive the last version of android (lollipop) oficially by sammy. I found the notice here in sammobile:
http://www.sammobile.com/2014/12/23...lipop-update-for-galaxy-note-2-and-galaxy-s4/
As far as I know, the international version of both devices (note 2 and s3) have the same chipset: Exynos 4412. So I was wondering if due to this we can expect to see ports from note 2 to our lovely s3 .
Is just a little question, as Im not a developer, and I read a post somewhere in xda saying it couldnt be posible to have oficial ports of the latest version of android in our s3 because of samsung and its no-documented chipset exynos, making ports almost imposible from other devices.

Questions go in the q&a area.
Hard to tell maybe, maybe not.
We already have developers working on a couple of LP's for our device, so I would say they will not port it anytime soon.
Either wait for them to be daily drivers or wait for a port.

Sorry for posting this here hehehe. I know the hard work from the developers as arter97 who has become a little famous, and Im sure we will have some stable versions of lollipop to our devices. Well, as i told you, im not a developer, but I want to know, it wouldnt be easier making a port from a device who has the same chipset than making a new AOSP based ROM?
I apreciate all the work from our developers and i dont want to question that, you have the knowlede and im the newbie who make all that dummy questions heheheh

Thanks for answer me, is nice to know Im not the only one who think that . All we can do in this moment is wait to see what happen, who knows, maybe we get oficially upgraded by sammy , anyways, we cant expect nothing soon, everything still under development c:
Have a nice day bro.
