[Q] How to get stock Android icons for home and back? - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hi, I'm new to kindle fire, got mine rooted yesterday (towelroot) + xposed + Play store.
Wonderful tablet, faster and smooth.
But I like the Google home, back and search buttons.
Is there a way to replace it?

You'd need to flash ggow's HDX Nexus ROM for that.

[Q] Should Modern Combat 2 HD work on SGSII?

Hi,
I installed Modern Combat 2 HD from Samsung's Games Hub and it crashes after downloading all of the extra 249MB.
I tried to use Chainfire's CF3D driver with NVIDIA plugin but it didn't work as well.
Does this happen to anyone else?
I bought this game today and it runs fine on my Stock Galaxy S2.
I have the game as well and it runs fine on my phone :/
I had issues running it, got force close errors all the time. Someone on another thread posted a work around.
Try to open it, after you get the fc dialog, click ok to get rid of dialog then hold the hardware home button for a couple of seconds. A list of recently opened apps will be displayed. Find the game here and open it. Should work from here

OMG stBlueJay this actually works!
Thank you

I will try this in a minute.. I will update this post if it works.
What Build number is everyone using? I am currently on KE2. It could be a bug that is build specific.
I'm running KE7 and this workaround works for me.

No worries brother glad to be of assistance... i can't take the credit for discovering the workaround but happy to pass the knowledge on
Er, why not just buy it at the Market? The version there is fully compatible with the SGSII, I have it on mine.
I bought it from Samsung GameHub. Everything there should work perfectly.

I don't really understand this comment? What's the difference between buying it on the market or off the Gameloft website?
It was available for £1 on the Gameloft website, which automatically picked up that my phone was an SG2... surely it should be fully compatible with SG2 if they are making it available to owners of the phone on their website?

Must have app if you use the Google Play store

Android Market Helper
http://codekiem.com/2013/02/13/market-helper/
This app tricks the app store into thinking you have a different device, a Nexus 7 for instance.
This doesn't change your build prop and using it is dead simple. Run it, choose the device you wish to emulate from the drop down list.
click the link for google dashboard, which registers the device as the one you are emulating. Go to play store, download the app you want.
When you're done, reboot the tablet or go back to the mrket helper app and choose restore.
It works as advertised.
Very nice i will have to give it a try when i get my kindle back.. Sooo many apps available now!! Stoked!!
Nice find.
To bad you have to be rooted it said that in later versions it will work for unrooted devices so I will keep it and wait for the update great find man
sent from my unrooted kindle fire hd
Thanks, will check it out later
Edit: Love this app, can download loads of previously "incompatible" apps.
Doesn't work
it seems like I run the app, do all the steps but it doesn't change the configuration in the play store
Same here

Are you logging in to the Google dashboard and verifying the emulated device is listed? I use nexus 7. Works fine for me.

Weird it is working now. Oh well

I can confirm this one works, it allow me to install angry birds from the playstore, otherwise it marks as not compatible with my device. looks like i can get rid of the 1mobile market.
Excellent App
Great app. Works perfectly. I just need to find a way to get Sky Go working on my 7" Kindle Fire HD and I'll be a happy boy.:good:
Hmmm. Just crashes for me. Weird. I'll wait for version 2.0
Token not found?
What seems to be the problem if my error window pops up on my KFHD and says "token not found"?
Awesome find, thanks for sharing.

Works great! No problems, awesome!
I tried registering as both Samsung Galaxy and Nexus for two different apps. I get the message "insufficient storage is available" each time. What could I be doing wrong? Storage is not the problem, I have plenty.
Probably unrelated go into settings and remove data for the play store that should fix it

Turns out I had a couple of lingering odex files under data/app. It had nothing to do with this app. Deleted those out, tried again and everything worked great. Thanks!
Worked great for me..good post!

Anyone else having issues with this, I noticed today Google pushed out version 3.10.14 of the Play Store now it's doesn't seem to work any more, tried clearing the data/cache from the Play Store & checking my Google Account & it shows the change in device but apps still remain incompatible from the app & the web versions.
Edit: Well, installing/pushing apps from the web version seems to be working now, but not from the actual device, better than nothing I guess.
Edit 2: That was short lived, not working again, says apps are compatible but grey's the device out even with Nexus 7 set as device.
Edit 3: Market Helper v1.1 released today! Now stuff works again

Several apps not loading?!

Hey guys, just wanted to share my experience with 2 apps that won't load at all after installation.
From the play store
Craigslist
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.duduapps.craigslistfree
And the Amazon app store.
They install but when opening them I get either a black screen or just the header of the app and the rest black.
Haven't rooted yet so it's not that...
Any thoughts or have you found more?

I just tried both on mine, they worked before I jsut rooted and they work now. Suggest uninstalling / reinstalling and/or clearing the data for them. They should load fine however
Make a comment on its Play Store page and tell them the problem. Or just directly email them then problem.
I've found that if you install a previous version of the Amazon App Store it works just fine. I have also read that when we get the 1.29 upgrade the newest app store works again.
I have a question. Why do you guys use Amazon App Store? Just out of curiosity.
I loaded Amazon app store directly from play store and it loads just fine for me.

Well looks like now, after they updated the craigslist app, the issue is gone, still no luck with the amazon app store.

Maybe you got the Amazon app, but you did not get the Amazon app store from Google play. The only way to get Amazon's appstore is by downloading it directly from Amazon.

[Q] Kindle Reading App apk

first, thanks a lot!
then, what did you mean with "its a system app"?
[Edit]
Doesn't work.
If I tap on the apk, it warns me that it will replace the installed one, I choose "OK", than the installation starts but after a while fails with just a "application not installed", no other error message.
or you can uninstall the upgrade form the playstore app on my apps

The version you want is designed to work ONLY on the kindle fire itself; it won't operate on other devices.
I suggest "moon reader", it's actually better imo

Trust me, you're better off. Kindle is the "best known about" reading app, but it actually lacks a lot that others have to offer. Try checking out a few different ones, they've come a long way to compete

I have about 760 documents in my Kindle account, and I'm used to read ebook on different devices, and I like the kindle app on my iPad.
The android version is so bad... But I'm "bind" to my Kindle account, so...
Sorry i couldn't help you, since you are rooted, you can install custom recovery and download one of the official amazon roms from hashcode (pre rooted i think)

Why is it 'bad' to use the Google Play one?
Ok, it has less features and all, but apart from that its working just fine here.
Is there a way to get the 'stock' apk??
Thanks

You could do one out of three things
A.uninstall the google play update in settings(easiest )
B.reinstall the o.s.(okay)
C. Extract the apk out of a downloaded rom(harder)

Speaking of the Kindle App...
So I rooted my wife's KFHD. I installed Nova Launcher, everything works like she wants except the actual "Kindle app that shows up in the app drawer after a home launcher is installed. When tapped to open it, it does nothing. The only way I can get around that is to tap the Kindle "Home" icon which takes you back to Amazon's hideous Launcher, then tap on "Books" to access available books and the Store. Does anyone know if it is possible to get the Kindle app to act normal? I thought I had solved this problem when I installed the Google version of the Kindle app over it and it worked, but I remembered it's not the best idea to do this and if I remember correctly, it only works until the next time the KFHD is rebooted. After the reboot the Kindle app in the Nova Launcher app drawer becomes useless..Any help would be appreciated.

Boot into Safe Mode

When I boot up my 7" kindle fire hdx by pressing power and holding the down key, it boots into safe mode. What is safe mode and what is it used for?
It is so you can fix problems in your system without using Google play or amazon appstore apps send a virus.

Not true. It just disables all third-party apps and is common in many systems.
