I made this the other night and thought I'd share. Its just a piece of white acrylic I had lying around after a work project. Started off as 13in x just under 5in. That is just enough to feel comfortable in portrait mode, but I have a 11in piece left I may mess around with. I think the lip holding the tablet is slightly too close of a turn on the left side, but otherwise it sits pretty good. I'm guessing the 1/8 cheaper acrylic would work just about as good.
Needed:
propane torch
acrylic
gloves?
I used some duct work crimpers to hold on to it, and also a table mounted clamp. I'm sure there are better ways. Be careful not to set it on fire, just needed to be warm enough to bend

I found a nice stad in Michael's Craft shop. The cost was under $4.00 and the stand folds for storage in the case provided by Viewsonic. I did have to make on small mod, I had to attach 2 small pieces of foam rubber from a cup/can insulater to the stand to prevent the back of the gtab rubbing on the metal and scratching it. I bought 2 so I can keep one the night stand. Does anyone know where I can find screen protectors??

Not sure if it is because of Colorado extreme (either too freakin' hot or cold) weather, but my car dock suction doesn't stay on very long. With proper cleaning of the windshield and suction cup, it would stay for a week or so. If it's too hot (90s), the suction stays on less than 12 hrs.
Any good ideas to keep that sucker (literally) on more permanently? Almost tempted to drill the SOB into a pillar or something. LOL!

Possibly try denture grip (doubt I spelled it right) that is normally used for holding false teeth in, its not expensive and just put a little around the cup and it should stay firm in hot/cold dry/wet conditions, iv seen it work like a dream before
I replace the suction cup with the bag mount from my garmin gps. I use in on my dashboard and can easily stash it to keep it out of view. The ball socket fit both my og droid and my x2 mobile mount.
well mine has been up for a month straight, but I imagine it will be falling off come winter and some more drastic temperature changes.

Did you buy the Verizon one? If you did, it should have come with a sticky pad thing that you can stick to your dash like above the clock in a flat area then suction cup onto that. That's how I have mine set up and it is rock solid, never falls off. I have a Jeep though so there is a nice flat surface to put it on
Thanks everyone. I personally don't like it on my dash, and would like it on my windshield. I'll try the Super Poligrip to see if that works.
I already tried Liquid Nails (clear), and it does a good job for about a month, but definitely Colorado's extreme temp changes wins...
In the extreme florida temps mine was dropping twice a day and once @ night when it cooled down. I found that a generous rub down with ISO alcohol drying the windshield and leaving the cup a bit damp has gotten me more then a month so far.. learned this trick from a garmin user.
twist the thing around until it sits on the dashboard while suction cupped to the window. It's the ONLY way I can get mine to stay on anything, granted I travel for a living, so mine sees many different rental cars and many different climates.
smear a dab of hand sanitizer on cup, you can find that crap everywhere, and it's basically isopropyl alcohol gel.
if ya don't like that method, buy a bracketron bracket for your specific vehicle and just mount it to that.
3m "duallock" velcro also works VERY well, but it's pretty permanent.
Look at ProClipUSA.com. They have custom mounts for your vehicle.

Hi there, it's only me or the cover for USB and HDMI (but the second one is less important) sucks? opening it's ok with my nail but get back in closed position is hard -.-, and I have the fear to break the small plastic connection :S tips? I'm thinking about remove them...

Exactly, it slides in at an angle, then click in the bottom.
I agree it looks flimsy; I had the same fear with the usb port cover on my X10 though, and it lasted well over 2 years of daily charging.
I am used to it now, it's still pointless though. My Nexus One had no cover and the USB port is still working fine after well over 2 years. I don't know why some manufacturers think a cover is necessary.

It's way prettier, obviously. I saw a picture on here with the cover removed, and it makes the design of the phone sink below sea level.
A flapless port only looks good on a phone with a metal or proper metal-color body. Like the Xperia P. But the Xperia S would look like crap without port flaps.

Yeah but that's because you are taking the flap off when it was designed with it on. Phones designed with a flush usb port and no flap look fine.
It's like saying cutting the roof off your SUV didn't look good. A convertible sports car looks ace.
I don't think the XS would look bad with no port flap. Look at the headphone socket, that's very nicely styled. If they'd done the same with USB I'd be happier.
My samsung tocco ultra had a similar style flap to the XS and lasted me 2 years just fine despite me thinking it would only last two days.
The galaxy s had a slide cover which mostly did the job but wasn't exactly pretty. The pins in micro usb are pretty fine wouldn't take much ingress to mess it up.
I think when the flap spare pieces are available online I will get one and make proper opening for USB for it and leave it there permanently.
Some smart manufacturer could make a delete with correct opening. They could have made it just like Xperia P and it would look very nice.
I was thinking about such same thing. Waiting for spare USB flap availability.
I wonder if a replacement flap could be worked into a clip on case?

Ace, works for me too. I'd been faffing something chronic til now with it but that's deffo the method.
Good to hear that other people have had previous, port-protected Sony's last a couple of years and more OK, especially with 2 year contracts almost being the norm these days. All told it's encouraging, therefore, to read that Sony seems to be some kinda master of the flaps.

I find the flaps very sturdy so I don't mind if they are a bit of a learning experience. I pop the bottom part, then the top part and it works for me XD.
On my X10 it was easy to remove but it was pretty fragile, so I would rather have it the way it is now, then none at all .

i think, it's hard to say whether it is better to have those flaps or not to have them (like in the xperia arc). of course, it also depends on how often you use them.
because of wifi, usb is mostly only needed for flashing, but at least you have to oben the usb-flap once a day for charging
but at the end the phone looks better with them...
The flaps don't bother me that much, but what does bother me is how loose they become after you have opened them a few times. It makes it feel like there is a loose spot in the casing.
I just wanted to chip in here and say if you're worried about the flap, you are right to be. I left mine charging overnight and when I came to unplug it I noticed that the flap had a crack in both sides somehow - despite me being super careful with it. It's not broken - some kind of membrane within seems to be holding it together somehow - but it bends along the crack now and it's a matter of time before it snaps completely.
I don't like that flap design one bit... I thought the X10 had a bad flap design but this one is far worse, especially when you have the phone in a case. It's vulnerable when being charged, sticking out worryingly... hopefully spares will become available. I tried to glue it to reinforce it but it's not easy as the crack is only a hairline when sitting properly.
I don't like them, on mine it has become loose and doesn't latch in at the bottom properly anymore. It has also list it's matte black and is quite shiny now, as is also the 'chin' bit at the bottom under clear strip, there's a definite bit of wear under the back and home buttons. :-/ 3 months old :|

Well my cover finally cracked the other day, the little tail that stays in the phone always cracked in half. So half is still stuck in the phone and then I have the whole cover left. It won't stay on anymore so must look for a new one.
Any one seen the USB cover for sale anywhere ?

Hi all,
just wanted to share an experience of mine with the dock, and how I resolved it...
When the screen was closed, if either side of the prime was pushed against the dock, i heard almost a cracking noise... due to some of the threads on here that got me a little worried.
I noticed the hinge had a bit to much 'give' when wobbled up and down,
I then started to open the dock.
I first removed the rubber pads on the bottom (which hide screws) one of these pads (nearest the dock connector) came off WITH the screw attached to it!!
low and behold, the screw on the other side was lose too! I put the screws back in and tightened them (if you are going to do this be careful not to over tighten them) all those nasty noises are now gone
effectively, the docking port was not being supported because of this... I wonder if this is the cause of some of these broken screens??

I am looking at buying the dock but I wonder if a screen protector would be good in protecting the screen against these cracks that the dock may cause. Another idea I had is to maybe put some foam tape along the sides just so its a bit softer for the screen to lay on and gives it a little extra space so the keys don't come near the screen. I really want the keyboard cos honestly I hate most software ones.

step three, tighten screws with a clockwise motion
step four, re-attach pads

im having this exact problem.. it sounds like sand between dock and tablet, scratching the tablets screen -- very creepy lol.
gonna try the screw thing right away, reporting back later.

I was reading this thread and remembered how my dock hinge was getting a bit loose and how annoyed I was with it. As soon as I read this thread, I thought, let's have a look. To my surpise both screws were almost fully unscrewed. Screwed the up not overly tight and the hinge is once again as it was the first day. Unbelievable.
Many thanks to the OP for a good hint.
I had the same noises and after checking and tightening the screws it's gone. 2 of the 4 screws were loose.

It is not very clear but what color is the hole under the soft pads? and can u tell me if it is plastic or is the hole also aluminium?
My CG dock also had the two screws on the hinge side backed out. The adhesive material stayed on the dock instead of the rubber foot so it wasn't readily apparent. But, when I pressed a screw driver through to the head of the screw, one of the two was obviously ready to fall out, fully unscrewed. The other may have had a turn or so engaged. Tightened them and no more creak on that side.
I haven't checked the two opposite the hinge side yet, but a quick squeeze does cause creaking there too.

One of the screws actually inside the dock came out of mine and was subsequently lost. Anyone know what exact size these screws are, or where to get some replacements?

I LOL'ed after seeing this.....removed the paws.....and the screws came out with them....not even a little tight....scary but fixed...thanks op!
I opened the rubber feet and noticed that both the screws were completely out. Tightened them and put the rubber feet back. Checked the front screws and they were good.
Haha well both of my back screws came out with the pad... My tablet still 'wobbles' some when docked, even after tightening them... Hmmm =/

Wow they came out with the pads. Totally fixed the creaking. and the fact that it would separate when held by the corner. I too have the wobble but only at the most widely opened point when gravity pulls it down, but we all know its top heavy. I would have added more battery to the base totally max it out. The damn thing is 60% empty. Not that Im complaining about battery life its amazing. But the balance when opened would have been better and would have approached 24 hour battery life which is the ultimate goal.

I've had my C6802 for a week now. I've been loving it, and I didn't understand why people are dissing it about pocket ability. It fits in my pants pocket just fine. I just make sure that the left front pocket is reserved for the phone alone, no keys, change, or any other scratcher. Breast pocket is just disaster waiting to happen - button down flap can't even come over the phone. So that's out.
Today I sat down at the restaurant to use the Wi-Fi on my laptop, and I hooked up the XZU to download a movie through Media Go. I noticed the phone rocking back and forth diagonally, not laying flat on the table top. I thought maybe the table is sloping on that side. So, I moved the phone to another spot; same thing. I picked up the phone and eyeballed it along its profile! Alas! It was bent!
I remembered...... Aluminum frame..... so I flexed it diagonally to fix it, and it straightened out!
So be warned folks! Even if it fits in your pocket, sitting down with the phone in the pocket will definitely bend it! This might even lead to the glass corners popping out!
Oh, that's.. bad I usually put my phone on the table no matter what, but i'll keep this in the back of my head. Thanks for sharing.

I do set the phone on the table too. I believe I twisted it sitting in the car from the house to the restaurant. It was a short drive; 2 blocks. So I didn't think much of it.
post a youtube video or pics to let us see, as this is sorta scary and might become usual as if this happens to more than yourself at least we can all tell sony support its a common fault
yup, there was a thread somewhere, someone asking how much it costs to replace the screen/digitizer because the screen cracked when he sat on it while ZU in the back pocket.
Gotta be careful...

I wonder, from what point it stops being a faulty design... I mean, not all of us are made the same. If a 200kg (about 400lbs?) guy sat on it at the wrong angle, I would not blame Sony at all... A steel sheet 5mm thick will bend under those kinda weight...

Even if someone of 40 kg would sit on it while on the rear pocket I would not blame Sony. If I remember well you are living in Vietnam, I have the phone everyday on my front pocket and drive scooter but my phone is still perfectly flat.
I do not put it on any too tide jean, and as soon as i sit completely on a car or chair I do remove it before sit. If not it is on a bag. So scare to break it, after all this phone is so thin and have so large and thin glass on it. I had to change iPhone glass of people siting on there sofa, same thing can happen here.

BINGO. This was my only concern regarding the Ultra from day one. I even wrote about it hear. I don't think you are the first to do this and you wont be the last either. Point is how do you know the integrity of the water resistance has not now been comprised? You don't!
I love the Ultra BUT putting that beast in a pocket was simply asking for eventual trouble. As you wrote how could an aluminium frame that dimension prevent twisting?

With great respect to you Sir this is not a Sony 'problem'. THE 'problem' with the Ultra is portability. Woman can use hand bags men will try and use trousers. The Ultra is simply to large for general trouser use. Add to this the materials used, glass, plastics and Aluminium and what can we expect? Even titanium at that thinness will eventually flex. This, to me, is a classic example of a device defeating its own purpose.
I love the Ultra I love my Z and 10.1 Z tablet. I have gone back to the plastic smaller world of the new Note 3 as I know I just could not live with the portability problems with the beautiful Ultra.
There are only two tragedies in life. One is NOT having what we want the other is having it.
This will solve itself as long as you live in a temperate climate with seasonal change. What i'm trying to say is: Winter is coming, and we will use jackets/coats which will make our lives much simpler. To the people of SE Asia, Africa, Australia, Southern Europe and Southern USA, i'm very sorry

I personally keep it in my jacket pocket or in the jeans pocket, and sometimes they are really tight, and 80% of the time the ZU pops out a few inches from them, but my phone is still perfect.
On the other hand I think that aluminum bending on this device would be so limited that you can't even find out: phone is resting (face or back) on glass.
In no part the aluminum touches the table.
And even if you do manage to bend your device, I think it would have been much more than keeping it in a pocket. It would be all misaligned from angle to angle, at the point that the glass would break for the force pressing every time you lay it flat or you use it.
I wouldn't mind seeing pics too before saying any more things.

Guys, any phone will do this. I am sorry that the OP experienced damage, but if anything it's the fault of the larger dimensions of the phone, not its thinness. Think about it: what constitutes the vast majority of a phone's thickness? It's the internal volume, obviously. It's the internal volume that was reduced in order to make the phone thin, not the thickness of the frame or glass sheets. Those would be the same regardless of how thick or thin the phone as, as they're just "caps." The fact that the phone is longer and wider than usual will allow you to exert more torque on the frame because of leverage, but the frame itself is no weaker than any other phone, and probably stronger than many.
Just put a lanyard on it and hang it on your neck...
Worry about it being stolen while hanging infront of your chest? Then place it under your shirt!

Yeah, I am very careful about pick-pocketers in Hanoi, so I try not to put it in my back pocket anyway
It fits my front pocket fine, but I find it a bit hard to get it out while riding my bike, find it harder to answer it one-handed, and even more difficult to put it back into the front pocket while riding the bike. Depending on other things I have in front pocket, I have to stand on my bike while riding to put it back into the pocket.
(for those of you who don't know Vietnam, it must sound crazy )
Can't wait until winter so that I can use my inside jacket pocket.
And back to topic, I agree with most posts so far.
It is about portability problem, not design or manu quality problem. Applying torque on something so wide, long and thin must be avoided.

There is nothing wrong with the phone. Nothing wrong with the build quality, or the frame, construction... none of that!
The phone fits in pants pocket. I use the front pocket. If you do carry it in your front pants pocket, be aware that sitting down with the phone in your front pocket will place torque on the phone, twisting it. My phone was NOT twisted enough to even consider it damaged. I just noticed that it wasn't perfectly flat when I placed it on the table. I twisted it back and corrected it.
After that little incident, I now make sure that I take it out of my pocket when I get in the car, or sit down. So, guys, becareful.

I have been using this gear keeper. The retention force is a bit strong, but very solid. I also have a larger sunglasses cloth bag to keep it protected till a case arrives. The MW600 works well for bluetooth call access/audio while the phone is tucked away. I listen to internet news while riding a motorcycle.

Interesting indeed. Your reply would have been just as fitting in the post I opened under accessories section about how people carry their ZU :good:
Do you keep the phone dangling on you, or into a pocket while it is like it's on a lanyard and pull it when needed, or do you attach it to a bag of some kind and keep it in there??
I can see it being used in a million different ways... How do you use it?

I've had my C6802 for a week now. I've been loving it, and I didn't understand why people are dissing it about pocket ability. It fits in my pants pocket just fine. I just make sure that the left front pocket is reserved for the phone alone, no keys, change, or any other scratcher. Breast pocket is just disaster waiting to happen - button down flap can't even come over the phone. So that's out.
Today I sat down at the restaurant to use the Wi-Fi on my laptop, and I hooked up the XZU to download a movie through Media Go. I noticed the phone rocking back and forth diagonally, not laying flat on the table top. I thought maybe the table is sloping on that side. So, I moved the phone to another spot; same thing. I picked up the phone and eyeballed it along its profile! Alas! It was bent!
I remembered...... Aluminum frame..... so I flexed it diagonally to fix it, and it straightened out!
So be warned folks! Even if it fits in your pocket, sitting down with the phone in the pocket will definitely bend it! This might even lead to the glass corners popping out!

Just two things.
One: it's the 29th, you posted on 23rd.
Two: several people asked you for pics, and you posted none. If you had time to open a topic about it, you sure have some to take 2 simple pics to prove what you're saying.
That said, until you do post some pictures, I call BS on the whole "the ZU bends if kept in pockets" argument.

Pictures of what? My twisted phone? I am not twisting my phone again just to provide you with pictures.
My phone got twisted, I corrected it, and I advised other pocketers to be careful. There's no evidence to be had. You obviously read only my original post, and omitted the one on page 2.
I use it for safety mostly. If I am at work the phone stays in my pocket(front or back) while attached. When sitting down it might rest in my lap depending on the meeting or I unsnap(the clip mechanism is really-too stiff) it and set it on the table or my desk. I might leave it dangling when tieing my shoes.
I had it in a jeans pocket while riding a motorcycle for less than a mile., and I have <1/2 millimeter play or travel on a flat table. Lanyard to front camera diagonal is fine, but headphone jack to opposite corner wiggles a little. I haven't tried unbending it. I could try to take a photo, but there likely wouldn't be much to see.
