Attention All DX2 Users - Motorola Droid X2

YES it is me, and I am alive, but I'm here on business.
I know I already made a "goodbye" post, but this is a bit more than that this time.
I'm going to clear something up really quick that a lot of people have still for some reason are asking questions about.
THERE IS NEITHER ANY DEVELOPMENT NOR SUPPORT FOR PREVIOUS DEVELOPMENT HAPPENING
I can say this with confidence as I was pretty much the only developer left on the device when it died out. I was there from the beginning and I sure as hell fought until the end, but it was the end. I'm on a Moto X now and haven't even rooted it (short of a bit of initial work with Hashcode and some CM development there). I'm going to clear up a few other things that people have had questions about over the years also.
Q: Are you still supporting the DX2/MX2?
A: Nope. No one is. Look at the big bold letters.
Q: Will you support it again in the future?
A: That doesn't even make sense.
Q: Will there be an update to CM11/KK?
A: No... Hopefully you get the point by now.
Q: What ever happen with KEXEC?
A: That is actually a funny question, and the short answer is... Yes I got it to work.
Q: If you got KEXEC working, why didn't you release it?
A: It was never stable enough. I couldn't guarantee a reboot into a new kernel and sometimes it would just sit at the Motorola logo. One thing I always tried to guarantee out of all my development efforts was consistency and stability (queue CM 9/10 jokes). But seriously. If I wanted you to have the bleeding edge of development EVERY time, I would have, but it would have been too crazy of an effort and too confusing for the community. And I hope you understand that.
Q: Are you going to release your KEXEC code so that others may try?
A: No. It's not that I don't want you guys to try it out yourselves or anything... It's just that I know you won't get it to work. And I mean no offense by that. I was running it through command lines, shells within shells, back and forth between recoveries just to get it to work once. (Again, no offense) most of you can't even build an app, let alone try to fudge around with the kernel, install the modules, modify another bootable kernel, then start the phone again. So no, I will not release it.
Q: How did you manage to even do all of this?
A: I think it should be safe to say now after all these years. I had an unlocked development device. Meaning I could flash whatever I wanted to wherever I wanted. Recoveries, kernels, system images, roots, everything. It was how I was able to confirm that changing the VRAM/RAM ratios wasn't going to help the stability of the ROMs. It was how I was able to develop CM without having to SBF every time and reroot because I had CWMR on the actually recovery partition. It was how I was able to test new kernels and write KEXEC for the phone.
On a smaller note, I also had the source to the nvidia props (all the painful binaries that caused half of our problems with display locking, etc.). Though I never really got into working with them.
Q: OMG DZK!!!! HOW'D YA MANAGED 2 DO DAT? DAT'S SO00oooO COOL! WHY U NO [email protected]!21
A: I had no reason to or I was told not to. Take your pick. If I had no reason to but used all of them anyway, people would get mad because I was some patron saint of the DX2 with magical powers and didn't share with them out of greed (which I got enough of as it was). If I was told not to, then I was doing what I was told so that I could try my hardest to keep this device alive while lying to all of you about why I was able to figure it all out. Either way, I was not getting anywhere and the small faction against me were only going to use it against me even more. Again, I hope you understand.
Q: Soo... what are you doing now?
A: Honestly? School. Some of you may know that I was in college trying to get my degree in Aerospace Engineering. When I left I was in my senior year, working on my senior design project, trying to get a damn plane to fly (pretty difficult I might add). So I had to leave. I earned my degree (YAY!!!) but after that I was so long out of the game, I couldn't just pick it back up. Compile that with a new job of 30-40 hours a week (vs when I had no job) and it just became impossible. I started graduate school to get my Master's in the following fall and it just got worse from there. Anyway, last November I got a Moto X and I haven't looked back.
To all of you who are here still (many of whom I never had the pleasure of knowing) thank you for all of you help and support throughout the years. I hope you understand for a brief moment what I was trying to say. You guys were in many ways like a second family to me and I really appreciated it.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

I honestly can't believe I keep getting asked this, but no. I am not Melvin. We even traceroute'd him in the IRC once and though the location ecapes me, it was nowhere near me anyway. Melvin was a troll who thought he could infiltrate our community with false hopes and lies. Besides. I was far too busy doing work on the phone to try to keep up with multiple accounts. Let alone try to troll on one.

Glad to hear you got your degree man, and once again thank you for all you did for that phone.

besides, we all know I was Melvin!
(NO, NOT really, just inside joke some of yall will get lol)
cant wait to get a new device, it's been hell not having one at all...(poor ol GNEX had enough of my abuse and died I think it just missed eclipse so much and had a broken heart)
and to DZK, you are one of the most beloved x2 devs, and one of the most knowledgeable. those who were ever against you were either just too sensitive or ignorant at the time.
I'm pretty sure you can't answer this question in detail, but I'm not asking for that, I'm just curious how you were able to get those prop blobs?! inside friend? hack into something? or did you just cheesecake that **** to death?!(lmfao YES I KNOW that's NOT something you can get from cheesecake),
speaking of cheesecake, wonder if those servers are even still up?? hahaha
hopefully I'll be seeing everyone again soon somewhere just started new job, waiting for my first couple biweekly checks to roll in(horsedook biweekly junk gggaaahhh)
and I always had a feeling you had hands on a development device, you did too much "deep" stuff and messing around to NOT have one. nice

Congrats on the degree and job, Fly High and don't look back to often. ?

Thanks for all the hard work.

All broken, and still farted ?..
That's some good stuff their bud I was just, doing a little looking into turning my old one which is still pristine amazingly enough, with the dock into a personal nostalgic desk clock in webtop mode and came across this haven't done much work into it or even looking yet just know that it likes to go to sleep much like I do in my old age but yeah thanks again man this is my OG forum for my crack flashing sickness much love and Best wishes.

Full Froyo OTA File (Not a ROM)

Well.... It has happened again... I get an OTA and the ish talking starts bout me holding back the "community"... So again I'm going to release the file I have... This time will be a little different though. I stated VERY clearly in the radio thread what I was doing and the fact that this OTA WILL NOT FLASH nor will anyone know wtf to do with it.... No one listened and instead ran their necks so F it.... Once you realize that there are several hundred .p patch files that will need to be applied to individual files, in succession, through 5 builds, then figuring out what kind of patches they are to begin with, then figuring out you need a specific binary to apply them, one you cant get, your on the right track.... Good luck with that... I'm sorry about this but honestly I'm tired of working on a device I don't even use, for days and days, with pneumonia mind you, for people to talk ish and complain about what I am doing. So I'm gonna leave it in the hands of the "well wishers" and let them take care of this for you guys... To those that havent *****ed, I apologize, but I'm pretty fed up with the amount of ignorance around here... So anyways, heres your OTA... Have fun with it and I will stop back by with an "I told you so" every now and then.... CR
Froyo Espresso OTA
lol im glad i have an epic. i just wanted to see what you were talking about in your twitter feed
People are still saying you're holding back from the community? Yeah, they're definitely ignorant. :/ I wasn't exactly around when this stuff was going on before, but I was lurking and even then it was pretty dumb.
Sorry that it has to happen this way, CR! Thank you for the work you've contributed thus far and all the great gifts you come bearing when you stop by.(Like this latest radio).
Well thanks to everyone who whines and *****es... a true dev comes along to help and you find a way to make him leave haha.. thanks CR for the work and trying mate. Good thing I'm getting new G2 on Tuesday

Well, I managed to update to this using some secret sauce, but I have now permanently lost root and S-OFF. Exploid and Rage Against the Cage-based exploits DO NOT WORK on this version of the kernel (2.6.32.29) included in this OTA.
On the plus side it does have USB/Wifi tethering built-in, so my need for root has dramatically decreased.
Just stick with whatever you have now until a new exploit comes out for >= 2.6.32.29, but don't hold your breath since it's unlikely ANY time soon.
:/ it is sad....at least you gave us the radio! And actually tried to patch the files! Thanks for all the work....hope you come back!

There is a quick and simple solution to this problem and I think that most will agre that it is for the better of the community.\
First call these people out by name, post their PM's if any publicly
Then have their accounts suspended for no less than 30 days.
How dare someone make a statement like that, We got what 1 maybe 2 developers left with this device? Are you flipping kidding me? You asses are sitting there complaining about how the development on this device is dead, yet when someone has something, and is working n something you jump the freaking gun with stupid ill thought out comments.
So now it up to you lil ^itches that think you know everything to develop for this device. You wanted what he had released so freaking bad. So lets see what ya got... Hell there is no reason why you should not be able to crank out a working ROM with what he released by the of the day today.... I mean hell if you can't then YOU held back development of this phone.
XDA needs to do something about this.
The whole 10 post rule is BS. It does nothing
I think it needs to become a pay to play forum
I know thats not how it SHOULD be, and that it
COULD hinder development. but I DOUBT it.
Personally.....
CR your work is awesome, I appreciate it very much. Thank you for what you have done,
to the ^itches.... Thanks now I gotta go buy a new damn phone, that developers want to work on. Hopefully you are broke ass kids and cant afford a new one and will stay here and die with this forum, and phone. After all you started this...
Wow CR this sux that people's ignorance has to stop us from getting froyo finally with flash possibilities. This sux...
Thanks Chief for all the hard work. I thought your last update was the best rom and didn't have any problems. I guess its time to upgrade.

I am pretty sure I know who it was... If you read through the RADIO thread there are 2 or 3 that were practically begging for the files he had.
I wont call them out myself being that I DONT FOR SURE KNOW. but if you read through there you could possibly figure it out. I am not encouraging anything, but I am sure a few people around here know of a few ways that will have their ISP shut them down for a day or so....

you took the words right out my mouth
Chief wasn't the only one being bugged about the files. I've got a crap load of PMs and tweets asking me for the ota. I'm doing my best to provide CR with the files he needs to get this working for you guys. Hell, I don't even have a slide. Did I have to contact Chief letting him in on the file? Nope. If you guys would have waited a day or 2, you probably would have had a working OTA. But no, you had to keep *****ing to me and CR.
Chief, if you still want the files, hit me up on G and ill grab them.

Most of the people who wanted to see this zip released are not at all interested in actually running this rom. In fact, the more interesting bits are the sdio and tiwlan files that we might be able to fix the still-borked wifi in CM7.
Chiefz: nobody intended to give you ****, but there is absolute truth in the saying that many hands make light work. The more people looking at this, the more likely it is that it can be put to good use. The folks in #mytouchslide will be putting lots of eyes on this to see what outstanding issues we might be able to fix.
Thank you for releasing this and I'm sorry if you felt people were hassling you.

[Q] Explain to me this....

First and foremost, and I post this topic to mean no disrespect what-so-ever
I say again, I mean absolutely no disrespect. Now to my topic. Why does everyone on this board dedicate so much time and effort to a phone that is completely obsolete? Don't get me wrong, I still have my Droid Eris and I use it each and every day, but when my contract is up I am going to be getting a/the newer/newest phone out there. I just can't come to grips with why so many people dedicate so much time to putting together these roms and updates for a phone that is in several respects dead technology.
I mean no disrespect, and perhaps there is an explanation out there that I can't comprehend at the moment, but as I see it there are bigger and better things out there to spend time and work on.
I appreciate all the hard work that has been put into this phone by all the developers associated with these works... but a certain point a white flag must be raised. These 3.0 Sense roms that are popping up left and right... they are not intended for the Droid Eris, so why waste your time trying to make these work in perfect working condition, because let's face it, they won't. You're fighting a battle that cannot and will not be one. There will come a day that you may look back and wonder why time was wasted on this phone.
My $.02 with $.05 extra.
No disrespect, but why did you just spend so much time nay saying something that others clearly enjoy doing (developers) and using (users, obviously). You might look back at this tomorrow and wonder...
Part of the fun is getting a dead technology to work better than others think it possibly can (HTC, Verizon, you)
Sent from my ERIS using XDA Premium App
Because these developers have been able to take "dead technology" and get it running faster than the newest phone out there. My Eris currently out runs my wifes TB and also runs the newest software that currently isn't available to her phone without root, so I give much respect to the devs for what they can do.

And also...I have nothing else to do.. I'm disabled
No disrespect, Btw, you wont beleive, This phone is just launched in india,
http://www.mtsindia.in/smartphone/products.htm
There are lots of people still using G1, hero, droid eris technology.
now, for doing into deep in any technology, we need to learn some dead technology, we need to learn basics for being high.
We still learn C language, do you thing people use software developed in turbo 'C'.
Second thing is FUN, You might waste time in playing golf, watching porn playing PSP games etc etc.
Developer here like there time to be wasted in porting rom. sorry no disrespect.
If someone donate developers a high End phone then they might waste their time in alive technology.
Even though they have highend phone they still love to port for droid eris. Its all fun, way of thinking.
please dont take me wrong in any way, please.
You are right in some point, I agree with you. But unless and untill i didnt get any highend phone, I have to stick with it. I am a learner, before jumping to sensation. let me wash my hands to droid eris
Thanks to developer like, erasmux, tazz, macrodroid, workshed and manymore, bcoz of them we really get some good rom here. Its there work only for fun. (no $$$$)
Not everyone can afford the latest and greatest phone out there.
Why is anyone dedicated to anything? In the end the solar system will be swallowed up by the sun.
Because They Can
Im one of those that cant afford one of the newer phones and was just given this phone a couple months ago. If it wasnt for these great developers my experience with this phone would be much less enjoyable.
So to all the Devs in this forum I thank you for all your hard work and please keep up the good work.
Why do people enjoy solving puzzles? It is fun and rewarding. There is always room to make these devices better than they were when we bought them.
The Eris is still my only phone and some people are in the same situation. I am extremely grateful for the devs' work. There was a time when people said that the Eris would NEVER be able to handle Gingerbread. On the contrary, it runs gingerbread better than any other version of Android. It is amazing that this phone keeps becoming more and more powerful. These devs make our phones feel future proof.

My next thought would be this... If you don't get/can't comprehend why the devs are still making roms for the Eris... unroot your Eris, use it stock and don't use any of the ROMs and you won't have to worry about it

^THIS^ is why I am thankful for all the Devs that work on this "old obsolete" Eris!
Or maybe not even that. I'm still under contract until April with my Eris. I'm not the primary on this account, so I have to wait my 2 years in order to get a discount.
Plus many enjoy the challenge of porting the OS to older hardware.
The CM team still maintains support for the original production Android phone, the G1.
Since the G1 and Eris are still very similar in performance and specs having them tweak CM to run decently on the G1 helps the Eris.
I think other than the Nexus 1, all the phones with the trackball are pretty much the same performance-wise. All have a ~500 Mhz Arm V6 CPU.

I can honestly say the eris is the phone I have the longest in all my years owning a cell phone. Yeah there are new and flashy phones that always come out but since rooting and loading zach's pure vanilla rom on it i haven't looked back. My contract is up in october and I have no plans on upgrading before then and maybe even after that. The eris dev's are excellent and they have really extended the life of the eris well past its scheduled funeral.
old is gold.
Funny...I do actually get this same question from some of the folks I know who have jumped and continue to jump on the latest and greatest that comes out. I used to be that way too. Then I explain to them the way they do in those Visa commercials....
Cost of donating to the developers for their hard work $ a few bucks here and there...(this is the most important one! )
Cost of upgrading to the latest and greatest phone $0 dollars
Cost of watching the phone guy at Best Buy mobile look at my phone and say "wow...your running that? ....on that phone????"........ $$$ PRICELESS
It's really very simple. People who stay with the Eris stay because either they like it just fine or can't afford to switch. Therefore, the efforts of devs which improve their experience are valiant and well worth. If you're unhappy with the Eris and can afford to switch go ahead and do so....and enjoy.
That being said, I see no useful or valid point in keeping this thread alive and personally wouldn't mind seeing it locked/deleted.
why they do it

Firstly,
I'd suggest the Eris doesn't have a "dead technology" just that there have been dramatic improvements in the hardware and hardware costs that are available to cellphone manufacturers of today compared to 2 years ago.
secondly,
for a cellphone manufacturer you get the most bang for your buck putting your software and hardware design engineers on the next best thing, rather than keeping an older model competitive... where would you put your money? continuing to optimize software for an old model (that you already got paid for) for better performance,or make the next phone really appealing to the consumer. It's the world of "planned obsolescence", and it keeps us buying newer phones from the manufacturers. The market's so huge, with so much competition that the development pace is very high.
on the Developers,
I'd suggest most of these guys seem have a passion for coding, so I'd guess making cleaner, more fully optimized code is the driver for them, the challenge of making a bit of old hardware competitive with the newer stuff seems like a complex puzzle, that they like solving... we just so happen to benefit from their passion.
You'll notice most of them don't ask for any type of payment, for what could be weeks and months of effort (in their free time), that's why it's nice to support a dev that's made something that saves you time or get a lot of use out of...
Keep up the good work everyone, I sincerely appreciate all the hard work!!!
First and foremost, and I post this reply to mean no disrespect what-so-ever
1) people still under contract
2) people unwilling/unable to purchase a newer phone
3) the phone is still very powerful.
4) most aren't yuppies that feel the need to upgrade everytime a company releases their sandbagged technology.
5) the foundation for learning how to develop rom's is here. learn here while the learning is good
truth be told, your post and this thread didn't need to be created at all. why do some people drive honda's and not just throw them away for a lexus? must be nice to have grown up with a silver spoon in ones mouth and have a view of the world that is disposable.

Because it's fun to see how far we can push these phones beyond their stated limits
Also for some devs i would gather it's experience too. Experience that could get them jobs, maybe even with the company that builds the phones you're deving on. Best way to learn something is to jump in and do it.
These phones are fairly cheap now and it seems it's one that had a lot of potential. I think we can all agree that HTC really didn't optimize it to it's fullest.

Is anyone else getting tired of waiting for ICS?

Why couldn't they release Alphas? I'd be fine with spotty wi-fi and no video.
And now everything is apparently done including video yet still no release? GUYS, stop being such perfectionists, release alphas/betas. WHATEVER. Just get something out so we won't have to use a phone OS on our tablets anymore. PLEASE.
No-one cares about the TP's garbage camera and microphone.

I'm pretty sure i will get flammed for this, and that is ok.... Post like these are why XDA had become what it is now.... smh, as far as ICS, I agree with those who have said this before, it will come when it is ready.

I don't have the skills.
But I promise if I did have the skills I sure as hell wouldn't sit on my ass with a perfectly capable ROM when thousands of people are clamoring for it like rabid animals.

Oh please, the ROM has been ready for weeks now.
I'm sure all of us here have flashed ROMs on our phones/tablets that were spotty and were perfectly fine with them because we knew they were just Alphas/Betas and even in that state they were far better than what we had before.
Patience, young padawan. Good things come to those who wait.
Lets see here we get to install Android on our devices for free and the ROMs are all developed by volunteers. Be grateful that we have a stable Gingerbread port, we will get ICS when its ready. If you want to speed things up get involved with the port or donate towards it.
Can't believe I am even going to enter this thread and reply - but I'd rather wait till they are happy with it and how it will perform than to get some half-cocked ROM released just to shut people up.
If they released it as it is now... people would just start complaining about what they already know doesn't work... EXAMPLE: how many times do people bring up WIFI and sound distortion in regards to the current ROMs?! Everyone knows it's a problem, yet the posts/threads just keep coming.
Let them polish it and enjoy what you have now. It WILL come, but you will appreciate it a lot I promise you when it's released if they take the time to internally test it and feel confident they have done all they can before the first release is placed in user's hands. Another thread about this really isn't going to change anything.
Personally I'd rather the mods just remove these threads that pop up or consolidate them somewhere - so people can easily find the threads that will help them to solve their problems.
Not trying to bait you - I promise - and you are entitled to your opinion, but relax man - it's all going to be ok - I promise! :-D
I too am anxious to get ICS on my touchpad and I do agree that I would have liked to see a beta or an alpha to test it out, but I don't think this is the way to go about asking for it...although I dont know that there is a good way to ask for it, in any case I get where your coming from
Well there is the PreludeDrew Evervolv ICS ROM that just released, you can try that out if your that impatient...
For me, I've tweaked CM7 so much that it doesn't look or feel the same anymore. So basicly i've 'tweaked' it to my taste, and i'm lovin it!
I think the reason why they won't release an alpha or beta, is that people are still trying or getting into CM7. And for a person who is comfortable with CM7, why upgrade to a more buggier OS and nothing works?
EndlessMike, no one owes you a thing. You didn't buy your touchpad from them, aren't paying them to develop or use roms, they didn't promise you a release and didn't imply that you'll get anything...ever.
If you want ICS, buy a Xoom. Better yet, take the time out to learn how to code and develop roms and do it yourself instead of wasting your life away hoping someone will spoon-feed you. Stop complaining.

If you think this wait for a free product is bad, try waiting for Samsung, HTC, Motorola etc to release their ICS update for products people PAID for. The lucky ones are going to have to wait months. The unlucky ones don't even get an update at all.
Considering that that the Touchpad was never even meant to be an Android device in the first place and when most of us bought it, Android for the Touchpad didn't even exist, I'm quite happy with what we currently have and what we will be getting whenever we get it. It's far more than I ever expected and I very much am thankful to the developers for it.

I can't imagine anything more tedious for a Developer than a perfect ROM, especially when the community requests a taste and later demands perfection.
dis thread is ignant, yo.
You guys are late. I stopped checking for it 2 months ago. It'll come out when it comes out.
It saddens and sickens me to see such threads being made. The ungratefulness being shown to the developers is just sickening; and for some reason, it is worse on this forum than on others.
Rather than be excited and respectful, this entire community is degenerating into a group of whiny, self absorbed group who think that the devs live to serv them, and should bow to their whim.
What i wouldn't give to be able to close this trash myself..

Or maybe the developers can give the community what they want instead of holding back the ROM for inane reasons?
I'm grateful for what they're doing and it's awesome that my $100 is about to get even better with a bit more patience; but I'm not going to pretend for a second I like what's going on here.

Why don't you go outside and find something better to do other than flashing roms that barely work?

My apologies

I was off to a great start on XDA, helped a lot of people, made a mod or two and gathered a decent number of thanks.
Lately though, I've been frustrated and it's showing in my posts.
I'm frustrated because after probably more than 150$ in donations to different people, it seems that developers left one right after the other and that money I gave to encourage development is now used to develop for another phone.
I understand there's no obligation for developers to stick to a phone for ever, everyone wants to play with the new hardware and being a hardware junkie myself, I really can't blame anyone for that.
I gave to Scott because I ran his ROM for quite awhile and it was really stable. Probably because it is stock with the fat trimmed but that met my needs. Later on I hear about all this talk going on about how he's not a real developer and he left.
Then I gave money to bored at least twice, once for his S4 Rom, and once again to help him get a new laptop. Shortly after he vanished for personal reasons. It's probably something big, probably not his fault, bad things happen and sometimes our priorities changes but it seemed that once again I encouraged someone who had to go away.
Lastly, I donated twice to Joel for his S4 ROM and to encourage him to continue developing and we now know what is happening. He doesn't seem to have the time and with the Roms coming out for the GNex and the One X, if I was a developer, I would be all over the new hardware as well.
So those events made me frustrated and I think I managed to p!ss off quite a few people so I'm sorry for that. I tarnished my own reputation because instead of accepting all that, I wanted something for my donations and I got nothing.
I decided to change the way I see things and consider my donations as a contribution to work that was done in the past. I used CleanRom so I donated for that, I used S4 a lot and Bored helped me port his blue theme so that it works with 3.6 Roms, and I donated for that. I didn't really run Joel's ROM a lot because the lack of bluetooth and screen rotation lag was too much for me but still, he put some good stuff together and it was good while it lasted.
So once again, I apologize for anyone I offended or rubbed the wrong way. Donating only to see people vanish got the best of me and I'm paying for it now because of my latest posts.

no hard feelings bro. id feel pretty pissed too if i donated money and it didnt lead to anything. this community, is broken right now. we have about three devs for cdma and 1 gsm left. i want to stay but it seems i cant! im pretty sure im leaving to get a GSM gnex and go to tmobile. its just better for me right now. believe me, THIS IS THE INTERNET!!!! if anyone gets offended, they are p*ssies
I started to think of the fact that the money I donated would have bought me almost a third of a One X at full retail price but developers do release ROMs before getting donations so I'm trying to see it as contribution done in the past, not in the future.
hey man, i'm just as upset as you with the developers leaving. our community really has been shot to hell, and i don't really see it recovering very well, and that sucks. we started off as a small, close, tight-knit community from like weeks before launch date. many of us were familiar faces from the Inc forum, so we were enjoying ourselves. once we got bigger, i guess everything began to get on peoples' nerves: lack of AOSP, RIL, kernel source, ICS not being released, etc etc.
now, we have less than a handful of developers left, as they've all left for the nexus.
hang in there, the source/ update drought cant last forever. If you can make it through the wait, it's inevitable that the combination of the hardware + the price of this phone will bring talent. I wouldn't be surprised if a few of those folks you mention above make their way back here again. Being stuck on 2 year old software isn't really exciting for many devs, but it's where we're at for the time being.
Nice to see that you have a new outlook dude

I like where this thread is going and I agree with the sentiments behind it, hopefully no one will come in here and turn this into a troll-fest.
Personally, I think this is a natural (though unpleasant) thing that's going on. In the forums for my last device, this exact same thing happened - as frustration grew over manufacturer/carrier delays for the next big/promised release and source code, things got bad in the community. It got ugly. Then the release finally came and source finally came and some really good things happened, including CM9. I haven't been back there in a long time so I have no idea what it's like now, but that's the way I left it. I'm hoping once we have source that good things will happen. I believe we'll see some new faces and maybe some old ones.
The one thing that complicates matters in the Rezound forums is the issue of donations (in my opinion). In my old device's forums, a lot of the devs (maybe most) refused to take donations, or at least discouraged donations, and actually it seemed the most talented devs were the ones most likely to discourage/least likely to accept donations. Here, a lot of the devs (most? all?) accept and even encourage donations, in some cases outright asking for them. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, I've donated to at least 3 Rezound devs myself, but there are risks that come along with accepting/encouraging donations. The people who donate then expect certain things, expectations are higher, and if you don't deliver or if you leave before delivering, you have to expect some people are going to take it hard. I'm not saying I agree with that, it's just human nature. There is a fine line between donating to encourage someone and outright paying them for an expected outcome.
I don't think I ever posted anything negative towards any dev, and I've never taken sides in the current "war" that's going on. I must admit there is one thing I really don't get in all this, one thing I really would like to post and ask about because I'm honestly confused by it, but I know 100% it would turn into a troll feeding frenzy, so I'm just going to keep it to myself and hope for better days ahead.
Personally I love this phone (aside from battery life) and think it's still better than a lot of devices coming out now. I'd love to get more into the dev game myself if I could just. find. the. frickin. time...
That was long-winded, I apologize...
I thank you all make good points and I feel the same way also and I'm so tired of all the childish stuff that just keeps going on iv been with most these dev's sense(pun intened) the inc and they all are very talented but really don't blame them for leaving whether it be personal or not.on that note thank you to all the modders themers and devs and anyone that's a helper and not a troll

I don't blame people for wanting to go develop for a newer hardware platform, I would do the same and if I could afford it right now, I would buy a GNEX and let Google feed be with updates.
We still love you.
The development section hasn't had anything good in at least a month.
I don't see the rage about the new S3, or Nexus (plus thought nexus was blocked for US sales??). I'm really enjoying the Resound and am having Zero issues at the moment with it. It would be nice to get some of the new updates rolling quicker with the phone, but the amount of work developers have put into the current roms is amazing. They are all very talented people, and there's no possible way to thank them enough for all they've done. I just do really hope some end up trailing back in our direction and bring/breathe more life into this phone..... Particularly Jellybean.

Let's see VZW/HTC stated this phone officially would have ICS Q1, it is now Q3 and they have yet to deliver. This phone has already passed it's shelf life so I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't see the official ICS/source for another month, or two, or three. It sucks but you just gotta face it, this phone is dead. Great phone with a lot of potential, troll community destroys any hope of AOSP or the improvement of current roms.
The thing is, manufacturers have zero motivation to update the software on their phones because they make no money off of that and have to spend money on development.
If not coming up for an update for the Rezound and putting the latest on the One X, they ensure that anyone who wants the latest android will spend money on a new phone.
Yeah we're rooted and we do have the latest, but despite that, I think we all share that itch to get the newer phone with the slightly better CPU and a little bit more RAM.
It's a fact that faster hardware doesn't always make for a faster phone, the quality of the software running on it makes a huge difference as well. I see the same thing on my rezound, sense launcher has never been smoother while 3rd party launchers like Nova, Apex, Go, have never been slower. Open the app drawer, everything is smooth but flip through screens on the desktop and you get that low framerate feel.
I wouldn't consider the GNEX too old to buy but I'll be enjoying my Rezound until the next phone from Google.

Maybe some people need to change their expectations.
I don't donate for future work. Since it's entirely possible that the dev has run into a creative or technical wall, I think it's an unrealistic expectation. But that's just me.
I donate because I appreciate the work the dev has already done. If he takes the donation as an "attaboy" as inspiration for bigger and better things, I consider that a bonus.
Nilsp's ROMs are just about the only ones I've used since I got my Rezound. I appreciate the consistent quality, that he'll answer a question almost anytime of the day or night without snark, and that his ROMs are in a constant state of improvement. I've bought him at least one beer if not two, and if he can get Sense 4 to run properly, I'll buy him a case.
BTW...Nilsp had to be coaxed into accepting donations. Like many of the devs, his satisfaction seems to come in beating the challenges and the simple thanks the users of his product give him. The rest...beer money.
I think another problem with this community is the sense that Verizon has practically orphaned this phone right out of the gate. It was supposed to be a top of the line phone...by technical standards, it's still one of their best phones eight months out of the gate, which is saying something...but they never promoted it, and the dragging of their feet with the ICS update is simply maddening, given that they implied it would be one of the first to get it.
I like this phone. I'm pretty much stuck with it for another year anyway, but I can't see the advantage to jumping at quad cores, especially since few apps can truly take advantage of the extra cores anyhow.

I agree with you, but not completely. You see, I've noticed two ways of inviting for donations.
1. "If you like my work, please consider donating". That I agree with you, a donation is for past work and no expectations should be assumed on either side. You like the current rom and you want to donate, send a few bucks and enjoy the phone. No one ever said there would be a next version.
2. "Let's get 'x' a phone so that he can develop for the Rezound". This is far different than the first one. This, in simple terms, means "If you buy me a phone, I will release something". Maybe just one Rom supported for a little bit, maybe more, but this DOES imply that if the developer gets his/her new phone, that this person will develop something. This is money for future development.
Going with the second method is risky because it does set an expectation to get something back for getting that person a phone. Those expectations are likely to be different between the developer and people who donated. I am convinced that this is why there is so much friction and frustrated people in the Rezound forums. Different people have different expectations and some people are bound to feel like they deserve more.
I learned my lesson though. Next time someone needs the community to help them get a device, I'll politely pass because this concept of donating for future work is at high risk to cause frustrations.

Nobody bought me a phone. I'm not buying someone else one.
I prefer developers who plan to use their phone and their ROMs as daily drivers...because that's how I use my phone. If I'm helping a dev buy a phone, he's only in it for the challenge. Once he thinks he's met that challenge, he's off looking for a new one...while I've still got a year or more to go on my contract. And all of that presumes we're talking about an ethical developer...one that's not using his buddy's phone to do the work and pocketing the donations. ---NOTE---that is not an accusation pointed at anyone, just a hypothetical.
I'm not the government. I don't pay for future development....because more times than not, it doesn't work out to be much of a bargain for the taxpayer.

Now that Bump is open sourced and out there LG will be able to lock it back down if you recieve OTA. I am sure development will not just stop. Lots of good people doing damn good work. jholtom for one who got us CM11 and 12.

But if you don't do the OTA then what's the issue with continuing development on Roms that have been bump'd?

No issues if we continue to have someone working on them.
So did the devs just abandon cm11 and cm12? What happened to where the threads needed to be closed?
That I don't have the answer for? I surely hope not. That would be a shame.
Well it sure would be nice to have even a half a$$ answer. I mean are they on hold, are they abandoned? I've been holding off flashing the zv6 to see if these are going to start up again. Roms can still be bumped now that its public I think. I don't know, I think more people should get pissed at LG, unlock your f$-"#@ bootloader to your glorified camera & hoopy doopy screen. Ranting. Fun always sucks when it comes to a hault

It won't die just might be low key. People may just have to know where to look for stuff. Just may not be on XDA served to us on a platter.
XDA has been sweet, but people get bossy with ETAs and don't know how to use search functions or google. Just expect answers without self education. Block OTAs and keep our devices ours.

I retract my old statement. I wasn't really thinking because Engine has been developing for us since day 1 and I am using his D3 rom for ZV4 right now for the longest I have kept a rom before flashing another. I'll stick around as long as we have at least one developer trying.
Correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm all for open sourced things, but I feel this whole Bump thing will blow up in our faces.
Yes, another group took theCubes work (and his team), stating they were being "Shady" about it, and opened it for all. Usually, this is good news, but you have to ask yourself a couple of things. One, why wasn't it open sourced to begin with? Is it because CodeFire/theCubed was making money? No. They were clearly keeping the process in the dark, but if it wasn't for financial gain, then why? The ONLY logical answer has to be because they knew more about the situation w/ LG than any one else.
I've got to believe, that when someone takes a couple of months to accomplish something no one else could, then holds on to it for whatever reason, I've got to believe it's for the good of the community. With signatures and keys, and with the CM11 & CM12 being closed, I firmly believe we are all screwed now without Codefire and theCubed. This process has taken forever to get, and in a matter of days, another team ruined it, and the future, so what? They could have OFFICIAL CM ROMs? Ridiculous.
I guess my point is, I've been a member for 8+ years on this forum, and I have NEVER seen this much drama, name calling, *****ing, moaning, accusations and ETAs. I don't know if it's new members, old members getting old and cranky, or just society loosing all respect and patience; but this crap needs to stop! I've been on other phone threads, and the LG G3 issues are BY FAR the worst. If you don't have anything nice to say, if you don't have any thing to add, shut it. Show a little respect to devs, take your fragile ego out of it, and lets move forward together. Who cares if something is SHADY, so long as it gets the job done?!? That's why everyone was initially *****ing anyways, because nothing was happening. Now that things are picking up, people NEED to know how it works? Pathetic.
Stepping off the soap box. Clean up this post if needed, but the community needs to clean itself up. Take the initiative, stop stupidity.

Well said!
We all need to band together and get things working for our phone. I'm down to help as much as possible . I'm grateful for what these guys done so far but there could always be more that the end user could do to help. I been trying everything to get bluetooth working but i won't stop trying. So hopefully there's more people out there working on fixes for the cm rom because it felt nice and smooth on the lg g3. It's a shame bt don't work because i use it alot.
I think we screwed the ROM development over... don't see it happening without proper Bump!. Would love to be wrong... but if that's not the case, and development will continue, why was CM threads closed? Why has nothing been addressed or advanced? I think the development for this phone has been severely handicapped.
Lol ... Um just FYI even though the threads closed there's a new build up .. Nothing stopped
