Any word from Huawei on KitKat - Huawei Ascend Mate 2

I'm seriously considering ordering this phone, the specs are great but what's driving me is better battery life. I've got a Moto G, which is very nice; however, my battery life has never been good. (My first Android phone was an Huawei and I like the brand very much--my little ole Huawei is still running strong and serves as a cordless VOIP phone in the house.) Has Huawei made any announcements about rolling out KitKat to this phone? TIA

Huawei Device USA will not give a date because the big boys in China will not allow them to. But I know the Chinese Version of the HAM2 is already on KitKat.

kk isn't a deal breaker for me.
Right now, the Mate2 is performing without issues, lockups etc. Once/if kk is released, I'm going to hold off until reports
come back. I am getting to cranky to deal with bugs.

Thanks for the info. The lack of KitKat isn't a deal breaker for me, I was just wondering. I really want decent battery performance, good specs and a decent price and the HAM2 seems to fit the bill. The build quality of my old Huawei was good and from what I'm reading in reviews, this phone seems well built. I'm just about to pull the trigger on Amazon once I decide on color. (I suspect it will be the black one.)

Unless you watch video over LTE 24/7, using it as a phone, web browser etc....I get 2-3 days EASY on one charge. That, and the price are what
sold me.

As elpc has said, there is a KitKat version but it's for the Chinese model at the moment.
When I read the phone reviews on Amazon, one of the reviewers said he was told by Huawei reps that KitKat for the US models would come in either July or August.
I don't know if we'll get it, or when, but I do hope we get L!

Since Huawei is the 3rd largest smartphone maker in the world, why not?

Some friends of mine said you bought a Huawei? Yuck, it's a Chinese phone, they have spyware that sends stuff to China.
I simply answer...what ISN'T made in China, and what company, government DOESN'T spy and send data to someone?
I bought it do to the value, the battery life and the screen. No bloatware, unlocked for $300. Bang for the buck, that's what
I look for.

Exactly this. I'm pretty sure Apple and Google do the same thing. In fact, Apple just admitted to storing data in its Chinese servers. And some guy was arrested for illegal pornography in his Gmail account as well.
Hell, there's the US and German secretaries phone call spying thing too. Everyone spies on everyone nowadays. You can't avoid it.

Samsung $700? Battery sucks, went to downtown San Francisco 8am before even 12 from full battery to low battery warning, I returned it the next day it is been to me for a week so battery is well charge up.
HAM2 I tried watching Netflix yesterday just to test the battery over 4g, it sucks that I just got almost 10hrs may be 15mins short before battery is 10% left and it is just $299, did I made the wrong choice?
But if they don't update to KITKAT before September 11 I will consider returning this. Good thing I bought this on amazon, they pay back shipping you can't go wrong on what you buy.

I entered a chat support from Huawei and they told me KitKat was on the way but they coulndt commit to a date...
Aand as for L they toldme they would make an statement when its out :/

This is probably the best phone I have ever owned. I too had some friends ask about it judging it before knowing what it was all about, after showing them, I teased them for their overpriced phones with inferior battery life.

First , I am a Chinese, so I am supposed to encourage you to buy a phone made by Chinese company, BUT I don't.
Why? Because Huawei is really not a company to support , if you speak chinese, you can get a lot of negative messages from chinese forum about how they do business, bad business ethic, bribe everywhere, etc. You will know how we dislike Huawei.
China development bank provides a huge financial support to huawei , so that they can offer you a smartphone or network devices with very low price, the money actually is from all chinese people,
of course, it is your choice ,but as for me and my friends, we will never buy any products from Huawei in life.

It's funny, I never even gave this phone a thought when I saw the specs, but (now here is the really funny part) after reading reviews of it on the OnePlus One user forum, and the price, I bought one and was really surprised how well it works for having "substandard" specs. It's fast, screen is bright, snappy, no lag, works quite well and that 2-3 day battery is REALLY nice. I could give two hoots if it has the latest greatest OS. JB4.3 is good, not buggy and works. Smartphones are my lifeblood for work and 4 weeks in, this thing has yet to let me down.
I use about 1500-2000 minutes per month on the phone, lots of web use, email, text and photos, and it's great! People are getting hoodwinked by thinking they "have to have" a device with the 2k screens, latest OS to do anything, but all they are doing is wasting money and getting 1/2 a day battery life. Hey, it's your money, but me, personally, I'd rather have some value for my money.

Low sales of LG G2

The artical at androidheadlines says about significantly less sales figures of LG G2 in spite of being great phone. (I can not paste link here).
It says :
LG wanted to sell at least 3 million units internationally, too, but they’ve only sold 2.3 million, which is 20 percent less than what they were expecting to sell. To reach even those 2.3 million customers, LG had to increase its marketing budget, too, but it doesn’t look like their marketing campaigns have been very effective. Unfortunately for LG, marketing campaign effectiveness also depends on how strong your brand is and if you’re the kind of company that creates excellent products.
Whosoever has seen my G2 mobile felt that it is the one of the best phone which they also should have owned. However, most of them were pretty unaware (before they saw my phone) about LG G2.
What are the reasons do you all feel for low sales figures?
In my opinion, may be following are the reason for its poor sales,
1) Poor Marketting ?? - In India, I see that LG has advertised phone very poorly. Even their advertisements were not that catchy when compared to Sony Xperia Z1, iphone and Samsung phones.
2) Brand Value ?? - LG is not considered as top brand for their phones. In fact LG G2 is my first LG phone. Before that I have used Nokia N900, Galaxy S2, HTC, iphone...but never ever thought of buying LG phone.
3) Not removable battery ??
4) Position of buttons ??
5) Competion has better mobiles ?? - Samsung Galaxy S4 and Note 3, Xperia Z1, Iphone 5S, Lumia 1020
6) Launch of Nexus 5 ??
Do you see any other reason for its poor sale?
Another reason would be bad update behavior on previous phones.

I don't think it's LG's update policy. The Mainstream doesn't care when or how they get updates, they even don't know which is the current Android Version. We (here on XDA) are only a view percent of all Consumers.
Although i agree on bad Marketing. On the launch of the S4 there've been dozens of TV commercials, Newspaper adds and and and .. honestly i haven't seen a single TV commercial about the G2
Before the G2 i owned the S4, which was rather quickly sold (no regrets - bad Phone in my opinion) and the HTC One. Seen the G2 in a Phoneshop and quickly fallen in love with it.
But anyhow that's the burden of small Phone builder companies like LG or HTC. They suffer from the almighty Samsung even they build the much better Phones. I always would prefer a HTC or LG device over Samsung but that's not what the mainstream thinks
Its just visibility thats hurting them. The HTC One and S4 get all the headlines in the Android world, as far as branded unit go, and the N5 gets all the headlines as far as software is concerned, but the nexus isnt a big seller, despite what the Nexus nazis think.
LG should take this as a learning curve and make sure LG G2 is updated quickly, also adveritse the next phone a more. The G Flex has got some coverage beacuse G2 rolled the ball for LG, now it is upto them to keep the momentum going.
2.3 million might not be a great number, but it is the beggining, probably LG will end with 2.5 million which is still pretty decent. This is how Galaxy series started for Samsung, G2 can do the same for LG.
It's all marketing. People will buy anything shoved in their face.
I'm in Malaysia and my G2 is a Taiwan set since LG Malaysia doesn't care at all to launch this device here. Luckily lots of importer saw this opportunity to sell imported sets here.
Brand? LG seems to be doing well in other department. It's all about marketing really. I was in Aeon plaza the other day. People were all flocking in Samsung shop while Sony shop next door is empty.

What a shame. This is such a great phone.
I agree that the problem is branding and marketing. Samsung marketing budget is insane.
I see LG commercials on TV all the time, plus the carriers seem to be pushing the phone. I guess it comes down to brand recognition and a bad reputation of being slow on updates..if any at all, they're headed down the right track if they keep the momentum going, 2014 could be a successful year for them.
I think the problem lies with the salespeople. When I was waiting for the Sprint variant to come out, I went to 5 different stores that sold cell phones (2 best buys, 2 AT&T stores, and a Sprint store.) Only one of them, of the five had a G2 on the display. There weren't any advertisements for the G2 (posters, nothing.) in 3 of the stores, and 2 of the stores the salespeople didn't even know what a G2 was.
The only store that had a demo unit was the second Best Buy I visited and when I went to pick up my device from them, they insisted I go with the Note 3. I just have to say, with Samsung being the standard, it's hard to fight against but LG's marketing is very weak here, at least in Jacksonville FL. Of course, all five stores I visited had Samsung ads plastered on every square inch of available space they had.
One thing: LG needs to dish out faster updates. Like Kitkat should come in Jan 2014 itself. All the trch websites are bound to pick up on that. Samsung nerds did good publicity for them and hence they are where they are. LG needs to make sure that whatever limited customer base they have gets the best service in terms of hardware and software.
Average buyers will follow soon.
1 For many people that know about the companies, it's the history of the updates. I was very hesitant because of that. That can be corrected if they push out updates and keep them coming for at least a couple android versions. Look at Samsung's reputation after the Moment. That phone was a pain in the arse and turned me off of Samsung. But they have definitely come back from that. LG can do the same by keeping this phone up to date.
1 For the general population is the timing. A LOT of people renewed their contracts with a HTC One, or the S4 or Note3. So they "couldn't" get the G2, because they don't want to pay full price.
Having a removable battery and an SDcard slot would have been a huge benefit.
Marketing would have helped a lot too, especially for companies like Sprint with the G2 being the first phone to support Sprint Spark. And for Verizon to advertise more about the wireless charging being built in.
For the comment about the sales people, at the Sprint store I went to, they highly recommended the G2 when I went in to compare the S4 and the G2.
I think it's due to the marketing of the device more so than the reputation of LG. I've seen maybe 5 G2 commercials on prime time TV shows. They need to sell the strengths of the phone, which to me is the speed and the huge battery. Only once have I completely drained the battery and that's because I was using it literally all day. If they sold it like the droids 48 hour battery life and mentioned the processor is on par with a new laptop people would be more interested. I think Samsung has cornered the market with the S4 because of their marketing. Don't they have a marketing budget of like $24 BILLION next year? It's hard to compete with something like that.
Personally, I'm always apprehensive about buying any sort of electronics device. I never want to get stuck with a lemon but sometimes it happens. The only thing I can do to try to avoid that is to read and watch reviews to get a better sense of whats out there. Sales people are generally going to do whats best for them. They want the commission. So that said, I almost didn't go with the G2 because the reviews were very negative. In retrospect, I can honestly say the reviews were incredibly unfair. But the average person might be swayed by them. Seriously, if Apple or Samsung put the volume and power button in the middle of the back of the phone it would be hailed as innovation. But LG did it and it was panned. The funny thing is, I don't think its nearly that big of a change as reviews made it out to be.
I think Post #2 hit the nail on the head.
LG really screwed over every previous owner with updates. And you can't say "oh the average user doesn't care about updates" is a big load of crap. People have been expecting updates ever since the first iPhone. This isn't 2005 where everyone has a flip dumbphone. EVERYONE looks for updates. Why do you think Samsung is so big now? Because everyone knows that Samsung will push 1-2 updates out to you and the software is quality. LG got the G2 right with software and hardware quality (no bugs or broken issues) but past LG phones have been notoriously known for having quirky bugs (reboot issues, overheating, GPS, etc) and never getting updated.
LG's previously history is so bad, that I am receiving Class Action Lawsuit papers in the mail on the LG G2x.
This hurts sales and it is nobodies fault except LG. This is exactly what happens when you don't take care of your customers (in any aspect; washer/dryer, tv, etc). I love the G2, as many do, but I really really really beat myself up over picking one up. I almost didn't do it just because it had LG on the front.
I can see LG has a winner with the G2. Their marketing team is doing a great job because I am seeing tons of commercials and ads for it. The name is getting out there and sales will probably be steady moving forward. But LG has to keep the ball moving with a steady stream of updates for the G2 or else they will be right back in the same "oh our sales numbers are low and we don't know why" category next generation.
Bad marketing and the name brand are the culprits.
An average Joe doesn't know and doesn't care about what inside the device, left alone which version of the OS. They don't know whether its 4.2.2 or 4.4.2. Average Joes don't care about the update, they just simply want to use the phone.
Samsung is too big in the market and overshadow the LG, not only in the the Android phone market but also in TV market.
It's the brand and marketing. Plane and simple. A name like galaxy sticks in your head. You hear droid... and you know what someone is talking about. G2? It doesn't stick in the mind. People like catchy. Also, Sammy slammed the crap out of iPhones in its commercials. The next big thing is already here. That's genius. Learning from you.. yawn lol. Why did the og droid do so well? Was it better then an iPhone at the time? No.. but it's ad campaign and branding was amazing. The idont commercial was one of the best ever.
When non android users ask me about my g2.. they say one of 2 things. Is that one of those galaxy phones or is that a droid phone?
When the galaxy nexus was first leaked, it was either the droid nexus or nexus prime. I was actually really bummed when it was called a galaxy because of how cool nexus prime sounded to me. Point is, I almost didn't buy it because of its name.
Branding matters....

I think how its been marketed and not the quantity of ads. I've seen a ton of ads in southern California, but it's all about the back buttons and camera.
If they focused on how much of a beast it is, it might have turned a few more heads.
The droid 48 hour claim ain't nothing (good commercial though). I'm on hour 58 with 25% battery remaining.
It's a beast, sell it as such.

They definitely need to push the battery more in their advertising. It's the only reason I got this over the Nexus 5!

This is simply not true. Out of EVERYONE I know with an Android phone, not a single one of them has EVER asked me how I like the new update, or when will we get an update. EVER. Those of us that know anything about upcoming updates are the rarity. We only know about them because of the sites we visit and participate in. Most likely a fraction of a % of the total smartphone universe.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.

My colleague has said this to me, "All I did is install an update and everything looks different."
I believe that people want to be on the latest software available to them, but don't have the slightest clue what's different between versions.

[Q] What are your HAM2 plans?

As the title simply asks, what are your plans for your HAM2?
I've created this thread 1) out of curiosity and 2) to show Huawei (if they ever see this) what a mistake they're making.
If you're sticking with your Mate2, vote for that! If you're going to sell it, vote for that and please tell us what your selling price is/may be, and what phone you're buying next. And if you're unsure, there's an option for that.
Hopefully this'll help other people make their next phone decision or get Huawei's act together for the US, who knows?
As for me: I'd like to sell it; possibly looking into a used Note 3.
UPDATE - 11/21/14
ANDROID LOLLIPOP WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR THE ASCEND MATE2

At its launch, the Ascend Mate2 offered a powerful, unlocked experience, with a 4G LTE ready, 6.1-inch smartphone featuring the most powerful battery in its class and panoramic camera. Today, the Mate2 continues to be an exceptional device for under $300.

Buying the Nexus 6 when it becomes available, and after some of the reviews.
Will probably sell this or give it to someone in the family.

Im going to keep it, its a really good phone, and there is no other phone with this battery!
Selling my HAM2, will wait a few weeks and decide between the Nexus 6 and Note 4
I'm also planning on selling my HAM2. I'm interested in the Nexus 6 but want to read RL user reviews. I also would like to see if there are any Google Play editions going to be announced soon that have decent screen size and big battery. Like most new Google phones, I suspect the supply chain for the Nexus 6 is going to take a few months to get enough phones out. Maybe Moto will be a nice surprise and get enough stock out early. I guess Huawei decided the North American market isn't worth the effort. Too bad. I suspect they've quit reading North American web pages after the reaction to their announcement about not updating to KK. (I really can't believe their callous responses to posts on their FB page. "Life goes on." Given that attitude, I suspect they're miserable at responding to warranty issues.)
I've only had my phone sim in it a few times, usually it's wifi only or sharing my tablet sim with my LTE N7 and unlocked AT&T Note 8. I have too many devices and need to move them. I want to go either with my Note 2 and 8, Note 2 and this with the tablet sim, or sell everything and go with an international Note 8 with the phone sim and a cheap T-Mobile branded phone for a backup with wifi calling.
"Wait and see" is what makes sense to me. The phone still has the attributes I bought it for. I'm disappointed that the phone is being neglected, but not sure I would have wanted the KitKat update if it had come. I had enough problems with various 4.4.x versions on the Nexus 4 that I would not have been an early adopter on the HAM2. I'm not exactly a fan of Huawei after the company's failure to adequately support their product, but I still remember that they freely provided the bootloader unlock code., something not many phone manufacturers do. So I think there are a few trade-offs involved.
Keepin It
I'm keepin it because I can't find any other phone as of today that is worth selling this for to get a replacement. Maybe in 8 months something better will come a long but then again maybe in 2 months or something we will have CM. The only phablet I can see worth money is the Sony Xperia Z Ultra but I think this phone is more rounded overall. I was ok with JB last week before the announcement and I'm ok with it this week just sad. This is a $300 budged phablet I bought not no $700 phone I found out was not being supported anymore. For the $300 I paid for this the battery and phone is great. A 5.5 inch screen is not a phablet to me. 6 inches and up I need and if someone can find me a worthy contender I would gladly upgrade because i'm so mad at Huawei. But as it stands its actually in a class of its own.
@ScoobSTi I've read enough of your post to know your also going to ride this wave with me. Its almost cheaper to buy a phone from someone who is mad and give it to a developer.. hahahah JK..or am I.. hmmmm

Thought about it more myself and it's still an awesome device and I think you would still get another year out of it. I may not get the latest android wear updates after April but Pebble said they are going to support 4.3+ with the next updates and I actually prefer my Pebble steel so I'm OK with that. Android wear has really been getting better lately and I'm excited to see what lollipop brings "Torn between two lovers, feeling like a fool" you know how the song goes.

I guess I'm an odd duck. I'm KEEPING my Ham2.
The update means nothing to me. I had a 2+ year old Note1 still on 4.1.2 when I picked up the Ham2 in July, so updating isn't a priority.
I just want a device that works, is stable and has a great battery life. Ham2 fits that to a T.
I don't need bells and whistles, I don't play games. I use this as a tool for work. All my service calls are handled through a web portal,
I do a ton of email, text, scanning bar codes, few dozen photos of broken equipment etc. The OS on the device means nothing, as long as it is STABLE.I don't have time for FC's, reboots, lock ups, dropped signals etc.
Stable, battery life, good camera, clear screen, THAT is job #1 for a device.
As long as my Ham2 works, I'll keep it. Even if they did release an OS update, I'd hold off for at least a month, to make sure it was
rock solid stable before I were to install it.

I will say, it will be hard to replicate the Mate 2 battery life on any other phone for a couple of years, I'd presume. While you can certainly get a better screen and a faster phone, there's nothing on the market that even comes close battery-wise. I can get 72 hours uptime with 9 hours on screen routinely on the Mate 2. The people who have good life with the Note are getting ~20 hours uptime with 6 hours on screen.
I seem to have been getting decreased battery life, even with constant app killing, scanning, etc. so if I do switch I don't think it'll make too much of a difference.
Plus, if I do go for a Note 3, it has wireless charging... and a removable battery...

my battery has been perfect still. I get 2 days out of it on normal profile. and I had wireless charging on my G pro and it sucks trust me. it's not there yet
I'm going to hound Huawei until they replace this with a Mate 7
Ordered one this week let's see how it is or will return to newegg. Will be costing me less than $200 after I get rid of newegg and net10 gift cards.

your going to fall in love with the phone just like all the rest of us. just hate the name on top
Waiting....For Now
Have decided to go back to my S3 as my daily driver. While I love the size and battery life there are just a few too many quirks that aggravate me, and one item that will be a show stopper in the near future.
1. 3rd party camera apps aren't working for me....the flash timing doesn't sync up with the shutter so you end up with dark pictures even though the phone does the double flash to focus and reduce red eye.
2. Lockscreen...ugh. Stock is nasty and the way the kernel works, replacements (I've tried a dozen plus) have delays that flash the homescreen before kicking in.
3. Screen resolution...yes, it's 720p but Huawei somehow twerked the configuration to where it's not properly recognized by many apps, especially Themer/MyColorScreen won't recognize.
4. Notifications...even with apps identified as "protected", i.e. they're not supposed to be killed when the screen goes off, seem to get cached/suspended and notifications stop.
5. Speaker...for media it does OK but as a speaker phone? Can't hear people on the other end even in a quiet room with nothing but ambient noise (yes, I'm deaf as all get out but the S3 speaker is so much better).
6. SD Card...has the damn restrictions associated with 4.3, apps like Zooper widget etc. that can back-up settings are only able to store to internal memory, not external SD. *This is from my experience so there may be something I'm missing to fix this.
7. Back-up...the stock back-up seems to work ok and a lot has been fixed with TWRP...BUT there seems to be too many issues and with nandroid/titanium not working from what I've read I have decided rooting and modding with exposed/busybox hacks is too risky for now.
8. The show stopper...My company is going to enforce encryption on BYODs soon to access email, etc. Ran encryption on the phone, looked successful, but when went to validate it failed then when I restarted the phone it went back to being unencrypted. I know 4.3 can be a bit tricky with encryption but my device is now marked as "unsupported" by my IT and will not be able to access environments.
Keeping.
Still love the screen and the battery life.
If the Mate 7 comes available next year for the U.S. market for under $500 that'll be my next phone.
Sent from my MT2L03 using XDA Free mobile app
Keeping . It's the best device I've had , especially considering the price/performance ratio. I knew going into this purchase that the kit kat promise wasn't credible. If you want updates spend $600+ . This device fits the bill for a lot of consumers as is . Including myself . I have devices on kit kat and the experience on the HAM2 isn't hindered at all by the 4.3 OS . At least not for me , this thing is rock solid with outrageous battery life . What's the point of having bleeding edge specs with the newest OS if it doesn't even last a regular day ?? Always looking for a charge is so annoying . With this thing i don't even have a battery indicator percentage turned on , because no matter what i can't use up all the juice in one day even if i tried . I get at least 10 hours of on screen time per charge. Who knows, maybe Huawei is gonna fire back with a positive reply after their horrendous announcement . They've been very quiet on their social platforms , maybe they're trying to work something out with the big boys over in China . Just some thoughts .

Google just destroyed the resale value of the P30 Pro

So no security updates and loss of functionality.
The used market for these is going to collapse IMHO, who'd want to take the risk when the above news story is on the front page of the BBC News website.

How is it Huawei's fault that Donald Trump is trying to strong-arm China in trade talks? Huawei are a victim in this (or, more accurately, the consumers are the victims here).
Unless Huawei genuinely are spying on the world, which I doubt, then it certainly isn't their fault...
Ask those "some" I don't have a clue.
I probably have to buy a new phone so it's really bad news.

Please Actually Read Before Making Statements
1. The P30 Pro will not "lose" functionality. It will continue to have Play Store and app support. Huawei phones moving forward will lose this... so actually the P30 Pro value is high since it will be the "last and latest" phone to continue to see this support.
2. All Huawei phones will still continue to be supported through AOSP and AOSP security updates... as long as Huawei can effectively push these out quickly, security vulnerabilities will be patched. Once again, it is the "licensed" products like gmail, play store, etc. they lost not Android
3. The trade war is smoke and mirrors. Apple has agreed behind close doors not to use their influence to speak out against the current administration.... in exchange, the administration is using their seat of power to effectively cripple Apple's greatest competitor, Huawei.... this just so happens to happen not even a month after it was reported that Huawei sales went higher than Apple world-wide.... The administration also made some deal or threat to Google behind closed doors to make this happen... This is why you haven't heard anything from the Google camp yet, as thy get their ducks in a row to make some kind of real statement today. This was planned day 1 after Apple made their deal with Qualcomm to bury the hatchet so to speak. Reason: Apple almost had to turn to Huawei for 5G modem chips, once that was off the table, Game on to strong arm Huawei. Tim Apple and Trump are businessmen first... always remember that... It is the "Art of the Deal"
4. Huawei, if they choose to, will get the chance down the road here in a few months, to pay some fines, etc. or some other garbage to get everything back. It will be just enough money to "sting" Remember, US Companies are doing over $1B in sales to Huawei this year. Trump won't threaten this... its always about big business, Qualcomm won't be able to make everyone's 5G chips.... Huawei will need to be tapped at some point. This also helps the US stay at the same or equal level of other countries with 5G roll out.... most EU countries were looking at Huawei for their tower solutions... this will slow this down now and make countries "rethink" in the short term.
5. Huawei has been planning this since trump went into office or even before that... trust in the fact that they are not scarred or "scare tactics"
Your P30 Pro's are good android support and app store support phones. Resell won't be immediately effected and it is still the best camera phone on the market.

This guy gets it. Hold on to your P30 Pro. Enjoy it. Maybe it's the last Android phone from Huawei if things really go south, but to me, the phone hasn't really lost any value. I don't plan getting much from reselling it in a few years anyway.

Just like that nonsense on Supermicro boards containing spy-chips that ended up never being there, this is all BS.
Again, I'd much rather own and use a Huawei phone than a Google one. In general, Asian people are much more trustworthy than Americans. Don't forget who are trying to get Assange extradited. It's not China, Japan, India or Thailand, it never will be, since they're smarter. Literacy alone proves that. 16% of Americans are total idiots that can't even read, let alone judge news on its merit.

They most definitely are, China are notorious for heavily spying on there on people so why wouldnt they want info on everyone else?
I'm glad I got rid of my Huawei Mate 20 Pro when I got Hulk screen.
And for your information it is down to Huawei, because if it was solely down to them being a Chinese firm then OnePlus would be getting the same treatment.
Do some research into the dangers of 5G and health and you'll realise why this is all happening with Huawei, because they're heavily invested in 5G tech.

How's that tinfoil hat of yours? It's got bugger all to do with 5G and the health effects. This is all happening to Huawei because nobody gives a rat's ass about OnePlus realistically. The whole point of putting Huawei on the subs bench is so Donald Trump can strong arm China by holding the largest Chinese technology exporter to ransom until his trade deal demands are met.
Also, OnePlus aren't in the enterprise technology space, another reason they haven't gone after them. This isn't about spying, and this isn't about the health effects of 5G (5G is coming whether Huawei are involved or not), it's about the tangerine ignoramous throwing a tantrum because "I'm the leader of America and everyone needs to do as I say"...
P.s. suggesting that "Huawei must be spying because the Chinese spy on their own people" is ridiculous and also borderline racism... So please avoid that in the future, thanks.

OnePlus doesn't threaten Apple.... once they do, wait for the spying rumors to start. Plus, OnePlus uses some elaborate hoops legally to keep their affiliation on the face of it away from Oppo. Huawei at its size can't do that, so their Chinese connection is more apparent.... and um, the name.... If I knew nothing about phones and phone makers, which most people outside here don't, and then said which one of these 2 brands is Chinese affiliated, Huawei or OnePlus.... let me see... oh, yeah the Chinese sounding one. Once again, perception, "fear of the other" dominates the USA right now... and its spreading across the world. The problem is that fearing the other is not the problem.... stupidity is, spreading like wildfire....

It is, but only partially. It's to do with the fact that if Donald Trump can stop the US from importing Huawei network technology it would hurt the Chinese economy greatly - thus making the Chinese want a resolution to the trade argument ASAP (which is what it is all REALLY about, as we've all said... A LOT).
EDIT: It has bugger all to do with the health impacts of 5G. You're talking about Donald Trump here... He doesn't even think global warming is a thing, you think he gives 2 Fs about health impacts of 5G?
This is a trade deal argument and nothing more. 5G is coming whether it's Huawei kit at the centre of the infrastructure or not.
EDIT2: With regards to the scaremongering video you posted - you just wait until you find out what's in your microwave, how your Blu Ray player works or the hard drive in your PC

Okay, clearly you have no idea what 5G is capable of in terms of weapons systems and health risks.
Maybe not all due to health risks, but it can be used as a highly intelligent A.I. weapons system. If you think this is all about trade then you probably believe CNN and the Washington Post too!

Clearly, as I've pointed out, the two are not in any way related.
Regardless of whether 5G technology will melt my insides, that isn't why Google has blocked the play store on a mobile phone.
Also, weapons technologies exist all around us, making lives easier. Technology when used correctly is safe, in the hands of idiots not so much. You seen what you can do with a microwave when you're not using it to heat ramen noodles?

I said it previously that it absolutely has everything to do with 5G.... Look at the FCC announcement... crippling Huawei is Donald Startegory 101 to make US "a world wide leader" (as quoted directly from FCC Chairman). You mentioned OnePlus.... as stated by other, OnePlus doesn't even play in the same state of the playground that Huawei, Apple, Alphabet, Ericsson & Qualcomm play.
Huawei spies no more or less then google (recently found out they record all your purchasing history) & Apple (basically tell you when you setup the phone that will use some of your data for analytics) and truly so what if Huawei does.... You doing some top secret research for your government that will cause its demise if Huawei and China knows... really, really.... Huawei and China can know what porn I like and what stuff I buy... hopefully they'll make more of it cheaper. :highfive:

And here i rest my case with you. Dont tell me. Earth is flat innit?

Picking up a P30 Pro in todays circumstances

With all this upheaval, what do you think about grabbing one while they're going cheap, used and good condition?
Im aware of the circumstances and that Huawei banning bootloader unlocking makes the situation even worse. If we could find a way to unlock the bootloader by unofficial means, I'd be happy to pick one up if there's decent 3rd party developer support
Could this be an opportunity or just a waste of time and money for us?
I've just bought one for £520 and it's only a month old. I'm prepared to take the risk for such a good phone and hopefully this Trump crap will come to an end soon
I have one sealed here myself but debating if I should have opted for Mate 20 Pro instead for worthwhile savings
Things could possibly reverse back to normal, if the ban goes full on, it could come to a total of $11m lost of business for the states with the companies combine, plus other possible complications, even regardless of that, and full ban on huawei, existing devices are not effected going by what Google have said
I got one before the 'news'. No regrets, it's a great phone.
Yeah i'd say buy it or get the mate 20 pro it's a better deal.
It has a better screen also
Although i don't care for that myself
i have a p30 pro love the phone but i am thinking about getting rid of it becaues of the hole ban thing i buy my phone off line every year and just tread my old one in so just looking at it from a money aspect
It's still worth every cent of the original retail price, let alone the massive discounts you can find. Its the best phone of 2019, and I've tried them all...
I agree. I'm watching a few variants on ebay, mainly the VOG-L04 model. If prices continue to fall, I might end up with more than one.

Ditto.
I just picked mine up about to days ago. And I paid premium price for it. I was looking for the best battery life, performance and camera. I'm not really a fan of Samsung. I have no complaints with this phone. Other then I have a defective figure print sensor.
Bought a new one about a week ago. Could not be much happier overall. I don't necessarily need Android Q. The phone is working fine as it is. However this might be the last Huawei I'll buy depending on what happens in the future. It's very unclear future for Huawei now. For current phones I don't care though. This phone has the hardware I need that no one else has.
No regrets for me too. I bought it after the news came out. P30 pro is already a futuristic device. Huawei can always use AOSP and we can use alternative for Google services
Sent from my VOG-L29 using Tapatalk
I picked one up over the weekend, new. I'm not too bothered about the crap - it's a great phone, will get Q, will probably get security updates, and will definitely get Play store updates - that's good enough for me.
And it's a matter of time before either of the countries blink and things go back to normal
Well, I just picked one up brand new here in Canada. Coming from a Pixel 3xl. Don't regret it one bit. Nothing wrong with the pixel at all, but it fell short in a couple areas within the camera that the p30 pro delivers on. I don't really care about the situation happening, I believe it will get resolved.
I bought my P30 Pro before the ban for full price.
I love the fact that it has a best in class camera that's the most versatile in the industry, 2 day battery life, the fastest charging speeds and just its overall gorgeous design.
I have no regrets. I don't take politics seriously and think the news and media puts this in a scaremongering light as Google and various US-based companies wouldn't want to lose out on potential revenue and business.

On the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka, Trump said “U.S. companies can sell their equipment to Huawei,” without going into detail. “We’re talking about equipment where there’s no great national security problem with it,” Trump continued. It’s not clear what this means for now, but it’s likely Huawei will be able to acquire basic components like Qualcomm processors and Google’s Android OS.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 UK

Hi all,
Let us start the UK related discussion here.
Did anyone receive an email from Upgrade Programme UK? I did and it saying that I can upgrade on the 7th of August so happy.
Going for the 5G Model
From what I have seen I'll go with the upgrade from my note 8 this time. Hopes the UK get 5g variant especially with the pro model
I'm In.
Roll on Wednesday.
I'm in if the pro is 5g. Otherwise I am going to wait. I did see the subway shot yesterday online and my god it looks huge!
Will the UK get any perks?! Don't need headphones but earphones will be useful.
What time does the steam start in the UK?
My wallet is sat here itching to be opened....
I am planning to return my s10plus bought 10 days ago and preorder the note 10 plus..

We live in an age where wifi, 4g and other broadcast systems have been cooking our loafs for years. All phone have bluetooth yet we plug earbuds in without worrying. We survived Chernobyl!
I've seen arguments for and against. How do you know whats real and what is some keyboard warrior starting a rumour?!

A vague news report but kinda explains it simplistically - basically if you have a phone glued to your head all day every day (as I read it), there may be concerns...
Of course who is going to admit there are issues now its live???? If we all grow a third penis from our ears, that'll be the result! (plenty have 2 already!).
I’m potentially looking to transfer from iOS, will be tracking this phone, against my past experience with a Samsung.
I don’t see any Android device that doesn’t have a compromise somewhere. Some of those compromises are dealbreakers for me. But basically, I’m bored of iOS.

ALL of the IOS compromises were deal breakers for me! I tried an 8+ 3 year ago and sold it after 2 weeks. Hideous os. I get why people like it for simplicity, integration and a wide range of accessories but the world has caught up now and offers android at least the same level of options with freedom and better functionality. Apple is very overpriced.

I get it, I really do. But the Note 10 at the same spec as a XS Max is going to be similar in price. I might sound like a stuck record for iOS users but I will miss some simple integrations. Instant photo library sync, handoff with clipboard sync, I guess a lot of iCloud’s integrations.
So I have just pre-ordered the Note 10 from Samsung update program, received acceptance etc and email saying credit approved, but my account is now showing the order as cancelled??? Anyone else having any issues?
Ordered mine 10+ 5g 23rd delivery love the ai video and outlook integration

Yes, we do. That's why we will be buying and using these devices.

Even if I had a phone with 5g I would never use 5g.
Well it's your bodies so good luck.

Be sure to stay at least 10 metres away from anyone holding a 5G phone for your own safety. If you want to carry a sign alerting people to your concerns, we'll be happy to give you a wide berth should we see you out in public.
I have just pre-ordered the Note 10+ 5G 512GB model went for Black
Just ordered the 512Gb 5G model through the upgrade program. Was surprised no 1 Tb Model was available. Hoping they will announce more then the cashback for the Note 10. They did that last time for the Note 9 and extra cash back instead of a preorder offer is getting annoying a little..
