[Q] What's the best current ROM/Configuration for our tab? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, our tablet is becoming old. Currently I had installed the Nameless ROM and I love it, but the tablet is still a little laggy and more than a little when you open a few apps... Do you think that the ROMs based on Honeycomb could run smoother in our devices?
I tried to set up an 1GB swap partition but really don't feel any difference...
So, I think it could be a good idea to post if you wise guys know any tweaks or configurations to make our tablets more efficient devices
Thanks in advance

Hello !
In january 2014 I loved the port made by SGT7, JB 4.3.1/Cyano10.2, very smooth, no laggy but JB...:cyclops:
In july 2014 I decided to try Nameless, the only that release every night an updated rom, and keep alive everyday tab 10.1 with KK444... but in my own, too laggy also overclocked and youtube problems...
In september 2014 I tried OMNI Homemade by AAccount and... damn! I really loved it, smooth, human battery drain, no youtube problems, for now I keep the 20/09 3G release with installed stock browser.apk from Nameless...
Honeycomb rom don't run smooter and too outdated...

Thank you frank! I'll try the omni homemade one and I'll tell you [emoji6]

Please post questions in the Q & A section. You can post in my Q&A, Root, Stock rom thread or start a new thread for yoir question.
This keeps our development areas clean.
Thanks, Gil81

How did it go? I had the same experience with Nameless. Nice ROM, but laggy. I'm sure the older hardware is the issue.
Have you found any tweaks to help?

It was really nice and fast. But I'd sold it and change it for an iPad Air 2 [emoji5]️

My condolences! I had an iPod and they get outdated so quick and the apps no longer work because they don't support older OSes. That's the great thing about XDA. The apps last longer and you can usually root your device and upgrade it if need be to keep up more than with an iOS device.
Thanks for the update!

iPad Air 2 was announced two weeks ago. It will far outlast the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

I very seriously doubt that.

yuck. Not having luck.

Just went with CM11 all seems good except msps 9.1.2. Using maps 8.1.2 with no issue though.

I had the nameless rom installed as well. Yesterday i installed lollipop and it actually seems to be running a little quicker!

[Q] 2 questions for the Galaxy S II

Hi, i have two questions for you, because i don't know what to do...
- the first one : Android 4.0 will be released for this phone ?
- the second one : is it possible to have an official version of Android gingerbread without Touchwiz for the galaxy S II ? ( i don't very like Touchwiz )
I ask you this questions because i don't know if it's better to wait the nexus prime, or to buy this phone... ( sorry for my english, i'm not very good )
Thank you !
1. Yes, probably
2. CM7 is already available, think of it as souped-up AOSP
If you can wait then go for the nexus prime, but there'll always be something better around the corner and the SGS2 is the best out there for the meanwhile
Ill probably be getting the samsung g note but I wonder will the nexus prime have a removable sd card.
thank you for your answers ! i think i will buy the galaxy ! but one last question : the CyanogenMod roms aren't stable yet ?

They're stable enough, as most users would agree, but there are other AOSP ROMs out there that are pure Android, without any CM stuff. It depends what you want, obviously, but if you're after pure Android (as on a Nexus, for example) then that's available and working very well.

Did you ever use and Android based phone before? Install different launcher and get rid of TW. Root your phone and delete samsung based apps with Root Uninstaller. That's it
if you don't like touchwiz you don't need to switch the rom, just search the market for a launcher that suits your liking and customize it to your preference.
i dont think touchwiz sucks that bad. but i wanted to have more control over how the app drawer sorts apps, so i downloaded go launcher ex (completely free) and i got what i want.

+1 I love TouchWiz 4.0. It's fast, smooth and looks awesome. In addition, I love using some of the widgets that are TouchWiz only. Also if you are a TouchWiz user, you can download an app called Appzorter to alphabetize your app drawer (only works on root though). I've tried other launchers and none of them seem to be as fluid as Touchwiz is.
personnaly, i think touchwiz is not very beautiful, the galaxy seems to be an old phone with that. i prefer the style of android, but it's my opinion.
Sounds like your comparing touchwiz 4 to touchwiz 3 in the galaxy i9000.
Touchwiz 4 is silky smooth compared to any other launcher and adds great functionality compared to an standard android device.

I'm a fan of pure Android too, but it obviously doesn't hurt to try all the alternatives out there. As I said ealier I use MIUI, but it's very much NOT pure Android, although built on an AOSP ROM. CM is also built from the ground up, and that's very popular. Your best bet is to just forget what you already know and try what's out there, because there are some great ROMs available. Just bear in mind that a lot of them are simply tweaked Samsung ROMs, and nothing "new" (no disrespect meant to the developers - purely an observation).
I hated the look of MIUI before I tried it because it looked like someone just wanted Android to look like the iPhone, but trying it really showed me how wrong it was. I just guess it's the same with all ROMs. Don't take anyone's word for it - try it for yourself.

[Q] Some advice please!

Hi everyone!
I' m about to buy a used atrix 4g and I want some advice.
Should I buy this phone or is it too old and I shall look something else (like a sony xperia sole)?
Are there any good Jelly Bean roms to flash?
What about the user experience? Is it good at playing games and multitasking?
Please give me some info about this phone!!
Thanks in advance,
Petros.
It's stuck on GB and current JB or ICS roms are marginal.
I would say it depends on what price you're getting it for and how badly you need/want ICS or JB
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app
First of all, thank you for your reply!
I don't want to use GB, I want a good JB rom to flash. Is there any?
I am going to buy it at about 120 euros, while xperia sole costs at least 200 euros. Both dual core with a good GPU.
What do you mean "marginal"? They are not good? Not fast/stable? What about battery drain?
A 100% stable ICS/JB ROM for the Atrix does not exist. If you want decent stability for day-to-day usage, you are stuck with GB. (Personally, I wouldn't call it "stuck" since GB is working exceptionally well for me and I have no desire to switch anytime soon.) In fact, the ICS/JB on the Atrix situation is far more complicated than you probably think.
You might want to go over a few threads over at the dev section to get an idea.
Just fast and stable with working wifi camera and bt.
So you suggest me to look another device for running ICS/JB??
If running ICS/JB is really that important to you, then yes.
On current ICS/JB builds the wifi works, the bluetooth mostly works (depends on what you want to do with it), and the camera is kinda glitchy.
But are these roms smooth at working and fast?
It is pitty to see such a good device not having nice ics roms! A dual-core device with 1gb ram should be having fun running ics or jb..

Yes, for the most part. It really depends on what you do, and also who you ask.
I'm still on GB (I feel perfectly comfortable on it), so I cannot pass my own judgement or impressions.

I don't think there is a single person here who would disagree, but try telling Motorola that...
The atrix is a great phone, good hardware, only have a problem that is no oficial ICS or JB,but for me a CM 7 is great,no lags and very stable.
I'm ahardcore gamer and at the moment all the games run smooth,no lags. I already played dead triger, riptide GP,GTA III,shadows guns and other ''BIG'' games.

No i don't want to get another phone to run cm7. I used to have a nexus one about a year ago and it was running jb 4.1.1 flawlessly. so i don't want to go to gb. now i use an xperia x10 running 4.0.4 with the cam corder not working, and in general it is not very smooth.
so as you understand i don't want to buy a dual core phone to use gb. i am confused

Then the answer is simple - don't get the Atrix.
It might be a good option in some time, but not right now.
i understand.. i will try to find some more info and then decide.
thanks man for your interest
as a matter of fact i was wondering the same thing whether i should change from my atrix or just stick with it. I love my atrix. very good phone. i tried several different roms and i am running CM10 by emerson pinter now. it has been the best rom yet that i have found and am going to stick with this for a while until they come out with something new or an official JB rom. i have had no lag whatsoever and has not crashed not one time....knocking on wood now. the gaming is still great with the kernel for overclocking to 1300Mhz. And to beat all it was relatively easy...lol only problem is the camcorder doesnt work and there may be something else but i haven't found it yet. just read and read some more before you decide. hope this helps a little

Galaxy Alpha vs. A5 longtime support from dev´s

Hi there,
i am about to buy a new phone sooner or later.
My old SGS III (I9300) is still running quite fine (thx to the dev´s in here), but after 2,5 years i looks kinda awfull by now because of the bad build quality (cheap plastic crap) of the body.
So the next should have better build quality = metal frame if pos.
So i figured out 2-3 possible phones:
Samsung Galaxy Alpha or Samsung Galaxy A5 (wont be released in the US/Canada as far as i know)
As an alternative:
Phicomm Passion
The most important point for me is the longtime community support from CM,Omni, etc. This tbh is the only reason i still use and can use my quite old S3. And i can´t even tell you how much i hate Touchwiz and crap UI´s like this.
Might it be easier to get a good working CM for the A5 because it will have a Snapdragon 400 or 410. I often read about Samsungs Exynos making it hard to develop for.
So do you got any thoughts what device will have the better community support? Yeah crappy question i know, just wanna hear your thoughts
greetings from germany

A5 is midranger sd410 , don't go for it .
U can't compare Alpha with A5 , go for Alpha / iphone 5s/i6 / Wait for S6 / htc M9

Yeah i know the the Alpha has a stronger SoC, and is intended to be a flagship device. But tbh as long as the system runs smooth i dont give a damn at antutu scores and dont even play any games.
But i think the best precondition for a good longtime support from the community is a high popularity and alot of sold devices. Atleast i think thats the reason the SGS3 for example, is still up to date.
I dont really care about the support from the producers like Samsung, HTC, LG etc. They all do quite a bad job at holding their devices up to date. (Sony might be a exception) The community does this job alot better in my eyes.
As far as i can see it the Galaxy Alpha didnt sell this great and the active dev´s and roms are quite rare (sadly).

For long and good community support, this device is not it for various reasons example high price, battery performance, uncommon and exynos chipset.

I run a CM developer build and my battery lasts for 2-4 days. I never had a device with such good battery life. The exynos chipset is great, cause the modem is separated from the main system. They don't share any memory. So the modem can't access the android filesystem.
same hire,2-4 days moderate use
our phone is optimised as iphones
normaly coz we dont have every week to flash custom roms hehehe
rorian & leripe are quite right,
if you check Alpha's sub forum u will notice that is already half dead
that's sad cause Alpha is a truly strong device, will an excellent design.
It has its flaws -as all devices have-, but that's expected.
The phone went live on the market with a high price, because was directly compared with S5,
so customers expected the price to be lower than s5.
The competition was already high in this range with cheaper models.
Then finally sammie put the tombstone on the device by announcing the end of production.
The device is good , im happy to own it, and i would buy it again for sure, but it hurts when im
clicking in xda and see no interesting from the community, i blame 101% samsung for this, EPIC marketing/scheduling fail.
Sorry if my englisch isn't that good.
I'll get my Alpha tomorrow. I think the forum is quite dead at the moment because everyone is waiting for the release of the cyanogan mod custom rom. I hope that with the release of CM sooner or later (maybe with lollipop) more and more different custom roms will be made for our device.

You hate it, i love it, and the other way around. Just personal preferences. What i hate about Samsuns is just their update politics. They even got probs keeping their flagships up to date for longer than 1 year and even if they do, the updates are delayed for months.

Are they even working on an official cyanogemod 12 for alpha or is there any dev in here working on an unofficial port yet? If yes it would be great news and it would be a big argument to buy it over the A5.

Here's Antutu Benchmark for Galaxy A5
I've just come from iPhone 6 then note 4 and then decided I wanted a smaller device but android so I purchased the alpha after looking into buying the a5 the alpha is a better device by far. Is the Nexus 10 still a worthwhile tablet?

The Nexus 10 was the first 10" tablet I had and it was the most enjoyable tablet I had. Haptic feedback, camera flash, two decent sounding speakers, and the screen size were all pretty nice bonuses.
I'm looking to buy another tablet in the future. Ideally, I want 10" or larger, and the ability to use custom ROMs (does the N10 still have official Cyanogenmod support?) or even better, native Linux. The Nexus 10 seems pretty affordable nowadays, and as long as I can throw a clean ROM onto it (AOSP or CM), I'd be pretty good to go.
So, would a Nexus 10 be a good investment nowadays, or is there another tablet that would be a better choice?

I bought mine in Dec. of 2012 and still use it every day. I've tried a lot of ROMs in the last 3 years, but I keep coming back to the rooted stock ROM (link below). It 's still getting regular security updates and just seems to run the best. I find no reason to go out and buy anything newer, this tab just keeps going and going. I say Go For It!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/development/rom-21-11-2014-t2948203
I think N10 is still a good tablet (I'm writing this on mine), especially if you don't intend to run modern games on it. For browsing , youtube and occasional simple productivity tasks - it's just great. Mine is 2 years old now and I think I'll keep it for another year at least. Will try putting marshmellow on it though, I'm just curious like that
As for alternatives, I'd say Sony xperia Z4 tablet is by far the best tablet out there right now. A friend got it recently and it's just great, really. Light, thin, great display (same resolution as N10) and battery life. And it has microsd slot. And you can even put AOSP on it, becase Sony provides binaries. Check it out, but it's probably like twice the price of N10.
My Nexus 10 is two years old and I still love it, although it's starting to chug a little more when switching between apps. I don't know that I would buy one today unless it's brand new (probably hard to find these days) and you got a decent deal on it.
I like my wife's Nexus 9, particularly the aspect ratio. I just wish it had that extra inch of screen space.
My N10 runs fast and smooth. I use stock rooted rom. It runs best on the stock rom.
I bought mine two months ago used. Running stock 5.1.1 and it's a bit slow but for what I use which is solely for media consumption it's great. Nice screen real estate and loud speakers.
Yes! I bought mine used aswell , and Running Marshmallow on it very well, very smooth and fast. Nothing to complaint.
I've had mine for a number of years now. Overall I've been pleased with it until recently. I'm having Wifi issues that drive me crazy. Also, it appears there's a major problem with YouTube that causes the tablet to reboot after only a few seconds of video. I get the feeling the device is just not getting the love from the Google developers that it needs.
My parents own one and have the known " yellow smudge" on the display. I would consider a different tablet.

Have you tried clearing the YouTube app cache? This seems to work for me (at least for a good while).

Hi, im using OmniRom from scanno, you can find it here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/orig-development/rom-t3045066)
There are nice differences yes, I find it smoother and with also better battery life. It works very good in every task I do. Although, I find stock 5.1.1 pretty good also but sometimes I had some crashes on youtube and slowing down performance when using it. If you have more specific questions I would be glad to answer if I can. You should try the ROM !!!

In last stock 5.1.1 update I tried to watch 1440p on youtube and my nexus got freezed and rebooted every time I played that resolution. BUT then I flashed OmniRom 6.0.1 and now im able to play 1440p youtube vídeos without trouble!!! The difference onthis display is exquicite. You can find omni ROM here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/orig-development/rom-t3045066
I hope this can save your nexus.

I aked that same question in cyanogenmod forums and they answered me they still support nexus 10 devices as the nightlies are still going out, so yes hehe this tablet is still getting support from cyanogen and also from developpers you can find here on xda forums.

Oh ! well if it isnt a trouble for you I recomend you continue using 5.1.1 , its a very good ROM on performance. But if you wish to try on watching 1440p youtube videos I would recomend you to try OmniRom 6.0.1 version! So you still get Omni features and stability and also with Marshmallow features and battery managment.

There is also a new AICP build with Marshmallow 6.0.1 running well:

So that you have other options to enjoy
Got mine as a Christmas gift from my wife three years ago. I still use it pretty regularly. The only issue I have is the battery isn't what it used to be (to be expected after 3 years).
Interestingly enough, I still use an AOKP PUB build (Android 4.3, I think - don't have it in front of me) because it was one of the last builds with the ability to have a true tablet UI (back/home/recent buttons on bottom left, status bar/notifications, etc. on bottom right).
I'll probably keep it until it's completely dead. But I'm not sure I have a real need for a tablet. If I'm ever in the market for something else, I'll almost certainly buy a Surface or some other laptop/tablet hybrid.
When I bought my N10 back in early 2013 I thought I wouldn't use it much.. The only thing I regret is getting the 16GB version. I don't think my Note 2 - launched approximately the same time - has been keeping the momentum equally good and it has been upgraded to a N4. But the N10 is aging like wine and I'm impressed to see mine still going after will these years. Would I get a "new" one today? Probably not. But I don't feel a need to upgrade either.
Also as rodeojones writes above.. Do I REALLY need a tablet? Probably not. My N4 is big enough when I'm not at home and when I'm home I usually use my desktop computer. But AICP 11 is working very well...

Fatest ROM / Need opinions!

Hello there.
I have an old Galaxy S3 laying around for almost 2 years and i would love to give it some use.
Since my mother is not into Android phones yet, i would love to tune my S3 and let her get used to it.
So my question is:
What is the best performance rom? (old android, or new, doesn't matter..phone just needs to fly!)
What is the best stable rom with newest android versions?
And between these 2, which one would you prefer? Performance or new Android?
Best regards.
Thank you!
Funny thing, I also had my SGS3 somewhere on the bottom of the shelf for 2-3 years and forgot about it.
Than my Mom wanted a touchscreen phone so I gave it to her to try but she didn't like it... So I bought a new battery and use it by myself now again, great phone still
As for your question - SmartDroid Simple v9.9 (Samsung Touchwiz 4.3 cleaned-up and optimized) - best battery and blazing fast, my favourite, or...
One of older SlimKat's builds (Jellybean or even KitKat), also fast but little bit worse battery.
I also was trying some newer Nougat Roms (CM's, Lineages), but they don't run as good for me as older Androids on SGS3.
For your mom it definitely gonna be SmartDroid Simple 9.9.
