Help from Korea. - Galaxy Note 3 Neo Accessories

I'm a service member in the army and just recently got stationed in korea. Had to get a new phone and, short on time, with no way to research prior, I purchased the note 3 neo smn750k.
So far I like the phone but I got pretty bummed today when I bought an otterbox for the note 3 and it didn't fit.
Doesn't surprise me but I can't seem to find a case now. Does anyone know if they make a rugged case for this phone? I've been googling around a bunch but everything keeps saying note 3 and I'm having a hard time finding anything that specifically mentions my specific phone.
Any help would be appreciated

Bye Bye Venue

I have to say good bye to Venue, I am disappointed because I truly think this is a good phone, but just too many ways to make it fails.
I think the first party to blame is Dell, compare to Samsung, HTC or even LG, Dell did very little to promote or help this phone, not support or update for almost 1 year, for Dell to catch up they should have do much more, regular update is a must thing, and look it's still 2.2.....
Also not promotion means no accessories! Even up to today I still can't find a case for my Venue, no, basically no where will sell even a case and even extra battery is a no where to find, people simply don't know what is a Venue.
So Dell you fail and a lesson for me, I will never again to buy any brand that is not popular, bye bye Venue, Hello Samsung!!
Venue - not for you. Bye bye)
If you dont want your venue anymore you could donate it to me to dev on
Dell's roadmap stated that they only intended to support it for 3 months or so, but we know that gingerbread is coming out (eventually) Why only 3 months is a real question, it's really stupid, but they still sell them after being out nearly a year
They pretty much only sell them though their website so you cant really expect much in the way of accessories for a device with so little visability. They never advertised anything but the s5, and that was only for about a month (and the commericals were kinda stupid anyway)
Updatewise, consider this, there's still quite a few devices even newer then the venue that's still stuck on 2.2, ones that can be considered near-flashship devices. Though many of them are skipping straight to ICS/4.0, which I wouldnt expect for the venue.
Yea venue is not for you, you want to be one of the crowd than one for a crowd.

You did not look very hard for cases. I just bought a Venue and have three cases for it. The leather horizontal one from Dell and two I bought on eBay. I also have Otterbox Commuter and and incipio feather snap-on cases.
I just went through a period of looking at the new phones that were recently released and was underwhelmed. For me the choice of a solid phone that works well without having another two year commitment to AT&T is worth more than the having the newest hardware.
As TheManii mentioned why not donate it to him to dev on if you think it is useless?

I agree. for it was the excellent hardware + the no contract crap with cell phone service. I'm quite happy with my phone. The upgrade will come eventually. And I trust the developers here at xda to come up with a rooting method for 2.3.3 by then =)
Well guys no sure where you are from but at my place (Hong Kong ) we have new phones come out almost every month. As I stated I think this is a good machine but really the support is too little, of course I can go internet to buy a Outterbox but at the same time most of the other same period phones (HTC SAMSUNG etc) case can go as little as US$5 here, plus everyone else is using 2.3.4 or even 2.3.5 and many will promise to go ICS, but where will we see the light of DELL?
Sorry I cannot donate it out, I traded in my Venue for about US$120, which the same period HTC can still go for US$200 here or more, that tells something......
I changed to a new Samsung NOTE, it is amazing, the speed the screen the camera plus more.... I do ask you guys to try it if have a chance, then we will really see how a long way that Dell fall behind, in just less than a year. Do we still want to waste time to DEV Venue?
I just think Dell blew it and feels bad that I think at that time Dell were doing a good job....
If you're in hong kong I'm surprised that you cant find cases for it.
There's plenty of cases on ebay and I'd expect at least a fair amount of them originated from hong kong.
Please don't buy PDAir case - it's sucks)

Questions from a prospective buyer. Opinions wanted.

How difficult is it to root the Note right now? I was thinking about getting one soon but I don't have too much experience rooting devices (I've got a Kindle Fire running CM7 and I rooted my old Samsung Intercept, but those were pretty much rooted with apps or a prebuilt program so I can't take much credit). But I would definitely like to root it. I have gotten used to the freedom already.
Also, what's your overall opinion on the Note? I've heard a lot of good about it but I haven't heard much from developers personally.
I know its size is a prominent aspect but it's also what I like least about it (I haven't held one in my own hands yet though). If I'm into the capabilities of the Note but not its size, should I just go for the Galaxy S II?
Any and all opinions are welcome from Note owners.. I'm trying to make up my mind by the time I get my tax refund back (finally!) so anything you can tell me about your experience with the beast is appreciated.
Thanks,
NoGloww

Rooting is easy, you can use Odin to flash a pre root kernel. Takes all of two minutes. I enjoy this phone a lot. I wish there was a better choice of accessories, i.e. cases, and am afraid to see how gigantic this phone will be with an Otterbox case. Pretty much all good besides that.

Thanks for your input. I've checked out a case for it already on Amazon. Have you seen this: Heavy Duty Hybrid Case - Silicone Case Skin + Hard Protector Cover Case (Black Silicone + Black Bracket) with Foldable Stand for Samsung Galaxy Note/ i9220
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0071AQNVW/ref=cm_sw_r_an_am_ap_am_us?ie=UTF8
And yeah, an Otterbox? Oh man, I don't even want to think about it haha.
Do you have a link or thread for the root with Odin by chance?

Rooting is super easy. Just download odin, and cwm, and flash it to your phone. Then flash a Kendall or custom rom and done. Takes about 15 minutes for me.

I've seen a few, but the build quality isn't where I'd like it. The reiko I hear is sloppy, the kracken is supposed to be good, just looks bad. I've got a speck case and it's embarrassing. 800 phone wrapped in scratched crap. There's a pre root kernel by da g, if all you're looking for is root, that's the way to go. Once you flash that your counter goes up one so it won't matter if you decide you want to go deeper and flash a custom recovery later down the line. Sorry I don't have the link for it, but it's in dev section for this phone and it will have all the appropriate links for drivers, Odin, and kernel.
update, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22684223 there's the pre root kernel for this phone along with drivers etc. that is the reiko case I saw. I read reviews on either that one or that one in black/ blue that said it was a sloppy fit. 7 bucks beats 60 though. According to Otterbox the defender is 6 1/8 * 3 3/4 or somewhere around there. I don't know if that would even got in my pocket anymore

And don't forget the easy overclock...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504920
I picked up two cases from Amazon since they were so cheap:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0071AQNVW
Fits perfectly; a bit too bulky for everyday use
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000H13M2K
Also fits perfectly. Nice and slim, but provides a good grip. It's what I keep on the Note.
$22 for both. Prime got it to me the next morning. Amazon also has 32GB micro SD for under $25 if you are placing an order anyway

my first hands on with the Galaxy Note 2

alright everybody, I just went to the store and played with the Galaxy Note 2. I have to say I am absolutely sold on this device now for sure 100 percent! Flash Player work on it, and everything else is just awesome! words can't even describe how fluid this device really is, anybody who was doubting might as well put that to rest! go to T Mobile or sprint and go play with yourself!
I did that too. But, coming from the GNote, it may or may not be worth the 300 right now. I guess for me, I can wait till it comes down in cost.

Well, I'm getting one but only because I can get it for free. Otherwise, I'd maybe hold on since the GNote I will be getting most of the Note IIs software through updates and also, I may want to wait for the price to drop.
At any rate, I've held a Tmobile Note II but that was about it. The POS Tmobile stores over here do that dumb crap where the vast majority of phones are just on static display, so you can't play with a working model. I don't understand how that's legal. You want me to commit hundreds of dollars towards a device I can't play with so I can wisely make an informed decision??
I already purchased mine....Waiting on the shipment....Hope ya get it...Ill be seeing ya in the note 2 forums
I'm going to go ahead and say that I won't be "playing with myself" at the tmobile store, though the Note 2 will definitely tempt me....

It's really asinine. And it's not just Tmobile... MOST stores in my area that do cellular phones sales, don't have working models, including Best Buy, Target, The Sprint Store, TMobile Store, and Radio Shack. They have static models tethered to a line that you can hold... that's it. What the hell kind of decision am I supposed to make based on that? And the three working phones that Tmo had, were older phones like the S III and some other crap that no one wanted. I was very upset.

Nobody knows for sure.
Even though the hover feature does exist in the Note 1, I believe Samsung has said hover mode is an exclusive feature of the Note 2 because of hardware...so I got a feeling that Samsung won't put some of the Note 2 features in a future update, if there is one anyways.
As for the mini apps and multiview, I also don't see why not. Current apps like Overskreen, aircalc and the pop up video players work fine. I dont see any slowdown on my Note 1(not stock)

every store I have ever been to, that has these static "show" models, will always let you actually try a working one, if you ask someone who works there..I totally understand why they dont have working models on display; people would just stand there endlessly playing with them if they had all working models out there, and, the people waiting behind you to look at the phone might have a long wait just to touch it while you are "checking it out" for 30 minutes....Like I said, just ask an employee to let you try a working one, and they will get one out of the box for you to try...

I may sound like some sort of Liberal, but I would not recommend buying Chinese/Asian "manufacturers" for 2 reasons:
1) Chinese products tend to not work correctly (about 60-70%)
2) Many of these "workers" are people in forced labor or even slaves. I know it sounds crazy but watch a Documentary about counterfeit items and stuff and you'll know what I am talking about

I am a union man but I have to say I don't agree with your "liberal" view.
My experience is that 95% of the stuff I have ordered on eBay from China functions exactly as described. I see many of the same products for sale here except with a 200% markup over the eBay price. I do agree that if it is an item that you need to depend on for work or something that may cause mayhem if it fails, yes there is no substitute for quality. A case, OTG cable, HDMI cable, or a screen protector isn't in that category, for me anyway!
Have you looked at how many holidays they have in China? Most are not oppressed slaves....they work hard to get a leg up.
God made the heavens and the earth in six days......everything else is made in China.....

I bought this a few weeks ago. I got it for 9 bucks then its now 15 but its a really nice high quality durable portfolio type case. Plus comes with a 3 year warranty. So even for 15 bucks (still beats the 30-40 Ive seen them else where) still a good deal. And doesnt add much bulk. Everything still easily accessible except for the sd card slot. Its covered of course.

What is even better when I bought it in May (still had not been made LOL). I got it for $6 the next day was up to $15. I knew I was going to have to wait awhile so I bought a tab 3 silicone cover from bumps and drops (ports really don't match but an exacto knife solved that problem!). I got an email from Amazon that because they were taking so long they were stopping the order. I knew this was going to be a good case so I e-mailed the Supcase people and they said not to worry and the product was almost done!
When the time did come I was right this thing is great. It protects like an otterbox but is quite slim! Have dropped the tablet many times and doing great. But, I guess they rewarded my wait because they sent me second one absolutely free! To me that is great customer service!

I am a union man but I have to say I don't agree with your "liberal" view.

A dying breed.... due largely to exportation of jobs and aggressive right wing union busting.
I'm an inactive member of IBEW and AFTRA (because I no longer work in that industry) and belonged to bargaining units when I was a county employee.
Unfortunately, many people don't recognize that American workers get vacations, paid sick leave and holidays, health insurance and many of the other benefits we enjoy thanks to the contributions of organized labor, even if they don't belong to unions themselves.
The union influence is eroding because spin masters have re-branded union busting as "the right to work," and many people see unions as their enemy, not their best friend in the workplace.
I usually hate bumper stickers, but I smile every time I see one with a union logo and the slogan "United we bargain, divided we beg."

Howdy from the not so new guy

I have went without a phone in favor of the Note 8 and 10.1 tablets the last year but came back home.
Owned Note and Note 2 and I can say this 3 is damn near perfect. A birthday gift from the wife.
Was gonna get the 4 but there is not enough there to warrant the extra cash for me anyway.
If not mentioned before , get the app My stylus Beta. Trust me, you will fall more in love with this phone than ever . It is that good an app.
Anyway, good to be back and I will see you peoples around.
Oh, and if you have any questions I will do my best to help no matter what. I have screwed with phones since my Hero rooting days.
