Hyperdrive 17 Safestrap Bootloop - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hello,
I was running Hyperdrive 17, with android 4.4.2 NC5 and everything was working perfect. I wanted to upgrade to Hyperdrive RLS 18 and when I formatted the system in Safestrap, it went straight into a bootloop. The only thing I can get into is Download mode. I have odin on my PC and it see's the phone. Could anybody please assist me in getting my phone to work again? I dont even care if I lose root or need to run stock, I just need my phone working ASAP. Thanks in advance!

You should not have formatted the system via Safestrap. Don't do that again. Only factory reset and advanced wipe everything but the internal SD card. These are the Odin files you need. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172
Try to be more careful in the future. You can Towelroot.com/SuperSU/Busybox/Safestrap to get back to rooted NC5 with Safestrap after you flash with Odin.

Thank you so much for the response! I am back up and running. I rooted using installed.com and was able to install super user. I confirmed root access as well. However, safestrap will not install. It runs the process but remains at status: not installed. Any idea what could cause this? Also, do modules need to be reinstalled as well once I put hyper drive back on? Thanks again.

Did you get Busybox from the play store and after download go into Busybox and 'Install Busybox'? Also, if you wifi and data is all working correctly then there is no need for modules.

Yup, busybox installed successfully. Sorry, forgot to add that part.

That's never happened to me before. You could try uninstalling and reinstalling the Busybox app and after install go back into Busybox and 'Install Busybox' again. You could try a different Safestrap APK. Also, getting SELinux from the Play Store and setting it to 'permissive' might help. Just some ideas.

I copy pasted this info for ya from here post 167 and from post 172..
1. Use Odin 1.85 in Admin Mode for Windows users.
2. Install TWRP 2.5 via PDA settings.
3. Reboot phone into Recovery.
4. Install SuperSU via the Zip.
5. Reboot phone and viola. SuperSU is there and works.
Download the Odin Method herE:
http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/96
Flash via Odin. Then download SuperSU.
Located here:
http://download.chainfire.eu/204
Then reboot to recovery, flash the zip and all done.
Thank you thank you

In the blackstar thread. Posted by nun.
man i want one so bad
patience grasshopper
When you flash the rom then flash TWRP 2.5, just reboot into recovery, and verify your flash worked. But you don't have to flash the superuser.zip.
As you exit TWRP, it will say you're not rooted, and would you like to do that? Then TWRP will create the root for you.
But, either method gets the job done.
2.5 does not give that option.
That's in older versions.
Well the 2.5 I have did give the option. And I didn't make it up. It was mentioned in the development section so I tried it. I thought it was a very slick piece of work.
Hmm That's odd, I too saw that and thought I'd try it as well. 2.5 did not give me that prompt.
Me being me, I redownloaded, tried again same thing. tested it on the previous version, and only then did I get a prompt.
I uninstalled SU to try to recreate it so I could make sure I didn't just drink the koolaide and it didn't ask. But I think once you let TWRP flash the binary file it won't ask anymore.
I did get it to re-ask if I wanted to root. It flashed the SU binary.
But I did have to also install busybox (I used sterison app).
i foun the deodexed verersion it was just posted by ptmr3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2267199

mine as well matter of fact yesterday i flashed a zip and after I wiped cache and dalvik i went to reboot and it said it "appears you have lost root" or something like that and "swipe to reinstall" saved my bacon, thought it was really cool.

ME7 needs help with Bonestock

Hi I'm new to all this rom flashing stuff and I was trying to flash bonestock 1.1 on my me7 gs4. I wiped everything as, I was rooted, and I put the zip file in my sd folder. After this I booted into recovery and it didnt give me an option to install from sd. I am formatted to exfat by the way. I tried using goomanager and ended up bricking my phone which I figured out how to fix, but would still like to use this rom. If anyone could give me a step by step walkthrough it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.
If you have ME7 already on your phone, you can't have a custom recovery which is needed to install custom ROMS. Sorry but your out of luck.

I believe he just means that his ROM is using the updates that ME7 provided, minus the part about locking down your phone for good. As was mentioned above, once you're on the official ME7, there's currently no way to install a custom recovery and thus no custom ROMs.

my link says the ROM is BASED off ME7..
Don't put words in my mouth, please.
If you successfully took the ME7 OTA or your phone already came with ME7 build, then you can only root and cannot flash custom roms as of yet. For rooting help check out android development section. Everything you need to know is there.

[Q] Problem loading Safestrap

Hello,
I followed the below instructions from the attached link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441441
The problem I am having is after I use the “Install Recovery" button my phone goes through the install process and prompts me that I have installed Safestrap however the State of my phone says not installed. I assume that Safestrap is not installed did I do something wrong? Thanks
I also attached some screen shots as well. Phone specs: Verizon S4 Saferooted on Build VRUEMK2, Android 4.3
HOW DO I INSTALL SAFESTRAP?
1.Requirement: Root
2.Requirement: Allow APK install from Unknown Sources
3.Download the Safestrap APK
4.Find the APK using a Filemanager tool and open it on your device, then click "Install".
5.(If updating from an existing Safestrap you might be warned that this will over-write the existing installation. Click the "Yes" equivalent to this message.)
6.Once installed, open up the Safestrap application as you would any other app.
7.Agree to the disclaimer that you won't try to sue me and hunt me down with a rifle if you manage to break your phone..
8.Then use the "Install Recovery" button. You should see the current version down in the lower left corner of the window. And the "Status:" should say "Installed" when you're done.
9.From there you can reboot and you *should* see a new splash screen during the boot up. While this is showing you can enter Safestrap Recovery using the [ menu ] button.
10.That's it for the installation! Read below for a brief overview of Safestrap Recovery v3.x

Im gonna give ya the best info i can. Im new to the safestrap stuff so bare with me hopefully someone can tell me if i am wrong.
1st:
On the stafestrap page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45517751 make sure you are using the correct SS for your version. There is a MJ7/MK2 version and a ME7/MI1 build.
2nd
If you have ran and installed SS before you may need to uninstall it before you install the newer version. There is instructions on that in the link i provided also.
PS
Make sure if you get it working that you download the correct Kernel Modules for the baseband you are running. Very important.
Hope this helps, but like i said... I hope i can be backed up on this and if i am wrong that someone can tell me that lol

Im running out of ideas but Im gonna do whatever I can to help you get this going. I may be doing this tonight to my girlfriends phone and I want all to go smoothly .
This may be stuff you have tried so just ignore if you have already. Just gonna make a list.
1. Redownload the APK. Maybe its a bad download and reinstall it in your phone. Uninstall your current version and then reboot phone. Then install the newly downloaded one.
2. If you can, maybe find a little older version of SS and try it.
3. Do a complete wipe of everything on the phone and start clean after the factory reset (as long as you dont mind factory resetting your phone) and then try the SS install. (make sure you can install from unknown sources again)
4.Make sure you didnt deny the SS app superuser permissions by accident
5.Buy me a beer and maybe i can come up with something else?. Just kidding ofcourse :silly:
Ill do what i can to find a solution for ya

Root should not be lost. If it does then you can reroot. Yeah all your app / contacts / settings will be deleted. You can using Titanium Backup to back up all your apps. Gmail can back up all your contacts. Settings, unfortunately you will have to redo all these. Also, what are you using to download the SS APK?

Anyone else viewing this thread have any ideas?
Well this process shouldn't be this hard. What I would do at this point is Odin the MK2 no wipe.. so you keep all your data then use Saferoot again to root the phone. Then re download SafeStrap and try again.
Another thing are you opening up SuperSu so it can update your binary after rooting and before installing SafeStrap?

Never thought of that.
Never really figured basically unrooting and rerooting the phone would help, but hey, anything that will work.
Thanks for the feedback!

I mean I actually don't think you'd even have to Odin back either but at this point might as well just start over fresh.
Then root the phone again and make sure to update the SuperSu binary then reboot and try installing SafeStrap again. Seems like a superuser deal to me. I could be wrong... Just something I'd do to troubleshoot something like this

I am a little hesitant to re-root as I had a problem rooting the first time but I got through it. And I am not familiar with the Odin process but I see it all over the forum. Eventually I know that I need to venture out and learn this if I am going to experiment with the S4 and other roms. At this point in time I don’t plan on changing ROMs do I really need Safestrap? All I am trying to do is this 4.3 Tether Unlock MOD? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512981
As for the SuperSu updating the binary it did prompt me and I allowed it and I am pretty sure it was before trying to install SafeStrap. Thanks

forgot to flash superuser.....what now

I just installed hyper drive release 17, and I forgot to flash the superuser zip after the rom...now I am running hyperdrive 17 not rooted and cannot reinstall safe strap as I am not rooted...not sure where I should go from here. Searched around the forums a bit, found some things to try, but if someone else has had this problem I would rather hear them out before I start tinkering and possibly brick my phone. I am on 4.4.2 update.

No need to flash SuperSu in recovery after Root is acheived from installing Towel Root. Just go to Play Store and install newest version.
Yup .. that also can be done .. I forgot. .. [emoji13]

[Q] Lost root after Hyperdrive Upgrade

I upgraded to Hyperdrive using SS after having rooted with towelroot. The upgrade went fine but soon noticed that I did not have root. Tried towelroot again but it said my phone wasn't supported. Tried flashing supersu, tried saferoot and it came back with permission denied. I'm assuming that has something to do with SELinux and not setting permissive mode. Is there a way to do that manually since the SElinux APK doesn't seem to be working? Vrufnc2 is what the build number is showing. Looking for some ideas here to get root back while maintaining the current hyperdrive rom. Thanks!
