[Q] Patched files - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good morning guys, as the tittle says, I got some questions about patched files. I own a S3 (i9300) but I had the problem of "not registered in network" when I updated to 4.3 (It was fine at 4.1.2) so I fixed this using these files:
My questions are:
- Do I really have to patch those files everytime I wanna try any custom rom? (Only on roms based 4.4.4 I don't have to patch them and btw, I tried just patching the modem file and it fixed the network problem, I didn't have to use the kernel one)
- I don't know If installing stock kernels will fix the problem.
- Is there any other way to have network working fine?

You will just have to try a rom and see. Maybe sometimes yes maybe sometimes no.
If you don't want to do this all the time go get the imei repaired properly.

What do you mean with "repaired properly"? I was talking about customs and stock. It always happen, that's why I uploaded the files.

You require those files because you or someone else has "upset" your efs, causing either or both of you imei or serial number to go to a generic one causng you to lose calling etc.
If you got the imei and serial number fixed properly at a service center this would no longer be necessary.

No you are not, you can either continue to flash the files after each rom flash like you have been which honestly doesn't take long to simply flash it again or choose option b which is to get it repaired by samsung which will cost $.
Personally if the patched files are working fine I would stick to them.

Stuck at boot animation + more info inside

Hello, so I ran out of battery on my way home, when I got home I plugged the phone and went to sleep. Today when I woke up, I turned on the device, but it got stuck @ galaxy s3 boot animation, the animation you get before your ROM's boot animation kicks in, so I went to recovery and tried to recover one of my recoveries. it didn't help. I did a factory reset, it still was the same, stuck on galaxys3 boot animation. So I decided to flash stock samsung rom using ODIN. But now I'm stuck at the samsungs stock ROM boot animation, I tried factory reset couple of times but it didn't help.
Any idea what might be the issue, I have flashed this rom
Edit: Also the line "E: failed to mount /efs" is something to worry about when you boot into recovery?
So flashing via Odin works w/o errors?

Yeah, when i flashed using odin, I didn't encounter any error, more one thing to mention, when I boot to recover I get
E: failed to mount /efs
Is that something to have concern about?
oh yes. do you have an efs backup? that's the first thing you should do before flashing anything. if yes, restore it. if not, send it to service

Yes you will find that the vendor or Samsung refuse warranty .
Your option is to fight that as not relevant to your problem .

You are kidding me, so basically if I didn't root my device, vendor/samsung wouldn't had a choice but to replace my device, but because of I did root my device, vendor/samsung will refuse to replace my device, am I correct?
Is there any other way to unbrick my device?

you are correct, in the EU you still can get lucky due to some regulations and you have to show that the root did not cause the problem, outside the EU I am not sure. The restriction of the internals of every device is not for nothing in place don't you think so? Otherwise manufacturers would get hundreds of complains because someone messed up something...

Hey, I just came back from my vendor, they say they can't fix it. Can I some how restore EFS? I have the Phones IMIE/S/N written, on the back of the phone, can I make a new efs folder/files? using this DATA?
Thank you!
EDIT: If I'll have to ship to samsung, do I have to talk with them first? or just find their ARMA address and ship there?

If you do not have an EFS backup I guess it will be difficult to restore. Only solution then will be to send it in for service if I am not wrong.

You are correct, it would be difficult to restore, or there is another option, make my cellphone not boot at all, so the vendor won't be able to check flash counter.. in that case the vendor won't have a choice but to replace the device.. got any suggestion how to brick your device so it won't boot at all? disconnect the cable while flashing?

that would be warranty fraud , hence I don't think you will get an answer here.

[Q] Lost IMEI number on I9505

A friend of mine went aboard and had his SGS4(I9505) unlocked. He came back a few days ago and yesterday he came and the phone was not able to register on the network. His IMEI was 'Unknown', so apperantly I wm assuming that the flashing went bad.
Last night i tried:
- Flashed CM 11 official
- Flashed Google Edition 4.4
- Flashed Stock 4.3(H3G)
But nothing worked. I was getting some notifications from KNOX and remember reading that it sometimes it messes with flashing ROMs.
So basically my question is ehat can I do to get the IMEI back. I do not have an EFS backup (nor any backup in that matter). I am dont know what info should I provide to ease you guys in resolving this issue, but will do on demand(and eventuwlly with little info on how to get it ).
Any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.
NOTE: I AM NOT DOING THIS AS COMMERCIAL SERVICE, NOR AM RESPONWIBLE FOR THE CURRENT SITUATION.

[HELP] Boot loop! Can't access Recovery

Hey everyone, my rom port went totally wrong.
I installed the cwm recovery and could access to it by pressing Volume up + power. (installed and restored stock roms a few times before)
After installing a custom rom, the phone kept boot looping, it shows manufacturers logo, and then reboots.
I've tried any kind of key combination to access recovery, but with no luck, If i connect to the PC, it detects for a few seconds, and then goes away since it reboots, so theres no time to install its drivers.
Removed battery from phone for 1 hour and tried again, still boot looping.
Don't know what I can do anymore, what are the chances to revive the phone?
If that helps.... its a china phone, running 4.2.2, 3.4.5 kernel. Bricked when ported MIUI V5 SM-N900 V1 (yeah I know its for that specific phone, but always had in mind that I could access recovery any time I wanted to restore :/ )
Regards.
Is it a MTK based phone? If so, then you'll need to find the original firmware and use the SP Flash Tool.

What is needed to fix?
See if your imei and/or baseband are null. If it's the IMEI, you might be able to rewrite it with Mobileuncle app. I've fixed a couple mtk phones with it. Not sure if it supports yours...

That china application had a function to change IMEI, they were null as you said, and I just manually wrote in them what was in the back of the phone case :good:
Now talking about other issue, do you now if is possible to upgrade kernel versions? like 3.4.5 to 3.4.67? having a hard time to find someone confirm me this....
Only if the manufacturer put out an update. It's very difficult to update the kernel without the manufacturer releasing the source code, and they usually never do for devices like that.

how to di i fix wifi and bluetooth

Hey guys
I flashed an update to AEX Rom 2 days back and since then my wifi and Bluetooth are not working..
I tried to fix it by flashing modem set files via cmd in fastboot mod but then I get bootloops.
So I installed the latest stable global version Rom but again wifi and Bluetooth are not working.
In that thread they also told to flash modemset1 and modemset2 files via twrp
I have zcx twrp installed but I don't know how to flash those modemset1 files..
Need help guys..

Pretty sure your link leads to the same thread. I'm kinda having the same problem. I recieved this phone stuck in a bootloop for no reason. so I unbricked it using a fastboot rom. since then wifi and bluetooth isnt working. I've tried a few official roms and latest lineageos 14.1 too but it still doesnt work. imei is intact and mobile network works fine.

No, it was on factory settings and everything was fine before the bootloop. I'm pretty sure the person who used it doesnt know what a custom firmware, recovery or bootloader is. it just suddenly died and went into a bootloop, so he gave it to me cuz he had no idea how to fix it.

You probably messed up something, don't ever lose your efs partition backup.
Did you flash csc or home_csc with odin? Use the csc without "home".
home_csc doesn't wipe your phone completely, also backup your data, pictures etc somewhere else as it might erase those too(haven't done this since forever so I don't remember).

Does everything else work?
Which firmware files have you flashed?
Also make sure it's the right one for your sim card.
Other things: Shut down, take out sim, boot without it. Shut down again, insert sim and boot it, see if you get anything on start.
Can you make calls even though it's supposedly enabled?

Again, you didn't take a backup before trying something weird and later something weirder, why?
I'd suggest reflashing stock but you should wait for someone else to try and help you as it may involve fixing partitions among other things.

Welcome, well good thing you had that. Worst case you'll have to take it to Samsung and them wanting to replace hardware, best case things haven't been overwritten so it's restorable through some method.
Pick a custom ROM and stick to that when you fix it.
In the future always make backups, especially since it's a Samsung phone and things that control your IMEI are more reachable than they should be.
Good luck!
