I Need help with my recently rooted SG SII - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So here is the story:
My phone was running slow and the battery would drain out like crazy, so I read through a few forums here and there and decided I would FACTORY RESET my phone. Now might I mention, my phone was previously rooted by using a method from galaxyroots2 ( I picked the one for GT-I9100 ). I had ROOTED IT TWICE before. Both times work flawlessly. Now this time, for some very odd reason, my phone is stuck on a Screen which displays "Samsung GALAXY S II GT-I9100" with a little YELLOW TRIANGLE at the bottom. I pulled out the battery a few times but to no avail. Now I Am able to access DOWNLOAD MODE, but I cannot access the other mode where you hold the VOL button up rather than down. I'm kinda out of ideas, I figured this would take me 5 minutes like the last time. The KERNEL is a JEEBOO Kernel, I used Odin v1.85. I haven't performed any updates since it has been rooted.
NOW MY QUESTION IS : HOW CAN I GET PAST THE SCREEN WITH THE YELLOW TRIANGLE? and please dumb down things as much as possible. I'm not the greatest when it comes to these sort of things.

SO now I am currently trying to troubleshoot using a little something I found on cnet, with "How to go back to a stock Android ROM on Samsung Galaxy S2" as a title. I have to download the official firmware first, which will take a bit of time. Update in a few hours.

Solved the problem. Here is what I did
1. Google search "android firmwares" and go to the first link ("androidfirmwares"-dot-net)
2. Go under the Galaxy S2 tab and select Firmwares. Choose the most recent one or the one that works with yours (Mine was MS4)
3. Unzip the .tar file in the compressed file you downloaded
4.On your phone, hold the Vol button down with the home button and the power button simultaneously to open dowload mode
5. Goto Odin and click on the PDA button. Select the .tar file you just downloaded
6. Press Start
7. ???
8. Profit

I think u flashed something wrong, u said u have a gt-i9100 but I think jeboo kernel is for another galaxy s2 model. So that should be the reason why it didn't boot.
Well but now u found solution so never mind
Next time be sure to flash the right things, in worst case u can be bricked without any way to get back to life

why on earth the at&t Lineup of SGS family always getting the same
problem over and over again?
i used to have an sammy's captivate and the SOD problem was very annoying!
a year ago i was intended to change cappy for his bigger brother the infuse 4g
but i didn't because more SOD problems.
is this a curse or someone in the at&t lineup is jerking all over the
hardware? ?!
does the I777 having this problem too?

Never had a issue on a stock device ever.....once you root, replace kernels, and leaked roms.....well... like my 6 year old daughter says to me....."you get what you get, and you don't get upset".

I've never had an SoD of my phone unless I was messing around with something I shouldn't have in the kernel source code. (And no kernels along those lines ever made it to the public...)
So your saying that i should'v be Paranoid about the phone?
By the way is there any chance to put LTR Support in a rom?
Thats about it..
Many thankes!

With the LoC count where it is and the insane number of logical branches... I'm sure there's a few edge cases that still will result in it. It's unavoidable (and 100% understandable).

I never had SoDs with my Infuse either, except for the early days when I was unaware of the 800 MHz suspend limitation, or when I was too aggressive with undervolting.
SetCPU with a screen off profile that has a limit of less than 800 MHz = almost guaranteed SoD on unpatched kernels. But anyone who is rooted running SetCPU can install a patched kernel to fix that. The 800 MHz suspend limit issue doesn't affect anyone with a stock device.
I do recall that something about Widget Locker somehow causes SoDs (most likely because it mucks around with the lockscreen code), but again - that's not an issue with a stock phone.
i had SoD on stock firmware and i get it about 3 times a week on CM7.1 as well. it's the most frustrating thing about this phone. and that is saying something
Excuse my ignorance but what is SoD

It's Sleep of Death.
Meaning when you put the phone into sleep, it actually goes into coma .
You have to spank it a few times before it wakes up.
I had an AT&T GS1 that had major SoD issues. It's the most annoying thing ever.
Now my GS2 just has battery issues, where the Android system takes up to 80% of the phone's battery life sometimes.

Android System or Android OS? The latter is a known issue with the UCKK6 update.
Different SoC no prob. Check i9100 forums. Almost same phone and no problems with SoD

Reinstall using Kies Firmware Upgrade And Initialization
I did the following suggested by someone at At&T forum. It seems working. I am posting detailed steps here for anyone who is interested,
Please backup everything on your phone memory before you attempt this. This will wipe out your phone completely.
1. Open Samsung Kies as Administrator
2. Goto Tools -> Firmware upgrade and initialization
3. Enter the model name SGH-I777 (in all upper case letters)
4. Enter the Serial Number of your phone. This can be found under the batter.
5. Click OK. Then you need to accept the warning and it will tell you which firmware it is going to flash onto your phone. It will be 4.0.4. Accept that as well.
5. It will download the necessary files. At this point you can shut down the phone and remove the battery and re-insert the battery.
6. The while pressing the volume Up and Down keys simultaneously (Not the power button) plug the USB cable. Your phone should boot into download mode. It will display a message Downloading..... on the screen.
7. Start Upgrade button on the Kies upgrade screen should now be activated. If not, you may need to reinstall the USB drivers for i777 and may need to reinstall Kies.
8. Once you hit Start Upgrade button, it will start download the proper firmware from the web and then start sending it to the phone. You will see a progress bar in the phone as well. Sometimes it could give you an error similar to "DLL load failure..." If that happened, try change the Compatibility mode of Samsung Kies to Windows Vista SP2 and run in Administrator mode. This can be done by right clicking on Kies icon and selecting Properties --> Compatibility tab.
9. Once the Kies finish transferring the firmware to the phone, the phone will start installing it and once finished, it will reboot.
10. I also factory reset the phone after the upgrade by booting into stock recovery console. You can shut down the phone, press Volume UP + DOWN together and press power button without releasing the volume keys. Then select Factory Wipe and hit Power button.
11. I disabled all the AT&T bloatware anyway because I don't like them and use them anyway. I don't know that was the case because it didn't help me earlier.
Now my phone works as it used to be. 4.0.4 seems to have a good battery life even with WiFi switched on all the time. Earlier if I keep WiFi on for few hours it completely drains my battery. I am happy with my phone again.
Thanks scot070 at AT&T forum for the wonderful tip.

Way to go, necroposter. Raised this one from the dead with a post that has little, if anything, to do with SoDs. Genius!

[Q] Ace doesn't boot - download mode might not work right!?

Hi,
###Feel free to skip this part:[For starters, i want to give a very brief introduction of myself, as a new member of this board. I'm a soon to be language teacher in Germany. I often choose Usernames with "Hank" in it, as i used to be a Turbonegro Fan in my Teens and still like'em. I got to know this forum from former Problems with my old phone, my Motorola MS. I know signed up due to problems my girlfriend has with her phone, i wasn't able to find solutions without asking som questions]#####
last night, my batterie died, so i charged it and then thought of turning on my Ace, nothing bad in mind...
But then it just stuck when the "Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830" Screen appeared.
So i started researching some Android/Samsung Forums and the first thing i tried is to "reset" it by pushing "Home + Power" Buttons simultaneously. Didn't work. Same Screen as mentioned above appears and stays.
The next thing i found was "Vol. Down + Home + Power" - now i got a screen that says "Downloading..." in little yellow letters. I was happy first but unfortunately nothing happend after that.
It's a new phone, so there's still waranty and i might have to send it to Samsung. Maybe someone here knows a method i might try where i wont lose the waranty.
But either way i'm curios how this might have happened!? I didn't try any flashing or modding, because it's my girlfriends phone and she's more than satisfied with it's functions!?
try to go to recovery and wipe everything
or flash cwm recovery and flash roms
or go to download mode the downloading signs
and use odin to flash stock firmware
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
thanks for your quick answer....
there's no way i can enter recovery mode. It's Power + Home for several seconds, isn't it?
Flashing sth leads to loss of warranty, right? I think that's too risky due to my knowledge...
Do you have an idea hwo this could have happened?
Obviously he on stock rom with stock kernel, maybe even no root
So I'm gonna suggest a simplest way.
Boot into recovery (hold home+power button simultaneously) and when it do go into recovery, just do reset to factory. I can't remember correctly what the exact menu because only got experience with stock recovery for a hour or so
Btw navigate up/down via volume up/down button and make selection with home button. Good luck

But Download Mode works for you . (Home + Power + Vol Down)
You're going to have to flash a firmware via ODIN .
Follow my newbie guide on how to flash something via ODIN .
Be sure to download a full package ROM
Herpderp Defy.
So do u still remember what android version and from what region the stock rom is? As u stated that u still can access download mode, just download the same firmware from sammobiles.com and flash it via Odin.

...but i've seen two different pic's that show DL-Mode. One looks like what i see on my phone: Black screen, yellow letters saying "Downloading....".
The other one is a black screen with white letters saying "MDL something something" this screen, i don't get on my phone!?
Is the first screen fine or is do i have to get to the second one!? (Because i don't)
Will the warranty get lost, when i do that?

First one is correct
Herpderp Defy.
From what country and operator is your phone?
So we can suggest a rom for you to flash!
If you do this yor warranty will not be voided! (hopefully :b)
I wouldn't worry about the warranty too much.
It all sounds scary but when you've done it a couple of times you'll notice It's not so big of a thing.
Just always take your time and read up on things before you start doing stuff.

[Q] SGS2 after firmware update phone got "locked"

Hi everyone,
Please excuse my English and my knowledge about all this subject is so limited.
Today I connected my phone to Kies and was offered firmware update automatically. So i went for it (believe that it will be only for good) and the phone is now in some sort of freeze mode. It only starts up to "S Samsung galaxy S II" screen and that's it. Completely non responsive. If i try to turn it off it restart itself to that point again.
Unfortunately i can not provide any details of my phone as i cant get access to it right now. i remember that it was on gingerbread and firmware update was offering icecreamsandwich. its Galaxy S2 i9100
i don't know if its related but I'll mention it. This morning i followed instruction (i found on this forum) how to root my phone. Although i am not sure, everything went smooth and according to explanation. If was working fine until this firmware upgrade. Once again i don't know if this contributed to fail or not. Kernel i needed for my model was GT-I9100_BVKE2.
I would appreciate any help how to go back to square one (if possible) and make it work.
Thank You
OK so if you updated it to 4.0.3 and Not 4.0.4, then enter stock recovery (power, volume down, home button) and do a factory reset. Then reboot.
Edit: I mean volume up button

Thank you for your reply - how do i perform factory reset? From phone? I got to "android Downloading" screen (power, volume down, home button) and what then? Do I need to use Kies ...?
Thx
Recovery is Vol up+home+power. You move through options with volume keys and select with power or home button.

I got it from youtube.
NOPE - it wont allow me to go factory reset menu. Only goes back to "S samsung galaxy sII screen".
Does this mean what i think it means?
If youve lost stock recovery then all you can do is go to download mode and flash a 4.0.3 .tar file you download for your region from sammobile.
Then you can root the phone.
Thank you everyone for your inputs.
I went to local store and sort it out for £10. I wish i had more time to play with it but to be honest with you i lost my nerves at some point.

Rooted i9300 no screen problem

Hi all,
Have a really bad problem, just rooted a galaxy s 3 for a friend, i've rooted many, he was on 4.1.1 i used the toolkit as i've used it before.
The root process worked well and now the phone boots up, makes a sound and then doesn't show anything on the screen.
Now nothing comes on the screen at all although it does make a boot sound (the samsung logo noise) the only thing i get on the screen is the galaxy s III logo and a small red exclamation mark up the top left.
Really would like to get this back on.
My friend bought it from singapore, although it is a i9300.
I can get to recovery and i can also get to download mode.
Any ideas?
If it is a I9300 then factory reset from recovery or flash a stock rom .

Actually sorted this now, I used the older toolkit and it caused this issue. Wiping it wouldn't have helped.
Used the new toolkit and all is well again.

I'm suffering the exact same problem (likely for the same reason - used older version, although possibly just because I messed up on my own).
@dladz, or anyone else who might be able to help, could you please give me a pointer on where to go after downloading the newer toolkit. I have a vague idea but I imagine it would be better to ask at this stage before I really mess it up myself.
If anyone could help you'd be a life saver
---------------------
Edit: After prodding around and "fixing" it I thought I'd leave this information for other noobs so they don't ask the same question/harass dladz like myself.
Simply boot up holding the vol down and home button, connect via USB and open Odin.
From there make sure that only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked.
Click PDA and select C:\Samsung Galaxy S3 ToolKit\root\GT-I9300\boot-stock-ella-GTI9300.tar (From the toolkit - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488)
Hit start and wait for the square on the top left to turn green and say pass. The device should reboot and be work again. As I'm a retard you may decide not to follow these instructions for your own safety and the safety of your device, however it worked for me.
Apologies for being a pain in the arse, I'll go back to lurking quietly and I'll try not to break anything else.

First, don't give up and don't throw your $500 phone away.
Seeing the I9100 logo and splash screen with yellow triangle is expected behavior, caused by flashing a modified kernel, which is what you did to root.
As already suggested, the first thing to try is to enter recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset. You enter recovery by holding all three buttons, volume + & - and power down continuously. If this doesn't work, there's more wrong than just flashing the zedomax I777 modified kernel.
Don't hold your breath expecting zedomax to help. He has dozens of websites like gs2r, and is spread quite thin trying to make money from them. He doesn't appear to be at all focused on helping other people, just himself.

I have almost the same problem. I have ATT Samsung Galaxy SII with ICS4.03. Tried to root it. Everything was going as is written in "Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-I777 (AT&T): Root and ClockworkMod Recovery" by Ken East on Apr 20, 2012: I saw a PASS message in Odin3 so the process was successful? What I see on display now is Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 and yellow triangle with exclamation sign. I was seeing it for more than hour: I am a patient man.
What I tried after were
1. Turned phone off and then turned it on to reboot. Nothing new: Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 and yellow triangle with exclamation sign. BTW I could not even switch the phone off by pushing the Power button.
2. Took off battery and inserted it back to reboot. Nothing new: Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 and yellow triangle with exclamation sign.
3. Pushed those three buttons- volume up, down and power to find out some options. Seems to me it was Recovery mode. CWM- based recovery v.5.0.2.3 was written on display. I chose reboot system and was watching a beautiful grey hat with orange arrow under it for half an hour. I tried other options in the menu with the same hat as a result first but then I saw new screen with new options.
So what must I do now to make my phone to work again? I understood that zedomax do not usually help.

Quite simply your issue is that you were using kernel built for gingerbread and not ICS, therefore it wouldn't boot.
Selecting an item in that version is done with the home button as indicated in the stickies.
Flash a new kernel that is compatible with ICS and all these issues go away and you can boot it up.

Strange for me but after I've read the article-instruction of rooting two more times just now I did not see any indication that the kernel is for gingerbread and not ICS. How could I wait such an evil? And I've read already a lot of messages to forums but you are the first to suggest such dishonor. BTW in the instruction was written the following:
3.Put your phone in Download Mode by holding down the Volume Down key, Volume Up key, and the Power buttons at the same time. Once you see “Warning” displayed on the screen, press the Volume Up key.
That was the way I used.
Do you see any possibility to return the phone to life? It is not quite simply, as you wrote, to my pity. It is because the phone does not boot up and computer does not see it. How can I flash another kernel in such conditions?

hello everyone, i hope someone can help. i have the t mobile locked s2 (with gingerbread) with simple mobile as my carrier. to get rid of the tmobile apps i'm told the phone has to be rooted. i know nothing about rooting so in searching i found oneclickroot.com. it sounds as if that is easy for me since i'm not a techie. can someone tell me if this site is recommended and if i use it what would be the other steps needed to get rid of the tmobile apps and upgrade from 'gingerbread'....i really hope someone can help so thanks for the support in advance.

You should try your own device's forums. The T-Mobile gs2 is literally nothing like the i777
